Carmine eyes blink owlishly at the thing placed in her palm. It certainly bares some likeness to a man vaguely familiar, his legs bent awkwardly, grinning up at her with a rather dopey, smudged expression. Perhaps it is not the sort of keychain most young teenaged girls would want. . .

And yet, a little quirk of the lips, a small huff of a laugh, cracks Ayanami's blank visage.

From between the jail bars comes an unopened bottle of o-toso: New Year's sake. It's given an enticing shake, the hand on the other end holding firm-- though not firm enough to imply it's not willing to share. "You look lonely."

Zenigata's smile is gentle, genuine... It would seem the new year has already put him in high spirits. (Or perhaps he's still riding the high of successfully nabbing one of Lupin's gang...) "C'mon, don't be a sore loser. There's enough here for the both of us, I bet."

Of course, the inspector had held him captive before, but with the intense sniffing he'd done for years on himself and company held in the past, he was unmistakable for finding one of his favorites. Goemon stirs from his spot on the farthest corner of the cell to stand, facing the light.

Memories of his adolescence crept into his mind. Yuri always scolded him for rushing their garnishes. She insisted on perfect carrot flowers and uniform rings of green onion. The doctor smiled, recalling his first attempt at bunny shaped rice for his little sister’s lunch. After spending a good portion of his teen years studying magazine clippings for a textbook girls’ bento he felt confident in his rice shaping skills. Kiriko gently laid out the lettuce in his partner’s wooden bento box to cradle the sticky rice puppy. 

         Kiriko parked his motorbike at the curb. Cherry blossom petals fell neatly onto its black chrome. “Zenigata-san?” Kiriko smiled into the phone speaker. “Happy birthday… I brought you something.”

how fitting; the inspector is inspecting. inspecting her. not the first time and certainly not the last. she's watching his eyes; the way his thick brows draw together while they roam her face. such concentration that stops steady when he finds the source of the blood. he brushes away strands of hair and accidentally bumps it—the small gash right above her left eyebrow that her bangs once concealed. a sharp inhale leaves her lips. the fact it's zenigata to nurse her wound might have drawn a laugh out of her if it weren't for the mild throbbing of her head. it threatens to envelop completely. the humor will reach the corners of her lips and nothing more, diminishing as he tilts her head in a delicate manner that seemed unbefitting of him, though fujiko won't dwell—she's waiting for the opportunity to hit him with her doe eyes, rosy lips turned downward in a pout. time to ask the important question here.

this time, it wasn’t Ree’s fault.

They’ve always had a sort of beef with the kids that live at the base of blush mountain. It all started back when Ree was first getting used to being a skull— and it’s only ramped up more and more since then. The group of teens that live over there hate Ree, and to be honest, Ree’s never been fond of them either.

it’s always been a back and forth. Ree gets them, they get ree. They backed off for a while, after ree got out of the hospital, but clearly, enough time has passed where they’re okay with getting into brawls with the half-pint again.

Ree broke one of their noses, this morning. The guy was taunting Ree, picking on them, for being small. For not being as strong as they used to be, back when they could fight without their muscles screaming or their bones aching. It was enough that Ree’s blood boiled and their fist made contact without them thinking.

and now, the boy is back … but he brought backup. A lot of backup.

ree grimaces, looking at the lot of them. They’ve only got their cane, and sure, their ghosts could take care of quite a few of them, but — the odds are pretty stacked. The blond takes a deep breath, getting into position to take down as many of these assholes as they can, when —

“— AH?!”

They’re scooped up, suddenly and without warning. Ree startles, giving a shout; freezing at the sudden way they’re grabbed. At first, the panic rises up to their throat, before they catch the sight of that beat up brown coat, and …

— yep. That’s him. He’s already running at a full sprint, and the other kids are already shrinking in the distance. He sure knows how to run. It would almost be impressive if Ree’s heart still wasn’t racing.

Ree didn’t even know Zenigata was around, but … it’s just that way sometimes, huh? Zenigata flits in and out of perception as he pleases …

HARVEY AUGHHHHHH UR SO SMART!!!!!!! honestly dai wouldn't be a hardcore pokemon trainer (he's here to steal hearts not to win fights or become champion^tm) so he wouldn't have a fully decked out party. dai would LOATHE battling, he'd never want to do it, even if given dark's reputation he'd probably get flamethrowers and lightning bolts fired his way every other day or night. it's hard being dark. he'll still use his abilities to save other people because that's his whole thing but whatever.

in my head it was like - hilariously enough dark and wiz would be daisuke's only 'pokemon' and this was an immutable concept in my Brain, if i didn't go the legendary/fragment of giratina route then dark just would've been a gengar possessing the niwa line (to mirror the way dark's sometimes described as the infinitely repeating 'ghost' of the original niwa/ancestor) or a nightmare-curse from darkrai that bled into reality (not biblical/'creation' focused enough, esp on the hikari side of things.)

dark's not allowed to be human, ever, so why not make him just the weird human-infused product of the equivalent of vaguely-pokemon-satan already who has weird dimension hopping powers(dai n dark can already do that normally) and a cool edgelord aesthetic that has a gold torque just like one of their outfits. and wings. and territorial behavior with a sensitive side lmao or everybody wanting to 'seal' and lock them away for being chaotic/trouble makers aldkjaldkjf - anyways you get it! wiz and dark even within dnangel canon are supposed to be pretty unique weirdos already, wiz is more like shaymin status (a la there's only ever like One Around) which i also think suits him a little better than an eevee would too -

^ you can see what i mean right. KDSJLDKJG GOTH SHAYMIN TO CANON'S PASTEL. these small transformers mammals can kick it into FLIGHT MODE. but i can still totally see dai loving normal types overall like smeargle and eevee!!

in canon the way that artworks fill up dai's house as dark collects them i can see him basically filling up his mansion with all sorts of pokemon that are only 'his' in a kind of a distant and territorial, royal sense- canonically he gets artworks that are / can turn into a small bird (towa, maybe a natu given the psychic/supernatural 'guide to eternity' thing she has going on, or a swablu/altaria since it fits her aesthetic more?) a snake, (or a gecko, that's argentine, there's plenty of pokemon for that,' and a whole ass dreameater-tapir for baku, (drowzee and musharna are both RIGHT THERE) so if we're going canon-wise, i'd give him those!!! i love him slowly building up his found family of little weird guys who he loves and who love HIM very much, + again it elevates the whole giratina fragment/noble ruler of another realm/burdened boyking bit. otherwise, i've always used a clefairy(not a clefable! not! a! clefable!) to represent daisuke and still a gengar to represent dark. dai just has a fairy type affinity in general alongside his normal type behavior since he's a fragmented fairy tale mc. give him a mimikyu or impidmp or something. if anything i think the ghost types as a whole fit dark very well too - mostly in lore.
