Speaking into the abyss?
Hey friends! I may be speaking to no one in particular here, but I hear that fandom has left twitter since the Musk’ening. Anyway, I’m dipping some toes back into the water with this post and through working on some character development and story outlining for a new fic! Hopeful about wherever it’s going.
Not because I feel like I have to explain, but just because it helps to talk about it, I wanted to say that my dog was diagnosed with terminal cancer almost a year ago. He had a mostly wonderful year, eating whatever he wanted, going on many more walks than usual, swimming, seeing all the people he loved, and then eventually it was time for him to go, and so he did.
I’ve been thinking a lot about love and life and the loss of both, and it’s all sitting tangled up and heavy inside me. I’m hoping maybe I can pull it out one thread at a time through writing, but I’m still feeling tentative about it.
So we will see!
Thanks to anyone who’s listening. Hopefully we’ll all see more of each other soon.

A Star Without Guidance - Master Post
This story arc is a MDZS Jedi AU that primarily focuses on the Yunmeng trio (all are POV-characters) and spans a timeline of around ten years with lot of character development and galactic political intrigue.
There are four books planned:
A Single Point of Light (posting now on AO3!)
A Star Without Guidance
Blackbody Radiation
A Steady Heart
So far, I have written the entire first book and am about 25k into A Star Without Guidance.
Because I know this story arc is a big commitment, I wanted to put together some spoilers for folks in case they have hard aversions to any pairings or outcomes.

We’ll start with some light spoilers.
Character Sympathies
Pro Jiang Cheng
Pro Jin Guangyao
It does portray YZY and JFM a little harshly (I’d say canon), but I think it also will portray them with sympathy both through the different perspectives of their children and over time.
Pairings
Wangxian will be a pairing throughout, but they’ll spend long times apart (helloooo canon)
Jiang Yanli and Jin Zixuan will get together in Book 3, and yes, they will have Jin Ling. There may also be some Mianmian spice in here - it’s a long way away and I haven’t written it yet.
Mingcheng is the endgame pairing, although their relationship will be the most consistent throughout. They won’t get together until Book 4 because there is no underage and no weird power dynamic between them.
Lan Xichen / Jin Guangyao
Not Everyone Dies, Some People Live
There are similarities between this plot and the canon plot
JFM and YZY will die
Lan Qiren will die
Nie Mingjue does not die
Song Lan and Xiao Xingchen do not die
Wen Ning does not die (but he is bad ass)

Whew. The thing that hit me the hardest: the elders you never got to meet.
Our government and system got us thinking that there just aren't that many queers, when really homophobia and an ignored pandemic eliminated them.
My girlfriend and I talk a lot about our different generations of queerness, because she was doing queer activism in the 1990s and I wasn’t.
And she’s supportive of my writing about queerness but also kind of bitter about how quickly her entire generation’s history has disappeared into a bland “AIDS was bad, gay marriage solved homophobia” narrative, and now we’re having to play catch-up to educate young LGBTQ+ people about queer history and queer theory. It gets pretty raw sometimes.
I mean, a large part of the reason TERFs have been good at educating the young and queer people haven’t is, in the 80s and 90s the leading lights of TERFdom got tenured university positions, and the leading lights of queerdom died of AIDS.
“Excuse us,” she said bitterly the other day, not at me but to me, “for not laying the groundwork for children we never thought we’d have in a future none of us thought we’d be alive for.”
