Before class last week, I had no idea what generative artwork was because I had never heard of it in my 18 years of living. However, when we actually began discussing it, the process started to make some sort of sense. The artists who are making generative art work use tons of different programs to make what they believe to fit into this genre of art, according to this article. Through using these programs, they can make a number of pieces that vary in shapes, colors, and what the viewer feels from looking at it.
The image below was created using Flash/Action Script.

I have had lots of experience with maps, nothing that I deeply thought about because my grandparents often ask me to print out directions for them before they go anywhere. I also do not have a great sense of direction, which I inherited from my mother, so maps come in handy when I don’t know where I’m going. One moment that sticks out in particular is when my friend and I had to use walking directions in order to get to the nearest Barnes & Noble. We had been in the area what seemed a million times before, but this was the first time that we ever had to walk anywhere. The directions from Google weren’t complicated and pretty easy to follow, less than 10 minutes walk, only a short distance from the mall parking lot. I was more worried about getting hit by a car than getting lost; I knew Google would have my back if we strayed too far from our desired location. It made me realize how lucky we are to have technology that tells us where to go because I don’t think I would survive if we didn’t.
