Phase one of my Carisma MSA-1E project is now complete after a new metal-geared high-torque servo arrived in the post. Properly mounted rather than servo taped in like the broken original, front articulation is greatly improved and the torque is more than enough. That means all the original Carisma electronics have been replaced now, although a smaller receiver wouldn’t hurt. Despite generally negative reviews on the internet, I’ve been really impressed with this Carisma MSA-1E Subaru Brat. Low speed control was the biggest complaint, however the unbranded ESC fitted makes it easy to gently apply torque and the chassis is far more capable than my FTX Outback. Considering by bodged servo mount limits front travel, articulation is very good and the standard servo’s torque is sufficient. A new motor, a receiver borrowed from another car, a random ESC that came with the car plus lashings of superglue, servo tape, cable ties and nail varnish has got the Brat up and running!
