The start

Hello dear everyone and no one

I'm not assuming someone will read my blog posts, and the purpose of this blog isn't to spread my story. It's just here as an archive of my experiences in this wonderful world of being an educator at a boarding school.

My name, for the sake of this blog, is Addison. I'm a 23 year old female overnigt-educator at an all boys boarding school. That's a mouth full, but that's exactly how I fit into that picture.

Three nights a week, I sleep at a boarding school in a city near my hometown. I arrive at 9.30 pm, get the kids in bed, and make sure they wake up in the morning and have breakfast. That's it. That's my job.

I say kids, I really mean teens. The boys all range from middle school to high school. They're rowdy (lord, they're rowdy), laugh at nasty things, and absolute sweethearts when need be. Their rooms are also completely trashed over, but that's a classic case of boys will be boys.

The reason I started at this boarding school was very simple. My dad is a teacher in said school, and heard they needed someone new to work three nights a week. I'm currently in my last year of my post-bachelor's degree in special education, and have no experience with teen boys whatsoever. My dad proposed, since I only have my internship twice a week this year, to try and get this job as I do have a pedagogical degree.

By some stroke of luck, I was chosen out of the five candidates for the job. I told them clearly it was something I wanted to do for this year, as I'm planning on working full time. I told them I have no experience with teen boys whatsoever. I still got the job. Makes you wonder, eh.

The boys were quite stumped seeing their new overnight-educator was a girl. I couldn't blame them. I honestly feared they would reject my authority, and wouldn't listen to me. As luck would have it, they don't see me any differently than the other educators around the boarding school.

Working here has made me see, learn, and experience so many things, and the school year isn't even halfway done.

I cannot wait to share all my experiences with whoever decides to read this.
