Continuity Error: Twelve Years Later...
So... Doctor Who was a big part of my life up until my 14th birthday, when some rather unsavoury things happened with unsavoury people and I ended up avoiding it to stop myself from spiralling.
A few years later, I decided to give my first two Doctors another watch. And this time, watch it with the critical mind of a university student who is very near to completing her degree.
And while I watched the shows, one thing popped up (on a mock video on youtube of all places). I happened to be watching ‘Bitch Fight at Canary Wharf’ by Joe Vevers on Youtube, as I thought his editing was marvellous, and the video never fails to make me laugh. But I noticed a shot seemed out of place...
If anyone else has noticed this and pointed it out already- I apologise, but I’ve noticed now and I’m rather excited that I have.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These screengrabs are from the Doctor Who episode ‘Doomsday’- from 2006′s series two of the Doctor Who revival.
Now, while watching Joe Vever’s video, I thought that he had edited in a shot of the Cybermen falling from another scene, as I couldn’t remember whether they showed the Cybermen falling- as the setting wasn’t right. The Dalek was not to the side of the Cybermen in this scene. There was nothing on the floor.
But, being the professional (wannabe) filmmaker I am, who does her research, I opened my Netflix. I saw that this was straight and direct from the show itself. But I was very confused. How could a floor go from beige-y yellow, to black and debris covered within the space of one shot?
So I hunted some more, and watched the scene where the Cybermen and Daleks fight in the Void ship room (as it was the scene I remembered for having chaos enough to cause debris.)
And sure enough, I found evidence that I had been right. That the shot had been taken from a different scene.
Tumblr media
Coloured slightly differently and flipped so that they could pass it off as being different. But there it was.
Now, I know- as a filmmaking student- that sometimes time and budget get in the way and you get to the final edit, realising that you don’t have that perfect shot you wanted, or maybe none at all. So you make do with what you have. And this isn’t me slagging off the show. I’m just interested in the inner workings of television and I find it fascinating that the contrast in colour and sides made me miss it for twelve years.

Attention fandom
Because this is clearly still a problem
DOMKAT IS NOT REAL
Ship them, love them, write or draw them all you want. But do NOT start tagging them in stuff, or accusing them of hiding it, or any of this other bullshit I’m seeing.
They don’t like it! That should be enough of a reason for you to stop!!! They are trying their best to portray accurate lgbt romance on screen and trying to be polite when they say they don’t like the accusations, so how on earth can you respect and like them when you’re doing this to them???
Clearly this is not everyone, not even everyone who ships DomKat. It’s the ones who are still putting it out there and trying to get their attention on it, who are still hating on Ray, who are still trying to pressure these wonderful ladies into admitting their “hidden sexualities and feelings.”
It needs to stop. Out of respect for the show, respect for WayHaught, respect for Ray, respect for Kat and Dom, IT NEEDS TO STOP. There is no argument. There is no “But I-“ or “What if-“
Stop. Just stop. Leave them out of it. If you like them, you should be able to respect it when they ask you to stop. They are clearly uncomfortable about the questioning and it makes them feel awkward about how close of friends they are.
It’s not okay, and it’s sickening to see that some of our fandom is turning to this. It’s only been getting worse recently, not better. You do not have some divine right to dictate their personal lives, who they do or don’t love, and what their sexualities are or are not. You don’t get to say that. They do. Only they are allowed to say and feel these things. Your opinions do not dictate them.
Sorry for the rant guys but it needs to end

This is what happens when you love John Steinbeck's classic and you want to create something with your favourite characters and see how one would react if the other acted like a child in a woman's body. Waverly as George and Nicole as Lennie. Sorry in advance if it hurts your heart...

Wynonna Earp- Thoughts on the Upcoming Episode (210)
So, as I’ve traversed the web, I’ve seen a lot of different theories. That Nicole is dreaming (from the SDCC sizzle trailer), that Nicole is going to die and be ressurrected, but based on the lines that we are 98% sure are going to be in 210, I propose the theory that Nicole’s POV dreamscape clip from the sizzle trailer is what happens while she is in hospital.
So, we know that there is a lot of sad shit coming up for us, so let me break my thought process down…
Nicole- as we can see in the trailer- is attacked by Mercedes. Waverly- from the sizzle trailer- comes to her rescue but it may potentially be too late, as we see from Syfy’s synopsis that Waverly must choose between our lovable redhead and Wynonna.
Based on some of the lines, we know that whoever says the lines is talking about someone being asleep (possibly comatose). We assume that this is a Waverly line although we don’t know. But we know that ‘she’s not breathing’ and ‘the doctor says if she wakes up again I should say my goodbyes’ are in there.
So, for the first one, if we assume that Waverly says both of these lines (and that she is talking about our favourite deputy)- we’ll start with ‘she’s not breathing’. It could mean anything. But most likely, it is said in the hospital, with Waverly asking anyone listening for help. But it also helps us to visualise what could happen. Nicole- hooked up to life support. Possibly in a coma. With equipment to help her breathe.
Now, researching oxygen deprivation- death apparently becomes imminent at the five minute mark. Now, we have to assume that Nicole’s been like this for a few minutes. Since the ending of 209 had us seeing Nicole’s house for the first time, we can’t judge how long it takes to get to a hospital. But I’m certain it wouldn’t have started before the ride to the hospital, unless there were ambulances -but judging by the phrasing of Waverly’s line- it is not very likely that there were any.
So, according to the brief research I did, the patient becomes comatose at the ten minute stage, if the brain hasn’t already given up. Coma and brain damage are inevitable. So we can assume that it could be a reason for why Nicole isn’t waking up, which leads to the next line.
‘The doctor told me that if she wakes up again I should say my goodbyes.’ Well, doesn’t that rip your heart out, blend it in Goononna’s rat smoothie and then pour it down the devil’s toilet? Again- if we take this to be Waverly talking about Nicole, it packs a sucker punch, but also confirms the coma theory.
Waverly is being told to say her goodbyes because by this point, if Nicole wasn’t breathing- her brain will have damage to it- which helps in the all round circle of confirmation that Nicole hadn’t been breathing for a few minutes.
Since we have this theory down for now, I wanted to draw attention to the sizzle trailer released at SDCC. There were a couple of clips which saw- in Nicole’s POV- Waverly as Nicole watches her from the other side of the bullpen. Waverly is in her Shorty’s top- something we’ve not seen her wear since 109. Exactly a season ago.
There was much speculation that this was Nicole having a dream- probably (in the minds of Wayhaught shippers like myself) while sleeping comfortably as Waverly’s bonus blanket. But then, I began to piece it all together…
But Jasmine, you say, how do we know that Nicole is in a coma for that? Because coma patients don’t respond to anything on the outside world.
True. They don’t. But we are told from some experiences of coma patients that they have experienced dream like states, into which ‘something of the outside world penetrated’. (Cue Wynonna: “This is not the penetration I’m used to”)
So- from a world where demons and monsters are rife in a town named Purgatory, it wouldn’t be a far stretch to imagine Nicole dreaming of Waverly, because she can maybe hear her voice? Hear Wynonna? Maybe hear her boss and dream of being in the bullpen.
And everyone’s going crazy about the ring on Nicole’s finger, but if she is in a coma, and dreaming very vividly of Waverly, it- again- wouldn’t be a far stretch to assume she fantasises about spending the rest of her life with Waverly- because she loves her.
As for Nicole dying, it would be interesting to see how it’s played out. As much as the Bury your Gays trope has been upsetting for fans of shows it’s happened to, I feel like some shows deserve some leniency towards it- as long as they’re going to angle the story right.  But I have to say, I feel like our wonderful Ms Andras would create a twist to bring back our heart eyed cop, even if she were to die. (Besides, Katherine is in all episodes of this season. She can’t die completely next episode, without coming back in some form.)
Anyway, it’s probably not accurate to what actually happens in the show when Friday finally gets here, but I thought I’d put my two cents in about what I think may or may not happen in the coming episode.

Wynonna Earp: Season 2, Episode 3- Scene #1
So, I wanted to start with a good old classic television show that I have loved for a while now. The writing, comedy, acting and the backstage elements are (as Nicole puts it) top shelf! This was written just after the third episode’s broadcast so I realise that some of my interpretations were wrong but this is what I thought at the time.
So, we begin our quest on this epic episode with a scene where Waverly is chearleading in a bit of a private show for Nicole. First of all, props to Dominique for doing the routine for like 7 hours straight! You go girl! But, I digress, so let’s delve straight in with the interpretations.
So, Waverly has done her routine stunningly, and has seemed to have gotten Nicole all hot under the collar. She seems to be a bit flustered when she talks to Waverly, but manages to compose herself. Katherine does an amazing job at mixing the right amount of heart eyes, amazed facial expressions and an expression that emotes the right amount of potential jealousy that Nicole has. We see that Dominique has the natural flair for being sexy when she wants to be and that really comes into play as Waverly here, but we see her general nerdy girl awkwardness come back, as she voices her insecurities. Dominique plays it wonderfully, hitting the right mark between Waverly wondering whether it was good enough for Nicole, and wondering whether she took it too far or not. She asks in a subtle way, by saying ‘I wasn’t sure if it was your thing’ and we see her putting her pom poms down, as if to say ‘because if you didn’t my cheerleading ends with me putting these down here’. I don’t know whether it was something that was in the script, or whether it was the direction or Dominique’s idea itself, but it really brings to life how much Waverly really wants to make Nicole happy. By the way Nicole gestures and becomes even more flustered when she tells Waverly that ‘it’s everybody’s thing,’ we can see the subtle reassurance that Katherine provides in her performance.
If you listen to the way Nicole pauses as she says ‘the cross eyed hooligans at the homecoming game are… gonna love it,’ it has the potential to show a little more jealousy as Nicole’s eyes do not quite meet Waverly’s as they stare off for a moment- as if realising that this is something that everyone will see- and the boys are going to ogle her girlfriend. It’s almost a begrudging thing for her to say because she wants to encourage her girlfriend but you can see the inner torment because she doesn’t want all of the men to be ogling her while she dances. The way she nods afterwards is slightly like she is trying to convince herself that what she is saying is the right thing to say to Waverly. Katherine manages to show this in 12 short words- which is a feat. We see all of this thought happening- and before we know it, the emotion has changed. It is really well placed and put together by Katherine, with amazing writing by Emily Andras to allow her to convey all this.
When Waverly makes a comment about Nicole having to go on patrol and we see Dominique’s cute pout (how could you not do anything for that- seriously?), we realise just how much Nicole values her job and her distance from Waverly too. She may be in a relationship- but it doesn’t mean that she has to be conjoined at the hip to her girlfriend 24/7. She’s allowed a little time for herself to work or to do what she wants to. And she replies to Waverly that Nedley has told her that it is ‘all hands on deck’ and we see just how much Nicole wants to be a part of that small crew of people helping the streets of Purgatory.
When Wynonna bursts in to Waverly cheerleading again for Nicole, we see Nicole properly mortified, as she has most likely discovered- as Wynonna has- that Waverly is not wearing underwear. In an excellent physical display akin to a deer in the headlights (this time a police officer in the morning light from the door opening,) we see Nicole take a few steps back and to the side. This is before she even sees Wynonna properly. She has seen the door opening but not who is behind it as she is rather preoccupied with Waverly’s clothing- or lack thereof- which shows that Nicole is still slightly flustered at the thought of Waverly in a sexual manner. They may have had their first time, but Nicole and Waverly are obviously still quite new to one another, so Waverly doing this is something that Nicole was not expecting in the least.
Katherine’s facial expressions, Melanie’s comic timing and Dominique’s excellent comedy aspect of trying to cover herself up is hilarious, as we see the normally confident- but now startled police officer, the embarrassed girlfriend, and the very awkward and embarrassed sister. Especially with the way Melanie shows the confusion, mixed with embarrassment and a slight bit of shock in Wynonna seeing her little sister so exposed. Her high pitched shriek followed by the sharp mumble makes the entire line so much better, and funnier.
Melanie manages to make the scene more awkward as Wynonna (which is always a welcome hilarity) as she bumbles along a line about resuming their ‘pantiless roleplay’ as she is just ‘passing through.’ Waverly is (to be expected) awkward as all hell, standing like a scolded child. She says a very awkward and prolonged ‘hiiiiiiii’ to Wynonna, and fidgets with her hands a lot. Dominique really excels in her awkward-nerdy-come-sexy-brainbox however much she can’t really seem to form words out of embarrassment. We see Katherine look between the two other women in the room- perfectly presenting how uncomfortable Nicole is. We catch her sneaking a potential glance at the door, showing how much she wants to leave the awkward situation- and I feel like it is another nuance that Katherine has so generously put into her performance. As a police officer, Nicole may have the desire to leave and run, but she stays because something needs resolving. And up until the point that Wynonna reassures her that they can continue, does she relax and realise there is nothing for her to resolve, which prompts her to leave.
Before she does leave, however, she asks Waverly about whether she will come to visit her at the police station and we see the awkward dork that Waverly is coming into play, as she tells Nicole that ‘hanging from afar while my lady works? That’s my jam,’ and honestly- God bless Dominique for the cute little gun finger gestures, coupled with the clicking of her teeth to accompany it- just to add more of a dorky twist on the words. Nicole confirms this and takes one last look at Wynonna- who can’t meet her eye. It’s a wonderful short little exchange before she grabs the door and opens it. Nicole leaves, after grabbing the coat, but the coat placement says a lot about the awkwardness too. She could have slung the coat over her arm or held it higher, but she holds it near her crotch- and makes eye contact with Waverly, and walks backwards as she leaves- almost akin to a half naked person who has just been caught by someone who is not their significant other and has to make a hasty retreat.
When she has gone, we realise just how awkward it was with Nicole there, and just how much more awkward it is now that she has left the house- as Wynonna is busy polishing Peacemaker, and makes a remark about making a ‘knickers on the doorknob policy, since you’re not using yours’ and we see how distracted she is- almost as if the words are empty because she is not thinking about what she is saying but rather about what she is doing- cleaning Peacemaker. Melanie balances it well- being empty of emotion in one sense but having a completely different emotion in another.
We hear a little bit about what Wynonna is worried about when Waverly asks her, but we do not linger on it for long. Melanie and Dominique show how much they know one another (both as characters- Wynonna and Waverly- and as actresses) as they rely on each other to lean on when they need to move on from one emotion to the next. It is well formulated, and thoughtful. We next register just how much Wynonna has missed, as she comments on Waverly being head cheerleader and Prom Queen and how she never got any of that sort of thing because she was ‘institutionalised at 14.’ The way Melanie delivers the line nonchalantly makes it even more sad because she has managed to keep underlying tones of sadness, jealousy and annoyance- at the fact that she didn’t have a good teenage life and her little sister got a fabulous one. Waverly tries to make Wynonna feel better and it’s another brilliant moment from Dominique- with her ascertaining the best possible point to make the small remark of ‘are you going to be this much fun all day?’ which hints at how much sarcasm Waverly has. Wynonna keeps up, joking and mocking her about leaving her to the mercy of demons, which changes the subject to Dolls.
We see how much the subject of Dolls hurts the two women. It’s clear that they both miss him. Potentially as a lover in Wynonna’s case and as a possible big brother/ boss figure for Waverly. Melanie and Dominique execute this underlying sadness with excellent conviction. Waverly notices what Wynonna is doing finally, and becomes fixated on the shine of Peacemaker (as in the last few episodes she has become slightly obsessed with shiny things- I’m beginning to think Gooverly is a magpie demon…) She is quickly brought out of her reverie when Wynonna snatches Peacemaker away from her and we see Waverly’s confusion- as if she does not understand why she is suddenly holding the gun. When Wynonna remarks that she will have to help everyone who ‘tortured’ her in high school, Waverly tries to defend them. We see here, Dominique trying to assert that Waverly had an awesome High School life and that Waverly genuinely believes that not all of them were bad. Wynonna answers with ‘they were all Champs,’ a possible reference to Waverly’s ex boyfriend (who was actually an arrogant, sexist, homophobic pig to be honest…)
So this is what I thought of the scene and the acting behind it! If you liked it please reblog and repost as it would make my day!
