Northland Green Gecko - Naultinus greyii (Bell, 1843) | ©Steve Reekie
As its common name suggests, Naultinus greyii (Gekkonidae) is a gecko found only in the far north of the North Island of New Zealand, from Whangaroa to Cape Reinga.
These geckos are very striking for the vivid green color of the dorsal surface, often displaying grey or gold colored markings on either side along the dorsal edges. The males have a blue band along the sides just below the limbs. The ventral surface of both sexes is bright pale green, sometimes with a yellow tinge. The inside of the mouth is deep blue with a bright red tongue.
