an anon asked about this and we agreed it'd be fun to see what different people use! these are simply a personal preference with no wrong answers. We personally switch between condition and disability due to it causing pains bad enough to cause hospitalization / affects our daily life.

My main blog is suppressed so none of my posts show up on the tags, I was wondering if you'd post a poll for intersex people; which term do you prefer to describe yourself
Intersex variation
Intersex condition
Intersex disorder/DSD
Other/whichever option you'd like to add
I'm intersex and prefer variation to describe myself, I just would like to see what others generally use.
We can do that! We looked up what variation means (English words are hard sometimes) and it showed the main type as mutation. I'm curious if that's how you use it? (I assume it's reclaiming the concept of being a mutation which is valid to do)

intersex culture is realizing that you may have experienced IGM and feeling so incredibly upset that you were likely mutilated at birth and now everyone online still bullies me for being transfem when I literally had my genitals forced to look more fem adjacent than they were when i was born and I get called privileged for being medically violated
I'm sorry that happens so commonly to our community. It's not a privilege, those who say that clearly didn't experience it themselves.

Having your endocrine doctor say you're intersex but being terrified of telling your primary care doctor because you know they're exorsexist & transphobic. Side note, is it accepted to identify as intersex in this situation? I have been for a little while now and I keep getting struck with imposter syndrome because I don't have an on-paper diagnosis. At the same time I'm very sure because of the natal precocious puberty I had where I developed features of the opposite of my agab, but it isn't on paper and I'm afraid I'll be shunned by the community for that at some point. Growing up I wasn't taken to the doctor often, and I've only just been finding this out as a freshly moved adult. (Sorry for just dumping this all on you)
We've seen people not have it listed to avoid certain discriminations before. So wether on or off paper, Intersex is Intersex if you feel that's what fits you. many people don't find out until adulthood due to how large the intersex spectrum is as well :]

The intersex experience is always being confused about what labels fit me until someone finally tells me it's ok to just be transfem and that being intersex doesn't inherently mean I need to have a complex gender

The intersex experience is hating AFAB/AMAB & TME/TMA. I propose saying you're ANAB, Assigned Nunya At Birth.

The intersex experience is people constantly trying to force you into categories that exclude intersex people. "Are you amab or afab? Yes you said intersex but which are you and are you tma or tme. I use those as alt agab categories because only amabs are tma, all afabs are tme. I need to know what you are so I can decide if your experiences are valid". So many perisex people talk to me with this mindset. Intersex people are a spectrum. Some intersex people don't identify as amab or afab, some identify as both. Some would be classified as tma with a vagina or tme with a dick. Some experience both sides based on who they meet that day. Let us decide what we are. Don't decide for us.

(rant) I hate how sports are separated by sex. I always say they shouldn't be but my mom told me she didn't like it either, but there is some biological advantage/reason for it in certain sports. She also said I should get into weight lifting like her because I would be good at it. (I have pcos). Idk how to explain it, It's just upsetting that theres that intersex erasure. that she thinks sports should be clearly divided yet not seeing the nuance already there

The intersex experience is seeing people who think they’re including you actively exclude you in the most aggressive way possible and have perisex “allies” cheer them on for “thinking about” intersex people.
“I support intersex people!!! Intersexism is bad! But, you either have to have 100% female or 100% male sex characteristics and nobody has anything else also instead of saying female and male I’m gonna say AFAB and AMAB as if they’re the same also I’m super bioessentialist and think women and men have inherit characteristics and sex always relates to gender but I’m pseudo-trans inclusive about it so I can’t be bigoted also you can’t be transmasc and have a penis or transfem and have a vulva. And while we’re at it, sex based violence only applies to perisex transfems but I won’t explicitly say perisex I’ll just make it clear with my language and activism that I don’t think intersex transfems exist nor do I recognize intersex genital mutilation or intersex based violence! Also you can’t experience sex based violence if you’re a man, further adding into my point that I don’t even think about intersex people at all in any of my activism or day to day life! But yeah I support intersex people 😊”
And then when you call them out you’re transphobic and they assume you’re not intersex

Making an announcement because I didn't know we'd get vents like this. If you were assaulted due to being intersex. You have the anon button to open up about it, but we aren't going to post it. Especially detailed or graphic events. Vague mentions or things like "violence happens to intersex people a lot" is alright though.
We want to let everyone know your trauma is valid. You aren't alone in this experience and there's communities / help available out there. We just don't think a tumblr blog is a good place for us to share these events.

hi just wondering if you consider pcos intersex?
based on what we've learned about it, yes. we know some with pcos ID as intersex while some don't though. all are welcome here if they want to be!

More positive one
The poc intersex experience is being nervous your partner won't find you attractive because you're "too masculine" even for a poc* but them loving you exactly how you are and supporting you making decisions on your body for the first time
*where we're from poc perisex people are considered more masculine than white perisex people, so poc intersex people like us are considered even more masculine due to our traits from being poc and from being intersex
It's wonderful your partner is so supportive!

The intersex experience is being told that you aren't intersex and they won't even look into it by a doctor (bonus if they have never even seen your body) because being intersex is very rare and then being told all the symptoms you're having are just bad periods only for them to be very very wrong

Being intersex is knowing clearly that your sex is not right compared to perisex standards but not having the ability to get a proper diagnosis because your intersex health is the least of your worries. Like it's clear I have some form of intersex that I can see both physically (and a doctor has agreed isn't "normal") and other symptoms of being intersex but my other health conditions are of higher priority. It just sucks because I constantly think I don't deserve to be considered an intersex person because it's not like I can get a diagnosis or dive deeper into it. (Also can I be anon 🪻)
I understand that experience. And you can!
