louis vuitton prefall 2024
louis vuitton presents its 3rd collection under the creative direction of pharrell williams. after the mixed reviews following his pixelated debut show at pfw in june, this prefall collection brings a parisian nautical vibe to hong kong.
the late virgil abloh brought louis vuitton a contemporary prospective, closing the gap between urban & streetwear fashion and luxury. not only did this approach give a breath of fresh air to the brand's renowned traditional and monogrammed (and heavily replicated) bags, it also introduced a more diverse and accessible audience to high fashion - especially for those in the hip hop, rap and more urban scenes.
william's position as the successor of louis vuitton may have been confusing for people who aren’t familiar with his influence in the fashion industry. from co-founding billionaire boys club and collaborating with brands such as adidas & timberland, to his playful and distinctive personal style), he has clearly earned his spot. for me personally, he was an excellent choice for continuing the innovation at lv.
in this collection, we are introduced to menswear looks that are easily wearable and equally stylish. louis vuitton and givenchy imo are brands that have successfully targeted and influenced styling decisions for men who high fashion isn't exactly 'for'. prefall 24 has an array of looks, from distressed denim and leather suits to preppy 2-pieces accessorised with sunglasses, bling and crossbody bags. it is refreshing to see.
the tailoring is also unconventional from the standard tuxedo we see on the carpet. they are printed, cinched at the waist, or feature a drop shoulder.
this collection for me has a perfect blend of feminine and masculine elements. subtle yet noticeable. a cultivated attempt at sophistication and luxury, but still very cool and very edgy.
