Squishes Vs. Crushes, Part ¾ - The part on squishes!! I know a lot of you have been confused about what a squish actually is, and I hope that this can help 💚✨
As you’ve probably noticed, I’ve chosen to draw my ocs again. I’m so sorry that I keep dropping them in without context (although they are significant, I’ll explain in the comments), but I … couldn’t bring myself to draw the person who I really felt that way for, in the words that I wrote. It’s something I’m still working through I guess. It’s hard to realize someone you used to think would follow for the rest of your life … isn’t the right fit for you, that way. I’ve been an open book so far with this account, but I’m not ready to share this yet. I hope that I’ve still managed to convey the feeling regardless 💚
About slide 5 - I’ve had relatively close relationships with my squishes, which may not be helpful if you’re not close with yours. The most important thing I believe describes a squish is the desire to be close to someone in a platonic way (however you define it for yourself), but wanting emotional intimacy commonly seen with romance. This isn’t an end-all, be-all description, but it’s how I percieve it/how I’ve seen it generally described. Feel free to comment if you’ve had a different experience! As always, I’d love to know what y'all think 💚💚💚

Squishes Vs Crushes (Part 2)
Squishes Vs. Crushes, Part 2/4 - Where I finally explain the rest of my opinion on what a Crush Actually Is, and perhaps more Importanly, How To Identify One 😆💚
There are a couple of things I should mention about this part - as you’ve probably noticed, I chose to draw two of my characters (who are gfs!!! 🥰) in some of the panels to help explain my points. I was originally going to draw myself for them (like the rest of these comics), but … I’m too romance-repulsed when it comes to things I’m personally involved in, and I couldn’t bring myself to do it 😭😅 (I have a feeling this is a part of being gray-aromantic for me).
And speaking of being gray-aromantic, I want to emphasize that my perception of what defines a “crush” is still influenced by the fact that well, I am AROspec 😂 As mentioned, the way that I experience romantic attraction is so brief (and also, it virtually NEVER happens) that it only lasts a few seconds now - it’s a fleeting emotion, a glimpse into a life that isn’t mine. It temporarily lets me understand the hype around romance for those few moments. Yet it goes away just as fast, and I’m left puzzled as to why I would ever feel that same emotion when I look at the person in question again!
Because of this, I don’t put a lot of stock into the feeling - but I’m almost certain allos feel differently about romantic attraction. To my undersanding, allos find this emotion to help them place importance on the person that they feel said attraction to, and it’s a part of experiencing a crush. But I’m not 100% sure 🤷🏻♀️ - so any alloros (or demiros, if you feel this applies to you), can you please let us know if this is true? And overall, if you think I’ve missed anything important on identifying a crush, please let us know!!! It would be super helpful to this group of highly confused aros 😭

Slide 4: “- and you’ll want them to be nice to you, maybe impressed by you.”
The two characters are now at a gallery show. The taller girl in the couple has taken a few photographs displayed at the show, and she asks nervously to her girlfriend if she likes it (and she does!).
Slide 5: Celia speaks to the viewer: “And In my personal experience … you do know, right away, what you’re feeling.”
Slide 6: “There’s an “oh” moment” Celia is drawn in the sketched, airbrushed style. This time she has an overlay of pink placed on her, with a concentration of the pink near her chest. A little spark of light with a heart passes through her, while little notes around her written express her surprise “oh. Fuck -”
Slide 7: “as a grayro, it goes away VERY fast” A continuation from the last panel, the pink overlay which covered her before seems to drip off of her. She seems confused, saying “huh? Why-”
Slide 8: “And over the years when I do experience this (and it’s been a while) -”
A timeline drawn in the same sketch style, from when Celia was a young teen to today. The ages are labeled 13, 14, 16, and 19 plus, and they are filled to varying degrees with the pink overlay like before. The amount drops drastically from when she was thirteen (in which it filled about half the form) to when she is an adult, where the pink is barely visible. Underneath each figure it describes how long each “crush” is, which goes from her being unsure of the length, to about a month, to 1.5 hours, to barely a few seconds.
“- it’s gotten progressively weaker each time.”
Slide 9: Celia drawn in the usual style. She smiles and laughs, “So any alloromantics out there, if you want to add your experiences in the comments, please do!”]

Growth (Part 3)
Growth, 3/3 - And … with that, we finish off yet another series 🐸🐸 I hope y’all enjoyed the ride, I know it’s been a long wait for this, but I really wanted to take my time and craft this comic and what I had to say with it (and also take my time with these last few greenhouse scenes haha).
I don’t think the ways in which amatonormativity affects us has been explored as much, since our awareness of the topic is so new. Or at the very least, I haven’t seen much discussion and I feel like we’re all just taking stabs at it atm. So here’s my take, it’s something I’ve reflecting on for quite some time, and I hope you’ve found it interesting too.
Also, this is less relevant to aromanticism, but I wanted to sign off on this: I know growing up I really clung to the idea of finding the *right* relationship, romantic or not, to be this kind of … magical key, to fixing many of my personal problems. But as I’ve learned through my own experiences, sometimes all you really need is the time and space to rest, to recover, and the will to try again at the end of the day (or the next morning, or whenever your strength returns).
If love and relationships have been the key to your healing and growth – fantastic! I’m genuinely so happy for you, and I think that is beautiful. But to anyone that needs to hear it, you can be fine too without. Your growth can be something that you shape and lead, and for what it’s worth. I think you will find at the end of the day the path you carve for yourself will be beautiful in its own ways, too.

Slide 6: “I became strong, confident. More patient and kind and understanding than I had ever been, all of these traits that supposedly would have been the rewards of love,”
Celia sits in her gardening attire. From her hand floats a fern unfurling, with sparkles in the background.
Slide 7: “Except I didn’t fall in love. I wasn’t motivated by any person, romantically or platonically or otherwise. And as much as I wish it was because I embraced self-love … it actually wasn’t either.
I grew because I had finally been given enough space to heal from what had been hurting me back then. And because I wanted to.”
Slide 8: “People love to say that everyone eventually blooms in the presence of “true love”, but I’ve always disagreed. Celia is illustrated talking to a blank person, from which a speech bubble shows a flowering plant. Celia says “I don’t agree”.
Slide 9: Back in the greenhouse, Celia is shown watering plants as the sun shines behind her. “In nature, not every plant flowers.”
Slide 10: “And those plants are no less beautiful for it.”
Shot pans out into the wider greenhouse, an array of nonflowering plants depicted around Celia as she stands with her watering can. The afternoon sun pours into the building, illuminating her and her surroundings.
