LIFE Claire Ashwood was born in Washington, D.C. to two parents that loved her very deeply. She had a very good childhood both at home and at school. She was always a social butterfly and has had loads of friends for as long as she could remember. Her life was almost unrealistically sunshine-and-rainbows until she met Iza Kline at age sixteen. Iza introduced Claire to a life of crime, starting with keeping lookout while Iza stole candy from a movie theatre to helping Iza hide bodies. Claire joined the Family to stay close to Iza, whom she considered her best friend. However, she quickly became very attached to the other members and now cannot imagine leaving the group, despite knowing that she is substantially more light-hearted and harmless than the others. She refuses to directly partake in anything that would hurt someone else, but always helps out in other ways when she can, typically by getting information for the others.

LIFE Elowin Relonde was born in rural Montana. His father was extremely unstable and would often disappear for weeks at a time. He was an alcoholic and poorly hid his cocaine addiction from his family. He never exactly abused his wife or Elowin, but still impacted both of them extremely negatively. He didn't like to talk about why he acted this way, and he gave his wife the vague explanation of his parents "always being all over him about something or other." To avoid having something similar happen to Elowin, she decided to rarely interact with him. With Elowin's father rarely home and his mother only speaking to him when absolutely necessary, he grew up with a great deal of unchecked mental issues that manifested in violence, both imagined and realized. By the time he was in middle school, he was killing animals, at first to try to get his parents' attention and later because it genuinely amused him. At age seventeen he killed his first human being, facing no legal consequences because the boy he killed had bullied him throughout school. He claimed it was self defense. The Family gives him what he considers to be a perfect outlet to continue killing people. He's having the time of his life, but since he's so focused on his own whims rather than the operation of the Family, he's not well liked by the other members.

He had a relatively good relationship with his family and grew up facing no abuse and little hardships, other than not having much money. He excelled in school, receiving numerous scholarships in his senior year of high school and getting accepted to most colleges he applied to. He ended up not attending college full time due to his membership in the Family. He would have majored in astrodynamics. While Evan's life has been generally free of turmoil, it is important to note that it has also lacked any real high points. His life before the Family, as he put it, was "astoundingly average and utterly exhausting to have to endure." He never felt truly passionate about anything and never accomplished anything that he deemed impactful or worthwhile. This led to wildly violent fantasies starting when he was eleven or twelve years old - fantasies which he has begun to fulfil as a member of the Family.
