Why YOU should watch Legend of Lin Ye
If you're a SVSSS fan, here's a run-down:
Is Xian Zun Whitewashed Today? / Legend of Lin Ye is basically a Scum Villain's Self Saving System drama adaptation. A guy reads a webnovel, hates the ending and gets transported into the story to "fix" said ending. He becomes the story's "villain", aka an immortal master, who is also the main character's teacher. Oh, the main character is also a demon-thing. The guy gets points each time the MC falls more in love with him. LoLY (both seasons) is around 2.5 hours long in total.
Now that you've seen the summary, here are VISUALS where you can see the similarities:
(spoilers for both SVSSS and Legend of Lin Ye ahead)
I seem to have stumbled, half-naked, into your bed, oops!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Admiring him at the table.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Defending his student.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Protecting his fellow sect leaders from his student.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Binghe and A-Ye, that's it, that's the post.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Getting lost in a new city and following someone around.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hand-holding as they run away together <3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
THIS. ENOUGH SAID.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nooo Shizun, your hand is bleeding!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Holding him as he (fake) dies.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Killing your own student! (real)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and MANY more! Yes, even the System is there, and she talks a lot more! Original A-Ye and Bingge both torture and kill their original teachers. A very weird attempt harem is also there, and, just like Binghe, A-Ye doesn't want it, either. The 5 (actually 2) year gap between Binghe falling into the abyss and meeting SQQ again is actually 10 YEARS! in Legend of Lin Ye (yes, A-Ye also falls into the abyss). A-Ye doesn't give Xian Zun his blood, but he does give him a BUNNY! S.A. is not a topic in LoLY. A-Ye is just as jealous as Binghe. Xian Zun is allowed to be a lot more OOC (there's also like a points shop). Xian Zun is not scared of A-Ye (A-Ye wishes he was, bc he annoys him lol). XZ & A-Ye don't get stuffed in a coffin, but they do get stuffed in a human-sized bird cage. XZ does, at one point, have a nightmare about original Wu Ye killing him. Xian Zun is pretty good at not self-destructing. Xian Zun and SQQ both have fans, yes.
That's all I can think of for now. Feel free to add more in the reblogs/tags/replies. I'll also reblog if I remember more things.
Hoping for season 3 ❤️

shut UP I fucking LOVED Eragon as a teenager!!! I got an early kindle for a birthday and my first book on it was Inheritance when it was newly out. I re read them within the past couple years and was fully crying at the end of it because I will never be over it
YES everything about the chrysalis, yin-yang seats, different qi types is so great to explore. The no bullshit, raw perspective of the book had me hooked. I honestly stayed up way too late finishing it, I want the next book on my shelf already (also from the beginning I was like 😭😭 for the hunduns)
I really think you'll love She Who Became The Sun, I'm so intrigued for the sequel but im not gonna spoil anything for you so ill leave it at that. It is next on my to read pile (I decided to give Iron Widow a whirl first before continuing with that world and I'm so glad I did)
If you have any recs within the realms of Chinese theology let me know bc I'm having a great time within this genre space.
I'm using an app called Storygraph to log my reading this year and I reckon you'll love it, you get the coolest breakdowns and stats. I was drawn in by their 2023 wrapped stuff as they did a 'mood map' graph that showed when the reader read lighter/darker works throughout the year.
And I will be taking you up on that first dibs 🫡
(sorry if many words and not much tense, I am Tired™)
I cannot explain how many times I have re-read The Inheritance Cycle. It's up there with books like Lord of the Rings for me in terms of fully-done, well rounded and crafted fantasy. I saw Murtagh came out recently and I really need to go get it!
Adding a read more cause this is lengthy!
Some books I think are within that space:
Daughter of the Moon Goddess by Sue Lynn Tan - It's a romantic fantasy inspired by the legend of the Chinese moon goddess. I thought it was super fun and a very easy read.
A Magic Steeped in Poison by Judy I. Lin - This is SOOOOOO cool - the world building is fascinating and is full of legends about tea magic
The Poppy Wars by R.F. Kuang - Literally in my top five favorite series of all time. This series is beautiful and devastating and has amazing themes of like colonialism etc.
Babel by R.F. Kuang - An amazingly cool magic system and VERY loud themes of colonialism and racism and it's effects on the world - this was SO good.
Books that are not Chinese theology drive but have Asian theologies:
Sword of Kaigen by M.L. Wang - THE BEST BOOK I READ IN 2023 HANDS DOWN. It is inspired by Japanese theology, legends and samurai culture and it is BEAUTIFUL. An excellent read.
The Greenbone Trilogy - This is sort of an amalgamation of different Asian cultures but is SO GOOD. It's an Urban Fantasy criminal fantasy family story and the politics and especially the geopolitics of like cultured vs. white countries in the second book are REALLY good.
I have a few others on my list that are on my shelf on my to be read list like Spin the Dawn, Jasmine Throne, A Hero Born, Shadow of the Fox and The Red Palace!

War Damaged Prince - New Year's JZEU Series (4)
Following up yesterday's valiant Lin Shu is today's battle-scarred Prince Han Ye.
The inspiration for this worse-for-wear gentleman are these gorgeous shots of Gong Jun for An Le Zhuan:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You'll note that none of these beautiful pictures show him battle-damaged. I guess we'll have to wait to see that when Legend of Anle airs. I'm ready! Anytime! I can't wait.
Tumblr media
Our sweet prince arrived with his trusty spear alongside him. I tried to slide the shaft of the spear from the top of his hand, which looks pretty straightforward, right? No dice.
I tried wiggling the spear in a bit, warming up his little hand in hot water to make it more pliable, and then soothingly patting it. Nope, nope, and also nope. That spear wasn't fitting in for anything. Dearest reader, if you don't think I didn't suffer heart palpitations at the thought of having to snap in another weapon into another Han Ye's hand, well, you haven't read the high-stakes high-stress post called Han Ye with Sword. YEESH.
Since this fig is PVC, I took a very deep breath and a leap of faith, and pushed the spear in from the side. To my everlasting relief, it snapped right into his steely grip with no damage to it at all.
Thank goodness. I know I love me some battle-worn figs, and I know war is hell, but I like all limbs attached!
Tumblr media
This is a terrible upshot angle of a beautiful fig. It's oddly somewhat reassuring that Han Ye and myself both don't look our best when photographed from underneath. Pics from up under the chin just never look great, it's true.
Tumblr media
There we go - that's better! Much like yesterday's Lin Shu, we have some incredibly detailed fig armor, a flowing cape, and an resolute yet concerned expression. Speaking of concern, you can see how he's holding the spear here and why I was so worried about that little thumb there myself.
Tumblr media
This is a good angle to see the tiger? lion? mystical beast? heads on his pauldrons. I love this detail so much!
Tumblr media
Han Ye's hair in the picture is fully tied up and isn't half down like it is here, but it's such a great look that I'll never complain!
Tumblr media
I continue to like the billowing motion on these fig's capes.
Tumblr media
You'll notice Han Ye is standing very straight with impeccable princely posture. He's not exhibiting the slightest bit of Fig Forward Lean (tm) that we sometimes see to help offset the weight of that big ol' head. Unfortunately, this makes him tip right over backwards when standing. You can't see it here, but I've put a tiny bit of museum putty on the soles of his boots in order to keep him upright to take pictures.
Tumblr media
I love the detail of his billowy pants under his robe and armor!
Tumblr media
His beautiful golden guan has some nice detailing. You can also see the artful blood splatters over his noble brow.
Tumblr media
It was a little difficult to get my camera angled right for this shot (the most amateur of amateur photographers indeed!) but I wanted you to be able to see how the armor detailing goes all the way around under the cape. Just beautiful.
Tumblr media
Speaking of which, here's an extreme closeup so you can see all the wonderful detail, and of course the wonderfully tragic expression. And his ear mole!
Tumblr media
I never noticed that Han Ye is closing his eyes in the box card photo. Interesting. He looks noble and pained at the thought of the battle ahead, which is right and proper! Certainly not looking forward to figs all dueling it out like uh, certain blogging figthusiasts. Whoever those, uh, might be.
In totally unrelated news, I'm looking forward to the War of the Figs display case I am planning out - I have every war-wounded, battle-beaten, PVC-blood adorned fig out there and oh boy am I excited to have them face each other down! It's gonna be amazing once it's all put together.
In one display case - figs on desserts and pastel-candy colored sweetness. In the other? Fig carnage!
Tumblr media
Again, more beautiful box art. I really don't know what I'm going to do with all my boxes. I can't bear to throw them away, but they're definitely piling up.
Material: PVC
Fig Count: 256
Scene Count: 19 (the roof doesn't count! It was borrowed from the Moonlight on the Roof is Beautiful Tonight post)
Rating: Brave and beautiful
