block printed denim, cotton batting, thread, and gifted fabric backing
thinking about natural phenomena, repetition from a single block carving, adaptive and maladaptive behaviors, and dreams from years back where my blankets turned into swarms of insects
So what this paint company does is take iron pollution from abandoned mines that are polluting soils and rivers and makes iron based red pigment paints out of it.
Basically they realized hey no one's cleaning this shit up, it's polluting the streams, killing all the fish, making the water undrinkable and there's a huge market for it so why not make money by cleaning it the fuck up?
They remove this stuff by the industrial bucket load from the rivers. The idea is if it's in a painting, if it's in your home, it's not poisoning wildlife.
anyway its cool as shit, please support tf out of these people https://gamblinstore.com/reclaimed-earth-colors-set/
Watch Star Trek, most series have at least one lady who is one of the above, if not multiple. Seven of Nine, T'pol, B'elanna and more.
[Dont watch Discovery though,, that's just starwars]
I want more stories with emotionally stunted women.
I'm talking women with the emotional intelligence of a corn chip. Women who were scolded for crying as a kid, whose feelings had always been dismissed as irrational and hysterical, who have been convinced that they're always overreacting.
Women who keep it all inside, who bottle everything up until it kills them, who can't even compliment their friends because even showing basic kindness makes them feel vulnerable. They live their lives behind several ironic proxies and haven't been genuine with anyone for as long as they can remember.
Women whose friends are more like ghosts. Texting them feels like talking to nothing through a fucking ouiji board. They can't connect to others no matter how hard they try and don't even feel human anymore.
When someone vents to them, they don't know how to react. Compassion wasn't shown to them so they have no example to follow when it comes to showing compassion to others. They end up giving unsolicited advice instead of just showing sympathy and understanding. They operate almost like a machine, thinking things through logically and in a black and white way, not taking into account the broad range of complicated human emotions and how they function.
Women who lose sight of who they are, who they want to be, and who they could be. Who go through agonizing loneliness and isolation only to hear "Women have it easier than men because they're allowed to show emotion. When men cry, they're ridiculed. When women cry, they're given support and help."
yesterday for April Fool’s my workplace had a short training article on recognizing computer-generated faces from real ones and one of the tricks mentioned was “count the teeth” and I just wanted to say that it’s both ironic and kind of horrifying how society has unwittingly cycled right back to IF YE MEET A MAN ON THE ROAD, COUNT HIS FINGERS LEST YE DEAL UNKNOWING WITH A FAE
Also, seriously, y'all – blackberry gin. Throw a carton of blackberries in a mason jar, buy some cheap gin, infuse for a week, and enjoy the most delicate, unexpectedly floral lilac-colored drink around. It completely transforms even the most dubious gin and rounds off the harsh edges – what a lovely thing. 10/10 would recommend. Home infusions are always the way to go, and gin beats vodka (no matter how cheap and cruddy) almost every time for additional depth of flavor and less harsh burn.
You can find this book on Amazon for about $25 with patterns for cardigans, hats, capes, collars etc… The first half of the book is “inspirational costumes” like The Raven pictured above. The second half is devoted to detailed patterns, using elements from the Glamourie Costumes like The Raven’s feathers.
In the words of Alice Starmore:
Glamourie is a Scots word meaning a charmed condition in which everything is invested with magical properties and possibilities. In this unique book, Alice Starmore leads us into the realm of glamourie and — like the witches of Gaelic folklore — casts spells with needles and a single thread. Taking her daughter Jade’s supernatural stories as inspiration, she uses the art of hand knitting to bewitch and bedazzle, and illustrates the tales with elaborate costumes and accessories that portray fanciful and extraordinary ideas. In creating these costumes, she has powerfully demonstrated the glamourie that can flow from the twin wands of a master magician.
When it came to creating the patterned designs, I included instructions for the essential elements that I used in the costumes. I did this so that you, the knitter, not only have the instructions to make the designs exactly as shown, but you also have these essential elements so that you can shape-shift them as little or as much as you please.
Let’s say you wanted to glue fabric to wood, but what do you use? What about glass to paper? This to That lets you choose two things you want to glue and lists what types of glue is best. (Because people have a need to glue things to other things!)
