There was a new LGBT+ acronym, and it was twig etc. (it had to be in lowercase for some reason). It stood for trans, Welsh, intersex, and gay. Everyone else was etc. It was very controversial.

Look, I agree that trying to sell folks on original fiction by citing fanfic tropes is asinine, but at least "oh, it's got enemies to lovers!" tells you something substantive about the plot and characters. I once had somebody try to convince me to read a work of original fiction by telling me that it has a romance with a height gap.
#no fr#i do think fanfic and ogfic can intersect a lot#a lot of fanfic is in the au genre and uses tons of ocs— i'd consider that partially original fiction#but fanfiction tropes are included on ao3 for the ease of filtering. not for actual summaries#ive never seen an AO3 fic /describe/ itself as an enemies to lovers romance.#but ive seen plenty TAGGED as such for the sake of finding and filtering#with og fic and published books... theres no need for filtering#you dont have to go filter out what you dont want or add some tags for what you do. thats the purpose of a blurb#ao3 tags are PURELY for the ease of internet users#and then the shit like “Age Gap/Height Gap/Smutty/Fantasy Romance/Highschool Romance” and all the similar ones... TELL YOU NOTHING#those were once again made for internet users to find and filter what they dont or do want. theyre not intended to describe!!#chatted w my english teacher (published romance author/ex fanfic author) about this and apparently its something publishers want too#as it gets reads on a blurb#AAAGHH WHY!??
