“You  know?“  and  a  smile  flashes  on  the  captain’s  lips,  gesturing  toward  james’  room.  “Want  to  help  tuck  him  up?  it’s  bedtime  for  him  already.“

“I  know I kept my parents up a lot as kid, always getting into trouble. Guess I still kinda do, being Ant-Man and all.”

He gives the sleeping boy a ruffle of his hair. He looks so much like his mother, it breaks his heart to think he’s gonna be without her. Yet Steve is such a doting father, he feels comfort to know James won’t ever know sadness over it for long. He’d have the entire team behind him just as Cassie does. They’d be there for both father and son every step of the way.

At his offer, Scott follows excitedly behind the both of them. Leaning against the door frame of James’ room as Steve sets the kid on his bed. It’s kinda like watching himself when Cassie was his age. As much as everything worried him with the outside world, Sam stepping up to the title of Captain America, hearing about everything that went down in New Jersey, Scott knew Steve was making the right choice taking the time to look after his kid. Before he’d know it, these years would be over, and James will be out of his kid years and into his teens. Time really has a way of flying by when you’re off saving the world.

Tucking James in gives Scott a sense of déjà vu. He feels like he oughta have the suit on, like he’d have to sneak out of here after wishing the kid goodnight. Forgetting for just a second that he was invited to be there. Funny how life has that way of repeating itself.

“You made the right call, sticking with him.” He says softly back at Steve. “He’s a good kid.”
