@ao3commentoftheday suggested making a fic rec list to spread some joy in these shitty and overwhelming times. I’ve certainly been relying on some of my favorite emotional support fics so I thought I’d make a couple of posts to share some of my favorites and maybe introduce someone to a new fic, writer, or artist. I’m planning to make a few posts with a few fics and an artist in each. I’d love to hear if you love some of these too, but more importantly, leave some love for the authors and artists if you can! I lurked for a long time when I found ao3 and rediscovered fandom and am trying to go back and leave love on all my favorites. Brighten someone’s day and leave them a comment or kudos on ao3 or reblog them on tumblr!

I recently discovered @transbucky and am just totally in love with two of his fics:
seasons change (but people don’t) is a short, beautifully written fic with trans Steve and struggling to remember Bucky and three really well done interwoven timelines.

He’s in the homestretch when he finds himself stranded in a half-empty tourist town in the Catskills and decides to take a chance crawling into the back of someone’s truck.

All of these books are queer, but they all have back blurbs that don’t say they’re queer. While this can be a pain if I’m scouting for queer SFF, it can come in handy for people in a situation where they don’t want to be reading queer books openly.
Please do note that I don’t have hard copies of the books on hand so it’s possible that an author quote or something mentions one being queer (I feel like this isn’t super likely, but I don’t want to rule it out). Some might also have author biographies mentioning that the author is queer. Also, some may be shelved as LGBT on Goodreads or categorized as queer on Amazon. So if you’re planning on asking for any of these as holiday gifts, I would suggest going to the Amazon page or where ever your relative is likely to buy it from and double check that it’s something you’d be comfortable with sharing openly.
I wish I had more pansexual books, but the ones I know of tend to mention queerness in the back description.
With the exception of The Spy with the Red Balloon, these are all books I have read or are currently reading. If you want to recommend others, feel free to do so in the replies!

Like he’d been waiting for his cue, a tall, dark-haired man appeared behind the jailer. He wore a fighter’s leathers, all in black, with a long sword peeking over one shoulder. His eyes were a complicated grey, flecks of blue giving them richness, but they were…empty.
Steve fought not to recoil from the blankness, letting his gaze flick to the bird perched on his other shoulder. It was some kind of hunting bird, maybe a falcon or a hawk, no hood or jesses, and it mantled, staring down at Steve like he was a mouse it was considering for dinner.
They were something from a legend or a nightmare and they were here for Steve.

Today I learned that teenagers actually should be geting 10-12 hours sleep minimum, sleep deprivation is linked to heart disease, going to classes at 8am for teens is like going to work at 4am for adults, and early birds and night owls is an evolutionary tactic to make sure there's someone awake on watch always. Anyways the American education system is trash as always babes. Self care is biting off the head of the monopoly guy (evil capitalist overlord) and dancing on his grave.
