i’ve made this literal textpost before but i don’t have the time or energy to track it down so let’s just recap a few things FROM CANON HAIKYUU:
sugawara koushi:
physical person (both with aggression and affection, though more the latter)
cannot be trusted with the first years due to mischief
finds out about mischief, inserts himself into mischief (training kageyama & hinata with tanaka when they first joined the team)
encouraged/enjoyed hinata to crash the training camp
drags others into goofy behaviors (the “hit a nice serve” pose)
mercilessly teases tanaka & noya about their crush on kiyoko (”you know she’s not staying with us [at the camp] since she lives nearby, right?”)
canonically scolds daichi and very few others
would gladly pick a fight (actually does get into glaring matches) with other teams’ players
will tell you to your face what he thinks of you
helpful - but initially distant toward kageyama because he feared his skills and didn’t want to step on toes
bright grins that rival the sun
sawamura daichi:
cried more than suga in canon
scolds. constantly. literally chases after players in order to scold/yell at them.
scary when angry
encourages good, innocent, honest behavior
The Responsible One™
acted as working coach for a few months - involved managing the team, coming up with plays and training regimens and practice styles
gets competitive with other captains (kuroo, bokuto, basketball captain, kinda yui and oikawa)
fake, passive aggressive smiles
literally drags players out of trouble, or sends a responsible one (ennoshita) to do so
immediate adoption of first years. also immediate behavioral policing of first years (sans tsukishima, in which case he took a “you reap what you sow” approach)
soft, wholesome smiles
if y’all really fucking want to gender these attributes, if y’all REALLY REALLY WANNA DO THAT, then let’s examine exactly why the mischievous, physical, “come on son hinata let’s go play catch practice receives” one is the “mother” and the responsible, scolding, “if you talk that way to another player again i’m grounding you taking you off the starting lineup” one is the “father”. LET’S EXAMINE THAT REAL CLOSE.
oh wait. you know why. you all fucking know why.
daisuga:
closest height difference in the entire goddamn series - literally less than an inch
reciprocal scolding as well as support
different approaches to raising kouhai
14 pound weight difference - yes it’s noticeable but jesus christ suga is not a twig
mutual teasing and respect
suga’s older by over 6 months let’s not forget that either (also oldest of all the third years)
both in college prep courses
god just let them hold hands without assassinating suga’s character
and for that matter come on fandom daichi has a character let’s make him more than “scary when scolding”

Meet Nina and Cinta, my main characters from an ongoing romcom novel about fake girlfriends, politics, and how those things intersect to become the backbone of a plot that changes a nation.
