thinking about the way rainer michelle subverts the disabled villain trope

like. two of the facts we learn about her early on are that 1: she's disabled and 2: she's a "villain"

but a big part of rainer's role in the story is to illustrate how that world's definitions of "villain" and "hero" are completely arbitrary and wrong. rainer is there to make the audience question why someone like her, who is genuinely kind and helpful with no ulterior motives, is labelled a "villain", all the while a character like the commodore, who is just an absolutely terrible person, is labelled a "hero"

the way she was typecast into the role of "villain" over something inherent to herself that she didn't exactly choose (literally the type of magic that manifested itself in her from a very young age, but also metaphorically her disability)

and how she couldn't do much to reject that label short of leaving the system entirely, so she accepted the label and continued to proudly embrace the things about herself that got her labelled "villainous" in the first place, while outright telling people -including one of our protagonists who also got labelled a "villain" over things he didn't choose- that being labelled a "villain" has no bearing on how good of a person you actually are

idk how much of that disabled villain/villainization of disabled people metaphor was intentional but it is very much There

Graduation is literally so much fun and I love it, yeah its got its flaws but what doesn’t. Like bro I’ve listened to it twice and it’s just such a silly goofy time and I adore it

It’s such a whimsical world and the names of some of the NPC are so funny like fucking Higglemiss Wigginstaff (no clue if I spelled that right 😂)

The Commodore was such a piece of shit Travis did such a good job playing him I was literally cheering when Argo finally killed that bastard

The fucking dynamic between Prince Grey and the Thundermen???? Holy shit that was some of the funniest shit. When I tell you I absolutely LIVE for that exact dynamic I am not joking

Also like Chaos and Order were just fascinating to me??? Like dude- Chaos was so interesting and their dynamic intrigued me greatly. Also just the satisfaction of Order literally being dragged into hell!!!! And once again shout out to Grey for being the best character I fucking loved that man 😂

Also like Argo is such a fascinating character to me, Clint always manages to have the most interesting characters.

For those of you who do not know, Hurricane Fiona has been devastating to Puerto Rico. People are left without homes, running water, or electricity. It's a desperate situation out there right now. You can find more detailed accounts Here (NPR), Here (NY Times), and Here (NBC).

My friend in Puerto Rico- who told me how bad things are down there and is the reason I am making this post- stressed the importance that, when donating, not to give charity to the government. The people in need will never see that money. With that in mind, here are some links to nonprofit organizations to help. A little goes a long way. My personal first choice is The Maria Fund - They work with grassroots organizations in Puerto Rico to collect donations and redistribute the funds to the exact organizations that need them. You can see the list of places/groups they help on this page of their website.

If you would rather have direct control over where your money goes, other reputable options include Casa Pueblo, Taller Sauld, and Techos Pa' Mi Gente. Anything helps, and if you cannot donate money, boosting so that those who have funds see this is also helpful. Thank you

Anyways I keep this blog for nastolgia and nothing else these days. It's dead. but for the record I'm still mad about how the fanbase treated Travis during TAZ Grad. Watching my dash come back to life with ethersea has both made me happy that the fandom isnt dead but also leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.

I am not excited for the next arc but I am happy that things in the TAZ fandom might go back to normal with Griffin at the helm and I literally hate yall for that.

I hate that switching back to Griffin gives me a sense of relief. I hate that I turned on TTAZZ today with a sense of dread. I hate that this fandom which boasts of wholesomeness and love and simplicity became so toxic that I am happy that the arc I was excited to see from beginning to end is "finally over so things can go back to normal". I hate it.

The fact that so many people hate Travis to the point that any nuanced and legitimate criticism inevitably devolved into vitriol and utter poison was exhausting. And so many of it was White Allies TM who were quickly debunked by actual POC who didn't hold the same concerns. Everyone got so self righteous that every space to talk about it got so toxic and un nuanced and no one acted in good faith like ever. But over and over again I think to myself, people won't be like this to Griffin, once he's DM again, everything will go back to normal.

So congrats. You made it not fun anymore. Hope calling Travis self centered and ignorant and poisonous got you enough brownie points on Twitter to enjoy the next arc criticism free.
