[Img description - a comic. First panel, A woman sat at a desk with a graphics tablet, thoughts whirling around her head - Is it a mistake for me to spend so much time on this game? It's so niche. It's basically a glorified fan game. It's bound to result in an amateurish product, If I was more savvy I'd be developing a sustainable creative career. My peers are getting book deals and winning awards and becoming established creatives, what am I doing? Is this contributing enough to the world? Panel 2 - She looks down at the graphics tablet. Panel 3 - A view of the tablet, with a drawing of a house on it. Panel 4- The woman puts her hands over her face and says 'Ahhh but it makes me happy!']

I made this comic a little while ago about a game I'm making called The Beekeeper's Picnic, a cosy point and click adventure featuring a retired Sherlock Holmes.
Now, I do actually want people to play and enjoy this game. I think my creative work is a kind of communication, and it brings me joy to know it's succeeding in communicating with people.
So I'm just going to slip in here that there is a kickstarter for the game running at the moment. And it's going really well!
But actually the main message I want to tell you is this:
I think it's actually ok just to BE and to DO. To dip your hand in ochre and make a handprint in a cave wall because you're a human being, and you want to see how it feels, and you want a way to externalize your complicated inner world.
Our capitalist society will tell you that you must use your resources, you must not squander gifts or opportunities, that you must rise, that you must produce, produce, produce.
But I made a little house in my computer and I found happiness in it.
If I say that's enough, it's enough. ❤️

THE ADVENTURE OF CHARLES AUGUSTUS MILVERTON - part one of several, because this is one of my favorite Holmes stories! Ever since I read it I had a feeling there was something more...personal...going on with Holmes's hatred for Milverton than simply a principled stand against blackmail. A lot of this is directly pulled from the books but of course I took it in my own direction!
This is in the Watson's sketchbook series, and specifically references the Hound of the Baskervilles entry in that series :)
also thank you to my friend Phoenix for reading this when it was in sketch phase and reassuring me that it made sense!

I've always privately made fun of Watson for his apparent inability to focus on anything that isn't Holmes. If all the attention to detail that he has when studying Holmes was directed at the crime scene - rather than Holmes' reaction to the crime scene, client, etc. - Watson would make a good detective himself.
But since I started watching Granada Holmes I have to take that back given that so often I can't follow what's going on because I'm just mesmerized by the way Jeremy Brett moves and can't pay attention to anything else. I'm not listening to what this witness is saying, I'm looking at Jeremy's micro facial expressions in reaction to it. I didn't notice the rest of the room, I was looking at the way Jeremy moves his hands and swirls around and touches the furniture and walks and tilts his head and crawls on the floor and sniffs cigarette butts and

Absolutely in love with the fact that they didn’t address Sherlock stimming today and you could just hear his clicking in the background of them loading their evidence on the computer. Like it’s just a part of their life and they don’t point it out anymore. Aaaaaagh

Sherlock being autistic, but not uncaring? Yeah I’ll have a few of those.
And here’s some older Sherlock art:

Doodles for SHOSCOMB OLD PLACE, a wholesome adventure in which Watson and Holmes go fishing and hang out with a dog. Don’t worry about the charred human bones in the furnace.
(This is part of the Watson’s sketchbook series!)
