I posted a reel of this ribeye paella from our @steakclub7 visit to @casadani_us, the Spanish and Mediterranean restaurant newly opened by @michelinguide Chef Dany García, @danigarcia7, but there were so many other wonderful dishes I needed to share. The tuna porterhouse carpaccio is a must — thin sliced and drizzled with @castillodecanena EVOO. It's sublime. They have great cocktails along with a signature G&T menu, tapas, other specialty tuna dishes and 6 paellas. We tried the Txuleta (28 day dry aged bone-in ribeye) and the Marisco (prawns, mussels, salmorreta & saffron) and the Lubina a la Sale Negra which is a whole Canary Island Branzino, baked in black salt. Checking out sanmiwagodumplings , the new gyoza and Taiwanese cuisine stand at the @mott.street.eatery food hall. They make gyoza (pan fried) and dumpings (boiled) in 5 varieties- regular, spicy, chive, pork & shrimp. They also have braised pork belly, chicken wings & drumsticks, and other Taiwanese dishes. The gyoza is $8-$10 for 8 pieces and each is nicely filled with a nice crispy bottom. It's served with their chili oil which has a nice flavor but is on the mild side. @mott.street.eatery is the newest food hall in Chinatown. The Steak Club 7 went to visit @noirny, a spot that opened as a club back in 2019 and has since upped their culinary game with the addition of Chef John DeWine as F&B Director. Noir still has a club vibe, especially with the bar area, cocktail menu and DJ, and we were very impressed with the dishes we tried. We started with a great day boat scallop dish with caviar beurre blanc and sea beans, and rolled into an avocado tartare (not shown), the A5 Kobe beef katsu sando and a tasting of their Miyazaki A5 vs. Shichiri A5 HIDA, with the Miyazaki taking the honors! We also had an unexpected standout with the Kurobuto pork chop with gochuchan. We rounded off the evening with the bacon wrapped short rib skewers, and blistered shishito peppers, and of course a steak, cocktails and dessert. @chefwilllustberg and the @crotonnyc team have done it again, opening up the latest smashburger specialty restaurant, @handcraftburgers by Bryant Park on 40th and 6th. Handcraft Burgers & Brew specializes in fresh, never frozen, @certifiedangusbeef gourmet smash burgers, tater tots, fries and craft beer. They also have a spicy chicken sandwich and rippers (crispy fried weiners) on the menu. I love burgers and what makes smashburgers so delicious is the simplicity in how they are made. The beef patty is smashed on a super hot griddle. This gives it more surface area and allows the amino acids and sugars within to react to the griddle and heat, giving the patty that flavorful, seared crusy caused by the Maillard reaction we hear so much about on cooking shows. I got my flu shot and came down with a cold this week so I missed National fried Chicken Sandwich Day but if I could get in a Delorean, I would go back and get this Southern Fried Chicken Sandwich with spicy cucumber, black garlic aioli on a sesame. In from Empire Provisions. Chef @bcartenuto had create a delicious menu of wings (5 different sauces), salads, burgers and sandwiches. This chicken sandwich delivered with the crunch, but what makes Chef Brian's entire menus stand out is that he takes classic wings and sandwiches that we all know and elevates them with his spin and creativity. Other notable mentions are his S.I.S. (Staten Island Sandwich, eggplant cutlet, burrata, herb pesto, Calabrian chilies and tomato jam) and his Mac Baby Baby Back Rib sandwich that is a play on the you know what, with an Asian twist.
