“It is so.” She frowns and wipes her hands on her jeans before placing them on her hips. “Stop trying to use your cool guy thing on me. I know people fell for it back at the hunter academy, but not this time. I’m smarter now.”

“I’m not even trying to be cool.” He couldn’t help but laugh about it. “And just a sidenote, I wasn’t at the hunter academy before coming here. But you were apparently.”

Yeah? That must have sucked. **she shrugs** At least you’re back now, though.
Believe me it did big-time. [He nodded.] Yeah, I’m glad to be back.

My dad demanded picking me up. We were on the road for some time. That’s where I was.

alechasnohorns:
Sky Cabin had not really been where Alec had planned on ending up. Okay he hadn’t really planned much of anything beyond ‘try to survive the summer’, and he really should have braced himself for anything at this point, but he hadn’t. Heights, while not one of his greatest fears, had never been something he had much cared for. He wasn’t sure if it was the equine part of him, or just the part of him that didn’t care for the idea of falling to his death, but either way it was rather unpleasant. So far no one seemed to take any notice of his discomfort, and he wasn’t sure if he wasn’t complaining enough about the situation, or if he simply complained too much on a daily basis that any new grievances weren’t very note worthy.
Despite his aversion to the physical cabin itself, Alec found himself complaining far less about his bunkmates this year than he had the last. Somehow finding himself in one of the least occupied cabins it had proven to be more peaceful than HALL this time around. Stuck between Aaron, who was alright enough guy, Lyle, his never-quite-admit-it-fuck-you-if-you-suggest-it-best-friend, and Ben, his roommate, all of his complaints were more of their own sake than out of any real spite.
So there was an uncharacteristic lack of dragging to his steps as he made his way back to his cabin as the sun finally disappeared behind the tree line. Hands in the pockets of his hoodie he tried not to make eye contact with the other campers he passed along the path, taking to alternating between glaring and giving small nods of acknowledgment as needed to those he failed to not look at. Half on the balls of his feet to move faster he thought he might have run right into Ben had he not heard the other boy’s exclamation.
“Whoa,” Alec breathed out, the traces of a smile on his face despite his concern. “Someone’s pissed about missing the sing-along,” he teased. Stopping at the base of the steps he looked down at his forlorn friend. “I bet if you hurry you could make it for the final number.”
Ben froze in place at the sound of his friends voice. Call it irony of fate that Alec had to be the one who found him in such a miserable state. Again. Yet he couldn't help but shake his head at the teasing with a small smile showing up on his face once the moment of surprise was over. Finally lifting his head the hunter looked up at the other boy. "What the hell did I miss that left you in such a good mood?"
It was one of the rare things to see Alec in a better mood than usual. Normally he would be all grumpy and annoyed by everyone and everything but today he seemed much relaxed even though he knew he was probably wondering what was up with him. Ben wasn't sure if he would tell him or spill it when he'd return. Either was stupid at this very moment.
Pushing himself up on his feet Ben put on a smile only to give his friend not a reason to worry about him. "Don't tell me you liked the sing-along?"

Broken Boy Soldier || Self Para
Standing at the roadside Ben's duffel bag felt much heavier on his shoulder than it actually was. Mostly because everything was screaming inside of him not to go with his father but unfortunately the younger hunter had no say in it. Ben tightened his grip on his bag once the all too familiar metallic blue '69 Chevy Camaro came into sight. His father was late as always what made Ben rolling his eyes. The car stopped right in front of Ben while the window of the passenger seat rolled down. "Get in." Was everything Nathaniel Woden said to his son. No 'hello', no 'how have you been'. Ben remained silent even though he tensed up immediately. Opening the door the younger hunter slip on the passenger seat and just as he had closed the door his father stepped on the gas.
The Pennsylvanian mountains faded far too soon in the side mirror, leaving Ben all defenseless with his beloved father. But Nathaniel didn't say anything for the whole ride what left the younger Woden wondering. Ben just noticed the car had stopped when he woke up by his father slamming the door shut. Sitting up in his seat he gazed around, seeing they had stopped at a motel they apparently going to stay at. Another glance on the clock told him some hours had already passed. It was the first time he allowed a deep sigh leaving his lips. "One week. One stupid week." He tried to motivate himself, running a hand over his face before reaching for the door handle to open the car door. Ben stopped in his movement as his eyes landed not only on his father walking back to the car but also his brother Chris walking alongside him. So much for them staying at this motel. Apparently they were just picking up his brother to continue to a destination Ben still didn't know about.
Resting back against the back rest of his seat his brother darted an angry glance at Ben before getting in on the backseat. Of course he wouldn't be glad about seeing him. They never had been close anyway. Even his father still remained silent as he got back on the driver seat and started the engine once again, driving off to their real destination. But this time wasn't the only one where Ben expected the wrong things. Also he was mistaken about Nathaniel wanting to talk to him about BATS and for him only to stay with them for only a week. Instead they were doing one hunting job after the other and it took full two weeks before his father sent Chris away for a job alone, leaving him alone with his oldest for the first time in a while.
Ben glanced out of his motel room window as he watched his father returning from dropping off his brother. Nathaniel took the straight way back to his own room, of course he still wouldn't talking to his son what left Ben only one option to get to know when he could finally return to BATS. He had to talk to him.
Taking a deep breath the younger hunter left his room with mixed feelings and tensed muscles. The way over to his father's room felt like miles and he rather would've turned around, walking right back to his room but there was a reason why he wanted to return as soon as possible. There was someone he had left without any explanation and he really needed to talk to his friend about it, even if he wasn't sure the other would still want to talk to him. He laid awake several nights thinking about him and the right words to explain himself. But there wasn't time to think about it now. First he had to get his father to send him back what probably wouldn't be the easiest since Ben didn't know what Nathaniel's plan was.
Finally the boy raised his hand, knocking hard enough to make it look like he wasn't the slightest nervous. Soon after his father opened the door and looked at his son. "I need to talk to you." Ben said with a steady voice to his own surprise. "That was about time," was his father's reply to it as he gestured him to enter the room. Ben followed and stepped inside, turning around as the door snapped shut. "So, what information did you gather during your staying?" The younger hunter was surprised by the question since he expected his father didn't want anything to hear about it. But apparently he was wrong, again. "That's not what I wanted to talk about." He said carefully. Nathaniel folded his arms at his son's words. "But that's what I want to talk about. Now spit it out."
The room was filled with silence. None of the Woden's said anything and Ben could see how his father got more and more impatient by the minute. "There isn't anything to report because I didn't look for anything reportable." The boy's voice remained steady as he said the words out loud. Of course there were some things he could tell him about some students abilities but Ben had found his place there and nothing in the world could get him to spill any of them. "What did you just say?"
Ben swallowed hard at the dangerous, low voice of his father but he stood his ground. "You heard me. But you might be interested that I made friends there." He knew he was playing with fire but the first time in his life he felt ready to face his father. A humorless laugh echoed through the room as Nathaniel stepped closer to his son. "Friends? They are no friends. If you have forgotten Woden's don't have friends they only have family." Ben narrowed his eyes at the older Woden. "They're more friends than you were family to me." A hard punch hit Ben right in the face, letting him stumble backwards as soon as the words had left his lips. "I've noticed you became weak but I didn't know how much this place had brainwashed you, Benjamin."
The boy glared at his father as he wiped with the back of his hand over his bloody mouth. His lip was busted open. "The Academy is not the slightest brainwashing than you." As soon as he had spoken the words his back hit the nearest wall hard with his father's arm pressing against his throat, letting Ben yelp. "I think you've forgotten your place, son." Nathaniel's voice was filled with anger as he held his son in place despite his struggling. "You're a fucking hunter. My son! You don't make friends with monsters. You spy on them and you kill them. Nothing more, did you hear me?" Ben held his father's gaze as he said nothing. "Answer me you little piece of shit!" The boy knew how much the man hated it when people didn't answer him and he enjoyed it to see his father like that. How his image of a perfect son slowly crumbled. The image of a perfect soldier fading. "Fuck you!" Ben pressed out as his father's arm pressed more against his throat. Nathaniel grumbled, pulling his son harshly forward only to let him collide with his knee. The boy groaned as he fell to the ground, holding his stomach. But his father didn't let him catch his breath more kicks followed what let Ben curl up as best as he could to keep the man's feet from hitting his face.
Just as the boy thought it was over he was pulled roughly on his feet only to get another punch to the face. That's when Ben snapped. Anger boiling up in him and he shove his father against the next wall, punching him several times before he found himself on the floor again. "Do you actually think you can keep up with me? I trained you myself. I know all your moves." His father's voice sounded somewhat amused. "You can go to hell." Ben pressed out between clenched teeth as he rolled over and got back on his feet. Nathaniel just kept watching his son in amusement. "C'mon. Hit me." He challenged his son but Ben just spit at his feet. "I'm done with your games, dad. Find some other stupid idiot who would like to fight with you but not me. I'm done with it. I'm done with you." The younger Woden turned around, dragging himself to the door. Despite his pain Ben kept a straight face. "If you walk out of this door you don't ever come back, do you hear me? You'll be dead for me." Nathaniel grumbled with clenched fists. "Fine by me," Ben mumbled, pulling the door open and left the motel room only to shut the door behind him.
First he had expected his father would storm after him but he didn't. Now all he had to do was to pack his things and find his way back to BATS. It was the right thing and long overdue. Ben knew it would be a long trip back but he took it with a pleased smile on his face.
