Any TV recs for my mum?
my mum likes grounded shows. at least, emotionally grounded. she insists she likes shows about "love", but she doesn't care for purely romantic stuff. she loves a good balance of action and dialogue (too much of either is bad). she can do light sci-fi or fantasy, but as long as it's still grounded. she couldn't get into Tolkien, but read all of HP (fuck jkr) 5 years ago.
she prefers female protagonists (or at least female relatable characters) and characters who are emotionally mature.
shows she watched and liked:
Outlander (I couldn't get through the first ep tho, so don't use it as too much of a ref, I'll be watching along with her, after all)
Breaking Bad
Snowpiercer
Succession
The Sopranos
Harlots
The Downton Abbey
basically, I could just go through top-10s or sth, but it would be too hit or miss.
she didn't care for Sex and the City, Sex Education. musicals and comedies leave her cold.
maybe any good thrillers/detectives? not too moody or slow.
I'm considering showing her stuff like Severance, Russian Doll, Jessica Jones.
my tastes are more genre based, I'm more tolerant towards high concepts and get bored with procedurals. I don't really know enough high quality modern shows for normies, lmao.

I think it’s incredibly fucked how capitalism discourages learning for learning’s sake. People will have interests they’ve spent years researching then say it’s “useless knowledge” bc it didn’t go towards a college degree and isn’t part of their job. Learning is never useless! Your brain is growing and developing throughout your whole life! People would never have epiphanies or sudden lightening strikes of creativity if they weren’t learning new things! That goes double for topics like science, politics, and history, which inform your understanding of the world you live in!

i LOVE living in eastern europe btw <33 sometimes people will just say something incredibly, hilariously soviet for no reason. my phonology teacher just said "well, you know, it's like they say: lenin lived, lenin lives, lenin will always live". no context.
