i am home! and slightly confused. i am not sure what i am supposed to do with myself now that i’m here? unpack? go somewhere? eat something? nonetheless - i made it! feels so good to be home after a fantastic experience and adventure! i am thankful for having the chance to meet montevideo. hasta luego!!!!
i think i’ll probably write one more once i’m home and settled. to make it official. dinner last night was SO GOOD! if i had been earlier i would have probably gone many more times. la pupleria. now. i just gotta pack the final things. see what things need to stay behind. i was gonna shower. but i don’t feel like it. shocker. prob just gonna get dressed, finish packing, coffee and bounce to airport. i’m gonna take the transfer right straight from the one airport in BA to the other. Just easier and less stressful, and less money. Then i will be home tomorrow morning! Just like that...
i leave manana! i am pretty much all packed. definitely do not have space for everything. gonna see what i can maneuver in the morning once everything is in.
after i left the apt today, i went over to la tostaduria to see my friends and buy some of their coffee. this entire time, i thought it was called nomade. i was wrong. chilled there for a few hours then walked over to el popu to do the same thing, say hi. manu met up with me there to say hi quickly. she gave me a cute little uruguayan going away gift. so sweet. i came home to pack up as much as i could and i’m going to a farewell dinner with laura and fede this eve! they’re taking me to one of their fav parrilla’s so i can order the right way and enjoy carne! YUM.
woke up yesterday and headed to ciudad vieja to pick up some things. wondered around, then took a bus back towards my area. randomly went into salon and got nails done. then headed to mercado ferrando to see friends there a last time. stayed for a few hours then went to baker’s (bar around the corner) with andres and lucas. it rained. clothes were supposed to be drying on roof. oops. bed.
can’t believe it’s the 12th. don’t feel like i have enough time left. today was really special! probably my most touristy day, but i got to go with some of the friends i’ve made. manu picked me up around 9:45, then we went to get rob and shiraz to head to piriapolis, a family beach town, then punte del este. we decided to take what’s basically a ski lift to a look out point. was a drop scary and rickety, but we couldn’t skip it. from there we went to a parilla, it was sadly a drop mediocre, BUT. i did taste shiraz and rob’s chivito (the classic sandwich here).
onto punte del este. manu was a perfect tour guide! she wasn’t used to doing the drive so we got to take a few extra scenic routes. i now know the landscape of pretty much most of uruguay, the inland part at least. got to the beach, took pics with the fingers coming out of the sand. went to a cafe for something sweet and coffee. then headed back! i’m gonna miss my new friends! was going to go out tonight, but i’m just not in the mood. it’s already 10:45 and today was long. so taking it easy, it is.
fun moment. today at manu’s, other than manu, no one knew how old i am. when the girl from israel who lives in scotland, Shiraz, found out i was 37. she FREAKED OUT! she thought i was her age, 21. she couldn’t get over it for awhile. she said she felt the whole day had been a lie. HA! love it obvi. of course i was extremely appreciative!
