Started reading archived versions of the Naval Chronicle and everything makes perfect sense now actually. I can see exactly how this led to both Hornblower and the Aubreyad

#the way they describe battles. the way they describe the social scene. the way they describe medicine. the way they describe the ocean #there's literally a poem in one of these #there's hydrography. there's music. there's love letters #you have SO MUCH to draw on as a writer no wonder both o'brian and forester went to town on this #absolutely insane. all my questions are answered goodnight #(to clarify i did know that this was a big influence on forester at least. i was just not quite prepared for how much)#perce rambles #aubreyad #hornblower #<- y'know what. go wild lads
