"let me take care of this, alright? you should relax for now," you smiled at the butler as you took cups of tea from him. you could see through barbatos’ stoic demeanour with ease after spending a lot of time with him. you knew he had been stressing due to recent events. he slept even less than a prince and his right hand who were buried under mountains of paperwork.
"thank you," he reciprocated the smile and bid you goodbye.
after making sure he wasn't going to suddenly change his mind and come back, you headed toward prince's private study. not bothering to knock you opened the door with your elbow balancing three cups and snacks in your hands.
the demon prince immediately perked up when he saw you coming in, big grin adorning his face. your own cheerful expression faltering within seconds as you noticed demons' complexion. you could tell with one glance that both of them were extremely tired.
you set everything on a coffee table and approached lucifer who sat closer to you. he still hadn't even lifted his head to greet you, too engrossed in his work. he usually got like this especially when there was a lot of paperwork to sign. putting your hand on his shoulder, you gently squeezed it as you stood behind his chair. kissing the top of his head, he hummed acknowledging your presence.
“i brought you your favourite tea,” you told him as he read over another document.
feeling a tug on your shirt you turned around to look at the other demon. you noticed his impatience as he waited for you to greet him too.
“i’ve been trying to get him to rest for an hour now, my love. he won’t budge,” diavolo pulled you closer and nuzzled his face into your stomach as you stood between his legs. you sighed at his words and glanced at the oldest brother as you played with prince's hair.
"good thing i came. he has to take a break now that i'm here," diavolo looked up at you with his big eyes. warmth spread through your body at his lovesick expression. you still couldn't understand how he looked at you with the same, if not bigger, amount of love as the day he confessed to you. it was as if he was falling in love with you more and more each day.
not being able to contain yourself, you cupped his cheeks and leaned down to kiss him shortly. you missed the feeling of his lips on your own. they were always so soft that kissing him seemed like a luxury. but you really couldn't expect less from royalty.
the tanned man stood up and stretched, feeling stiff after hours of paperwork. he gave you a peck before heading towards the big couch next to the fireplace.
you waited a bit for lucifer to follow into prince's footsteps as he usually did but the demon didn’t even budge. still diligently working on documents.
“luci, leave it for now. i will help later,” you frowned hearing no reply from him. “lucifer.”
the demon looked up at you surprised, not expecting to hear his full name. it was rare for you to use it when talking to him. ever since the three of you started dating, you more often shortened their names and used pet names when you wanted to catch their attention quicker. full names only ever brought up when you were annoyed or mad.
“put that pen down or so help me, i will drag you away from this desk by force,” your stern tone signalling that you weren’t joking. he was aware you weren’t afraid to use his pact against him. even for such trivial things.
lucifer sighed and put the pen down. he leaned back in his chair and tilted his head back to look at you. your scowl turned into soft expression the second you noticed dark bags under his eyes. you run your fingers through his hair and leaned down to kiss his forehead.
“dia is waiting for us,” you whispered and smiled softly as if to reassure him that leaving the desk wouldn't be the end of the world. even if it seemed like it at that second.
he let you drag him toward the couch where the prince was sitting. you sat down and let diavolo fix his position so you could put your arm around him as he leaned back against your side. he took your hand and started playing with your fingers, a habit he developed a few weeks into your relationship. it was something that helped him relax a lot quicker.
lucifer lied down on your lap. you could see exhaustion finally getting to him as he let out a deep breath. he turned around and buried his face into your stomach as he usually tended to do. taking it as a sign and you started playing with his hair. he loved whenever you or diavolo did that. it helped him calm down after a stressful day.
"didn't i tell you not to overwork yourself? you could have called me for help," you scolded two demons. you knew they had to take care of themselves for centuries and managed, although very poorly even with barbatos' help. but you really couldn't help but worry whenever they pushed their limits.
"we don't want to bother you with stuff like this, my love. you should be able to enjoy the exchange program, not sit crammed in front of the desk doing paperwork with us," diavolo interwined your fingers and started tracing patterns at the back of your hand with his finger.
you sighed at his reply. you often told them that you would choose those boring, mundane tasks with them over hanging out with your friends without hesitation but they still insisted for you to go out.
"i already told you i don't mind. i enjoy spending time with you idiots. even if it includes boring me to death with mountains of documents," you glanced at the desk with a grimace. "luci already vouched for me so there's no reason for me not to help you two."
diavolo put his head on your shoulder and looked at you. his big golden eyes full of amusement.
"none else would want to fill out documents. what got you so determined?"
"you've been sitting there for few days since that accident doing nothing but paperwork," you put your forehead on his. "i really missed you and luci. but honestly, i'm just mad that the first thing i see is you two exhausted from work which i could help you with. i told you so many times that your health comes first but you never prioritise it."
lucifer took your hand and softly kissed your knuckles. delicate brush of his lips helped you swallow the lump in your throat.
"how about we take a break for the rest of the day and do something you want as payment for worrying you?" the oldest intervened your fingers and kissed your hand once again.
"i don't care what we'll be doing, i just want you two to take a proper break," you mumbled. "tomorrow i'll be joining you two and i better not hear any arguments about it."
"whatever you desire, my love," diavolo whispered softly.
