J2 Main Panel Indycon 2022

Jared arrived at the panel riding in his scooter from the night before, he was so excited about it it was adorable. Jensen was also supposed to ride his scooter in but sadly it shut down so he wasn’t able to; Jared says he and Jensen switched hair styles for the con that he has the Dean hair and Jensen has the Sam hair then he tries to like imitate Jensen’s smolder and says Jensen has dragon eyelashes 😂

Kicking things off, the first question is: now that they are no longer playing Sam and Dean do they find themselves having Sam and Dean mannerisms or thoughts? For example if they see lights flickering.

Jared says he would be lying if he said he hasn’t thought “I'm on it” when seeing lights flickering and proceeds to tell the Driskill hotel story. Jensen says he’s currently staying at an airBnB in NOLA because of The Winchesters and the house he’s at is a really old house, and he tells that while he was having a meeting on Zoom he kept hearing something creak behind him and he notices this little closet door was opening and shutting. He thought it was one of his kids messing with him so he stood up to check but there was no one there. He closes the door again, starts to walk away and the door opens again! So he looked at it and went, “really? are we doing this?” and the door closed back shut. He had turned off his Zoom camera while he was checking so he turned his camera back on and grabbed his laptop to show the people of his meeting and he was all “cool right? Ghost!" but the people of his meeting were like 😳 and asked if he wasn’t scared and he said that no, why would he be? He has 15yrs of experience under his belt. x

What has been their favorite birthday celebration? Jared says he enjoys other people’s birthday more than his own, that he has a pretty big one coming up and G asked him what he wants for it and he replied he wants a nap. Jensen mentions the surprise birthday parties for his 40th. Now, we had previous knowledge of this event, and Jensen has mentioned it before but there is one new detail and that is Jared's involvement. You see before, the story was put in a way as if it was all D's doing with production, and Jared was just one more guest. But the way Jensen tells it now, the one who took him to dinner to the location where this surprise party was taking place was Jared (and Clif). Y'all do with that new info what you want. x

Asked what was Sam's day job after leaving the hunting life, Jared replies that Sam was still good at poker, still good at cards, could still make fake ID’s; the way he imagines it Sam didn't really go to work he found the ways to make ends meet while focusing on his kid. Jensen likes to think Sam was a temp guy just taking on different jobs.

Jared made a dad joke: 'what do the world's fastest marathon runners eat before the marathon? Nothing, they fast.' Not gonna lie that got a chuckle out of me. Jensen says the best thing about Jared making a joke is that no one laughs harder than Jared which is cute. x

What are their comfort meals? Jared says a tomato soup that G makes. Jensen says penne all'arrabbiata. Which Jared helpfully confirms! He says it's true that Jensen will order it all the time when they go to Italian restaurants. You and Jensen go to Italian restaurants a lot Jared? 👀

Jensen imitates Jared’s laugh. x

Can they put together a big entire series of bloopers? Jared says there is nobody who wants that more badly than him and Jensen. Jensen says there is enough footage to do that but first they’d have to find editors to be willing to put in the hours of work. x

What has been their most elaborate prank? While they have become known as pranksters they weren’t really pranksters, it was about making everyone laugh. They say they weren’t elaborate pranksters; they just liked to break the tension and make a fun, enjoyable, creative environment. According to Jared some of the best moments were when the crew would make fun of them, Jensen shares a story about one of the times the camera crew messed with him.

They had two cameras at all times A and B and with each camera comes a crew of at least four people: the operator, focus puller, dolly grip, and the camera assistant. The crew for B camera was more looser than camera A, and there was a time when the scene they were filming had Dean opening the door to a basement and go down the stairs, and during the first take at the bottom was their B camera crew completely normal looking up at him. But the second or third time he opened the door to find them all in their underwear and the camera operator with a ball gag in his mouth, but Jensen being so used to the antics on set didn’t react 😂

What was their favorite stunt? There’s a bit of confusion at first cause Jensen thinks the fan said stud instead of stunt, and Jared says Jensen is his favorite stud. We know buddy, we know 😏

Jared says his favorite stunt is the s4 jump out of the church window. Jensen’s is the reverse 180 in Baby. x

The next question is by a fan who has recently experienced a loss and ya'll I get that these men are super important to all of us but please don't use them as therapists especially when on stage. Jared talks about moving forward, that loss and grief is difficult and he doesn't think anybody has the answer but to not forget that whoever you lost lives on through you and to think about how that person would want to live on through you.

Jensen says it's never easy but how someone deals with grief is individual that there's not a bag of tricks or list of boxes to check off to get you to the other side that it's your own journey. He mentions he has dealt with some pretty big tragedy in the past 6 months but he chooses to celebrate instead of mourn, and tries to talk about and think about how that person enriched his life instead of focusing on them being gone. Says that's what helped him but it might not be what helps the fan, that it's up to them to find the journey they need to go on to help them and no one can tell them what that is but themselves. x

What were their favorite and least favorite scenes to film? Instead of saying a favorite and least favorite scene Jensen combined them and said that Dean's death scene was both his favorite and least favorite. Because it was so difficult and emotionally wrecking, but at the same time he was so proud of what him and Jared created. And Jared concurs. x

Were there any onset antics in their horror movie sets or memorable moments from those sets? Jared mentions the studio that burned down while filming House of Wax, that Friday the 13th which was filmed between s3 and 4 of spn he knew there were gonna be re-shoots so in negotiations he had to ask for the week of Thanksgiving off because usually they would only get Thursday so when s5 rolled around they were like 'we're gonna do that again', and that one time Derek Mears who played Jason in the movie showed up on set for a reshoot with a black eye really bruised up and when Jared asked him what happened he replied that he was helping his friend train for a UFC championship because he had a similar build to his opponent.

Also his key makeup artist on Friday the 13th is now his makeup artist on Walker!

And they tell the My Bloody Valentine story about going to see it in theaters. x

Last question! Okay so there was a lot going on when this was asked and answered but the question was when did they realize God was going dark? Not one to miss the opportunity Jared jokes that having known Rob for so many years and that tv writers start to write to compliment the actor they knew if they stayed on long enough Chuck was gonna be evil. Then he says that in all honesty the character of Chuck was Kripke's joke of Kripke and he could sometimes sound diabolical. The fan whispered something to Jensen and according to him she was asking if the beers were real, they say they can neither confirm nor deny that- I'm gonna provide two timestamps for this moment because the version of the panel I was watching which is the one linked below, the audio is not that good in this part so I'm also providing an alternative x x
