Considering how up until recently Bridget was actively correcting others with pronouns and was forced to have feminine mannerisms due to a superstitious villiage isn't the revelation just slapping a label that doesn't fit Bridget? It's erasing Bridget's identity basically.

Ironically they should of made Bridget's twin the trans woman to show the villages superstition to be extra foolish as they'd not be the same gender, thus making the abuse Bridget suffered needlessly cruel and show some faith that a trans character can be built up instead of just a label pasted on.

Bridget's pronoun situation is actually pretty funny if you look at the original Japanese text. As far back as her debut and all throughout Strive, Bridget uses the Japanese "uchi" pronoun, which is reserved for girls. Other feminine boys in Japanese media use the male version, "boku", but Bridget doesn't. She even uses "uchi" when telling Goldlewis she's a boy!

As for identity erasure, let's pick that apart a little. Bridget is assigned male at birth - AMAB - and in her case, that meant disguising this from outsiders and pretending to be a girl in public. From what her biography says, Bridget otherwise had a happy childhood where she was loved, because she still loves her parents and was inspired to make weapon yo-yos because of the yo-you her father gave her when she was young. Speaking as someone who was abused, she wouldn't hold them in such regard - or care so much about what they thought of her gender identity - if she didn't love them.

At first, she thought doing her best to pass as a woman would make her parents happy, but saw it distressed them because they didn't want her to have to live like this, so instead figured she needed to prove her village's superstition wrong by becoming a respected, successful man. She got exactly that - and it didn't feel right to her.

This isn't erasure of Bridget's identity; it's her discovering a new facet of herself she didn't realize was there before. Some of us trans people take years, maybe decades, to realize who we are. Many of us simply don't learn about what being trans is until we're long past puberty because the adults in our lives never bothered to tell us. Bridget's dialog implies she's known her truth for some time, but has been hiding it for her family's sake, even if it was causing her internal pain.

The story didn't feel like it was a label forced onto her; it felt a genuine, authentic evolution of her story, messy and problematic as it was. Thank you for the question!
