hobi literally was visibly annoyed by him saying that but .... ok hunty ...
I just saw this really cute video of Jimin saying “Thank you! I love you!!!” to the crowd in Australia, but I couldn’t reblog it because the caption was like the most unnecessary nastiness at Namjoon…
So…to everybody being salty because Namjoon told an interviewer that the other members aren’t fluent in English: he was right, they’re not. They can’t speak English with the same degree of comfort as him. Most of them are conversational–they can get their point across or speak well in certain contexts, e.g. ordering food–but they lack the vocabulary necessary to have long conversations in English the way Namjoon does.
That’s not a bad thing. Namjoon wasn’t trying to criticize them. In fact, I think he was trying to do what he does as a leader and take the hits for them. Think of it this way: the members aren’t comfortable speaking English. If Namjoon tells an interviewer, “Well, they can all speak some English…” the next thing out of the interviewer’s mouth is going to be, “Can everybody say something in English?” It doesn’t feel great being put on the spot like that. So Namjoon cut it off at the pass by saying, “They’re not fluent.”
That’s all. That’s the entire situation. And people are blowing it out of proportion as yet another reason to hate Namjoon. I’m so fucking tired of this. Maybe you should look up the definition of “fluent” since you’re clearly not fluent in English either.
