Scuba was busy - busier than locals had let on. Maybe they were used to the chaos of the underground bar, but it left Mercy with a sour taste in his mouth. All he wanted to do was meet with a regular that’d been texting him, pathetically begging for their weekly fix, and head home. Somehow, instead, he’d found himself trapped in conversation, doing all he could to be on his very best behaviour so he didn’t get kicked out before making the deal. However, someone stumbling past and bumping into him, causing the drink in his hand to spill slightly, seemed to be the final straw. Staring at the dregs that slopped over his hand for a second, Mercy scoffed - it was on complete impulse when he leaned forward, splashing what was left in his cup at their back, “You got any fucking eyes? Real living human being here, watch where you’re going, Stevie Wonder,” he spat, plastic pint glass tossed at their feet as if to punctuate their sentence. @irvingstarters​

            scuba  has  always  been  one  of  margot’s  least  favorite  attractions  in  irving  .  she  has  far  too  many  memories  of  trying  to  use  fake  identification  for  too  strong  drinks  with  her  friends  of  days  past  ,  and  she  especially  can  remember  just  how  packed  the  dive  bar  could  be  .  maybe  she’s  incapable  of  remembering  how  busy  it  could  be  ,  but  on  nights  like  this  where  she  only  wants  a  strong  drink  that’s  sure  to  knock  her  out  once  she’s  at  home  ,  but  it’s  nearly  impossible  to  get  to  the  bar  .  so  ,  margot  resorts  to  the  occasional  push  and  shove  ,  not  that  some  of  the  drunken  patrons  would  realize  what  she’s  done  .  she’s  nearly  there  as  she  squeezes  through  a  small  opening  ,  but  a  staggering  woman  makes  her  step  back  suddenly  .  luckily  (  or  perhaps  not  )  ,  margot  thinks  she’s  in  the  clear  when  she  feels  liquid  splash  against  her  back  and  drip  down  the  silk  of  her  blouse  .  ‘  are  you  out  of  your  mind  ?  ’  margot  ignores  the  quip  ,  turning  around  on  heeled  feet  to  face  him  .  ‘  ouch  ,  please  excuse  me  as  i  go  cry  in  the  corner  just  because  you  got  bumped  on  the  shoulder  .  wah  ,  wah  .  it  sounds  like  there’s  a  baby  in  a  dive  bar  .  ’

           growing  up  in  a  household  full  of  expectations  was  ,  by  margot’s  definition  ,  was  the  worst  existence  known  to  mankind  .  she  desired  to  do  what  ‘  normal  ’  children  would  do  ,  and  that  didn’t  include  church  and  excursions  as  if  it  were  a  right  of  passage  .  perhaps  it  was  ,  but  for  margot  ,  this  was  not  what  she  wanted  to  do  with  her  life  .  don’t  get  her  wrong  ,  though  ,  margot  didn’t  hate  church  .  if  anything  ,  she  didn’t  understand  why  she  was  expected  to  go  so  often  as  if  that  were  going  to  change  anything  .  she  did  well  in  school  ,  save  for  a  few  small  quizzes  that  would  catch  her  by  surprise  ,  and  she  played  a  sport  .  what  more  could  her  parents  have  wanted  from  her  ?  apparently  ,  they  expected  for  her  to  shoot  rainbows  out  of  her  ass  .

           of  course  ,  high  school  comes  around  and  like  most  teenage  girls  ,  margot  develops  crushes  .  her  first  boyfriend  is  nothing  but  a  puppy  love  scenario  ,  which  lasts  all  of  three  months  after  she  gets  mad  at  him  for  forgetting  her  cutie  pie’s  order  .  next  comes  a  string  of  boyfriends  that  aren’t  good  for  her  ,  nor  are  they  what  her  parents  would  have  liked  for  her  .  it’s  during  her  senior  year  that  margot  finds  herself  truly  falling  in  love  for  the  first  time  ,  and  it’s  also  what  will  become  the  worst  year  of  her  life  .  everything  about  their  relationship  was  built  on  wishes  .  they  would  wish  to  get  out  of  their  small  town  .  they  would  wish  for  more  time  in  the  days  to  be  together  .  

            the  bad  year  builds  .  first  it’s  arguments  with  her  parents  because  she  stayed  out  thirty  minutes  ,  an  hour  ,  two  hours  past  curfew  .  she  could  remember  slamming  her  bedroom  door  on  countless  nights  ,  and  texting  her  boyfriend  that  she  needed  to  leave  now  .  and  finally  ,  it  happens  one  friday  night  when  she  manages  to  sneak  clothes  in  her  sports  bag  and  finds  herself  on  the  road  out  of  irving  once  school  is  over  on  that  day  .  they  barely  make  it  three  hours  into  their  escape  ,  and  the  police  catch  up  with  them  .  margot  is  returned  home  so  fueled  with  anger  that  she  could  burst  ,  and  her  parents  scold  her  for  making  them  worry  like  that  .  their  strictness  tightens  on  her  then  ,  and  if  it  has  nothing  to  do  with  school  ,  then  she’s  barred  from  doing  so  .  for  the  rest  of  the  year  ,  margot  keeps  her  head  down  as  her  attempted  runaway  was  the  talk  of  the  town  ,  and  she  figures  that  it’s  best  for  her  to  aim  far  .

          by  far  ,  margot  means  leaving  irving  once  high  school  graduation  rolls  around  .  she  finds  herself  in  california  ,  attending  uc  berkeley  where  she  majors  in  marketing  .  the  distance  between  herself  and  her  parents  is  what  she  needs  as  she’s  finally  from  under  their  thumb  .  margot  excels  while  at  berkeley  ,  and  she  even  manages  to  find  love  again  .  she  welcomes  paloma  when  she  moves  to  los  angeles  as  well  ,  and  she  was  happy  to  reconnect  with  her  little  sister  again  .  it’s  a  could  of  years  after  her  college  graduation  that  margot  says  goodbye  to  paloma  once  more  when  her  boyfriend  is  transferred  to  london  .  their  long  term  relationship  turns  into  an  engagement  ,  but  margot  strangely  finds  herself  homesick  .  thus  ,  she  ends  the  engagement  ,  and  finds  herself  back  in  irving  .  

           currently  ,  margot  works  as  senior  marketing  manager  at  a  small  fashion  magazine  and  lives  in  port  apartments  .  it  wouldn’t  surprise  me  if  people  think  she  haunts  the  apartment  as  she  comes  and  goes  at  all  hours  and  doesn’t  really  talk  to  anyone  .  her  return  to  irving  had  been  done  quietly  ,  as  margot  has  placed  herself  in  a  self  imposed  exile  away  from  her  parents  ,  and  she  doesn’t  want  her  parents  to  know  that  she’s  in  irving  again  .  margot  has  the  itch  to  get  up  and  leave  at  all  times  ,  and  this  will  often  times  reflect  in  her  relationships  .

003.  PERSONALITY  .

           margot  ,  for  the  lack  of  better  words  ,  is  someone  who  can  never  make  up  her  mind  .  she  says  what  she  wants  and  she  does  what  she  wants  ,  which  can  sometimes  get  her  in  trouble  even  if  she  doesn’t  mean  to  do  so  .  she  is  extremely  flighty  ,  and  finds  herself  running  from  situations  even  if  they’re  going  well  .  most  people  will  say  that  she  acts  like  an  overgrown  teenager  ,  and  that  could  be  agreed  with  .  as  she  felt  so  sheltered  and  removed  from  the  world  ,  margot  has  taken  her  adult  years  to  do  as  she  so  pleases  .  often  ,  this  means  taking  random  trips  to  charlotte  to  get  a  blowout  or  to  go  shopping  for  things  she  doesn’t  need  .  she  will  offer  you  her  opinion  even  if  it’s  not  asked  for  ,  and  she  struggles  with  not  wanting  to  argue  over  even  the  pettiest  of  situations  .

            finding  a  place  to  sit  at  kahlo’s  has  been  next  to  impossible  these  days  ,  especially  since  someone  has  taken  a  liking  to  his  favorite  seat  near  the  window  .  jin  took  his  lunch  break  to  gather  up  his  laptop  and  essentials  to  work  ‘  out  of  the  office  ’  for  a  while  ,  but  to  also  get  an  iced  mocha  latte  (  something  new  to  his  pallet  )  along  with  a  ham  and  swiss  panini  .  he’s  been  working  for  the  better  part  of  an  hour  now  ,  panini  long  gone  and  half  of  his  drink  finished  when  the  door  to  the  small  café  opens  .  perhaps  jin  is  putting  the  wagon  before  the  horse  in  this  kind  of  scenario  ,  where  the  chair  scrapes  unceremoniously  against  the  floor  when  he  stands  to  his  full  height  ,  waving  to  get  paloma’s  attention  .  evidently  ,  there’s  other  chairs  available  in  the  café  (  and  who  the  hell’s  to  say  she  even  wants  to  sit  with  him  )  ,  so  he  immediately  feels  his  face  burn  red  and  sets  himself  back  down  in  his  chair  ,  praying  that  he  can  make  his  gangly  figure  as  tiny  as  possible  .

somehow someway the manager trusted lorraine to work the opening shift at the cafe. the brunette frantically set things up as soon as she got in, but in the back of her mind she felt like she was forgetting something. it was until she saw someone standing at the door when she realized. ‘ oh my god. ’, lorraine jumped before running over to unlock the doors for opening. ‘ i’m so sorry , oh my god… were you waiting for long ? ’, she asked while making her way back to stand behind the counter.

            it’s  december  of  1995  when  jinhyuk  is  born  to  parents  who  don’t  want  him  or  have  the  funds  to  raise  him  .  for  the  better  part  of  six  months  ,  he  is  raised  in  a  local  orphanage  until  he’s  nearly  a  year  old  ,  and  is  adopted  by  shin  aera  and  her  husband  ,  hangyeol  .  the  couple  are  in  their  early  thirties  at  the  time  of  jinhyuk’s  adoption  ,  and  he  has  never  made  the  effort  to  look  for  his  ‘birth’  parents  ,  even  though  aera  and  hangyeol  have  asked  if  he  would  like  to  .  the  couple  raise  their  son  in  a  relatively  normal  and  peaceful  household  on  orion  avenue  ,  and  despite  not  having  siblings  ,  jinhyuk  grows  up  to  be  a  warm  yet  tenderhearted  person  .

            it’s  during  his  high  school  years  when  jinhyuk  finally  grows  into  his  own  .  a  handsome  boy  with  wide  eyes  ,  jinhyuk  has  found  a  niche  of  people  that  he’s  comfortable  with  and  even  finds  love  for  the  first  time  when  he’s  sixteen  .  the  new  love  is  almost  overwhelming  for  jinhyuk  as  he  had  never  experienced  such  a  love  before  .  it  lasts  for  a  little  over  a  year  and  a  half  ,  and  it’s  a  love  that  jinhyuk  has  been  unable  to  forget  .  eventually  ,  jinhyuk  graduates  from  irving’s  local  high  school  and  moves  away  to  attend  college  in  ‘  the  big  city  ’  .  jinhyuk  obtains  his  bachelor’s  degree in  economics  ,  and  moves  back  home  following  graduation  .  he  takes  a  gap  year  ,  and  during  that  time  he  takes  on  the  position  of  accountant  for  kahlo’s  café  .

            since  then  ,  jinhyuk  has  been  working  job  and  living  with  his  persian  cat  named  duri  .  he  primarily  works  from  home  as  his  job  isn’t  necessarily  one  that’s  needed  in  house  ,  so  he  spends  a  lot  of  time  exploring  new  hobbies  and  half  finishing  books  that  remain  placed  all  around  his  apartment  .  he  has  far  too  many  plants  that  are  in  need  of  water  ,  and  gets  annoyed  when  the  tourists  come  to  town  because  the  beach  is  too  crowded  and  cutie  pie’s  never  has  available  seating  .

           as  an  adult  ,  jinhyuk  is  someone  who  tries  not  to  step  on  toes  and  stays  in  his  own  lane  .  he’s  not  someone  who  invokes  arguments  and  he  doesn’t  really  diffuse  them  either  ,  so  you  could  say  that  he’s  a  neutral  party  in  most  situations  .  he  could  be  considered  as  something  of  a  romantic  as  well  as  a  hopeless  romantic  ,  but  he  doesn’t  necessarily  look  for  love  as  he  believes  that  if  he’s  meant  to  fall  in  love  again  then  it  will  happen  when  the  time  is  right  .  jinhyuk  is  soft  spoken  and  he  can  be  relatively  sociable  when  he  wants  to  be  .  sometimes  ,  if  provoked  enough  ,  he  can  be  a  little  snippy  or  rude  ,  but  it’s  a  rare  chance  that  he  is  unless  he  truly  doesn’t  get  along  with  someone  .
