Happy Non-binary Parents Day!
Shout out to my friend Ully who joined me for coffee this past Friday while I was working on this and gave me the ideas to put a face on the guiscar and to add Eda in the background, helped me figure how to situate King (thanks to having much more toddler experience than me), AND posed in the doorway of the coffee shop to give me a reference for Eda. Feminist fantasy is funny sometimes in how much it wants to shit on femininity for no goddamned reason. Like the whole “skirts are tools of the patriarchy made to cripple women into immobility, breeches are much better” thing.
(Let’s get it straight: Most societies over history have defaulted to skirts for everyone because you don’t have to take anything off to relieve yourself, you just have to squat down or lift your skirts and go. The main advantage of bifurcated garments is they make it easier to ride horses. But Western men wear pants so women wearing pants has become ~the universal symbol of gender equality~)
The book I’m reading literally just had its medievalesque heroine declare that peasant women wear breeches to work in the field because “You can’t swing a scythe in a skirt!”

I often feel like I'm gonna sound like a broken cassette and that this is too obvious and yet I get unpleasantly surprised every time.
Once again, friendly reminder that Darius' job was being a Coven Head, not "bullying Hunter all day". Palisman logs confirmed he ignored him, pretty much like everybody else (except some of the other Coven Heads DID pick on Hunter, physically pushing him around even) because Hunter was NOT his responsibility at the time and he did not know Hunter was being abused. Where do you all even get that, seriously...
The Any Sport in a Storm outburst was so obviously about Darius' issues with his mentor's disappeareance/death. But maybe I shouldn't say "obviously" since I don't think people process that unless they think about him for more than five minutes before hurrying to say he's shitty. It's not a justification, but people act as if he had been rude to Hunter just because it was in his calendar.
And then sometimes people dislike Darius via "vibes" and the vibes are racism lmao. Tell me where's this energy for Eda, aka another adult who didn't want to warm up to a kid and made mistakes to end up a good parent, who even told King once she would "break every bone in his body". Like we all know she didn't mean it and she wouldn't but she had been raising King since he was a baby??? If Darius had done that, the fandom would have torn him apart.
It doesn't escape me what the difference is between Eda and Darius.

PSA: Don't use Open Office
I keep seeing people recommending Open Office as an alternative to Word, and uh... look, it is, technically, an open source alternative to Word. And it can do a lot of what Word can, genuinely! But it is also an abandoned project that hasn't been updated in nine years, and there's an active fork of it which is still receiving updates, and that fork is called LibreOffice, and it's fantastic.
Seriously, if you think that your choices are either "grit your teeth and pay Microsoft for a subscription" or "support free software but have a kind of subpar office suite experience", I guarantee that it's because you're working with outdated information, or outdated software. Most people I know who have used the latest version of LibreOffice prefer it to Word. I even know a handful of people who prefer it to Scrivener.
Open Office was the original project, and so it has the most name recognition, and as far as I can tell, that's really the only reason people are still recommending it. It's kind of like if people were saying "hey, the iPhone 14 isn't your only smart phone option!" but then were only ever recommending the Samsung Galaxy S5 as an alternative. LibreOffice is literally a version of the same exact program as Open Office that's just newer and better – please don't get locked into using a worse tool just because the updated version of the program has a different name!
