Oblivion has the weirdest aesthetic choices going on. Everything is super bright and saturated, the characters look silly and almost bordering on cartoonish, and the voice acting and delivery tends to be pretty silly. The whole things has such a strong classic fantasy vibe compared to the other tes games, but also there's a bunch of realistic gore and rotting corpses and really dark questlines with gross visuals (for the quality of those visuals). it's such a weird game.

Imagine a vampire who had chronic pain when they were alive and who thought they would lose their condition when they became immortal and while they do gain the typical super strength and vampire magic powers they still have their normal pain. It's almost worse now because normal painkillers no longer affect them and they have to shell out for the expensive magic stuff. Any time they ask for help they get advice like "drink lots of blood" "go for nightly walks through the cemetery" and "try bat yoga (yoga but you're a bat)" and it's just generally frustrating when everyone acts like they've never even heard of a vampire in pain before.
At the same time, a werewolf has chronic pain and has a different issue where pain is pretty normal for werewolves while shifting, but when they start feeling joint pain and aches in their day-to-day life even without shifting. There are a lot of resources to shift in a safe way to minimize discomfort but other wolves are baffled when they talk about being in pain without shifting.

I was supposed to just redesign my Oblivion character and my hand slipped (consecutively for three days)

So Valean was created somewhere in 2018 I think after my first failed play-through of Oblivion, and of course I fell hard for the hooded stink man
Initially, they were the saddest ship that I had, the plot line being that after Lucien's murder, Val desperately tries to bring him back by any means possible. After some years of searching, he dies of an enchanted item that was supposed to bring back his lover. As a result, he'd haunt the cavern where Lucien's body rests, two souls mourning one another for eternity, doomed never to cross paths again.
So technically that is still canon for them, but I'm easily persuaded and one pair of glossy eyes successfully coerced me to make a fix-it that is slowly taking the first spot as the main story.
Starting from the top right, I imagine this being the moment of confrontation when Lucien accuses Val of being the traitor, telling him that he betrayed both Sithis and his heart.
The top left is where the story diverges, Val does make it in time. He exposes the true traitor and cuts Lucien down, fully realising how close he was to losing the man who means the world to him.
The bottom three are post-incident, rebuilding the Black Hand. The Speaker and his sentinel.

another thing about morrowind i love that is basically immediately removed from the series afterwards is that morrowind like. puts some actual thought into its animal life. like i’ve said, tes and a lot of other fantasy has really weird ideas about nature, and morrowind isn’t exempt from the gameplay flaw of literally every single animal in the game being on a single-minded mission to kill you for no goddamn reason.
but morrowind also like, does show you that people do have other relationships with the native fauna. it’s not all saint jiub the ecological terrorist out there. the kwama egg miners live in harmony with their kwama and we know exactly how the egg miners get around the kwama’s instinct to defend the nest. there’s a man in the game who is on an expedition to record kagouti mating behaviors. we know exactly how silt striders work as transport and how the dunmer live with them. there’s a distinction between wild and domestic strains of guar. the animals feel more like part of a landscape and a society and culture than they do later in the series and i miss that.
