"Do you want another drink?" Maddie shook the empty glass in front of her and clinked it against (Y/n)'s glass with a grin that creased her eyes. If they had been drinking alcohol, Maddie would have een a very bad influence on her sister. It was lucky that they were on the non-alcoholic drinks right now which for (Y/n), were mainly juices without the vodka. Pretend cocktails.
A smile pulled at (Y/n)'s lips as she looked over at her sister and nodded, but before she could speak, something behind her sister caught her eye.
(Y/n) looked over her sister's shoulder and past the bar behind them towards the door of the restaurant they were in.
It couldn't be.
"You okay?" Maddie leaned across the table to take (Y/n)'s empty glass but she pulled back quickly when the back of her hand brushed (Y/n)'s and her little sister jumped. Her head snapped like her neck had been broken and her pupils blew wide as if she was suffering some kind of attack.
"Yeah, I- I'm gonna go to the toilet, then we can start the next round." She breathed through her words and did her best to force herself to smile.
They were having a good day together, she was out with her sister and she didn't want to ruin the day or make a big deal out of anything.
As long as he didn't see her, it would be okay.
Slinging her bag on her shoulder, (Y/n) stood up and nudged her arm with Maddie to try and ease the sudden tension she had caused. Her smile was tight and forced but (Y/n) tried to look happy as Maddie walked towards the bar and (Y/n) turned in the direction of the toilets.
The moment she was in a cubicle, her bag dropped to the floor and she pinned her back up against the stall that was barely big enough to fit her small frame. (Y/n) raked her fingers through her hair, tugging the locks to the back of her head to get them out her eyes.
A cold sweat prickled along her skin that was rife with goosebumps that felt like horrid nails were scratching down her skin. With her shoulders out straight and her back glued to the stall wall, (Y/n) tried to take a deep breath and poke her elbows out at her sides to help her breathing. She was alright, she just needed to breathe and calm down and tell herself everything was okay.
She was out with her sister, they'd been shopping this morning and now they were having drinks together. Then they would go home, have an hour together and then (Y/n) would pick Chris up from school and go round to Evan's for tea.
It was a good day, (Y/n) didn't want it to be ruined by the person she caught a glimpse of. Maybe she had been mistaken. Perhaps it was her mind playing tricks on her because things had been going so well recently and her anxiety could never cope when things were going good.
When it felt like her breathing was somewhat normal again, (Y/n) leaned down and grabbed her phone from her bag.
Just looking at her lockscreen sent a wave of happiness flooding through (Y/n)'s stomach and calmed down the moths blundering about in her chest. The lockscreen picture was of her, Eddie and Chris on their wedding day.
Looking at pictures was a coping mechanism, it was why Eddie had put up so many photoframes around the house. Her counsellor had agreed it was a good way to cope. Looking at new family pictures showed (Y/n) that her situation was better and she was happy. This was her family and her life was perfect with them, seeing her wedding photo reminded (Y/n) that she had escaped the past and gotten herself to where she wanted to be.
(Y/n) nodded to herself, put her bag back on her shoulder and took one more long breath to reassure herself that she wasn't about to have a panic attack.
She put her phone back in her bag after another peek at her lockscreen that showed the smiling faces of her boys. She dared to dart her eyes down and move the edge of her jacket away so her fingers could brush over her stomach. Only four months left and she would have a baby boy in her arms.
Leaving the stall, (Y/n) moved to the sink and dabbed some cold water on her face. She needed to go back to Maddie or her sister would be wondering where she had got to.
"I thought it was you."
That voice sent shivers running down (Y/n)'s spine and her blood ran cold, tingling all the way down to her toes and leaving her head feeling like it was pumped full of air. Her body was shaking before her eyes looked up to a face she hadn't set eyes on in over four years. It felt like her mind was paying tricks on her, warping his image to protect her from anymore nightmares he might try and cause. She couldn't look past his chin, her mind wouldn't allow her; it was for her own safety.
Downcasting her eyes to the floor, (Y/n) pressed her palm to the wall to steady herself and did her best to speed past him. She needed to get back to her sister, get somewhere safe where people were around and she wasn't alone with the devil.
"Where do you think you're going?" His voice was more gruff than (Y/n) remembered, like the sugar coating had worn off and left him in his true colours.
She didn't care what he had to say, why he wanted to talk to her or what he thought he could try and do. All (Y/n) cared about was being as far away from him as possible. She was no longer looking over her shoulder when she walked home, afraid he would find out where she lived and follow her to get her back. She didn't wake up in fright, screaming for Eddie and frightening the life out of Chris. (Y/n) didn't burst out into tears whenever she and Eddie had a slight disagreement, fearing he would suddenly lash out or start shouting at her.
All of her old, life saving reactions and mechanisms had been stored away and long forgotten now she was with Eddie. (Y/n) didn't want to revert back to that time of her life when her life consisted of surviving, not living.
"NO!" (Y/n) screamed as loud as her lungs would allow, pushing her body forward when she felt a hand clench in the back of her hair.
This was unlike him.
He never usually grabbed her in public and not so suddenly like this when people were around and could catch him in the act. But (Y/n) hadn't seen him for four years, the last time she locked eyes on him she had thrown herself behind Evan who almost got himself arrested trying to get her ex away from her.
His fingertips felt like they were bruising the back of (Y/n)'s skull when he yanked on her hair to pull her back to him.
She thrust her elbow back to try and clock him somewhere, anywhere she could reach to get away from him. Turning to the side, (Y/n) slapped the back of her hand against his face and stumbled forward. Her arms coiled to her chest, pinning around her stomach that she prayed he couldn't see properly; the last thing she wanted was for him to know she was pregnant.
His hand left her hair and she didn't have time to scream before his fingers curled around her throat and he pushed her back into the wall.
"What are you doing? Hey get off her!"
(Y/n) had no idea who the person was shouting down the hall but she was grateful for him clearly running her way. She needed this brute from her past to get off her and leave her alone for good, but (Y/n) doubted he would go away. Not now, not ever.
"Oh my God!"
Her hands batted about like mad hawks, her nails pecking and scratching at his skin until he bled and roughly threw her down. The wind knocked out of her when she landed with a thud on her back and before she could think, (Y/n) slammed her foot out into his stomach. The action bent her toes awkwardly in her shoes and she was sure she had broken them from the awful pain it caused, but she did it again and again while she wriggled to get away from him.
"(Y/n)! Oh, God- get him away from her now!"
Maddie tried to reach out for her little sister but (Y/n) coiled away, screaming as she backed up into the wall. Her hands moved to cradle the back of her head and her face pushed into her arms to hide herself away from them all.
The trembling got worse even when she felt her sister kneel behind her and daringly press her hands to (Y/n)'s shoulders. She kissed her sister's temple but Maddie paled, trying to fight off tears when she realised what her sister was quietly muttering and whimpering.
"Home. T…take me home. I w…wanna go home."
Maddie leaned her temple against her sister's unruly hair and bit down a cry. She couldn't take her sister home yet, she was going to have to take her to the hospital, make a call to the police, then call Evan.
And she dreaded the call she was going to have to make to Eddie. That wasn't going to go down well.
***
"I'm here for (Y/n) Diaz?"
A petrified, almost violent look swirled in (Y/n)'s eyes and her head snapped to the left to look up at her big sister when she heard her husband's voice.
The look her sister gave her made Maddie's knees go weak and she could feel tears welling in her eyes when (Y/n) looked up at her like that with her lower lip wobbling down and more floods of tears pouring down her face. Her hands that were already trembling started to shake worse and reached out to grab Maddie's hand in a viper grip that scared her.
"You called Eddie?!" Her voice wanted to come out loud and torrential like a blizzard swirling through the room but all that came out was a hoarse, broken whisper that sounded like a meager threat.
"What was I supposed to do?" Maddie pressed her lips into a thin line but when she tried to hold (Y/n)'s hand, the younger girl pulled back so harshly she almost toppled off the bed.
Her arms cocooned to her quaking chest, her knees started to jitter on the edge of the bed and her head bowed down until her chin was smashed into her upper chest. Maddie wasn't supposed to tell him. She shouldn't have made that call, that was for (Y/n) to decide, not her. But Maddie knew her sister like the back of her hand and she knew if she didn't give Eddie the heads up, (Y/n) wouldn't tell him when she got home.
"You shouldn't h-have called him-"
"If I took you home I can guarantee you wouldn't tell him and then he'd be worried out of his mind wondering what was wrong. He needed to know we're here." Maddie reached her hand out for (Y/n) but she shook her off and turned away just as the curtain pulled back.
(Y/n) bowed her head and reached her hands down to grip the edges of the bed she was sat on. Her nails punctured into the mattress and she leaned her weight back on her hands to hold her balance and stop herself from swaying forward too far and falling.
"I'll go tell Buck what's going on,"
The moment Maddie left the pair alone and pulled the curtain behind her, (Y/n) tried to stop the tears. She tried to take a deep breath, unblur her vision and look up at her husband but looking at Eddie only made her heart lurch down to her stomach where their baby had been doing summersaults for the last hour.
He looked a mess.
Eddie's hair was a mess, curls askew in every direction, eyes rampid and as dark as night with the pupils taking over almost the whole of his iris. His hands were clenched into fists at his sides and his face was burnt red. His thick black work trousers were pulled high on his waist with his cotton shirt tucked into the waist and his exposed arms were bulging and flexing.
The stubble on his face made him look somehow even more rugged and unruly than usual.
He had come straight from the station to get down here and he didn't even know why. Maddie hadn't told him what happened on the phone. All Eddie could gather from his sister in law was that while they were out, something had happened to (Y/n) and to be safe, Maddie brought her down to the hospital. That was all he needed to hear to rush down here in a blazing panic, desperate to know what had happened and if his wife was alright.
"Baby-" That one word was all Eddie could get through before cried and moved.
He thought for a second she was going to try and leave the cubicle so she wouldn't have to explain what was going on. God knows arguments didn't happen often between the couple and when they did, Eddie had to tread carefully. (Y/n) couldn't handle arguments, she was so used raised voices getting higher and ending with slurrs aimed at her and things being thrown and fists hitting the walls.
Before Eddie truly understood what (Y/n) had gone through with her ex and they had argued over something silly, Eddie raised his voice. He did it once and he didn't mean to but when he moved his hand to run his fingers through his hair, (Y/n) cowered. She had suddenly crouched down on the floor with an arm over her head and Eddie realised she reacted because she thought he was going to throw something.
He had cried when he bent down in front of her to tell her that was something he would never do. Arguments since then had always been calm and very few.
"Baby, talk to me, please."
Eddie curved his arms around (Y/n)'s waist when she jumped off the bed and thundered forward into his arms. He could feel her trembling fingers curling so tightly into his shirt that she was sure to put holes in the material. Her face buried in the middle of his chest so her tears were soaking into his shirt and he could feel each rapid breath she took. He smoothed his fingers over her waist, caressing her hip but when he moved his left hand to try and cradle the back of her head- something he always did when he held her like this- he frowned. She flinched.
His hand froze, hovering over the back of her head and he didn't know what to do. He tried again but when his fingers skimmed the back of her head, Eddie realised she wasn't flinching away from his touch, she was whimpering in pain. She'd hurt her head somehow.
"Maddie didn't tell me what happened, just that you were hurt. Baby please tell me what's gone on. Why're you hurt, hm?" His voice was soft, coaxing and when his lips softened, (Y/n) felt like melting into a puddle in his arms.
Pulling back, Eddie trailed his hands up her sides until he could cup her face in his hands. He hunched down to be at her level and tilted her head up to him while he took his lower lip between his teeth and skimmed his eyes over her trembling frame. His thumb brushed across the corner of her mouth while his eyes searched hers, begging for answers.
(Y/n) opened her mouth to speak, she was going to try and formulate some sort of response or call out for her sister to come back in and explain so she didn't have to. But she couldn't say anything when she watched her husband's eyes change like opal stones turning into black rocks.
Her shaking hands dug tighter into Eddie's shirt when he moved his hand from her cheek to her chin and tilted her head back until she was looking up at the ceiling.
Before she knew it, his hands moved to her waist and he was crouched down in front of her, sending her heart rocketing in her chest. She had no idea what he was doing. Her hands became untethered from his shirt when he bent down and to stop herself from shaking or scratching, (Y/n) clamped her hands down on his shoulders. Her eyes went wide as she watched her husband with uncertainty and curiosity.
He lifted up her dress.
If it had been anyone else in front of her, a doctor, her sister, her brother or a nurse, (Y/n) would have smacked them and pushed them back. But Eddie was different. His hands were a familiar sense of peace and home to (Y/n) and whenever he was close, she was at ease.
Her wide, worried eyes watched her husband in confusion as he raked up her dress over her bump. And while his hands roamed her abdomen, hips and up towards her chest, (Y/n) stayed completely still, waiting for him to explain this time.
"You've got fingerprints on your neck. Tell me who's hurt you and why," Eddie did his level best to control his voice and show (Y/n) that he wasn't angry, infuriated or burning up with anger directed at her. He was losing his mind at whoever had decided to do this to his wife. When Maddie called Chimney and subsequently asked him to hand the phone over to Eddie, he had been worried about why Maddie wouldn't say exactly what happened.
Now he understood. She didn't want to be the one to tell him (Y/n) had been attacked. Someone had their hands around his wife's throat.
Eddie wouldn't let that go.
He felt the tremor that rattled through (Y/n)'s body when it clicked in her mind what he was doing. If she had marks on her neck, Eddie had to see what other marks she had and make sure she wasn't here at the hospital because of any harm to the baby.
"Who hurt you?"
"Austin." (Y/n) said the vile name before she lost all courage and went mute to try and save them both the pain. It was only going to rile Eddie up to tell him what happened and who caused the chaos, but (Y/n) knew she couldn't hide this from him. He had every right to know what went on and he only wanted to look after her, he couldn't do that if he didn't know when she was hurt or in danger.
Her hands moved to smooth up and down Eddie's arms when he froze before her. His arms bulged and tensed even more and his hands stopped on her hips, gripping tightly and subconsciously pulling her closer until she was almost leaning her weight onto him. His head tilted up so his blown pupils could watch for her reaction, trying to silently gouge out what happened so she didn't have to relive it again.
"Tell me," He coaxed quietly, but the stern undertone of his voice couldn't be missed.
He was furious.
Four years since Austin had last showed up in (Y/n)'s life and tried to upset her and ruin the life she was putting back together. When Eddie had seen him for the first time, he had (Y/n) and Chris with him so he had to control himself. No one was around him the last time he saw Austin. He had been able to throw his fists and plaster him to the floor, telling him in no uncertain terms to stay the Hell away from (Y/n) or Eddie wouldn't hesitate to hurt him.
The last time any of them had seen him around was when Evan punched him in the middle of the street and called Athena to get Austin to leave.
He hadn't been around since.
Austin had stolen three years of (Y/n)'s life, controlling where she went, who she talked to. Threatening her when she wanted to do things with Maddie or Evan without Austin. He was so clingy and insecure that even when she was talking to her siblings, he wanted to know exactly what she said and when she was meeting with them so he knew she wasn't cheating on him or planning to leave. His obsessive side grew and grew until (Y/n) felt like she couldn't breathe on her own.
She moved out to LA and stayed with Evan for a year. (Y/n) didn't want to live alone, she was too afraid when Austin had did all he could to find her. And when she moved out from Evan's place, she moved in with Eddie and Chris after getting in a relationship with him.
They were the best things to ever happen to (Y/n). She felt able enough to move in with him, move on with her life, get married and have a family.
Austin couldn't worm his way back and threaten all that they had created here. Everyone was happy, he couldn't ruin it again.
Reaching up, Eddie pulled (Y/n)'s dress back down and fixed it before he stood up. He kept hold of her hips and nudged her to sit back down on the bed and he walked forward with her, trailing his hands down to cup her inner thighs. He pushed her legs apart enough so he could stand between them with his legs bumping the edge of the bed and his hands flexing and moving along her thighs.
"We were having a drink and I thought I was seeing things, but when I came out the toilet… he was waiting for me, he recognised me. He didn't say much, and he- he grabbed me by my hair," (Y/n) subconsciously moved one hand to the back of her head but she didn't dare touch the tender spot in case it still hurt.
She moved her hands to grip Eddie's torso while he pushed higher on his toes to look at the back of her head. His fingers ever so gently parted her hair and tried to check if she had any damage, any blood or bruising or see if he had yanked free some of her hair. The skin didn't look bruised or inflamed, just tender.
"You always said if I saw him to scream, so I did. He tried to choke me… t-then he pushed me down. Someone saw and pinned him down… he's never attacked me in public before."
Leaning forward, (Y/n) buried her face in his chest and tightened her hands on his hips until she felt his arms cocooning around her waist and cupping the back of her neck gently.
Eddie had given her tips and advice and consoled her whenever she thought Austin had been following her or hanging around or when she thought she saw him out the corner of her eye. Not once did Eddie ever say it was in (Y/n)'s head and it was just her anxiety, not even when they both knew she was getting paranoid. He always listened and told her that if she saw him, she needed to get around other people or scream.
It didn't matter if Austin was touching her, running toward her or standing twenty feet away. She needed to scream to gain attention because then Austin wouldn't go near her, he would retreat so he didn't get arrested.
"He hasn't been able to get near you in years, he saw you and pounced. He wouldn't be thinking rationally." Eddie wasn't excusing what Austin did, but he could see why the bastard would attack out of the blue.
(Y/n) wasn't his anymore, she was free of him, happy and living her life the way she wanted. Suddenly seeing her after so many years would have struck something in Austin and he wanted to lash out and hurt her. Thinking it through wouldn't have crossed his mind or realising he was in public and would be spotted was far from his mind.
"Tell me someone called the police?"
"Maddie did, we gave statements before she brought me here."
Her big sister wasn't stupid and she wasn't a fool. Maddie made sure someone called the police and everyone gave their statements so Austin could get charged with harrassment and assault. They had witnesses this time, he couldn't get away lightly.
"Can we go home?" The way (Y/n) looked up at Eddie made his heart skip a beat and his eyes softened as his lips finally bent from a frown into a small smile.
"Yeah, I'm taking you home baby." He would have a word with Maddie and a nurse to make sure (Y/n) was fine to leave, then he would take her home and go get Chris from school. Eddie already knew Maddie would be coming home with them for the evening and if he had any guess of how Buck would react, he too would be round their house this evening.
Moving his hands to cup her face, he smoothed his thumbs over her jaw and tilted her head up so he could kiss her. He could taste her salty tears on her lips and it made him swipe a finger beneath her eye to catch the last of her fallen tears. He didn't want to see her cry, he only ever wanted to see her beautiful smile.
Eddie took a step back and held her hips, helping her climb down from the bed but when his eyes did a quick sweep over her frame, his smile softened and his brows furrowed.
"Baby… where are your shoes?"
He'd only just noticed that she was standing barefoot in front of him. Surely she must have come here in her shoes, why had she taken them off when she was desperate to go home?
(Y/n) looked down to her bare feet and pressed her lips into a thin line. Her fingers trailed over his arms to grip his biceps and she stayed looking at her feet for another second before she dragged her eyes up to meet his.
"I hurt my foot… I might have broken a toe,"
"When you fell? Have you had an X-ray for it?" Eddie looked down at her feet again, narrowing his eyes when he noticed her second toe was rather discoloured and he guessed by morning it would be a mix of dark blue and grey if it was broken. She needed to go for an X-ray and get her toes taped together to keep them straight so if it was broken, it would heal properly.
"…I kicked him to get away. I don't want an X-ray, they can't do anything if it's broken. I just wanna go home, please?"
Taping them together with a bandage was the only thing the nurses could do and (Y/n) wasn't waiting around wasting their time with an X-ray for a toe. She would much rather go home and sort it out herself, she could still walk and move just fine and with some painkillers she would feel much better.
They were only at the hospital because Maddie insisted in case something happened to the baby during the fall. But (Y/n) was relatively okay and the baby was fine, now all she wanted to do was go home with Eddie and have Chris back home with them too.
"Let's get you both home then,"
***
A tired yawn escaped Eddie's lips as he pulled his key from the door and closed it behind him as quietly as he could. He wasn't sure what time it was, probably just gone midnight and his bed had been calling out for him since he got in the truck to come home.
He wasn't used to the twelve hour shifts, he was more accustomed to twenty four hour shifts or even two days straight as they meant he could be at home for longer stretches of time with his family. But they were short-handed this week with Hen on annual leave and a twelve hour shift was rather easy to cover.
Eddie's lips curved into a small smile and his expression softened round the corners like melting butter when he noticed a warm glow from the living room. (Y/n) had left the lamp on for him for when he came home.
He kicked off his boots, shrugged his bag down and dragged his feet through the hall towards the living room.
Eddie pressed a hand to his chest and took a step back when he turned towards the living room. "Fuck!" The word slipped past his lips in a hushed tone and he closed his eyes, taking a deep breath.
What was Buck doing here?
Advancing into the living room, Eddie tilted his head to the side and frowned when he crouched down beside the sofa. The TV was on in the background, quietly playing an old Christmas movie that was nearly finished. There were a few snacks in dishes on the coffee table along with glasses of juice, a juice box and a signature packet of empty sweets which meant Chris had been up with them too.
The sight on the sofa was what both scared and melted Eddie's heart.
There was Evan, his feet propped up on the coffee table, body slouched down into the sofa and his head slumped to the side on a cushion. He had a blanket draped over his waist, an arm draped over his middle and his left arm was stretched out, resting securely on (Y/n)'s leg.
And there was Eddie's wife, curled up on the other side of the sofa, her face buried in a cushion, arms cocooned to her chest and her feet on her brother's lap.
"Buck… Buck… hey, you okay?" He gently shook Evan's arm until his head dropped down and the sudden jerk brought him back round.
He didn't wake up the same way as (Y/n) and Eddie did.
(Y/n) woke up in fright if someone abruptly woke her. She would thrash and fight and gasp and cry if someone jolted her awake after too many times of Austin waking her during the night, grabbing her by her hair when he was drunk. She was only just getting used to being woken up by Chris, his touch no longer scared her or caused her to scream. And Eddie had a magic touch of being able to move her while she slept and not wake her; he never woke her unless he really had to.
For Eddie, he woke up in panic a lot of the time. He had spent too much time being jerked awake in the army, running to get on shift or being told they were under attack and had to move quickly. Nightmares woke him, bad memories plagued him and every time he was woken up, he jolted into action, forgetting he was in the real world and reverting back to being an army medic.
Evan was by far an easy person to wake.
He looked over at Eddie and a soft, tired grin spread across his face while he stretched his arms out above his head against the sofa and curled his toes as he straightened out like a ruler.
"Hey, you're back. We nodded off," He rubbed at his eyes and slowly shuffled to sit up straight, dropping his feet back down to the floor. He moved his hand back down to (Y/n)'s leg and rubbed his eyes. They had been asleep for over an hour since the movie was almost finished, they had barely been halfway through when Evan last remembered watching it.
"I can see that… Buck don't take this the wrong way but, why're you here, didn't you have a date?" Eddie didn't want to be rude and he didn't want Evan to think he was annoyed that his brother in law was here.
It was a very pleasant surprise to see Evan here, but Eddie thought Evan said something about going out on a date tonight. His dates didn't usually end with him coming over to his sister's house for the night.
Eddie moved to perch on the edge of the coffee table, spreading his knees to the side with his elbows perched on his thighs and his hands clasped together between his legs. He watched his brother in law smile, run a hand over his face and then look up at Eddie through tired, glassy eyes that almost worried him.
"Yeah, it didn't go too well. Halfway through, (Y/n) called…" Evan started to rub his hand up and down (Y/n)'s leg while he dragged his other hand through his hair. "She didn't want to be alone at night, not after seeing that bastard the other day. So I said I'd come over for the night."
Eddie coiled his hands together and slumped his shoulders forward, bowing his head near his knees.
He was afraid of this.
"I shouldn't have gone, I should have stayed-"
"She thought she'd be okay, besides I was happy to come round and have a movie night with her and Chris. We'd do this all the time when we lived together." a fondness took over Evan's eyes as he glanced down to his sister who was sleeping soundly, something he didn't think would happen tonight.
He had been worried when she called, apologising a million times while she asked if he would stay the night or at least until Eddie came home. Being home alone with Chris put (Y/n) on edge knowing that Austin was out on bail. He had no clue where she, Maddie or Evan lived but (Y/n) had an unrivelled fear that he would somehow find her. She couldn't protect herself or Chris if he turned up and she had to keep Chris safe from him.
Evan would have gone home alone and unhappy if she didn't call and it was a great way to take his mind off his horrid date. They had tea together, all three of them watched some movies, then when Chris went to bed he and (Y/n) sat down again to watch Christmas movies. It felt like old times again and Evan would come round whenever she asked to sit with her and calm her down if she wanted him to.
"You'd have movie nights?"
"When uh," Evan's eyes briefly glanced down at his sister, making sure she was definitely asleep before he spoke. "The first week she moved in with me, I got up one night and found her slumped against the front door with my baseball bat. She was too scared to sleep. So every night for a month or so, we would watch movies and fall asleep on the sofa bed. That's how badly he fucked her up. I was twenty three and sharing a bed with my little sister because she was petrified of sleeping alone and waking up to someone grabbing a fistful of her hair."
The rage was hard to keep out of his voice and his cheeks flushed at the mere thought of how badly things had turned when (Y/n) met and then subsequently left Austin.
She rang Evan one day out of the blue, begging him to come pick her up and pleading if she could stay with him and he agreed without a second thought. He picked her up, helped her pack and brought her home with him and vowed she would stay with him forever if she needed to.
That night had scarred Evan for life.
He'd gotten up for a drink and had the shock of his life, he thought (Y/n) had been attacked or that she was dead. Her legs curled up to her stomach, head slumped on the door and his baseball bat wrapped up in her arms. She had been so frightened she bolted the door and fell asleep next to it, waiting to be attacked.
The next night Evan pulled out the sofa bed, got popcorn and drinks out and said they were having a movie marathon. When they ended up asleep on the sofa and woke up in the morning, they didn't acknowledge it or say anything about it. Every night since, that was their routine and Evan finally saw his sister get a good night's sleep and relax. It had been almost two months before they went back to having separate bedrooms and Evan would never forgive Austin for that.
He would never forgive Austin for petrifying (Y/n) to the point of reverting back to a child, clinging to her brother and sister for protection she shouldn't have needed.
At least tonight it was different, Evan had planned to sleep alone on the sofa but they both fell asleep. This wasn't (Y/n) begging for his protection, she was asking for his comfort and company. And she had Eddie now, she was a wife and mother and she wasn't going to be sleeping on the sofa with her brother, afraid for her life.
Neither of them would let (Y/n) fall back to that stage of her life.
"Thank you for coming over… I'll take her to bed and grab you the spare cover and pillows." There was no way Eddie was letting Evan go home this late at night, staying over was the least they could do for him.
Reaching out, Evan patted Eddie's shoulder before he slumped further down into the sofa and tilted his head back, closing his eyes. He wasn't on shift in the morning which meant he could have a good night's sleep until Chris came in to wake him up in the morning.
"Alright, come here sweetheart," Eddie crouched down before (Y/n) and unravelled the blanket from around her waist.
He knew how to move her without waking her. He eased one arm beneath her back and the other under the crook of her knees, edging her head onto his shoulder before he slowly pulled up with her in his arms. As soon as she moved, Evan twisted and spread his tall frame out over the sofa, already halfway back to sleep which caused Eddie to smile.
He pressed his lips to (Y/n)'s temple and made his way down the hall towards their bedroom. His lips stayed against her temple and they curved into a grin just as he nudged the door open when he felt (Y/n)'s palm move against his chest and a delicate kiss pecked against his exposed neck.
"Hi sweetheart," He mumbled against her skin as he moved over to the bed, pushed his knees into the mattress and carefully laid her down in bed.
"You're home," Her voice was thick with sleep and as quiet as a whisper on the wind. (Y/n) couldn't find the will to open her eyes but she managed to tug on his shirt and loop her other arm around her husband's neck, tugging him down to her. She felt his hands plant on the pillow either side of her head to stop his weight from crushing her beneath him.
"I am, did you miss me baby?"
She hummed quietly, running her fingers up his neck into his hair and gave a little tug to get his lips against hers. As if remembering something, (Y/n) paused, sucking Eddie's lower lip between her teeth as her hand let go of his shirt and slumped down onto the bed, trying to figure out where she was.
"W-where's Buck?"
"Buck's fast asleep on the sofa, and you're back in bed where you should be, with me baby." He pressed another kiss to her lips, squeezed the back of her thigh and then reached his hand up to gently loosen her arm from around his neck which caused her to groan. "Let me go get Buck a quilt then I'll be right back baby."
His lips pressed to the inside of her wrist, kissing over her pulse before he started to pull back.
"I'll protect you, sweetheart. I promise."

Summary: Eddie brings his family along to a joint station party, but when his back is turned, someone takes a liking to his wife. Eddie doesn't take it lightly and neither does Buck.
Enjoy.

Tumblr media
"How do I look?" (Y/n) smoothed out the wrinkles in her dress before she held her arms out at her sides, waiting for a sign of approval even though she knew it didn't matter what she wore. She could have put on a bin bag and Eddie would have fawned over her and told her she looked beautiful.
Her eyes looked over at her two boys who were stood in the hallway near the front door. Chris had his thumb in his mouth and a wide smile on his face as he held onto the rail on the wall and stuck his left foot out so Eddie could put his shoe on for him.
Chris had chosen a blue button up shirt and some black shorts since the weather was sweltering. He matched Eddie who was wearing a plain white cotton shirt and jet black baggy shorts that barely scraped down to his knees. It wasn't often (Y/n) saw her husband wearing shorts, even in the heat he would normally wear trousers unless he was in the garden. They had gotten Chris's paddling pool out last week and when Eddie was off, he had been living in his trunks because Chris wouldn't leave the pool.
He was having a break from the pool today because the station was having a blow out summer party along with the 221 fire team.
"You look beautiful," Eddie stood up with his hands on his hips and his eyes transfixed on his wife while Chris moved to get his crutches. He curved his arm around (Y/n)'s waist when she walked up to his side and tucked her face into his shoulder. "What happened to the red dress?"
"I looked like a grape," (Y/n) huffed when she felt her husband laughing against her temple. "I'll save it for when I can't fit into anything else."
She had a loose fitting strawberry red dress that she thought would look lovely, until she put it on. It didn't compliment her body at all, it hung off her like it was two sizes too big and didn't show off her frame. The dress fit over her small baby bump and then just stayed puffed out like she was some sort of round grapefruit. She looked out of shape and there was on way (Y/n) would leave the house looking like that.
"You look pregnant, there's a difference. But this dress is lovely, so let's hop to it."
She had gone with a very pale turquoise dress that bunched around her shoulders, had a V-line down to her cleavage and the elastic was loose enough to stretch over her small bump. It went to her mid-thighs, exposing her slender legs and the small white pumps she matched with the dress.
(Y/n) knew her shape was changing just like it did when she had Chris but it didn't stop her self-conscious worries in the back of her mind. She wanted to look good and more like herself but the red dress just warped her image. Whereas this dress clung to her a bit more rather than puffing out like a tent. She was only nineteen weeks pregnant so her bump was less defined and only just starting out but (Y/n) knew the time would come soon for her to be living in Eddie's clothes which would be the only ones to fit her when she got bigger.
It didn't take long to get to the station but when they parked round the back, the music was blasting out and radiating through the walls. The noise seemed to rattle through Chris's blood and pump him up until he was bouncing in his seat, giggling away madly.
"Alright, in we go." Eddie lifted Chris down from the truck and handed him his crutches and as quick as anything, Chris was trotting off towards the front of the station. Leaving his dad stood holding his backpack and rolling his eyes.
"So do you know anyone from the other station?"
Reaching her hands out, (Y/n) looped her arms around Eddie's bicep and pressed up into his side as they followed after Chris. She pressed her cheek into his shoulder, smiling when she felt him kiss the top of her head.
"No, we only see other teams in passing or on big blowouts but Cap thought joining forces a few weeks ago earned us all a party," It was hard to start up a conversation with people from another firehouse when they didn't get chance to talk more than to give orders or confirmation of a fire.
They only joined forces for natural disasters, spreading fires or floods and they didn't hang around long enough to talk after the work was done. Not like in their own stations where they were around each other every day for hours on end. There was no stopping them from getting close with team mates in their own stations.
But Eddie did think it was nice to join forces for a party like this, even if it meant being around strangers and having to do the whole how do you do conversations a million times over.
"Hey, there you are!"
"One sec," (Y/n) whispered up into her husband's ear, pecking his neck quickly before she pulled away and followed after Chris just as Chimney approached and slung an arm around Eddie's shoulders. She smiled to him so he knew she wasn't being rude or evasive but she could see Chris sauntering off somewhere and he would cause chaos in his wake and she knew it.
Her eyes followed Chris and she tried to keep up the pace after him when he started to squeal. She knew he was aiming to find of the 118 crew but there were so many workers and family members here that Chris couldn't seem to spot anyone he knew.
The music was pounding through his blood making him vibrate, the excitement was coursing through the air and all the chatter was bubbling him up like a ticking time bomb. But he was happy, weaving his way through as (Y/n) quietly called out his name, not wanting to draw attention or seem like she was telling him off when she was only trying to keep watch over him.
"Baby I-" A gasp tumbled past (Y/n)'s lips and she leaned to the right, steadying herself just in time before she tripped and barged into someone by mistake. Her eyes darted to the left to see who had turned round towards her so suddenly they put her off balance.
She didn't know him. Not surprising since a whole new fire crew were in the 118 station today for the party.
The stranger had a wide grin like he knew something she didn't and he had very dark brown eyes that glistened in a way that made (Y/n) uncertain. She watched him slick his floppy hair back on on his head and tuck his hand into his pocket while his other hand was curved round a beer bottle.
When she heard Chris start to squeal, (Y/n) leaned around the stranger to catch a glimpse of her son. Chris had his arms stretched out towards Bobby who happily picked him up and started chatting to him. (Y/n) would of loved to watch more of their interaction but she tensed when the stranger leaned into her line of sight and cut off her view of her son. He clearly wanted her attention.
"Hi, don't think I've seen you before. I'm Don, I work for the 221 station." He moved to hold his hand out in front of her and to prevent from being rude, (Y/n) curved her lips into a smile and shook his hand. At least, that's what she thought he was going for until he moved her hand up to his lips and kissed the back of her hand.
"I'm (Y/n)," Her smile started to falter as she slipped her hand out of his rather tense grip and dropped her hands to her sides.
"Don't tell me a beauty like you works in this fire house?"
"Uh, no, my husband works with the 118."
He seemed to notice the wedding ring (Y/n) was anxiously spinning around her finger and it dampened his smile.
"Married, huh? Where is this husband then?"
"Actually, I'd best go find him," She swerved round him before he got say another word. He wasn't exactly friendly but he was crossing some sort of line and (Y/n) didn't want to be around him. She would rather be with the team members she knew or next to Eddie and Chris, her boys always made her smile and feel relaxed.
Her eyes found Chris before they found her husband.
Chris was still with Bobby and he was smiling but the moment he noticed balloons near the drinks table, he was dragging Bobby over there to get one. They were for decoration but (Y/n) knew the 118, they were extremely soft when kids were involved and she knew the Captain would sneak one of the balloons down for her son.
Her eyes panned round the room until she found Eddie, stood chatting to Chimney and Maddie near one of the trucks.
When she reached him, (Y/n) pressed a kiss to his shoulder while she rummaged around in the backpack he was still holding. It seemed pointless bringing along her own bag when she could fit her purse, phone and few essentials into Chris's backpack. They had to bring his EpiPen, emergency meds and a few toys and emergency items that would help if he had a meltdown.
"I'm being raided," Eddie mumbled quietly as he turned his head to look behind him.
"Someone is getting a bit overexcited." She waved the noise-cancelling ear phones for him to see. It would be best to get these on Chris now so he didn't get too hyped up and crash when everything started to overwhelm him. The more settled he stayed now, the longer they would be able to stay.
(Y/n) looped the headphones over her wrist but her other hand reached down to slide into Eddie's palm and hold tight. She could feel the way his smile morphed into confusion as he kissed her forehead and nuzzled his nose into her hair.
"Come with?"
"Yeah, you alright?" He nodded over at Chimney before he turned and followed (Y/n) in Chris's direction.
"Just don't wanna bump into strangers alone," It would be too silly of (Y/n) to admit that she had been unnerved by one of the other station's team. All he had done was introduce himself and try to strike up a conversation, he hadn't been crude or nasty or invasive but (Y/n) just didn't like something about him.
But she felt a lot more at ease when Eddie let go of her hand to wrap his arm around her waist. His fingers splayed out on her hip as he kept her tucked into his side.
He couldn't help but glance his eyes around the station that had become his second home, looking for some kind of trouble or someone that was a little off. He knew (Y/n) didn't like meeting strangers but she had been so at ease when she met his work team, he thought it would be the same with the other station considering Eddie didn't know anyone either. Maybe he was just being too cautious, too overprotective.
"Here baby," (Y/n) slipped the headphones over Chris's head when he tilted back to look up at her and he grinned that cheeky smile that always made her heart melt. Her hands stayed on his shoulders for a few moments but she turned her head when she felt both Eddie's arms curve around her waist. His drink rested against her stomach and his lips burrowed into the side of her neck making her shiver.
"Shall we get some food?" He looked down at them both with a smile and Chris nodded.
"Bobby got balloon for me,"
"Let's keep it safe then," (Y/n) gently took it from him and tied the strong around one of his crutches so he could still get something to eat without fretting the balloon would fly away.
"Ahh there he is," Buck patted Eddie's shoulder just before they reached the buffet table Bobby had set up earlier. "Can I steal your hubby for a while?" He smiled down at (Y/n) and ruffled Chris's hair who was too focused on the balloon to complain if Eddie disappeared again for a few minutes.
"Bring him back in one piece then Buckley."
"I won't be long, save me some," Eddie pressed a lasting kiss to her neck and squeezed her hip before he pulled back and let Buck guide him round near the gym.
(Y/n) kept her hands on Chris's shoulders and moved a bit closer to the buffet, looking over what was on display and what Chris could have. It was also a case of what Chris would have, he was a fussy eater who only liked a certain range of food and most of it had to be something his parents cooked for him. But he had quickly grown to love anything Bobby baked for him so (Y/n) had decided not to bring him a pack up today.
He grabbed himself a plate but held it up so (Y/n) could put food on it, he knew better than to pick stuff out in case it contained anything he was allergic to.
(Y/n) picked out a few cocktail sausages and some ham sandwich slices which thankfully had no butter on them. There wasn't too much that Chris would eat but there was a plate of cookies that said 'allergy free' and (Y/n) just knew Bobby had made them for Chris. The captain had learned quick what Chris could and couldn't eat so he was never left out at parties or if he ever joined the team for dinner.
"Is the food here any good?"
Her head turned to the right and her hand left Chris's shoulder when she noticed it was Dom stood beside her with a plate in hand. She tried to steady her hands when she reached for a plate but his catfish smile was off-putting.
"I-it's great, the captain can cook anything." (Y/n) hastily filled her plate with a selection that she and Eddie could pick at when he came back. And she prayed he would wander back over sooner rather than later.
Her throat tightened when Dom suddenly leaned across her instead of simply moving round her to reach the other side of the table.
His hand brushed her arm, then skimmed her dress and made her hold her breath but it was the way he grinned at her that put her off the most. He leaned across the table until his arm was practically meshed into her side and she had to take a step away.
She could have screamed when he tilted his head and took a very eager and rather obvious look down her cleavage. His head was so close his breath almost fanned against her chest and with that, (Y/n) backed over towards Chris who was waiting patiently at the end of the table with a handful of cookies now dumped onto his plate.
"I still don't see that husband of yours,"
"And I don't see why that's any of your concern."
"Just trying to chat with a pretty lady, is all."
She turned her back to him and grabbed Chris's shoulder, quickly diverting him towards a table out of the way so they could eat in peace. Away from the person who was seemingly a creeper.
They quickly found a table and (Y/n) pulled out a chair for Chris and shuffled her chair a bit closer to his when she sat down which made him smile. Eddie would see them when he was ready to come back and eat and everything would be better when he sat back down with them. Dom would see (Y/n) didn't want to make friends with someone as pushy and uncomfortable as him when Eddie came back to her side.
She tried to pick at her food but her appetite was hit and miss and right now she wasn't hungry so she moved the plate away. Eddie would be hungry, she knew he would and he could eat it when he came over.
Her hand moved to run through Chris's hair that was slightly bedded down with the headphones but he was still smiling.
"Want some juice?"
"Yes please,"
Leaning across, (Y/n) kissed his cheek and pinched a cookie from his plate as she got up. He would be fine to sit here and finish the cookies he was more interested in than the other picnic bits of food. She would only be a minute or so. There was a lot of soda out for the kids but Chris didn't need any more sugar in his system and too much fizz made him feel sick so juice would be his best bet for now.
(Y/n) grabbed two plastic cups and leaned over the table to reach for the jug of juice. Her lips pressed together to hide a smile when she felt a hand on her hip and a body lean close to her back.
"What did Buck need you f-" (Y/n) trailed off, standing stricken and unnerved when she turned and realised it wasn't her husband behind her.
The hand on her hip no longer just rested there or felt loose and careful, it was tight and possessive and sharp like claws puncturing through her dress into her hip. And his chest almost slammed into her back, knocking her into the table and causing her to let the jug drop back down on the table with a clash.
"What are you doing?" She tried to move back but his arm tightened and forced her into his side again.
"Chatting to the prettiest woman here, hey you've got a sweet kid over there-"
"I do, and I have a husband who wouldn't like you grabbing me like this so get off me." With a small ounce of effort, (Y/n) jammed her left elbow into his lower chest and shoved until she winded him and made him stumble back a step. She poured a shaky glass of juice and ripped herself away from his side, praying no one had seen that interaction or noticed how uncomfortable it had made her.
Where's Eddie?
(Y/n) could see him when she looked around, nor could she see Buck anywhere either. They must have wandered off or headed outside where Hen was just wandering off to. Wherever he was, (Y/n) was both relieved and perplexed that he wasn't around. He would have blown a fuse if he noticed that scene which (Y/n) was relieved he hadn't, but at the same time she wanted him close by so it didn't happen again.
Her hands trembled and her stomach churned like she was about to be sick when she sat down next to Chris and placed the cup in front of him with a timid smile. She couldn't risk worrying him and have him knowing something was wrong, Chris always sensed and picked up on change in moods.
Reaching over, (Y/n) wrapped her arms around Chris and pulled him close so she could snuggle him into her side and kiss his temple. She felt his hands batting and curling into her back as he giggled into her chest, unsure why she was suddenly hugging him but very happy about the contact.
"Mummy…" Tilting his head back, Chris perched his chin on her chest and looked up at her with a beaming, open-mouth grin and bright eyes.
"Hm?"
"Toilet… toilet,"
"Come on then baby," Her arms looped under his arms and she lifted him up and onto his feet but he didn't grab his crutches. He didn't want them. He stood in front of (Y/n) and held her hands in his at his sides to keep him steady, he was too excited to bother with his crutches and (Y/n) knew it.
She walked with Chris practically stood between her legs, giggling and swaying their hands as they made a slow walk between the crowds towards the gym. The toilets were just down the corridor next to the gym.
"Do you need help or shall I wait out here?" (Y/n) opened the toilet door wide and smiled down at Chris when he shook his head.
"No, me do it."
"Alright, I'll stay here," Once he was inside, (Y/n) shut the door and heard Chris giggling to himself. She just prayed he wouldn't see the emergency red cord in there that was in case anyone fell or had an accident. She wouldn't want Chris messing around and pulling the cord and an alert sounding out to Bobby or the team during the party.
A gasp stuttered past her lips and her back burned when a rough pair of hands grabbed her shoulders shoved her back into the wall beside the door. Her hands instantly slammed out in front of her, smacking a slender chest and bashing out at the arms forcefully pinning her to the wall. But when her eyes focused, her blood ran cold and drained down to her feet.
Dom. Did he follow her and Chris down here? What did he think he was doing?
"Get off me!" (Y/n) didn't want to raise her voice too loud in case Chris could hear. The music was still blasting down the halls throughout the station but it was quieter down here and he had his headphones on to make every sound diminished. (Y/n) couldn't risk him hearing the altercation and panicking or having a meltdown or witnessing whatever this was turning out to be.
"You were being rude back there," His voice was oddly calm and low as if he was giving her a little repremand rather than pinning her up like this. "I don't tolerate attitudes like that, especially not at a party. You should be nice to me."
Tears welled up in (Y/n)'s eyes when he sneered each comment in her ear and leaned so close she could feel each rapid breath panting against her neck. He was too close. He was digging his fingers into her shoulders. His chest was pushing her back into the wall like he was trying to squish her.
She turned her head to the side, not giving him the satisfaction of having eye contact or the impression she cared at all what he said.
Her hands moved out again and she forced her forearms down into his elbows and leaned her weight onto his arms to cave them in and get his hold off her shoulders. But he reacted fast and before (Y/n) could side step him and move away, his arm was back around her and pinned across her chest, pushing her up into the wall.
"No-" His hand raked up beneath her dress and his short nails punctured into her thigh at the same time (Y/n) brought her knee up to his groin.
"Get the Hell off her!"
Terror, relief and panic shuddered through (Y/n) when Buck's voice boomed down the hallway and overpowered the music drifting through the station. His hands were on Dom in an instant and he ripped him away, forcefully shoving him into the other wall opposite and keeping him pinned up by the collar of his shirt. As soon as he was pulled away, (Y/n) bound her arms around her chest and let her back slide down the wall until she was sat in a heap on the floor.
Her eyes flitted up to look at Buck when he turned to check she was alright. Panic pooled in his eyes that sweeped over her frame, checking for any sign that meant he needed to attack the stranger he had pinned to the wall.
"C-Chris…" She shakily pointed towards the toilet door. He would be coming out of the toilet soon and he couldn't see this mess.
"Get the fuck outta this station! You don't belong here." Buck sneered each word in Dom's ear before he gave him a violent shove in the direction of the station floor. He needed to leave before Buck told Eddie what had happened and a fight broke out. He was not one of their team and he didn't deserve to be called part of the station family if he treated someone like this; especially if that someone was (Y/n).
(Y/n) clenched her hands into fists, trying to stop herself from shaking. She couldn't help but flinch when Buck crouched down in front of her and held her arms while he looked over to see for himself that she was alright.
"Hey, hey it's alright, I… I'll take Chris for a dance and get Eddie down to you, alright?" He nodded more to himself than to (Y/n) when she gripped his wrist and nodded in agreement.
The moment the toilet door opened, Buck was up and out in front of his nephew. He covered Chris's eyes with his hand and moved the other hand to his shoulder, managing a pained smile when Chris giggled excitedly and clapped his hands, unsure what was happening. This was what happened when he got given a surprise. Why was he getting a surprise?
"Just the guy I was looking for. Come on, Bobby has some cake for you," Buck moved both his hands to cover Chris's eyes and waddled down the hall with Chris between his legs, his little arms stretched out in front of him, playing along with the game.
For a minute or so, (Y/n) dropped her face into her hands and tried to breathe through the adrenaline shooting into her blood. Why did this have to happen to her? Why did he take a sudden liking to her and not someone else? Why did he even have to be here? This was supposed to be a fun party for the fire stations and their teams. It wasn't supposed to be a day where someone caused a scene and (Y/n) ended up ruining the party.
She had to move. She had to get up and try and pull herself together so she could go back to the party and make sure Chris was alright and didn't hear anything. It was time for them to go, or at least for (Y/n) to go and the boys could stay and enjoy themselves and she could pick them up later. There was no way (Y/n) was staying here after that, she wanted to go home.
Her palms pressed against the wall she used as leverage to get herself up onto unsteady feet and buckling knees.
Another bout of panic burst to life in her stomach when her eyes caught on a familiar figure jogging down the hall towards her. Seeing the panic on Eddie's face and knowing buck had probably told him what happened made (Y/n) feel sick. The last thing she wanted was to cause a scene or make conflict between the stations. Her hand stayed on the wall as her other hand moved to press to her stomach, trying to reassure herself she wasn't going to be sick.
"What's going on, Buck said something happened but he didn't say what," Eddie stumbled back a step with the force (Y/n) pummelled herself into him with. His arm instantly bolted around her waist and he moved his hand to cradle the back of her head as a look of utter panic flooded his face.
He felt (Y/n)'s arms bind around his neck like bars of iron but he didn't like the way she was shaking against him. But it was the tears he felt soaking into his neck that rang alarm bells in his head and stiffened every muscle in his body.
"Mi amor… baby talk to me. What happened?" Eddie pressed his lips against the side of (Y/n)'s head and slowly carded his fingers through her hair but he didn't know what to do. Either she had somehow hurt herself or something had happened with someone else here and that made goosebumps prickle on his skin. Did he need to take her to a doctor or sort some kind of situation out with someone in the station?
"I wanna go home," (Y/n) moved her hands to grip Eddie's shirt when his hands moved to her shoulders and he slowly wrenched her away just enough to be able to look down at her.
A fresh wave of tears streamed down her face when his hands cupped her face and his thumbs smoothed over her skin beneath her eyes. He leaned forward to tilt his forehead down against hers but (Y/n) could see the darkness swirling in his eyes when she grabbed his wrists so tightly he was shaking along with her.
"Tell me what's happened, is it the baby?"
He knew it was nothing to do with Chris who had been a babbling mess when Buck guided him over to Bobby who was dishing out the cake. Chris had been starting up his echolalia which proved he was having a good time and was happy and laughing around the team. So it had to be something else happening with (Y/n).
"Someone from the 221 team, h-he was getting too close…"
"What did he do?" She didn't like the dangerous tone to his voice or how deep it had gone which sent shivers down her spine. This was exactly why she didn't want this conversation, she knew what her husband was like once he was riled up. Especially if his family was involved.
"P-pushed me into the wall but Buck intervened, told him to leave. Baby I'm okay, I just wanna go home. Please take me home." He hadn't exactly hurt her, he had caused an ache in her back and shoulders but other than giving her a fright, he hadn't done any damage which was a relief. (Y/n) didn't want to tell Bobby and have a scene or stop the party and she didn't want Eddie taking this into his own hands and starting a fight.
Whenever Eddie got into a fight, he always finished it and came out on top and he didn't always manage to hold back.
All (Y/n) wanted was to get Chris and go home and forget what had happened. She wanted to get Chris in the bath and in front of the tv with a movie and start the wind down routine to get him settled in the evening. (Y/n) wanted to be at home with her boys, this party had turned sour.
"Who was it?" His hands let go of her face and moved down to grab her hips, keeping her pulled against his chest that was heaving even with her hands rubbing up and down his chest to try and get his attention and calm him down. He turned his head but he couldn't see anyone in the party from back here in the hall.
"I don't know, baby please…" The pain in her eyes mixed with the tears was enough to melt the bubbling rage Eddie was feeling. He sighed to himself and rolled his lips together before he nodded and let himself relax a little.
"We're going mi amor, let's grab Chris but I am talking to Bobby in the morning about this."
There was no way Eddie was going to let this slide. Someone had terrorised his wife and hurt her while their son was here, no one would get away with that. If Chris had seen anything it would have been a whole other matter entirely but since he was happy and oblivious and (Y/n) wasn't physically hurt other than being shook up, Eddie would leave it for today. He would come back first thing in the morning and ask Bobby to do something about it, the captain would know what to do and how to go about getting the bastard done for this.
He would be having words with Buck as well to see if he knew who it was and if he could point him out for Eddie's future reference.
(Y/n) coiled her arms around Eddie's bicep and nuzzled her face into his shoulder, pushing herself up into his side as close as she could get to him. She felt his lips press to the top of her head and his hand grazed across her stomach when they started to walk down the hall.
They would make up a quick excuse to leave and get Chris who should at least be tired and not too upset that they were leaving so suddenly. He had had some fun with the team and eaten cake and picnic bites, he wouldn't be too unsettled when they got him home.
Eddie's eyes found Chris immediately, seeing him stood at the buffet table near the entrance with Bobby and he started to guide them both in his direction but a few feet away, (Y/n) stopped. His lips left her temple and he pulled back enough to look down at his wife, wondering what had caught her attention.
He could feel her hands digging into his bicep and she smothered her lips and nose against his shoulder.
"Mi amor-" He cut himself off when he heard Buck's voice and looked over near the entrance.
"I told you to get lost, people like you aren't welcome in our fire house." Buck gave someone a rough shove backwards, sending him stumbling over his feet and Eddie knew instantly. That was the guy. That was the person who had shaken up his wife and tried to hurt her.
"Stay with Chris." He kissed her forehead and gave her a quick, knowing look before he bolted from her side over towards his friend and a new enemy he was about to pummell.
He needed to be taught a lesson.

Summary: Eddie has some time before his shift and he intends on spending it with his wife early in the morning. His son, however, has other ideas and Eddie starts to get desperate for his wife.
Enjoy.

A groan rumbled up Eddie's chest and past his lips when he checked the time on his phone. He turned off the alarm in advance and threw his phone back under the pillow where he left it during the night.
He wasn't looking forward to this. Two days on the trot; four shifts in a row where he could get a few hours of sleep in the bunker in between. God knows how many callouts he was going to see over the next two days.
But it was going to be two days away from Christopher. Two full days away from his wife, and when she looked like this, that felt like a crime.
He wasn't ready for a long shift away, he hadn't done over a fourteen hour shift in over two months and this past month it was starting to feel like he was finally living at home, not the station. Eddie didn't want that balance to shift back to where he worked at the station and visited his house.
He moved his hand that was stuck under the pillow and rubbed his eyes to try and wake himself up and get his mind going. But a smile curved at his lips when he felt (Y/n)'s fingers curl around his arm that had been laid over her chest in his sleep. She pulled his arm tighter around her chest and started to glide her fingers up and down his skin until he was shivering with goosebumps beneath her touch. And when she kissed his arm and peppered a trail up his bicep, he was leaning forward, groaning into her hair.
It was always hit and miss how they would wake up in a morning. Sometimes Eddie would wake up on the edge of the bed with Christopher wedged between them. Other times he had (Y/n) laid directly on top of him and he realised why he dreamed he was drowning because it was hard to breathe but he wouldn't have it any other way.
He liked these mornings the best, where he woke up with her wrapped up in his arms and a while before he had to get up and ready for shift. And when there was no little monster in the bed with them, mornings like this got even better.
"Do you have to go soon?" (Y/n) muttered the words quietly against his arm, her voice laced with sleep but her fingers were still running up and down his arm. And Eddie could feel her shuffling back until her back was moulded against his bare chest as if the minimal space between them was an ocean she wanted to disappear.
"Hm, I've got some time."
(Y/n)'s eyes shot open and a gasp tumbled past her lips when the arm she had been holding onto shot down to her waist and he rolled her over onto her back. She could feel herself laughing quietly when Eddie climbed over her and moved so he was kneeling between her legs. Both his hands planted down on the pillow beside her head and his teeth flashed in a sharp grin that made his eyes crease at the corners.
She brought her hands up to cup his face, smoothing her thumbs over his cheekbones as he leaned down to press a kiss to her lips.
"Afraid this has to go, though." Eddie leaned back and rested his weight on his heels before his hands slowly trailed down her sides until he could grab the hem of her shirt. It clung to her frame tight enough that there was nothing left to the imagination and when (Y/n) bit her lip but obliged and leaned up to let him peel it off, it was like he was taking off a layer of her skin.
He threw the small, flimsy material down on the floor and gave the cover a nudge until it fell off his back and crumpled to the bottom of the bed. He was starting to burn up already, they didn't need any extra layers on covering them.
While he took a moment to admire the view in front of him, (Y/n) took her chance to scrape her nails agonisingly slow over his skin, starting from his abdomen and she worked her way up until her hands were curved around his neck. Her fingers tickled the small hairs at the back of his neck and she sat up to meet him in the middle, moulding her chest against his before she pulled his lips down to hers.
(Y/n) could feel the fever behind his kiss and the way his fingertips dug bruisingly into her hips when she pushed her chest up against him just to irritate him and goad him further.
Her lips curved into a smile against his and when she pulled back (Y/n) sucked his lower lip between her teeth and have a small tug until she could feel the growl deep in his chest, rumbling through into her own.
Her fingertips slid away from the back of his neck and trailed their way back down the middle of his chest, covering every square inch that she would. Her plump lips left Eddie's and moved towards his razor sharp jaw and when she could feel him starting to quiver beneath her, she started to kiss down his neck.
The moment her teeth grazed against his neck about to leave a mark, Eddie grabbed her wrists that were near his abdomen and leaned his weight onto her. He pushed her down into the bed again and fell forward with her until his chest was moulded down against hers and her hands were pinned down to the mattress. He tried to keep some of his weight on his legs and arms so he wasn't fully crushing her beneath him but he could still feel every inch of her pressing into him. Even the curve of her small bump moulded perfectly against his lower abdomen.
"My turn." There was something demanding and authorative in his voice that was not to be messed with and all (Y/n) could do was turn to mush beneath his touch.
She barely had chance to gasp before Eddie smothered her mouth with his and let his tongue explore past her lips.
Wet, panting kisses were peppered along her neck and down the middle of her throat so every time she gasped or swallowed, Eddie could feel each movement. He let go of her hands and moved his fingertips across her sides and down the dips and curves to that special area just above her hips where (Y/n) was ticklish. He loved the way her stomach would pull in and she would jump against his touch when all he had to do was lightly trace the pad of his finger along her skin and it had her gasping and laughing beneath him.
"We won't be needing these any more." He hooked his fingers into the top of her underwear and shuffled back on his knees to remove them when (Y/n) lifted her legs.
She watched him throw the dark red lace onto the floor along with her top and a deep laugh rumbled past his lips when she pressed her feet against his hips and managed to push his boxers down rather easily from where she was laid on her back. If he wasn't going to let her sit up and do it manually, she had to get creative.
"I can't decide whether that's eager or impressive,"
"Make up your mind while you take them off."
(Y/n) quipped back, leaning up on her elbows a little so she could watch him lean up and roll them past his knees so he could kick them on the floor. When they were off, (Y/n) sat up and looped her arms back round his neck, desperate to be as close as possible.
"I'm gonna go with eager, but then again so am I." Eddie's hands groped at her hips, admiring the view in front of him now that there were no layers between them.
"Don't think you can last two days, Eddie?" She knew exactly what kind of reaction she got from using his name and as expected, something burned darker and deeper in his eyes.
She felt his hand move and his arm wrapped like an iron bar around her back just above her bum so he could reel her in and pull her closer. He held her so close and tight that he left her up and she had to move her weight onto her feet and the back of her legs to stay tall and close to him like this. Her hands gripped his shoulders to steady herself but she gasped when his other hand moved to grip the underside of her thigh before he pushed her back.
(Y/n) felt her back hit the headboard and her knees coiled up as Eddie shifted forwards onto her chest and kneeled between her spread legs like he always had and always would belong there.
"Don't think I can last two minutes, let alone two days," He gruffed back before their lips crashed together in a silent but deadly battle. He dug his nails tighter into her thigh and moved her leg to hook it around his hip so he could brace his hand on the wall behind the bed. The last thing Eddie wanted was to put all of his weight onto (Y/n) or give her bruises down her spine from the wooden headboard.
"Fuck, Eddie-"
"Mummy!"
"Shit! Shit, no Chris don't do this to me." Eddie buried his face in the crook of (Y/n)'s neck and sank his teeth down on the soft flesh. Praying Chris would settle himself back down and carry on sleeping just for a bit longer. This was the worst timing Chris had ever had, he couldn't shout out yet.
Not now. Now when Eddie needed (Y/n) too; he needed her badly.
"Mummy, help! Mummy!" Oh God, he was crying. He wasn't going to settle himself back to sleep or occupy himself with his books or games or tv in his room. Not when he was crying, he must have had a nightmare and if that happened he wouldn't settle or go back to sleep. He needed one of his parents in there to console him and make him feel better and calm him down.
"Fuck!" Eddie's hand clenched into a fist against the wall and he moved his head to press his lips against the side of (Y/n)'s head. "Why's he doing this to me? Blocked by my own kid."
"Mummy!"
"Sorry baby. I'm coming sweetheart." (Y/n) tilted her head up to kiss the side of Eddie's jaw when he shuffled back an inch to let her move even though he really didn't want to.
"Don't think I will be today,"
"Eddie!" She batted her hand against his shoulder when she pushed off the bed and scanned the floor quickly for something to wear. She couldn't very well walk into his room wearing nothing at all, that would only unsettle him even more.
The first thing (Y/n) grabbed happened to be one of Eddie's work shirts. A back t-shirt with the fire station logo and number in a circle on the left side of her chest. It barely covered her bum so she had to grab Eddie's boxers and slip them on as well but when she did she heard her husband groan and when she turned around, he was kneeling up in the middle of the bed staring at her.
Why did she have to look that good wearing his clothes? That shirt alone with nothing else on underneath was more than enough to drive Eddie crazy. He could see every ridge and curve of her body beneath it and she didn't even realise how she swayed her hips when she walked.
"That's teasing," He muttered defeatedly with his fingers dragging through his hair in a rigid motion.
(Y/n) could hear his harsh steps following her out of their room and she barely turned her head over her shoulder to see what he was doing before he reached out for her. His hand caught her chin and he tilted her head up so he could give her a searing kiss before he let her go.
"I need to get ready," Eddie spoke more to himself and he turned off into the bathroom when (Y/n) diverted down into Chris's room.
He was so close.
There was no way Eddie was going to last two days away when (Y/n) was stood there like that, burning her image into his eyes and leaving it on his brain. How could he go out on a call and focus when his wife was at home looking that good and he couldn't even touch her?
"Chris, I need to head off now. You be good for me and I'll be back Friday night, okay?" Eddie strapped his watch around his wrist before he crouched down beside the table Chris was sat at. He was still wearing his pyjamas and dressing gown, munching away on his cereal.
"Okay, love you."
"I love you too." With his hand pressed against the back of Chris's head, Eddie kissed his temple and leaned over to hug him before he got to his feet and looked over at (Y/n).
The sight of her stood there like that was enough to make Eddie growl and rethink going into work today.
She was still wearing his shirt and boxers which were glued rather shapely against her bum. And his shirt hung off her left shoulder as if giving him a sneak preview of what he was missing out on but it was the way his shirt was bunched up over her hip that made it hard to stay in control. He wanted to go over there and rip it over her head and drag the boxers down to her ankles.
A shiver rolled down (Y/n)'s spine when a familiar pair of strong arms coiled around her waist and she felt Eddie's chin perch on her shoulder. He pulled her back into his chest and lifted her high enough that she had to push up on her tiptoes to stay balanced against him.
The feeling of him breathing and sucking at her neck had her knees going weak but when she looked at the watch strapped on his wrist, she knew he was going to be late if he stayed. And Christopher was awake now, they couldn't exactly do anything without him hearing or noticing. He was an observant kid.
"You'll be late," She turned her head to look at him and he caught her lips in a kiss instead and she could feel his hands slip beneath her shirt. His palms pressed flat against the curve of her stomach before his fingertips traced lower and dipped into the waistband of his boxers that she was wearing.
Two days was going to feel like two years at this rate.
"Eddie, baby… you," Kiss. "Have to," Kiss. "Go."
Maybe she should walk him to the door to make sure he actually left. It wouldn't do him any favours to be late to work when he had a clean track record so far.
She turned around in his arms and have him a gentle nudge until he was walking backwards, his arms back around her waist with his elbows dug into her hips and his hands now cupping her bum beneath the underwear she wore. Her hands reached up to rub across his chest and she continued to nudge him backwards while he stole kiss after kiss from her lips like it was the last time he was going to see her and he was getting his money's worth.
"Don't wanna go,"
"Two days, baby. Then you're off all weekend and Chris is at his sleepover. No chance of interruptions, you'll be mine all weekend."
"Hm, but I want you now." The weekend felt so far away when Eddie had to leave her right now and stay at the station for the next two days. He had to get his head in gear and rush into uncertain situations with this image of (Y/n) at the forefront of his mind. He had to save people and clean the trucks and take a power nap in the back room of the station, all while (Y/n) danced across his mind and all he could have was her voice on the other end of the phone.
And even then, he knew Chris would steal the phone because he wouldn't go to sleep unless Eddie said goodnight to him over the phone when he was away at work.
"Go to work,"
Eddie moved one arm behind him to unlock the door and grab his keys from the lock. He stepped back over the threshold but when (Y/n) moved out of his arms, he held the doorframe and the door to prevent her from closing the door on him.
He waited until (Y/n) cupped his face in her hands and tugged him down to press a feverish kiss to his lips. She let him swipe his tongue across her lower lip, begging for entrance before she pulled back, mumbling a quiet 'I love you' against his lips before giving him a final nudge out the door.
Two days. Two whole fucking days.
How was he going to survive with that image burned into his mind and the desire bubbling away inside of him?
***
Leaning over the bed, (Y/n) pressed a lasting kiss against the top of Christopher's head and smoothed his curls down before she turned on the night light and moved back. He was that tired tonight that he didn't want to wait up for Eddie to come home from shift, he wanted to go to bed and sleep because he knew when his dad came home, he would come in and kiss him goodnight anyway.
She waited an extra second just to make sure he was asleep and settled before she turned on her heels and headed out of the room.
The door barely closed behind her before (Y/n) jumped back against it and gasped when a figure loomed over her in the dim light coming from the living room.
Eddie.
"Christ Eddie, what are you trying to do to me?" (Y/n) pressed a hand over her chest and grabbed his arm to steady herself. She could feel her heart pounding in her chest and jumping up into her throat while the baby started to move from fright.
"You have no idea how long the last two days have been."
With that, Eddie's arms were around her waist and he was pulling her away from Chris's bedroom so they didn't wake him. He wasn't having anymore interruptions this time around. He had gotten so close the other day only for the plans to be ruined and he had spent the last two days desperate to get back home to his wife and take her to bed.
That was exactly what he was planning to do.
(Y/n) grinned and coiled her arms around his neck when his hands moved to cup the back of her thighs and he lifted her up off her feet. He hoisted her up in his arms and wrapped her legs around his waist so she was sat low on his hips. Able to feel every ridge of part of him and see what her image had done to him these past two days.
"No interruptions this time," It was a statement more than a plea or a request and (Y/n) could only nod in agreement before he was smothering her with his lips.
He kissed every inch of skin he could see and reach. Her neck, down her throat then back up to her lips, her nose, her cheek. He nibbled and then bit down harder on her jaw until she was moaning against his lips and gripping his neck tighter. She barely felt him move until she heard the bedroom door open and realise he was carrying her towards their bed.
"I missed you, Eddie. Can you guess how much?"
Her bum hit the bed with a thud and she took the initiative to lay down on her back and dig her heels into the dip on his lower back to pull him down with her.
"God, you're mine now." He groaned in her ear while he unhooked her legs from his waist so he could pull her underwear down so hard and fast (Y/n) heard a rip in the fabric. Looks like she wouldn't be wearing those ones again anytime soon. And they were his favourite pair too.
"Always."
"Let's try again, shall we?"

Tumblr media
A shiver rattled down (Y/n)'s spine and sent goosebumps rising up on her skin when she heard the shower door open. For a brief moment, her arms bound around her chest and she was about to scream until she looked over her shoulder.
It wasn't just anyone on the team wandering in or opening the door by mistake. It wasn't someone trying to sneak a glance at her undressed and trying to clean up ready for their next call out.
It was her husband.
"What are you doing?" (Y/n) took a step closer to the wall and pressed her lips together tightly to smother any noise she might make when Eddie walked in to join her. She was relieved when he shut the door so the draft finally stopped and the water created another aroma of steam to circle around them.
She let her hands drop from around her chest and her eyes closed automatically when his arms circled around her waist.
"Joining you." Eddie tucked his face into (Y/n)'s neck and pressed his lips against her wet, burning skin. He felt the water drip down and flatten his hair and trace down the bridge of his nose. And as fell onto (Y/n)'s shoulder, he felt her shiver against him.
He tightened his arms and pushed forward when (Y/n) groaned as if she might just have the willpower to fight him off and tell him to get out. He knew she wouldn't. He grinned into her neck when she seemed to melt against him instead of push him away.
They were at work. They were on shift.
This was the first time (Y/n) had found Eddie wandering in to take a shower with her while they were at work. He had never been this sneaky before. Usually they were affectionate when their shifts lined up and they worked together, but this was different. This was breaking the rules and testing to see if they got caught or not. (Y/n) didn't want to get caught out.
Her dad wouldn't go easy on them if he found out they were doing this. Evan would have a field day if he found out. Hen would never let them live this down and Chimney would probably die of embarrassment for them.
(Y/n) opened her eyes and looked down when she felt Eddie's hands curve round from her hips to grab and squeeze at her waist. His thumb brushed up and down her skin against the water cascading down around them and (Y/n) took a sharp breath when he suddenly bit down on her neck like a vampire.
"You shouldn't be in here… go next door." (Y/n) motioned her hand to the right to signal any other cubicle. There were four shower blocks in here, Eddie needed to go into one of them and get washed. On his own.
If they were gone for a while at the same time, people were going to notice they were missing and if anyone came in here and found them, they would get disciplined. It wasn't within the rules to take a shower together or cop off while they were still on shift.
"You want me to be lonely?"
"Eddie…" (Y/n) tilted her head back when Eddie moved his lips down and started to bite another mark onto her skin. If it wasn't bad enough that he was taking the risk to be in here, he was also marking her up and if people noticed, they would know what they'd done. "You want us to get reprimanded?" She countered, but her words did very little to persuade him otherwise.
She took her time turning around in his arms and her hands traced down to his chest to try and nudge him backwards. If he was going to do this, she would try and get out with him. (Y/n) would cut her shower short and get out if it stopped Eddie from becoming insatiable like this.
"No one knows you came for a shower. Just let me have five minutes with you, baby. Please? No fun and games, I swear." Eddie dug his fingertips into her hips and pushed her back until her back hit the tiles and she gasped.
They were like ice cubes sticking to her burning skin and the mix of hot and cold made her shake until Eddie tilted his head down so their foreheads were pressed together.
He just wanted five minutes alone with his wife. They were pulling a double shift at the station. Eddie wanted a few minutes alone with his wife before they had to go back on shift and be somewhat professional. He wasn't asking to risk getting caught or risk having sex in the shower and get carried away. He just wanted to be as close as he could to (Y/n) for a little while. Just a few minutes.
She liked the way the water dripped down from his pale pink lips and jumped free from his chin. Each droplet made (Y/n)'s chest tighten while she reached her hands up to cup the back of his neck.
"Five minutes." She warned, keeping her fingertips pressed against his skin as she pulled him down to her level and connected his lips onto hers.
She sucked his lower lip between her teeth and gave a little bite until Eddie growled and pulled her chest up against his.
He cocooned both arms around her waist and splayed his hands out on her back, gliding his fingertips up and down her skin while his temple pressed into hers. He kept her pressed back against the wall and closed his eyes, leaning his chest down onto hers so they were as close as they could possibly get.
This was all Eddie wanted. He just wanted to hold her. He could restrain himself and stop from dragging this moment out into an hour-long shower where people really would notice they'd gone missing. Eddie had self-control and he could about handle holding her and not taking it any further.
When (Y/n) moved her hand up higher and began dragging her fingers through his wet hair, she felt him groan into her lips and his hands pressed down firmer into her back. Her nails scratched against his scalp and she gave a sharp tug on his roots before Eddie disconnected their lips and moved back down to her neck.
He kept his face tucked into the crook of her neck, eyes still closed and lips floating across her glistening skin with a more gentle touch this time. He didn't bite down or attempt to leave anymore marks, he just glided his lips up and down her neck until (Y/n) was reduced to a shivering mess.
He worked his way back up to her face and connected their lips again, but they both froze when they heard the shower room door open.
"Eddie…" She murmured as quietly as she could against his lips but he shook his head and pressed his lips back to hers as if to make sure she stayed silent.
He kept their noses touching and their eyes locked as Eddie leaned down and moved slowly. His hands wormed their way down her back so one hand was in between her hips and the other gripped the underside of her thigh. (Y/n) could feel his fingertips pinching into her skin so he had a good grip and she pressed her lips together tightly when he slowly hoisted her up.
Her shoulders stayed pressed against the tiles and Eddie pulled her leg until she took the hint and wrapped both legs around his hips so she was sitting on his torso. At least this way, if whoever came in happened to look down at their cubicle, they would only see one pair of legs and not two.
"Eddie?"
A light knock on the door made Eddie roll his eyes and tuck his face back into (Y/n)'s neck while her arms tightened around his shoulders. "What? Has the bell gone or something?" Eddie had never been in the shower when the bell sounded to signal a callout. But he guessed he would be able to hear it in here if it did sound.
"Not yet. Bobby wants to have a word with us all… like now. I haven't seen (Y/n), you know where she is?"
"Buck I'm in the shower, get lost and I'll find my wife when I'm done in here." Eddie tipped his forehead against (Y/n)'s neck so his voice didn't come out muffled.
But he couldn't help but groan as he dug his fingers into (Y/n)'s thighs and kept her pressed against the wall, trying to make sure she didn't slide down or make a noise. Evan might keep this a secret if he found out, but he might go and tell Bobby or tease them too, depending on what mood he was in.
"Alright, alright grumpy."
As soon as the shower door slammed closed, Eddie slumped his head back down onto (Y/n)'s shoulder and sighed. He pulled her chest tighter against his and gave her thigh a squeeze. They would have to get out soon before Evan went searching round the whole station and realised (Y/n) wasn't anywhere to be found.
"I think we'd better go get ready," (Y/n) murmured softly into Eddie's hair and she tangled her fingers at the back of his neck. Waiting for him to slowly untangle from her so they could move.
She felt his hand tighten around her thigh and he slowly pulled back and allowed (Y/n) to drop back down to her feet so he wasn't holding her on his hips anymore. His slid his hands up the expanse of her thighs until he was holding her hips and gave her another searing kiss while (Y/n) reached behind her and turned the shower off.
"Don't worry, we can pick this back up when we get home tonight."
(Y/n) tilted her head back into Eddie's shoulder and smiled as they made their way over towards the rest of the team who were lined up near the truck. They joined the procession line and (Y/n) leaned against Eddie's chest. Grinning to herself when she felt his arm curve around her waist so his hand could hold her hip.
Their eyes all locked on Bobby who was stood in front of them with his hands on his hips. Just as he went to say something, they all winced at the piercing sound of the alarm blaring through the air while the red lights started flashing.
Once the sirens finished, Bobby clapped his hands and looked over them all.
"Alright, I'll make this quick since we've got a call. The 178 station are three people down and they need some helping hands for the next few days. (Y/n), I want you to head over there since you're on a double today. Hen's shift finishes in two hours so I need Eddie and Chimney here as my medics. Then Buck you can go there tomorrow for your shift."
A jolt ran through (Y/n)'s heart and she felt her smile dampening, even as she nodded and tried to stay composed.
She didn't want to go to a different team.
One shift was far too long to be working with a completely different team, especially just for one day. (Y/n) would have to get to know them and get into their way of working just for today, they probably wouldn't let her help and she would be sat on the sidelines.
But she couldn't say no.
It wouldn't be fair for (Y/n) to decline and make Eddie go instead or have Evan go when his shift wasn't as long as hers. She and Eddie were on a double shift from last night until eight o'clock tonight. That was why she was going, so she could spend the majority of her shift at the 178 and help them out.
It made no sense to send anyone else when their shifts were going to be over sooner and Eddie was a medic, (Y/n) wasn't. Eddie needed to be here so they still had two medics on the A shift.
And (Y/n) couldn't ask her dad to change send someone else and risk people saying she got preferential treatment. It was hard enough with all the new starters in the 118 when they learned (Y/n) was both Bobby's daughter and Eddie's wife.
"Copy." (Y/n) mumbled quietly while she felt Eddie lean over and kiss the back of her head softly. He could feel the discomfort radiating off of her already.
"Hop in the truck, we can drop you off on the way to the next call."
At least she was getting a lift down there, and she felt Eddie lean down so his lips were hovering over the shell of her ear. "I'll pick you up tonight when we finish." Their shifts had lined up today so Eddie had drove them both here. He could easily swing by the other station and pick (Y/n) up tonight after they both finished.
Once Bobby nodded and motioned his hands towards them, they all hurried over to the lockers. (Y/n) could still feel Eddie glued to her back as they each grabbed their florescent jackets and slung them on before Eddie grabbed both their helmets and headed over to the truck.
(Y/n) liked the fact that their helmets and jackets were matching. They both had 118 printed in the middle, and across the bottom both their jackets said Diaz.
Before they got married, (Y/n)'s jacket had said Nash and one of the team had added 'ER' to the end so it read Nasher. That way it was easier to distinguish who was who when the team needed them on a call since Bobby's jacket read his name, not Captain like his helmet did.
But now (Y/n) had her forever name and she smiled at the feel of Eddie's hands on her hips when the moved to the truck.
He helped her up and climbed in after her, following as (Y/n) moved to sit next to the window on the far side. Chimney and Hen followed in after him and Evan climbed in the front to ride shotgun with Bobby. It was as if they were one big family going on a night out together and Evan, being the favourite child, got to sit up front with his dad.
(Y/n) pulled a headset down over her ears and shrank down into Eddie's side, wishing it was someone else who had to endure an uneasy shift with another team. Why did it have to be her?
It's just for one shift. Just one day. It'll go quick… right?
***
Whatever preconceptions (Y/n) had about joining this team for the day, she had been extremely wrong.
They didn't want to push her to the sidelines and make her watch or be a spare part. It was the exact opposite. Instead of pushing her out because she wasn't one of them, they pushed her forwards instead.
They gave her the jobs they didn't want to do or couldn't be bothered to do themselves.
Head through the burning bulding to shut off the electricity mains at the back? (Y/n) was volunteered. Squeezing down an old mine shaft to find a lost child? Captain McCall gave that job to (Y/n) before she had the chance to tell him she had claustraphobia.
Thank God it wasn't a long mine and the child was conscious and easily able to get back out with (Y/n)'s help.
Now someone needed to go up the ladder and get into the seventh floor of an apartment building to get a woman and child out. And that too was (Y/n)'s job.
She had never done so many odd, strange and straining tasks on the same shift in less than five hours.
And the whole team made it clear she wasn't one of them.
It was as if they were just letting her be here with them, letting her enjoy the experience of working with them. She was a child allowed to play amongst the big kids, but they didn't really want her here.
Can I go home yet? Is it eight o'clock yet so Eddie can come get me?
"This way, you're doing great." (Y/n) smiled behind her at the woman she was guiding down the ladder.
She could feel the woman's head pressing into her shoulder and both hands were clutching (Y/n)'s arm through her jacket. She was afraid of heights and the way she clung to (Y/n) was the way (Y/n) would cling to Eddie whenever she was nervous or uneasy.
Reaching behind her, (Y/n) gave the woman's arm a squeeze before she reached her free hand in front of her to keep hold of the woman's little boy. She couldn't have either of them tripping down the ladder and hurting themselves in front of a team that didn't like or appreciate (Y/n). They might try and report her.
"There we go, Thompson will get you down to the ground safely."
The much taller man, Thompson, gave a curt nod and picked up the little boy while he beckoned the mother over to him.
She seemed reluctant to let (Y/n) go but finally obliged so (Y/n) could unbuckle herself from the safety rope connected to the ladder.
"Alright Diaz, Eddison let's go. Move."
(Y/n) looked across at Eddison who was working on reeling the ladder back down so they could sort out. All they had to do now was make sure the fire was completely out and ensure everyone was on their way to the hospital. The Captain had already talked to the building manager and started to sort things out.
Something sparked.
(Y/n) wasn't sure what it was. Whether it was the mechanism that wound the ladder back in or whether a wire came loose and tripped the electrics, (Y/n) didn't know.
But she knew whatever it was had sent sparks flying out in every direction and had Eddison jumping back when a few volts surged through his hands.
"Christ!" He stumbled back, crashing down on his backside with one hand clinging to the ladder to stop himself falling off the top of the truck.
His weight and force barrelled into (Y/n)'s legs and swept them from beneath her faster than she could react. Her arms flailed out at her sides and a scream burst past her lips when she slipped over the side of the truck. It felt like flying for all of a second before the ground was beneath her and her body plummeted down to a forceful stop.
(Y/n)'s arms coiled into her chest and she landed on her left side with such a bang that all the air left her lungs and he saw stars. Black and white dots sparkled before her eyes and everything spun in circles around her head like she was sat on the waltzers with Chris.
Her heartbeat pulsed through her chest that was quaking up and down against the concrete and after a few seconds, a strangled gasp bubbled past her lips as her lungs finally shocked back into rhythm.
"Diaz… jeez, alright let's get you up."
(Y/n) wasn't sure who it was that leered over her. All she knew was that she was in too much pain and shock to want to get up. And when a hand grabbed her wrist and roughly yanked her up to her feet, (Y/n) all but screamed.
She wobbled back and forth, stumbling back three paces until the man in front of her held her by the shoulders with such a tight grip it felt like he was going to squeeze her like a balloon until she popped. He kept hold of her until she was no longer swaying on her feet and her body was finally being held up by her legs that had turned to jelly.
Why did he drag her up? Couldn't he see that the air had been knocked out of her? Why didn't he just let her recover for a few seconds first? Couldn't he have checked her over before he got her up, what if she had broken her leg or her ankle?
Tears burned down (Y/n)'s face like acid rain and she sniffed, drawing in a deep breath as her head clouded over.
She moved her right hand to try and delicately touch her chest, but even her fingertips grazing over her side made her whimper and sent her knees buckling. She had broken her ribs. She could feel it. Her chest was aching and throbbing and (Y/n) was sure if she took her jacket off she would see her ribcage throbbing with her heartbeat.
"You okay Diaz?"
It was Eddison. He climbed down from the truck and waved his hands back and forth to shake out the pins and needles he'd gotten.
"Ribs… ribs b-broken." She wheezed, unable to draw in a proper breath which left her body stumbling back until she slumped against the truck to prop herself up.
"Captain, Diaz got an injury." Eddison was the only one out of the team who didn't seem annoyed or phased by (Y/n) being on their team today. He was the only one who made an effort to talk to her and right now, he was the only one with sorrow in his eyes and concern etched onto his face.
Thompson, who had dragged her to her feet- something (Y/n) knew none of the trained medics on her own team would have done- just huffed and looked her up and down like she was causing a big fuss over nothing.
She had fallen. Her ribs were surely broken or in the very least, fractured. She could barely breathe and she felt like she was going to pass out.
Did no one in this team care if someone got hurt? Did they all have super healing powers like Wolverine? Could they continue with broken bones like it was a sprain? Well (Y/n) wasn't like that. She was human, she was in agony and she felt like she could barely breathe. She needed someone to see if her ribs were broken and help her.
She needed her team. She needed Eddie. He was the only one who (Y/n) would let assess her when she was injured or unwell. She wanted her husband here so he could check her over and see if she was okay.
Panic burst to life in (Y/n)'s chest when Captain McCall stood a few feet in front of her and Eddison.
He looked them both up and down, scrutinising and assessing them while he glared through narrowed eyes. His gaze made (Y/n) feel like a child or a weakling who had done something wrong. She knew if she were back on her own team, they would have been more understanding and forgiving and concerned. And not just because her dad was her Captain. Bobby was fair, he didn't favouritise and he cared greatly when anyone on his team was injured.
"You're clearly up and moving, you'll be fine. Everyone back in the truck, let's go."
Shrugging his shoulders, Eddison lowered his head and gave (Y/n) a sorrowful look before he turned and heaved into the truck, groaning a she did so.
Was that it? She didn't get checked out or assessed or even get the chance to talk to a medic? She was just glared into like the Captain had X-ray vision and deemed fit and capable to work. To Hell with the tears pouring down her face. Who cared that she could barely breathe? What did it matter that she was in mass agony and couldn't stand up straight?
"C- can't I see a medic?" Ragged breaths escaped her lips as she tilted her head back into the truck and looked across at Captain McCall who she felt very uneasy with.
But the way he clicked his tongue and rolled his eyes made (Y/n) shiver and she knew undoubtedly that she wasn't going to get any help or compassion from anyone on this team.
"Your hubby isn't here to coddle you today and if you're gonna try and follow my team, Diaz, you need to toughen up. Now all of you, get in the truck. Let's move."
Tremors coursed through (Y/n)'s chest and she bit down on her lip to stop the tears from falling. Why did showing she was in pain mean she was weak or useless or any different? What good would it do to be stoic and pretend she could handle anything when she couldn't? Hiding pain would only prolongue her suffering and make her injuries worse if she didn't get them seen to.
But there was nothing (Y/n) could do. This wasn't her team, they had all made that very clear. No one was going to help her if the Captain thought she was being pretentious.
Her right arm bound around her chest and she leaned forward, coiling over to try and reduce the pain in her chest every time she took a breath. Her body leaned to the left and she used the door to propell herself up into the truck.
She slumped down into the seat next to the window, making herself as small as possible. Shrinking away from the others as they all climbed in and started talking about what they would be eating later on for tea at the station.
(Y/n) wasn't going to be with them for that.
She wasn't staying on this team any longer.
She wanted to go back to the 118; to her home.
Her arms stayed cocooned around her chest that was pulsing and pounding and she leaned her head against the window.
It hurt to keep her eyes open and she tried to focus on the passing scenery rather than look at the four other people in the back of the truck with her who were all staring at her every few seconds.
They thought she was weak. They thought she was being a hypochondriac or making this up. They thought she was weak and she was complaining about a few little bruises. She was one of them. (Y/n) was a firefighter, she had been in a few accidents over the years, she had dealt with broken bones and burns and concussions. And each of them had hurt and blinded her with pain. She knew her ribs were broken and she needed them tending to.
As soon as the truck pulled up in the station, (Y/n) flung the door open and flung herself down. Her arms bound tighter to her chest, her body coiled over and leaned forward and she pushed herself to walk down the station and head towards the locker room.
It was empty. (Y/n) couldn't have been more thankful that no one was in there and that no one else followed her into the room.
She headed over to the single locker on the far right. The spare one with no tape across the top and no name scribbled across. It took a lot of effort to shrug off her jacket and she whimpered, chomping down on her lip to make sure she didn't make a sound.
Ruffling through her bag, (Y/n) found her phone and shuffled backwards. She eased herself down onto the bench, swallowing a groan at the shockwaves that rattled up her chest.
She didn't think before she clicked on her dad's contact and pressed the phone to her ear.
She needed help. She couldn't stay here any longer. She wanted to go home to her family.
"Hey sweetheart, how's it going over there? God, we could of used you're referee skills this morning."
He answered. (Y/n) could of fainted with relief when she heard his voice. They were all at work, it wasn't always easy to answer phone calls when they were on shift. At least something was going right today.
The sound of her dad's voice made a tidal wave of tears flush down (Y/n)'s face. She leaned forward, keeping her right arm pinned to her chest as she clamped her lips together and swallowed down a cry. The last thing she wanted to do was cry down the phone to her dad, but she couldn't seem to help it.
"Dad, c- can you help me?" The way she hiccupped through her words made (Y/n) hang her head and scold herself.
Was she being silly? Was she being a child, asking her dad to help her and come get her? Should she just try to put on a brave face go finish the ret of the shift? Could she even finish this shift with broken ribs? With the way this team was throwing her in the deep end, another call might just finish (Y/n) off, and not in a good way either.
"Help you? Sweetheart what's wrong, where are you?" Concern flooded Bobby's voice as his free hand moved to his hip and frown lines appeared on his face.
Why did his daughter need help? She was with another team, she should be surrounded by people there who were willing and able to help her with whatever situation she was in. Did she not feel comfortable asking them for help? What kind of problem was she having?
Was she even still at the 178 station?
"At the station… I think I- I think I've broke my ribs. Dad it hurts, can I c-come back?"
The sob at the end of her words made Bobby's skin crawl and his lips curled in distaste. He lifted his head and looked through his office window just as Evan and Eddie walked by.
Moving across the room, Bobby slammed his fist down on the window three times until the pair of them looked over at him. "Eddie." He pointed to the door before turning his back to the window, silently telling his son in law to get in the office with him.
"Cap?" Eddie gave a worried look across at Evan before he closed the door behind him and stuffed his hands in his trouser pockets. He stood next to Bobby with an arched brow, his attention focused on the phone in his hand as he tried to listen and work out who was on the other end of the line.
"(Y/n)'s had an accident…" Bobby pulled the phone away from his ear and put in on speakerphone. He held the phone between him and Eddie who was now tense with raised shoulders and snarling lips. "Sweetheart, what's happened? Hasn't Captain McCall gotten someone to take a look at you if they're broken?"
"Broken? What's broken? Baby what's happened?"
Eddie's hands slipped from his pockets and moved to hold his hips as his weight fidgeted from foot to foot. What had (Y/n) broken? What had she been doing on shift to get hurt?
He could feel a cold shiver crawling down his spine when he watched Bobby silently point to his chest. She'd broken her ribs.
"He said I… I should toughen up. I can't stay here, I w-wanna come back, I need to… I need Eddie to take a look." Whether she was at this station or back home at the 118, the only person (Y/n) would want to assess her was her husband.
She would have let one of the medics here take a look but she wouldn't of been happy with them trying to bandage her up. She wanted Eddie. Her personal medic.
"Toughen up- he told you to toughen up? Who the fuck does he think he is?!" Eddie's voice boomed down the line and made (Y/n) shiver and coil in on herself.
She had caused problems now.
She had riled up her dad and her husband. They weren't going to let this go. But she couldn't find the will to care or focus on that anymore. She needed them to come down and get her, she had no way of getting back to her own station house and she couldn't walk or bus it. She needed her family.
"We're gonna come and get you sweetheart, alright? We're coming down right now."
***
Eddie could feel the nerves radiating off of Bobby and multiplying his own as the team climbed down from the truck and stormed through the open doors of the 178 station.
But his anger started to overpower his panic when he looked around and suddenly caught sight of a familiar figure.
If (Y/n) had broken or in the very least, damaged her ribs, why hadn't someone sat her down and tried to take a look at her? Why could Eddie see his wife struggling to stock one of the trucks?
He could see the way she was leaning to the left with her shoulders and upper chest leant forward like she had an oxygen tank weighing down on her shoulders. The pain was evident on her face in the way she closed her eyes and how her cheeks sucked in and her lips pursed when she tried to push something up into the truck.
She shouldn't be moving or lifting anything if she had hurt herself, she needed to sit down and rest.
Reaching to the left, Eddie patted Bobby's arm and pointed towards (Y/n) before he jogged over in her direction.
Eddie could feel Bobby hot on his heels and the rest of the team following swiftly. None of the team were sure why they were here. Evan was under the impression they were here to help with a bigger call out, but Hen and Chimney noticed the way Bobby had gone mute and wasn't focusing on what they were saying. something wasn't right.
"Baby,"
(Y/n) coiled her arms round her chest and snapped her head to the right when a familiar voice caught her attention.
Tears welled up in her eyes when Eddie stormed over to her. She looked around the station, relieved no one in this team were paying any attention or looking in this direction. She didn't want them to know she had called her team for help. (Y/n) wanted to climb back into the 118 truck and head back home before anyone knew she had gone. She wanted to disappear.
Her weight pushed onto her back foot when Eddie barrelled over to her. His hands curled around her arms and he moved her a few feet away from the truck so he could look at her.
"Can we go? Can I come back?"
Her words made Bobby wince. It was almost as if she thought he had sent her here as a punishment and she was begging to come home. This hadn't been done to hurt her. Bobby thought this station would treat her equally and look after her like they looked after all their own. Clearly he had misjudged this station entirely.
"Not until Eddie's checked you over and I've had a word with the Captain."
"Dad, please…" (Y/n) shook her head but she gasped when Eddie moved her arms so she was holding them out at her sides.
She didn't have the will to do anything but stay compliant as Eddie dug his fingers down into her waistband and pulled her shirt from her trousers. Her head tilted back and her lips rolled together tightly as Eddie scrunched up her shirt until it was bunched up just beneath her bra, allowing him a clear view of her chest.
His fingertips were firm but somehow still gentle as they trailed up and down her chest. He pressed down on each rib on her left side, taking note of when and where (Y/n) winced, coiled away from him and how she wheezed and gasped when he applied pressure.
He rubbed his fingertips in circles, pressing down on her ninth and tenth ribs which seemed to act as a button to make (Y/n)'s knees cave and had her body jolting down to the right.
"Three are definitely broken and there's a lot of swelling. She needs an X-ray and an MRI."
Eddie didn't want to take any chances. He needed (Y/n) to have an X-ray to check if the breaks were clean and if she had more than one break in each rib. He could see the way (Y/n) was wheezing and that could be a sign that her ribs were broken inwards towards her lungs. He couldn't take the risk of her getting a collapsed lung or breathing into her chest cavity. They had to be safe.
"Baby what happened?"
"I came off the ladder, Eddison collided with me… I fell off the truck-"
"You fell of the top of the truck? Why the fuck didn't someone take you to the hospital?!"
Eddie's hands moved down and gripped (Y/n)'s hips so fiercely he pulled her off balance. Her hands moved to his shoulders and she leaned forward, burrowing her face into the crook of his neck so she didn't have to look at any of them anymore. She didn't want her family to look at her the same way this team had.
"Get her in the truck; she's coming back with us. Where's McCall?" Bobby's hands clenched into fists at his sides and he turned on his heels and stormed past the truck.
His eyes scanned the station as he headed towards where he presumed the Captain's office would be. But he didn't have to search far before a familiar face came into view. He watched McCall waltz across the station floor, clipboard in one hand and a cup of coffee in the other that Bobby wanted to throw at him to gain his attention.
"McCall." His voice shouted dominance and assertiveness while he stormed over to the shorter captain and stood head to head with him. Looking down with arched brows and upper lip curled in distain.
"Nash, what're you doing here? We already got the replacement you sent across this morning."
"I'm here to take her back because she's got seriously injured on your watch. So tell me why you haven't gotten her seen by a medic or taken her to hospital already?"
"Did she call you?" The way McCall leaned around Bobby to try and look for (Y/n) set off a fire burning within Bobby and it made Eddie take a deep breath, supressing a growl. Of course she called them. She needed help and she had every right to call her family when no one here was looking out for her or taking care of her when she was ill.
(Y/n) trailed her hands down from Eddie's shoulders to curl both her arms tightly around his bicep. She leaned into him, despite the pain it caused in her chest and the lack of breath it caused.
"Do your people understand the chain of command? She got knocked down, but she was fine and she got back up. I can't afford to take all my guys down to the emergency room when they get a bruise. My team know how to look after themselves-"
"And my team know if they're hurt, they can rely on me to make sure they're okay. I do not call three broken ribs and extensive swelling as being fine and I sure as Hell don't accept you denying one of my team medical attention because of your uneducated opinion."
"Broken? Come on she was exaggerating."
(Y/n)'s arms coiled to her chest and she took a step towards Hen when Eddie suddenly pulled away from her. She felt Hen's hands move to her arms and she glued herself into her friend, flinching at all of their reactions.
She could see her dad doing his level best to keep his composure, something Eddie was finding very hard to do. While Chimney stuffed his hands into his pockets and shook his head with a grimace. And Evan huffed, nose crinkling as his jaw dropped in disbelief.
"Why don't we break your ribs and see how long you can last on shift?"
"Eddie…"
"Disrespect my wife like that again and you'll be the one needing an X-ray. I don't give a fuck if your helmet says Captain, you sure as Hell don't act like one."
He would start throwing fists if this man or anyone else in this God forsaken station said anything about (Y/n).
She was a damn good firefighter and she had been injured on duty, she didn't deserve to be berated and disrespected like this. She deserved compassion and understanding and to be taken seriously. There was no doubt that she had been hurt badly today and she needed to take time off from work now to recover. She didn't need to be forced to continue working and make herself worse.
(Y/n) shouldn't have to call her family down here to help her and stand up to this team because she was hurt. This wasn't fair on her.
"I'm taking my daughter back to my station, where my team will assess her and take her to the emergency room. You can expect a call from the Chief first thing in the morning when I file a complaint of discrimination and misconduct." Bobby turned to the side and pointed at his team. "Everyone in the truck."
His head snapped back over his shoulder to look back at McCall when he heard a quiet "Your daughter?" echo behind him.
So he truly didn't know. With (Y/n)'s name being changed to Diaz, not many people in the other stations knew she was related to Bobby. Sure, some people knew. Others just knew Bobby had his daughter on his team. But they didn't interact or converse with other stations a lot other than when they met on the job or at big parties.
Bobby hadn't said anything, he never did just in case someone tried to treat (Y/n) any differently or give her a harder time. Clearly, this team had heard she worked with her husband on her team, but they didn't know she was the Captain's daughter.
"Didn't I mention that?" Bobby tossed over his shoulder without looking back as he moved towards the truck.
(Y/n) rolled her lips together and moved her hands to hold Eddie's arm again and pull it into her chest. She felt Hen's hands stay on her shoulders as they walked in a small line towards the truck. She had never been so happy to see the 118 truck, ready to take her back to her proper home, with her family.
It hurt to heave herself up into the truck and she couldn't help but whimper when she slumped down into a seat. But something sweet formed on her lips when Eddie sat down next to her.
She watched him lean over her, pressing his lips to her temple in the process as he grabbed her belt and carefully clipped it round her, trying to be mindful of her chest. Once done, Eddie looped his arm around the back of her shoulders, grazing his fingertips up and down her arm as he tucked her into his chest and smothered his lips against the back of her head.
Once they were all seated and Bobby started the truck, (Y/n) looked around her team. Her family.
She had Hen on her right, Eddie on her left and Chimney and Evan sat in front of her with calming smiles and nothing but comfort and understanding pooling in their eyes.
"I'm sorry you had to come back and get me." She murmured quietly, tilting her head down until her chin tucked into her chest.
She felt so embarrassed. She felt so childish, calling her dad to come and get her and sort things out for her, but it had been (Y/n)'s only choice. She felt like a child being picked up from school when her team came to get her, but she had also never felt safer than when Eddie and her dad turned up and the rest of her team clearly had her back, whether they agreed with her or not.
"You kidding? You think we'd leave you there after what they've just done? You're part of this team, not theirs. We'll look after you." Leaning across, Chimney patted her knee and nodded at her with a comforting smile.
"Nobody is going back to that station- or any other station, for that matter. We stay here with each other."
Bobby's voice was authoritive and firm and not up for debate. He wasn't allowing any more swaps or shift changes. If other stations were low, they would have to deal with it themselves. He wasn't risking the safety of his team to help other stations that clearly didn't appreciate or care about the staff members that came to their station to help.
"What's our motto?"
A soft grin formed on (Y/n)'s lips as she leaned her head on Eddie's shoulder and tucked her face into his neck.
"Who cares?"

[footage of the inside of an ordinary Eastern-European home, taken with a handheld phone camera, the man filming is walking from the living room to the back door of the house]
man, narrating in russian: Every fucking year, this time of the year, the pond at my backyard gets infested. What do ponds get infested with? Frogs? Poisonous weeds? Geese? No. Not my pond.
[The man opens the back door, stepping out into a garden. Three or four nude, human-like figures dash from the borders of a pond back into the water.]
man: Rusalki! I don't know where they come from or how they get here, and I can't afford to hire an exterminator every year. I can't let my cat outside anymore. Last year a rusalka managed to drown a whole deer in my pond, the stench was unbearable.
[He walks as he speaks, approaching the pond. There are several eerily beautiful female beings peering at him from under the surface, their long hair floating in the murky water. Their eyes are gleaming in an unhuman way. The man holding the camera stops to film them.]
man, calm and deadpan: What the fuck are all of you staring at. Get jobs or something.
[One of the rusalki, smaller than the others and clearly not a fully matured adult, slowly reaches out of the water with her white, thin hand, grasping his ankle. He appears unconcerned.]
man: You can't drown me, you little idiot. You're too small. Shoo!
[A loud thud startles the rusalki, making them scatter. A second thud makes it clear these are the approaching footsteps of something massive. The man turns around and points the camera at what appears to be a house, walking past above the treeline with chicken-like legs]
man, now yelling: IF YOUR HOUSE SHITS ON MY YARD AGAIN I SWEAR TO FUCKING GOD-

part one
The journey in the ambulance had been uneventful, despite there being a paramedic in the back of the van with you and your boys, Eddie had taken over your care. The paramedic that had been accompanying in the van had mostly just sat back and let him take over, occasionally pointing out where some bits of equipment were.
The pain in your leg was still excruciating, and it didn’t help that Eddie was shining a light in your pupils every few minutes to check the reactions. Once he realised your leg injury was not your only injury, and you had been knocked unconscious by debris, he had become frenzied urging the driver to go faster while he kept checking your vitals. You hadn't even told him you hit his head, but when he helped you to get a bit more comfortable on the stretcher he noticed the blood that stained his hand after he held your head.
“Eddie, I’m fine, my leg is just hurting” You said, pushing the torch away from your face after Eddie started checking your eyes again.
“Fine? Babe your head is bleeding and your leg is looking a bit squashed,” Eddie sighed. He was clearly worried about you.
Chris had remained curled up to your side on the stretcher, clutching your middle, scared to let go. Despite the stressful situation, his heart had warmed at the sight in front of him.
Once you had arrived at the hospital you were placed in the urgent waiting room. As you were still conscious and talking, people who had been more injured in the earthquake had taken priority over you. Due to the state of your leg the ambulance staff had placed you in a wheelchair and disinfected the stretcher before they headed back out to help more people.
“How are you feeling?” Eddie asked, once again.
“Chris, your dad is crazy,” You said, ignoring Eddie looking at the boy slouched over the arm of your wheelchair. Eddie rolled his eyes and smirked at this.
It wasn’t much longer until you were called to be seen by a doctor, and your boys quickly stood up and wheeled you into the room with the doctor. Chris held onto your hand and walked alongside you as Eddie pushed you.
“How are you feeling?” The doctor asked as soon as she shut the door to the private room.
“Mom got hurt in the earthquake,” Chris spoke first. He was so quick that you hadn’t had the chance to speak yet.
“Well, we better check mom out then,” The doctor said, smiling at Chris.
For the rest of the appointment, you were referred to as mom as the doctor tried to reassure Chris, and it just warmed something in your heart. Unknown to you but it also made Eddie’s heart swell.
Despite you feeling fine, the doctor wanted to keep you for observation overnight and you had managed to convince her to let Eddie and Chris stay with you. Chris went back to being snuggled into your side once you were given a bed, and promptly fell asleep.
“How are you feeling, mom?” Eddie whispered, putting emphasis on the last word.
“Apart from the broken leg, I feel amazing,” you whispered looking down at the sleeping boy tightly curled into you. “I can’t believe he called me mom.”
“He loves you so much, as do I.” Eddie smiled as he leant forward to give you a small kiss “Which I guess means I've got to do something.”
You looked puzzled as Eddie leant over and shook Chris awake.
“Eddie, he was asleep, what are you doing?” you ask, very confused, but your question was ignored.
“Chris, do you remember that thing I said I was going to ask mom one day, it’s time.” Upon hearing this Chris shot up, filled with so much energy and sat up at the end of your bed.
“Your jacket is over there dad” Chris pointed to the chair in the corner of the room. Eddie quickly stood up, and hurried over to the chair, almost slipping over on the clean hospital floors.
“Be careful Eddie, we don’t want both of us injured,” you sighed.
“It’s all good mom, don’t you worry,” he smiled.
Eddie sat down in the chair next to your head, jacket folded over on his lap, and took your hands in his.
“What are you doing?” You sit up a bit more in your bed, confused as to what was happening.
“It’s okay mom,” Chris said. It was hard to feel worried when he called you mom, it made you so happy. You turn back to Eddie who has your hands in his.
“y/n, you have made both mine and Chris’s life so much better. There isn’t anyone I’d rather be Chris’s mom, and my wife.” Eddie paused, reaching into the inside zip pocket of his jacket. You wanted to ask what was happening, but you were in such shock you were speechless. In Eddie’s hand was a small velvet box. While holding the box, he went back to cradling your hand.
“y/n will you do me the absolute pleasure of being my wife” Eddie’s voice started to crack.
“And my mom!” Chris shouted.
“Yes, and Chris’ mom. Will you please marry me?” At this point, Eddie’s voice was wobbling while he awaited your answer.
You struggled to speak, eyes streaming, your spare hand over your mouth in shock. Unable to get the words out you just nodded.
“Yes?” Eddie questioned.
“Yes.” you nodded.
Eddie quickly grabbed your hand and placed the sparkling ring that was once in the box on your ring finger, and then kissed your face all over before placing on last kiss on your lips while cradling your face in his hands.
“Eddie, have you just been carrying around this gorgeous ring?” you asked as you began to admire the jewellery adorning your finger.
“For about a year and a half,” he shrugged looking down at your hand.
“We’ve only been together a little over 2 years,” you laughed.
“I would’ve had it sooner, but it was really hard to get your ring size without being obvious.” he smiled.
“You are crazy Edmundo,” you laughed.
“Crazy for you, and now you’re stuck with me forever.”
“I wouldn’t want anything else, now get your butt on this bed, I want to have a cuddle with my boys,” you said as you shuffled making space for the three of you. Once Eddie was on the bed, you helped Chris get in the middle of you, it was tight and uncomfortable, but you didnt want to be anywhere else.
“I love you guys, and now you’re my boys, forever.” you smiled as you placed a kissed on each of their heads.
“I love you mom”

I feel like it would be weird to picture chris saying mum in an american accent so i tried to only used mom   Also i have started watched the walking dead and am obsessed so pls feel free to request some fics for the walking dead (i’m halfway through s7)
When you and Eddie started dating, you waited quite a while before meeting Chris as you wanted to be sure in your relationship so as not to unsettle Chris. After about 8 months, you were pretty sure Eddie was it for you, and you eventually met Chris. Within 6 months of meeting Christopher you had pretty much moved in with the boys, and when the lease on your apartment was up for renewal Chris was the one who suggested you move in. That was over a year ago and since then the three of you had been living life as a happy little family.
Today, you had a day off from work but Eddie did not, so you had decided to take Chris out for the day. For weeks, Chris had been saying his shoes were starting to get tight so you had decided you would take him to buy some new shoes and buy him a couple extra treats. It wasn’t often you and Eddie weren’t both at work at the same time, even if you didn’t have the same shift, you often overlapped so Chris would spend time with Carla.
Eddie was at work before you even woke up, so you and Chris had a slow morning before heading to the mall. The car journey was filled with music and laughs, you loved spending time with Chris and you guys always had an amazing time.
Once you got to the mall you found yourself chasing Christoper, the shoe shop was all the way on the other side of the mall so you had decided to do fun shopping first. The first stop was at the ice cream parlor, and then the two of you made your way quickly over to the lego shop. You both bought a lego set, as you planned to watch a movie and build lego together in the afternoon. Once the pair of you had gone to all the shops you wanted to, you slowly walked back to the car, trying to agree on a movie to watch while you were building your legos.
You were nearly at the car, when the ground started to rumble. Small tremors weren;t uncommon living in LA, but this was not that. The slight rumble turned to full blown shaking and the lights in the parking garage started to come loose and smash to the floor. You quickly dropped your bags and grabbed Christopher and headed for the car, it might not have been the smartest idea but in your panic it seemed like the safest option if the garage was to crumble.
Somehow, you managed to get to the car in record time as you were opening the door, you noticed a piece of debris falling and you quickly pushed Chris into the car. Within seconds of you getting Chris safely into the car, the debris had come down, knocking you down in the process. You hit your head on the concrete and briefly lost consciousness, but you quickly came around to the sounds of Chris’s cries.
“I’m here Chris, I’m okay,” you mumbled as you tried to wriggle free. Although, your right leg was trapped under the piece of the parking garage that had knocked you to the floor.
Not long after you regained consciousness, sirens were all you could hear and it became nearly impossible to keep your eyes open, and you were soon consumed by the darkness.
“Cap, get Eddie over here!” You heard being yelled from close by. Squinting at the bright light you started to blink your eyes back open and were met with Buck’s face looking down at you.
“Chris, is Chris okay?” you forced out, your throat was hoarse and felt as though you had woken from a deep sleep. You could feel yourself being rolled onto a stretcher, presumably to move you to an ambulance, or at least a safer area.
“Chris was with you?” Buck panicked.
“I think I got him in the car,” you coughed, “Check him first.”
A couple minutes later you heard a car door be forced open, and then Buck’s shouts.
“Chris!” Eddie’s shouts were so loud. He had arrived onto the scene and saw Buck carrying Chris over some rubble away from the car. You turned your head slowly and saw Eddie embrace his son tightly.
“Where’s Y/N?” Eddie suddenly asked. The panic in his voice was palpable.
“Over here,” You heard Buck’s voice get louder as he led Eddie to you. Eddie placed Chris down next to your stretcher and cradled your face.
“Baby, are you okay?” he questioned, whilst scanning your body for any obvious injuries.
“My leg got crushed but I’m fine. How is Chris? Is Chris okay?” you spoke so fast.
“I’m fine,” you heard Chris speak. You could have cried with relief upon hearing his voice. You had seen Eddie carry him, but hearing him speak and confirming he was okay made you so happy.
“Now, let get you taken to hospital, Buck can you take Chris to Athena and get her to call Carla please,” Eddie said as he began to wheel you out of the area. You saw Buck begin to usher Chris towards Athena who you could see a while away directing people.
“No.”
You and Eddie both stopped and looked at Chris who was avoiding Buck and walking towards the two of you.
“Chris, bud, y/n is okay. Your dad is just making sure she gets her leg checked out,” Buck tried to convince Chris.
“No,” Chris shook off Buck’s arms and carried on walking in your direction. Eddie sighed, letting go of your stretcher and turning to Chris before squatting down to his level while holding onto him.
“Chris, I need to take y/n to get checked out. Can you please go with Buck?” Eddie begged.
“No.” Chris was being stubborn.
“Chris please,” Eddie was starting to get desperate.
“I want to stay with mom.” Chris yelled.
You, Buck and Eddie all went still. Suddenly, the atmosphere had changed. Chris had never called you mom before. The three of you all looked at each other in shock unsure what to say or do next.
“Come here Chris,” you beckoned the boy, before helping him to sit on one side of the stretcher after you had collapsed the arms, “You can stay with me.”
Eddie was still looking at you in shock, starting to feel love swell in his chest. The idea that Chris saw you as a mother figure made him so happy.
“Chris, it looks like your dad is frozen,” you laughed whilst looping one of your arms around the boy. You had managed to get him in a place where he wasn’t near your leg which was causing excruciating pain.
This brought Eddie out of his shock and he walked over to the two of you.
“I love you both so much,” he breathed as he leant to kiss both of your foreheads, “Let’s go get mom all checked out.”

A different kind of feeling.
Pairings: Dean x Reader
Reader gender: Female
Warnings: Mentions of a possibly abusive past, mentions of alcohol.
Word count: 1340
Dean and Sam Winchester wandered into a lonely bar off the edge of town. They had just completed a successful hunt, and were in the mood to celebrate. Castiel had returned to the bunker, not wanting to enter the bar. Entering the bar, the atmosphere wasn’t like most, it had a more uplifting atmosphere, even though there was still many drunk men in the bar, there wasn’t as many as most bars, and the men seemed more Dean and Sam’s age. They weren’t as old.
Behind the bar, were two girls. Both seemed very lively, smiling as they served, and almost skipping around the bar. The boys wandered over to the bar, and sat on two empty spaces near the end, not wanting to seem too suspicious. People in small towns could get suspicious of newcomers really easily. The girls smiled, before one of them bounded over to the group of men on a table in the far corner.
*   *   *   *   *
You joyfully pondered over to Lucas, Tyler and Peter. They were regulars in your bar, in almost every night. You grinned as you placed their beers on the table in front of them.
“Thanks, Y/N. How much do we owe you?” Lucas asked. They had only just entered the bar, but Lucas was always a pay up front kind-of-guy.
“Nothing until you’ve finished drinking.” he rolled his eyes, running a hand through his jet black hair.
“Thanks.” Peter and Tyler spoke in unison as you wandered back behind the bar.
“Lucy, I’m gonna head over to the newbies. Do me a favour can you serve Jackson and his brother?” Lucy nodded, smiling as she bounded off.
You watched the taller man, nudge the shorter one, as you neared them. As the shorter one turned, you noticed his bright candy apple green eyes. They bored into yours as you walked over and leaned on the bar in front of them. They smiled at you. The shorter man seemed slightly more dazed than the taller brown haired man. You tucked a strand of your (h/c) hair behind your ear, before smirking at the boys.
“Well, hey. Can I get you boys anything to drink?” you offered. When the shorter man didn’t respond, the taller one rolled his eyes before nodding.
“Could we have two beers please?” You nodded.
“Sure thing. We are in a bar after all.” he chuckled. “So, are you new in town?” you asked politely, as the beer poured into the glasses.
“Erm, yeah. We just moved in around the corner.” It wasn’t a lie, they had only recently moved into the bunker, and were just getting used to its surroundings.
Nodding, you smiled, placing the glasses in front of them. You squinted slightly before smirking once again at the green-eyed man.
“You don’t talk much, do you?” the sound of your voice echoed through Dean’s ears and bought him back into reality.
“Ah-oh! Sorry. My name’s Dean, this is my-my younger brother S-Sam.” the older brother stuttered, causing Sam to widen his eyes at him.
“Are you okay man?” Sam asked quietly, as you watched the two curiously.
“Hey! Y/N!” you turned your head to the side, where Jason, your asshole ex was walking towards the bar. Sighing, you turned back to the brothers.
“Excuse me for a moment.” you stormed up the bar, and stared at the fuming man. “What do you want? I’ve told you to stay the hell away from me!” he leaned forward slightly causing you to step back.
“And I’ve told you you’re coming with me. You’re mine Y/N.” you wouldn’t say it out loud, but you were frightened he’d do something drastic, but you weren’t going to go anywhere with him.
“I do not belong to you, Jason. We are no longer together. You need to leave.” you began to turn around, but he grabbed your arm forcefully. The bar had become unusually silent, and everyone’s eyes were trained on the two of you. Mainly his hand on your arm.
“Remove your hand from my arm.” you growled. He smirked and pulled you closer.
“I’d suggest you leave her alone, Marks. Or your face will be splattered all over the pavement.” Jason reluctantly released your forearm, and turned to face Lucas, who was glaring ferociously at him.  Lucas was your best friend, much like Lucy. Jason glanced at you before, stalking out of the bar, and you gulped. Once the bar was in the clear of Jason, Lucas turned to you.
“Hey,” he spoke softly. “Are you okay?” you nodded. He continued to question you, but you snapped.
“Look, I’m fine. Okay?” you hated people fussing over you, and repeatedly asking you questions wasn’t helping. You just wanted to brush the encounter off, and get on with your life. Lucas nodded, noticing his mistake and continued back to his table. Taking a deep breath, you walked back to the brothers you were talking to earlier, and gave them a gentle half smile.
“I am so sorry about that.” you muttered, not linking eye contact with either of them. You felt embarrassed to say at least. Ashamed.
“It’s fine,” Sam explained quietly. “Who was he, if you don’t mind me asking?” you sighed, leaning on the bar with both hands.
“That was my obsessive ex-boyfriend Jason Marks.” you began. “We went out for like a year, then he started acting weird. Like he’d turn up on my doorstep drunk. And he’d say odd things. It was scary. So I left him. But ever since I broke up with him, he hasn’t left me alone.” you concluded. You hadn’t really taken it seriously, until you said it out loud. At that moment in time, it became real. “Look, I’m okay. As long as I get home on time without any problems, I’ll be fine. You don’t need to worry.” Dean didn’t want to drop it so fast, but the pleading look in your eyes, made him nod gently.
“Errm… How much do we owe you?” Dean asked, you smiled.
“Nothing. It’s on the house. Think of it as a welcome gift.” he went to protest but you interrupted. “Look, it’s fine. I have no doubt you’ll return again soon.” he gave you a questioning look as you disappeared into the bar, leaving him only the memory of your (h/c) and your warm (e/c) eyes.
“Look Dean, I know it’s your game, but don’t make her another notch-on-the-bedpost, she seems like a nice genuine person.” Dean turned to his brother from the drivers seat in his 1967 Chevrolet Impala, situated outside of the bar.
“Did you not see her, Sam?” he added, turning his gaze out of the window.
“So, you think she’s hot. Doesn’t mean you’ve gotta-” But Dean cut him off.
“She’s not hot, Sam, she’s beautiful.” Sam sat silent, for a moment before his brother continued. “I’m gonna marry her Sammy.” he concluded, Sam had never heard so much passion in his voice, and with that they drove out of the car park and down the road to the bunker.

Crowley's BPD Traits And Why They Are Important;
We all know our beloved ineffable husbands are neurodivergent icons. Despite not being human they both act like neurodivergent humans would (and do).
Tumblr media
Today I thought we would take a look specifically at Crowley and his BPD traits and what they mean.
(Also before we start; a trigger warning for talks and mentions of suicide, depression, mood swings, drinking, and trauma).
First what is BPD? BPD stands for Borderline Personality Disorder.
"A mental disorder characterized by unstable moods, behavior, and relationships." -Mayo Clinic
BPD is a disorder caused by trauma. Trauma is of course different for every individual. So while some demons may seem perfectly content with the fall from Heaven, others may have been significantly traumatized. And I believe this is where Crowley falls (pun very intended).
So we covered how Crowley could have developed BPD, but let's talk about their traits.
The DSM-5 lists 9 Criteria for BPD, of which at least 5 are required for diagnosis. We will be covering each one and how (or how they don't) apply to Crowley.
1. Frantic efforts to avoid real or imagined abandonment:
As we know BPD is caused by trauma, but more specifically it can be trauma that deals with abandonment. Say God casting you down to Hell for simply asking questions?
This can lead to the person with BPD going through frantic efforts to avoid abandonment happening ever again.
We can see this most in Crowley when she argues with Aziraphale. Can you count how many times Crowley tries to run away with Aziraphale so that he doesn't leave him during an argument? It's three. They have done this three times (and that's just the on screen ones, who knows whats happened in 6,000 years!).
Tumblr media
2. A pattern of unstable and intense interpersonal relationships characterized by alternating between extremes of idealization and devaluation.
Now this one is harder to see in Crowley because this trait of BPD (and many others) comes out most in romantic partners. And Crowley has only ever had one apple in his eye, Aziraphale. But even just with their relationship with Aziraphale we can see this.
While Crowley never directs his anger at Aziraphale we can definitely see how much the angel affects him. Their arguments that can lead to them not talking for decades, Crowley literally exploding with lighting because of his anger.
Tumblr media
An example I find most interesting is Crowley's entire perception of Aziraphale changing when he sees Aziraphale let the people in the flood die. And this perception is only fixed in the Job minisode when Aziraphale does the right thing again. All it takes is one incident for Crowley to change her mind.
3. Identity disturbance: markedly and persistently unstable self-image or sense of self.
I think this is most obvious in the opening to season 2 where Crowley is questioning the meaning of life and more importantly his role as a demon.
Tumblr media
But this isn't the only demon related identity disturbance Crowley faces. A common identity disturbance for those with BPD is believing that they are evil. This is caused by trauma but is also not helped by the stigma Cluster B disorders face.
Crowley believes he must be evil because he is a demon. He lies because he is a demon. Just like someone with BPD may believe they are evil for their disorder or are manipulative because of it. But in reality that may not be the whole truth. You can still be a good person despite being a demon, despite having a disorder.
4. Impulsivity in at least 2 areas that are potentially self-damaging (e.g., spending, sex, substance abuse, reckless driving, binge eating).
Do... Do I need to explain this one?
Crowley is an alcoholic. He casually drinks but will also drink anytime a slight inconvenience pops up.
Tumblr media
Crowley is also known for going "too fast". He is almost always speeding in the Bentley.
5. Recurrent suicidal behaviour, gestures or threats, or self-mutilating behaviour.
This is one of the ones that is harder to apply to Crowley simply because she is a demon, not a human. It is much harder for him to kill himself. And while this trait must be recurrent I still think it's important to bring up the Holy Water incident.
Crowley tells Aziraphale the holy water is just for insurance, but Aziraphale knows Crowley better than that and was right to assume it could probably be for a suicide pill. (Even if it did come in handy as insurance later). But the fact Aziraphale assumes that I believe is telling.
6. Affective instability due to a marked reactivity of mood (e.g., intense episodic dysphoria, irritability or anxiety usually lasting a few hours and only rarely more than a few days).
We see a few different times where Crowley's mood shifts into extremes.
We already discussed the lighting incident. I think another big show of their anger is how he treats his plants in season 1. While yes it is them recreating their trauma with God (Metatron?) and being thrown out of Heaven, that anger comes from somewhere.
Tumblr media
Jim short for James, long for Gabriel also sparks this anger in Crowley to the point of threatening his life and telling him to jump out of a window.
Crowley's depression is seen on the biggest spotlight when talking about the fall. Their sentiments about not meaning to fall, that she only ever asked questions.
Tumblr media
7. Chronic feelings of emptiness.
Unfortunately I can't speak on this one purely because I do not live in Crowley's head. I do not recall it ever being something mentioned or showed. That doesn't mean it can't happen to her of course, but let's stick with the facts.
8. Inappropriate, intense anger or difficulty controlling anger (e.g., frequent displays of temper, constant anger, recurrent physical fights).
As you can see BPD deals with anger a lot. so I will once again bring up some points we've already made. With the lighting incident, and good old Jimmy-boy.
I also just wanted to mention we know Crowley appears a bit angry at most times as well as Muriel describes him as "the grumpy one". Just thought it was a fun, helpful detail.
Tumblr media
9. Transient, stress-related paranoid ideation or severe dissociative symptoms.
This one is also a bit hard because again I am not in Crowley's head but also she does in fact have plenty to worry about that is real.
But Crowley does still show paranoid ideation. His distrust of others, disorganized thoughts (talking about ducks and the end of the world at the same time), feeling threatened, thinking he's being spied on (the ducks have ears).
Lots of ducks.
Now some may think diagnosing/headcanoning a character with specific mental illnesses is silly, and maybe it is! But I still believe it's important. Why?
Well for starters; representation is always important. Seeing someone similar to you on screen you can relate to and find joy and comfort in. Or maybe they're just raising awareness. Or just showing that hey, these people exist.
But I also wanted to touch on the stigma of BPD and other Cluster B disorders.
I touched on it briefly in an earlier point but BPD is heavily stigmatized. Many people treat the disorder as evil and manipulative. That the people with it don't deserve love or kindness. Which is of course simply not true.
Most of the characters coded with BPD today are antagonists and/or villains. Think Jinx from Arcane or Spinel from Steven Universe. These characters are amazingly written and performed and I do love them dearly. And there is nothing wrong with them, but it is nice to even the playing field. To have a character with traits of BPD who is fundamentally good and does the right thing. They are a protagonist of their story and even a hero!
And that is why I think Crowley is good representation of BPD (even if it was not intended that way).
And here's hoping to season 3 so our demon (and angel) get a happy ending!
