It feels like this rehearsal is never going to end. But that’s just Malena’s dramatic-side talking, of course. Abbington is like a bull on a rampage, making sure that tomorrow’s show is better than the ‘last pile of horse crap that was yesterday’s show’ -- his words, obviously. Her time practicing on the stage is still a ways away, and Malena figures this is the perfect time to sneak out for a quick cigarette.

None of the other performers sitting in the mezzanine with her pay her no mind as she walks towards the lobby and out the front doors. When she steps outside, Malena isn’t sure what smell worse -- the theater, or Saint Denis itself.

Lighting a cigarette in her mouth, Malena looks over to the show posted that’s hung near the doors. Her brow furrows when she realizes something.

“You have got to be shittin’ me!”

He didn’t miss her brief reaction to his words. He watched her, eyebrows raised, waiting to see if she’d share what was the matter…she seemed like the type of lady who didn’t keep things to herself. He hadn’t meant any offense – and truthfully he wasn’t quite sure how anything he said could have caused offense. Thankfully, she appeared to shrug it off.

“I promise I won’t go easy on you!” he said, returning her grin. “How about fifty cents?”

“Oh, well, that’s perfectly okay with me, good sir! I’m a lady who loves a challenge.” The whiskey Cecilia had earlier is making her feel a little bold, and she gives the man a coquettish wink before shuffling and dealing the cards. Her first hand is a pretty decent start, a three of a kind.

Feeling bold, Cecilia tosses a nickel into the pile. “I’ll see that fifty cents, and raise you five more.”

Cain did her best to keep an even expression, watching the woman as she spoke in response to what she’d replied with. Listening to her reminded the woman just how sad and lonely this world really was for everyone– reminded her how all of them seemed to end up in a place maybe not what they’d intended. Still, Cecilia did in fact seem fine. She was a woman with some sort of plan and a confidence that Cain envied slightly.

“I… yeah, I guess I do,” Cain’s hands were wrapped a bit too tightly around the bottle of gin, eyeing it a long moment only to hand it back with a polite smile, “Don’t think I’m feelin’ much of a drink after all that talk. Mind will get too clouded and start runnin’ in ways I don’t like it to.”

She paused then only to look back to Cecilia with a curious expression, “Can I ask though– do you have other plans for you life? Or did you? Is this… is this just it?”

Cecilia pulled the bottle back when the woman chose to stay sober for the rest of the night. “Fair enough,” she said with a slight shrug and took a quick, but generous sip of gin. The tang of the alcohol has lost its burn, and with the warm of the fire and the summer breeze, the gin almost feels refreshing, prompting Cecilia to take another sip.

But when the woman asks Cecilia if she had any plans for her life, the redhead can’t help the dry laugh that spills out of her. “‘Plans’?” Cecilia echos with a grin, though the light of her smile doesn’t reach her eyes. “Plans...” she said again, softer this time.

“No, truth be told, I didn’t really’ve plans for m’self. My family did, but I ran away from home fer different reasons.” Cecilia takes another generous sip just to get through this next part. Not because it’s painful, but that she hates talking about it. “Long story short, I couldn’t handle m’grief, so I left. I fell into this life after meetin’ some... bad folk.”

le life update~

Hey yall! Sorry to be MIA these past few days. I work as a marketing manager for an animal hospital, so it’s been crazy this whole week since I’ve been posting COVID-19 updates non-stop, and making graphics/videos for social media on the hospital’s updated protocols.

Also, I got married! My husband and I had the religious ceremony on the 30th in our living room, so in the eyes of God we’re married lol legally, we won’t be until September since I had to push back the date.

I still have a lot of major projects coming up for work, but I’ll try to be more active! Thanks for being patient with me!

Yes, shipping does need chemistry between the two muses, but if you look at my muse and think ‘You know what, I’d like to ship my muse with theirs!’, feel free to tell me, even before we start threads!

I love having a direction/goal to work the characters towards – when I write fiction on my own, I like having goals and plot points, like romances, family and friend relationships, rivals and enemies.. why wouldn’t I like having the same with RP? RP is just collaborative fiction writing!

There’s no shame in liking ships, or even RPing for ships. There’s tons of people in the world who love to read romance novels, and no one tries to tell them that’s wrong or worse than liking mysteries, or fantasy adventure. Neither preference is wrong, it’s just that – a preference!
