I think all of us can agree now we're a good three years removed from the event. Letting UAD in first was reckless.
I'm not saying their diplomatic corps is badly trained or equipped for hostile people or cultures, just look at Kalacharr, or Censis. We've seen them do good work before.
But they were unprepared for this. We all were. I'm not excusing Admiral Delaney's inaction, that cost lives and she was rightly punished for it. Nobody was excepting violent action on first contact, it's not part of our makeup. We are by protocol and doctrine, very hopeful for the mutual exchange. The 'we are not alone' moment that happens across the diaspora. It's so common we don't figure on the opposite.
I'm thankful that most of the mission was able to be evacuated but the fact remains twelve trained UAD personnel and two armed escorts died when we tried playing hopeful.
I'm not saying it's time we started getting hostile, I'm saying we need to be realistic.
Next time, people ought to keep their hands on their holsters while the other extends the olive branch.

Becoming is one of the hardest things Haenn ever had to do. The second hardest was getting his horns painted. It's an exhaustive, days long process done through ritual and precise periods of perfect silence. Staying that still is impossible for anyone. Least of all when the procedure is supposed to be done by your siblings.
Rhalyan towers over him in stature and skill. Haenn can only trace his brother's silent movements by the light of the candles that surrounded them both. Dawn was coming closer every second, the cracks of pinkish red were already blossoming under the slits of the doors that surrounded this isolated portion of the manor so close to the river's edge. They were not supposed to speak but there were no eyes on either of them. Rhalyan's hand flicks across Haenn's crown again, letting the flowing edge of the brush trace the thrice repeated pattern of the lightning bolt that he was named after. Haenn opened his mouth, sucked in air and paused. Rhalyan raised an eyebrow but his brush disregarded that mistake and kept up its work. Another layer, a delicate line of river split by a warrior's arrow. Whites on golds on blues.
"Was it like this when Damnyen did yours?" Haenn asked. Rhalyan's brush didn't cease but it did slow in thought. The river curved, wavered. Now the golds, a background of furious heavenly fire. Rhalyan did not respond for two hours when the paints finally began to dry and another layer was due.
"I could not stop talking, I was so anxious."
Rhalyan replied, chuckling to himself. His eyes traced the horns for imperfections, teasing out the edge of the decorations. Touch ups here and there. Haenn raised his eyes from where they'd sat silently on the mat below to almost match Rhalyan's own.
"Isn't that bad? To talk." Haenn said, guilty already in his mind.
Rhalyan nodded, it was.
"But who would ever know besides a brother with a silent disposition?" he added as he stood back. The brush fell. Their work was done.
It's so funny that Misa is famous. Imagine that you're a normal ass cop and you get put on a special task force to catch a mass murderer. And you meet with the expert detective in charge. And he tells you your top 2 suspects are a random teenager and like. Ariana grande

Created to combat the rising scourge of banditry across the Zephyr gates, the South Star Span Company saw an opportunity to profit from peacekeeping. As the Tolman gang continued to profit from the lax security across the gates to enrich themselves by cutting into Reaches Company Coalition profit margins, South Star Span recruited a series of out of work mercenaries, disgraced MSMC dropouts and exiled Albatross pilots to form the first Spanway Ranger battalion. These private security forces were given law enforcement powers essentially at gunpoint. The Reaches Company Coalition was forced to concede by pressure from ISPN lobby groups into handing over commercial policing powers for all extraterrestrial crimes to the South Star Span Company who could not technically imprison criminals but could temporarily imprison them on a prison ship for an indefinite period, as this did not violate the terms set out in Trade Agreement Number One, which they were a signatory to.
Spanway Rangers are notable for their repeated clashes with bandit gangs that prowl the Zephyr Gates and the lines between them. While nominally, they do not kill unless their circumstances demand it, their less than lethal tactics often slip out the window when presented with the opportunity for a clean kill. Though not officially endorsed, lax security is encouraged by Spanway Rangers on the ground, who intentionally let their quarry slip in order to justify lethal force. Notably, all rangers swear oaths to uphold the company tenets before being officially employed and are contracted indefinitely through this. South Star Span does not often let these rangers go, even those who have been accused of corruption or other offences are more often than not simply transferred to other gates in order to improve the image of the company. Their badging, a rail track crossing over a southern cross is most commonly found on the bottom of their breach-action shotguns and most commonly observed fast approaching the stomach of someone the ranger does not particularly like. Rangers are ostensibly dedicated to keeping the peace on the Grand Star Southbound and while some take this message with the sincerity it deserves (such as Joseph Leland and Maxwell Albright), most serve the stockholders before the citizenry.
