A week had went by an Bradley was woke up by his phone rather then Pru crying.the phone call informed him on the mission,Laylas jet had been shot down and she was killed.

While tears fell from Bradley’s eyes,as he sobbed the loss of his wife,Pru waved her hand up slightly touching his mustache.

“Don’t be sad,she here” her small voice came out quiet as she then touched Bradleys chest where his heart was.

He figured he would need to see Riley and tell her about Layla knowing she probably couldn’t hear him as he talked to her,he just needed to see her as he said it.It was probably different now,Layla was gone there was no way she would want him to be the one to take care of Pru alone.

He walked in seeing two of her co-workers crying talking to her as she was wasn’t Wake,he could see how much they saw her themselves as their family as they walked out to give him a minute alone with her.

“I uh-“ Bradley hesitated not knowing how to word it,an finding it a little strange talking to her,in her state.Gently holding her hand as he had.

“There was a accident,that ended up killing Layla” he sobbed as he started telling her.

“You wanted us both to protect and love Pru as if she was our own if something ever happened to you,but it has to be different you wouldn’t want only me to take after her would you?” He asked while silence ran the room cold,making him shiver until he felt Riley squeeze his hand,her voice was groggy and weak.

“I trust nobody as much I trust you with her,you would protect her more then anyone I know,maybe as much or even more then I do” Riley ended up whispering,not even responding as he rushed to yelling that Riley was awake.

The nurses told him,Riley would end up being okay and making it,but they would like her to stay while they observe her for another night to make sure,as Bradley couldn’t help but feel the relief he couldn’t loose his wife and best friend in the same day,as he sat down beside her again watching as her eyes slowly shut yet again,he couldn’t help but feel the guilt as he found himself realizing he’s always been in love with Riley,as he remembered the look on Laylas face the night he accidentally called her Riley.

While Riley fell back asleep she had been dreaming about her first day at the fire station where her brother and his husband teased her along side her best friend Travis and the man everyone called dad jokingly because he was the oldest.

“Your just jealous they are about ready to find out,who the better diaz is” Riley teased her brother.

Riley loved Bradley and Layla but she couldn’t bring herself to go visit them,at least not yet.Riley was embarrassed the rest of her family and friends had to find out the truth about her parents and the lies that were held back.

While Layla and Bradley had came to see her themselves they walked in on Evan,Eddie’s husband talking to Riley after everyone just got back from a call.

“You need to let it all go,if they are your friends they will forget about it and love you either way,like I do with Eddie,through the good and bad,if you can’t do that,are you three really friends?” Evan asked her.

“We are not friends” Riley slightly scuffed a laugh as she was buttoning a flannel.

“What?” Evan said completely confused.

“They are not my friends,Bradley took me in when I didn’t have somewhere to sleep,besides Eddie he was the one who was there when Pru’s dad died,I don’t see Layla as a friend I see her if she’s like Bradley.” Riley confessed.”so no we are not friends,they are apart of me”

“When did you become emotional” Bradley teased her as she turnt around startled throwing a towel at him.“Shut up Bradshaw” she sassed back,trying to hide the fact she was embarrassed they heard her an of them whole situation.

“It’s been a few days and we haven’t heard from you,we just wanted to check in and see if you are alright” Layla asked her as her voice was as soft and gentle as a angel,laced with honey.

“Yeah I’m totally fine” Riley lied to them.“Are you sure,that was rough back there” Bradley asked her not completely convinced.

“I’m fine really Bradley,that wasn’t anything.I just hate people had to find out want kind of parents my parents really are” Riley confessed as she was pulled into a gentle warm embrace by Layla as she smiled and hugged her back.

“Would you wanna maybe go to the hard deck with us and the others?” Layla asked her gently rubbing her shoulder as she broke their hug. “Maybe it will distract your mind?”

“I would love to really,I would but I would also love nothing more for this day to be over and just go home to my little girl and hold her and Christopher while someone here as date for my brother” she smiled looking back at Evan who flicked her forehead walking away,leaving her to rub her own forehead.

“Your gonna regret that” she hollered after him while the other two laughed while Riley turnt back around needing to ask them something,somehow Layla already catching on.

“No” Layla tells her. “Whatever you thinking don’t,if anything,I mean anything happens.Pru is took care of know that,I love her as if she was my own and I’m sure Bradley does to.”

“I-“ Riley didn’t know what to say or how to tell her thank you.”how about this weekend?” She asked them.”all drinks and food on me” she faintly smiled grateful for them both.

“Of course” Bradley smiled as well as Layla before they left,with now plans to spend time with Riley and their friends with weekend,when Layla would be back from a top secret mission that was dangerous,it would also be them celebrating her win.

While Thursday came around two days after their conversation,the day before Layla would head out in her mission.

The dispatch rang through the station requesting them at the address of Riley’s and Eddie’s parents restaurant.The whole way there Riley talked with Eddie and their Capitan while trying to call their parents.

“Why ain’t they answering” she panicked “an why is this taking so long,this is there while life.”getting on to the scene their capitan telling them to stand down but,that was their parents there wasn’t any way the Diaz siblings were just gonna stand there and let anything happened even if they were upset at their parents.

When Bradley and Layla got the call,about the fire and that Riley was in the hospital they got there and walked in on Eddie fighting with his parents telling them to get the hell out if all the cared about was taking her son from her,when she was dying.

While a doctor was getting Christopher out of the room to bag Riley as they lifted her head,it fell to the side while the heart monitor was beeping.

“Don’t you dare tell me my daughter is dying” their mother slapped Eddie.

“She was fucking elecructed saving him” Eddie pointed at their father while the doctors came out telling them they would have to leave if they couldn’t be quiet while their parents walked out Eddie slid down against the wall at the idea of losing his sister.

Layla went in and saw her after they got her stable but she wasn’t waking up,her and Bradley having took Pru home with them,knowing it was what Riley would of wanted more then anything.As Evan went home with Christopher,Her brother stayed beside her all night at the hospital.

Layla and Bradley that night almost couldn’t imagine Pru not being their own daughter the way she would cling to either one of them and was calm,she never once cried,an that reminded Bradley of her mother.That night that was the night before Layla ended up going on the mission,Bradley ended up calling Layla,Rilies,in bed.Something that has never ever happened before,he had kept his feelings for her hidden sense high school,an the heartbreak he felt when he realized what he did,calling his wife his best friends name while they were in bed together,tangled in the sheets.

That morning there was something quiet and cold against the two as they quietly said I love you before she headed off.Bradley staying behind as Pru was sleeping in his lap.

Part1

Riley was the daughter to Theo and Harper Diaz,very stubborn parents who tried to force their kids to be perfect,something her and her brother Eddie Diaz failed them on.Riley grew up with Bradley Bradshaw,her childhood best friend someone people would consider she was attached to the hip with.

In Bradleys teen years,the fact he didn’t have his father became harder then it had been,he didn’t have his father to teach him the little things like his first time shaving,or the first time he bought a car.Riley though remembered watching her father teaching her brother,an that night she crawled into the cold sink sitting on the ledge.Teaching Bradley how to shave and being gentle and slow about it,not knowing Bradleys mom teased him about their friendship.

The Legend Tom Kanzansky’s daughter Layla Kazansky loved Riley as if she was almost her sister,she saw her as a mixture of Phoenix and Bob.Riley was the first one to tackle them both,squealing with excitement when she found out Bradley and her were getting married.Jake and Coyote loved to tease that Riley and Phonix and Layla were the dumb and dumber and even dumber trio,the way they were together.

Even while Bradley and Riley grew up,she never once let him know the truth about her family.She had him thinking it was a picture perfect family.Bradley and Layla and few of the others had been invited by Riley’s parents to her fathers retirement party,with her not knowing.While everyone started showing up,their parents walked over to them with their grandmas.

“What’s going on?” Eddie asked while he lowered his drink to his side,handing by his belt.

“Your father is nervous about giving a speech” their mother clapped her hands together in a attempt to not laugh or smile while Eddie and Riley teased in mocking a,awe while their grandmas followed while laughing.

“I’m sure there is a story you can tell” their fathers mother stated while their father Theo pointed at Eddie.

“Actually there was one I was gonna tell about you” Theo stated while Bradley and Layla walked over Riley hugged them before hugging Maverick and Phoniex.

“The day I came home,an walked up finding the whole side of my truck had been scrapped up,including the side mirror and bumper.” Their father started the story while others drawled their attention slowly to him.

“When Riley was born,an Theo was off on business.I told Eddie my water broke he had jumped up and ran out of the room and I thought of course,he’s gonna call someone to drive us to the hospital.then I hear a loud crash,from the garage.I walk in there,there’s Eddie behind the wheel of Theo’s prized truck,barley able to see over the wheel.He was trying to drive me to the hospital” Harper stated trying to give a better out look on the story so it didn’t seem so bad.

“Why am I not surprised?” Harpers mother daughter hugging Eddie. “Eddie to the rescue” while she cupped the side of his face.”my little hero”.

“Didn’t have much of a choice” Eddie looked back at his father while Riley pulled away from the hug to Layla.

“You had many choices,but you were just a kid I forgave you for that.” Their dad told him.

“No,actually you didn’t you grounded me.” Eddie talked back while the color drained from Riley’s face realizing it was all happening right now in front of her friends.

“Edmundo it’s just a story” their mother defended their dad.

“Real sweet one,it’s just he’s missing the whole part where he tore me a new one for ruining his truck” Eddie tells his mom while Riley grabbed his sleeve.

“Eddie,stop not right now” she said somewhat quietly while he shrugged her hand off,he’s always been her big brother,he’s always protected her.

“Or like the time you got upset at me for setting off the smoke alarms for making eggs for Riley and Bradshaw when I was twelve,while they were sick” while their father raised his voice saying his name.

“I’m sure there is a better story you can tell up there.” While he raise his hand pointed at his father before dropping it to his side.

“How about you tell them the time you pulled your ten year old son aside and told him it was time to man up and be the man of the house,why don’t you tell them about that time?” Eddie Questioned his father.

“Then we can all understand why you were never around,an this whole perfect picture you painted was a lie”

“I was providing for the family” Theo told him.

“Providing?” Eddie laughed at his own father.”Providing what,money?”

“Exactly,I had to do,what I had to do” their father yet again stated.While Riley picked up Christopher and Pru,knowing where this was leading to and getting them into the car in a panic.

“Exactly,because money meant more then family.I never had a childhood,a dad who took care of me,no you were gone” while his mother yelled for him to stop.

“You two act like your not failing your own kids” their mother told him,which caused Riley to freeze in her place fighting to not let her voice break.

“Excuse me” Riley finally spoke,ignoring the eyes that watched the family drama finally break the surface.

“We are done here,don’t reach out to me,or Riley.” Eddie told their parents.”You will never see your grandchildren again,you ruined your chances at that the second you thought it was a great idea to pretend you great parents just to look better for your friends”

“You can’t just take them away from the only stable thing they got left,they belong with us” their mother told them leaving everyone confused as Riley for the first time seemed to show angry.

“Riley I know how much you love your daughter,an how much Eddie loves Christopher that’s why I know you both are gonna do the right thing for them.Don’t drag them down with you” their mom finally says while Eddie’s husband Evan Buckley who was just known as Buck stopped her from punching her mom,knowing part of her would regret it,as Riley looked down seeing Pru had got out of the car some how and was hugging her foot as she picked her up,cradling the back of her head.

“Don’t be sad,mommy” Pru reached for her mom her words were hard to make out as she was learning her words better.While it was the first time Bradley heard her voice break while tears threatened to form in her eyes.

“I just-I really wish you dad was here” Riley confessed,hating the feeling of people watching her break for the first time as her brother nudges her to the car,she felt her voice break as she touched Laylas shoulder mumbling that she was sorry.

“You really would want him here Riley,he was drinking while driving how could he of been a great father” her mother called out after her while her brothers husband said she was lucky he wouldn’t ever hit a lady,while punching their father,Theo before getting in the car leaving with the others.
