Happy Birthday to...
..me!
Yeah, I was born on a cold and stormy Friday night, some xx years ago. Actually, the night was neither cold, nor stormy (or so my mom keeps telling me), but August 24th was a Friday on that year as well as it is today.
Am I having fun? Well... I seem to be having more fun on other people's birthdays than on my own, mainly because I don't much care about myself.
The whole "I'm happy I've lived through another year" attitude is not one I've been too comfortable with in ...ummm.... ever. Why? Well, a lot of people (or so I'm told) do contemplate on their lives on their birthdays. And I'm no different than them. The difference comes with the fact that most of the things I see are failures, or at least disappointments. I see my life, and the choices I've made... but I really can't see the future. Or maybe I don't want to see it, as the past years have taught me that things (as a rule) don't go my way...
I wish I knew where The Rolling Stones got their idea that You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes you get what you need... I've tried and I've tried, but still the things I need to happen in my life aren't there... Yup, I do understand the difference between "want" and "need," and the things I need are truly essential to my life... but no matter how I try, those things seem to be slipping further and further away.
Maybe it's finally time to stop trying, then.
By now anyone reading this probably guesses that I'm not partying today/tonight. Why should I? I don't like it when people wish me "Happy Birthday," as they assume I'm actually happy about it... And naturally I don't want them to feel bad or ask stupid questions (like "Why are you so sad, Taira?"), I'd have to put on a happy face and act like everything's okay... And I really hate doing that!

Here's another Taira fact: In the past few years I've managed to get rid of most of my "I'm OK"/"I'm happy" -act. I've actually come to realize that I don't need to hide behind a mask... Unless I'm working... One of the few things I've learned is that a you cannot show your true feelings when you are in retail... otherwise you scare off all the customers. (and get into a lot of trouble with the boss)

All this ranting might come off as slightly suicidal, but that's not what I'm aiming at. I might be a bit down, or even depressed, but it seems to be completely normal with me. Even though I might not see a bright future ahead of me, it doesn't mean I'm not going experience it at all.
I'll be around... Not very happy, but I'll be around...
