Get Healthy, Glowing Skin With These Top Tips

Get Healthy, Glowing Skin With These Top Tips
Taking measures to prevent skin problems before they occur is always the best course of action you can take. Even so, sometimes things can get a little out of hand. In that case, it is best to be armed with a few additional tips. Don’t just know how to keep your skin looking healthy, know what to do when something goes wrong.
If your skin is easily irritated, do not take it for granted that a skincare product that claims to be “for all skin types,” actually is. Instead, read the list of ingredients and avoid buying and using products that contain common irritating ingredients like camphor, menthol, witch hazel or citrus oils.
For extra soft and moisturized skin, spritz your body and face with a water bottle before moisturizing your skin with alcohol-free lotion. Make sure you don’t use hard water. Along with its normal moisturizing abilities, the lotion also works to lock the water in to keep your skin exceptionally soft and youthful looking.
If you want to get beautiful skin, try anti aging skin products. These products will help cover up or reverse the look of your skin which gives you a more healthy glow. These products help your skin to produce more collagen than your natural body would do.
While taking care of your skin at any age is important, it is necessary that you start a skin care regiment when you are young. If you protect your skin from a much younger age then the deeper layers of skin will remain in tact, giving your younger, healthy looking skin for much longer.
Having a clean pillow that you sleep on every night is a good way to keep your skin clean. The oils from your face get on your pillow, and sleeping on that night after night will leave you with a case of acne that is very easy to prevent by just using clean sheets.
Try to avoid touching your face excessively. Your hands tend to be covered in oil and other grime and too much contact between your hands and face can leave your face oily, clogging up your pores and leading to acne or other undesirable skin conditions. Washing your hands frequently can help to solve this problem.
You can prevent stretch marks on your skin during pregnancy by maintaining a good diet and exercise routine. If you can avoid storing excess fat, you can avoid stretch marks on most of your body. There is no health risk to your baby as long as you avoid strenuous exercise and balance your nutrients. Of course, you can still get stretch marks around the belly while using this method.
There are some vitamins that you can take that will improve the condition of your skin. Vitamins E and C do a wonderful job of calming the tone of your skin. Taking both of these vitamins together gives your skin the ultimate calming effect. You can get these vitamins from many different types of foods, such as oranges and sweet potatoes.
Those were just some of the many methods out there for keeping your skin looking great. When your skin is not looking ideal, try not to just shrug it off. You can always do something about it. Remember that for nearly every skin problem, there is almost always a solution.

After a quick Instagram Poll on whether I should do a colourful makeup look or a skincare post, skincare came out on top. So here I am, about to reveal all my skincare secrets and I promise you’ll be genuinely surprised.
You’re probably expecting me to have some elaborate ten step daily routine that takes me at least an hour to complete, after all I am a beauty blogger and stay-at-home wife who’s skin (if you knew me back in my high school and uni days) magically cleared up after I turned 21….
Well, no.
There’s no magic to this story at all. Part of my skin issues was hormonal (teenage acne) and the other part was simply bad skincare habits. Now, I learnt that less is more.
In fact my daily morning routine is all of two steps…
Cleanse and Moisturize. That’s it.
Step 1: Cleansing
First of all, let’s talk products.  I started using facial products around high school because I’d developed teenage acne and ultra sensitive skin. Needless to say, I’ve tried it all. I used the crazy expensive products as well as the over the counter products. I ended up completely drying out my skin and making my acne even worst. Eventually, I had damaged my skin and ended up with a seriously oily T-zone and extremely dry cheeks with dark pigmentation marks from scarring.
Then I stumbled across a simple, natural and nourishing range that transformed my skincare routine completely. I tried out a bunch of samples that someone handed me at a mall one day from Charmzone (a Korean Company) and well, like they promised, I saw the difference while using the samples. So two weeks late, I decided to take the plunge and invest in the full size products. I bought the Charmzone Ginkgo Natural Foam Cleansing Cream ( which costs about $18 and R300), the moisturizer (which we’ll talk about later in the post and the Charmzone Ginkgo Makeup Remover Cleansing Tissues ($16 or R300) . It’s pricey but the products last me ages (I get about 3-6 months use out of each bottle) and work well so I decided it was worth it.
The Charmzone “starter pack” from left to right: Mask, Cleanser, Makeup Remover and Moisturiser
The Cleansing Cream is the most luxurious divine smelling facial cleanser I have ever used. It foams up into a rich, silky lather (perfect for using with a facial  cleansing brush) and gently cleanses without stripping my skin. Leaving it feeling squeaky clean and nourished which is a rare combination.
I ditched all my other makeup removers once I started using the Ginkgo Cleansing Tissues simply because where other makeup removers often smell like straight up alcohol and  leave my skin feeling slightly tingly and dry as the sahara (like I said, I have super sensitive skin) these tissues do not do that. They smell amazing and are super gentle yet somehow manage to remove all my makeup including my mascara. The most I use is two sheets at a time. Nonetheless, being someone who suffered with acne, I am always worried about breakouts so I double cleanse just to be certain it’s all off, meaning I use the wipes then follow it with my regular cleanser ensuring that there is absolutely nothing left in my pores.
Now to tools.  I use the Sorbet Sonic Pro Facial Cleansing Brush (Available at Clicks for R899. Sorbet is a proudly South African Brand and I opted for this one over the Clarisonic because it works out way cheaper, it was much much easier to get my hands on it and well, I love supporting local brands when I can) which comes with three brush heads (one for  daily cleansing, one for sensitive skin and one for exfoliating). I use the daily cleansing head most days but switch it out for the exfoliating head at least once a week. On days when my skin has been exposed to a lot of sun or to remove any masks, I opt for the sensitive brush head so that I can cleanse without causing any damage to my softened/sensitive skin.
Step 2: Moisturizing
So now, we’ve talked about my cleansing step now to my super simple step. For moisturizing during the day, I use another Charmzone product for both day and night. For this step I use my favorite miracle product, The Charmzone Ginkgo Natural  Emulsion ($32 or R500). The emulsion is rich and yet it absorbs easily into the skin. It almost feels like a moisturizer, toner and essence all in one. The scent of the moisturizer combined with the cleanser earlier always leaves me feeling like I just had a spa day facial.
For more information on the product click on the leaflet below to go to the Charmzone website for a full breakdown of the products.
The only extra item in my every day routine is an eye cream at night. I use the Farmasi Night Eye Cream (I can’t give you a price for this because for the life of me I cannot find this any more besides on Turkish websites that I don’t understand, but I guestimate it to be about $5) If anyone knows where I can get more of this please feel free to let me know because I love that it’s affordable yet feels extremely high end. It’s just thick enough to be extremely moisturizing but not to sit on the skin in a thick gluggy layer. ( I hate thick, gloopy moisturisers and creams sitting on my skin. It always feels like my skin can’t breathe)
Masks and Sprays that I sometimes use:
Since I keep my every day routine so simple, I sometimes feel the need to augment it with a little something extra. In between my regular routine, just after cleansing, I throw in a mask at least one to two times a week depending on what my skin feels like during the week.
Hisilicon Balong
Sometimes I multi-mask (this is actually my favourite way to mask because it means I can focus different masks on different areas of my face to focus on the skincare needs of different parts of my face). My usual combination for this is The Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask  ($30 or R310) and the Charmzone: Desima Sea Kelp Mineral Pack (Wash-Off Type) . (You can check out my full opinion on these two masks by clicking on the links to my other blog.)
I also occasionally use the Body Shop British Rose Mask ($30 or R310) on days when I’m feeling super dry or my skin feels like it needs to be plumped up a bit. ( I will do full reviews of all masks I try out in separate posts so keep an eye out for this one.)
I love to experiment with homemade masks or sheet masks as well. Sheet masks are amazing for instant results especially just before a night out or an event. They’re usually packed with high quality, highly concentrated ingredients that seep into the skin and work fast to add the necessary nutrients. Each sheet mask is one use and usually specifically for a certain need like Kelp to cleanse or Honey to make ones complexion glow.
The last step I add to my otherwise super simple routine is  the occasional spritz of Mac Prep and Prime Fix + ($25 or R320) during the day (even if I’m not wearing makeup as it adds a slight glow) or Avène Thermal Spring Water ($18.50 or R119)  just before bed on super hot days to cool down and sooth my skin after a long day in the sun.
And that’s it.
Naturally as a blogger, I’ll occasionally test out a facial oil or serum or new moisturizer  just out of sheer curiosity but so far nothing has wowed me enough to make it into my regular rotation.
Quick Tips:
My parting advice is keep it simple and easy so you’ll stick to a regular routine, if  you have nine steps and a whole range of products to your routine and you only have half an hour every morning to get done and get out of the house, I guarantee you’ll never stick to the routine not to mention how quickly it will become unsustainable and ridiculously expensive to keep up with it. Sticking to a routine is the key to solving all your skin care woes as no product works over night and consistency is what produces results. You do NOT have to spend a fortune on skincare, it is unnecessary and wasteful. Find two to four products that truly work for your skin and stick to it.
Next, always pat your skin dry after cleansing (never ever rub as this damages the skin), massage moisturizer upwards as this will leave skin looking plumper and help avoid future wrinkles and use your ring finger to pat in eye cream (as this is the softest pressure you can apply which is important as the skin around your eyes is the most sensitive).
Lastly, avoid too much sun exposure as overexposure causes skin to dry out and damage (some people love using sunscreens, I on the other hand find that I break out when using one every day so I only ever use one on days when I’m going to be in the sun for a while. I use the Charmzone Albatross Powder Sun SPF 41  $17.50), identify anything in your diet that doesn’t agree with you or causes breakouts (for me it’s bread, too much sugar or over doing it with spicy foods) and get a good nights sleep.
Now, I am truly out of special skin care secrets to share…
Keeping Sweet and Simple,
Ra’eesah
All Charmzone products are available on Amazon and at the Face Shop. There is a stockist in Botswana as well (email me for details).
My Easy Peasy Skincare Routine… After a quick Instagram Poll on whether I should do a colourful makeup look or a skincare post, skincare came out on top.

But it is not an overnight miracle. The flawless, blemish and acne-free skin that you've always desired is no more a dream, but a reality. Browse through our beauty secrets, tackle your skincare issues and follow our tricks regularly to get beautiful skin naturally. Excited, happy or stressed, it's your face that gives you away. Ever wondered how to get a glowing skin? We've rounded up expert skin care tips for keeping blemishes at bay and enhancing your natural beauty. Whether you have time for intensive skin care or not, pamper yourself by acing the basics.Lucky for you, we make face-care easy. 10 Dos and Don'ts for Beautiful Skin 1. The Golden Rule Do: Make sure you always (and we mean always) remove your makeup before hitting the sheets. The skin needs to breathe overnight. And makeup prevents that, as leaving it on overnight clogs the pores which may cause blemishes and/or blackheads. Don't possess a makeup remover? Just put some olive oil on a cotton pad and gently massage the oil onto your face to get rid of the makeup and dirt. Don't: Forget that exfoliation is indispensable. At least once or twice a week, exfoliate your skin to remove the layers of dead skin, sure to leave you with a more healthy glow and brighter skin. You can also apply a paste of walnut in powder form with yogurt to exfoliate your skin, as the antioxidants present in walnuts help remove dirt and promote radiant skin. Never forget to exfoliate your skin and remove the makeup before calling it a night. 2. Sun and SkinDo: Apply sunscreen with SPF of at least 15 that blocks both UVA and UVB rays. Since a lifetime of sun exposure can cause wrinkles, age spots and other skin problems, you have to protect your skin from the sun. Make sure the label reads ‘noncomedogenic' or ‘nonacnegenic' so that the product does not tend to block pores.  Don't: Skip the sunscreen, whether it's cloudy or cold outside (no excuses). If you're heading to a beach or around reflective surfaces like snow or ice, lather your skin up with some more sunscreen with SPF of at least 30. 3. You are What You EatDo: Keep a note of what you put on your plate. Eat fresh fruits, greens, sufficient protein and vitamins. A diet rich in vitamin C and low in fats and sugar promotes radiant skin. Consider a low-sugar diet, which can keep insulin levels down, allowing cells to maintain a healthy balance. "Don't: Eat spicy and fermented foods, salt, citrus fruits, fried food. Instead favour blander foods such as rice, oatmeal and applesauce”, advises American author and Ayurvedic physician, Vasant Lad, in The Complete Book of Ayurvedic Home Remedies. 4. Sweat It Out!Do: Exercise regularly. Running, jogging and yoga will give your body the necessary blood circulation, and also accelerate the cleansing process of your entire body. You will notice a glow on your face after working out. Racing against time? Just take a brisk walk around the block.Don't: Skip skincare before and after a workout. Apply a toner to help minimize oil production before heading out. Exfoliate after, and then apply shea butter or olive oil to moisturize the skin. (Also Read: Turmeric Powder for Beauty: How To Use it For Your FaceAnd Skin) beauty tips: Beauty Tips For Face: 10 Dos and Donts for Naturally Beautiful Skin Running, jogging and yoga will accelerate the cleaning process of your body. 5. Beauty Sleep Do: Try to sleep at least 8 hours every night. If you don't get enough shut eye, your skin gets tired just like you - it sags and you get bags. So don't risk it. You can also apply honey on your face twice or thrice a week to naturally soothe and heal your skin. "Don't: Forget to wash and moisturize your face before going to bed", recommends Dr. Rahul Nagar, Dermatologist, Max Hospitals. "For dry skin, use milder cleansers that are free from alcohol. Apply lots of moisturizer, and avoid hot water as it dries out the skin excessively." 6. H2O to The RescueDo: Hydrate yourself. Drink lots of water daily, at least 8 glasses if not more. Also, eats fruits and vegetables that have a high water content such as watermelon, cucumber, orange, strawberry, grapefruit and cantaloupe. Ayurvedic physician, Vasant Lad recommends to “drink water from a blue coloured bottle”, since it has a cooling effect.Don't: Ignore rose water. It helps prevent and reduce eye puffiness in the morning, maintains pH balance and naturally hydrates your skin if you spritz it on during the day. 7. Goodbye Acne“Do: Wash your face with warm water, three times a day, and gently massage your face in circular motions, ensuring that the cleanser contains alpha hydroxyl acid or beta hydroxyl acid. Face packs that contain multani mitti (fuller's earth) work really well too. After cleansing, pat dry and apply a lotion which contains benzoyl peroxide”, suggests Dr. Zaheer Ahmed, Dermatologist, Max Hospitals. Benzoyl peroxide appears to be effective due to its antibacterial actions. Don't: Pop pimples because it can lead to more swelling, redness, and even scarring. Feel a pimple is on its way? Just clean the area with rose water, and place a chilled green tea bag for 10 minutes. Also, if you wear glasses or sunglasses, make sure you clean them frequently to keep oil from clogging the pores around your eyes and nose. beauty tips: Beauty Tips For Face: 10 Dos and Donts for Naturally Beautiful Skin Never pop your pimples. Use rose water or chilled green tea bags. 8. Go Back to Your RootsDo: Use Ayurvedic scrubs to nourish the skin, and help it breathe better. Luckily for you, everything you need is already in your kitchen. 2 tbsp chickpea flour, ½ tsp turmeric powder, a pinch of camphor and sandalwood with some rose water/milk/water is your perfect skincare pack. Yes, the secrets of beauty lies in ancient Ayurveda.Don't: Neglect the basics. Make Sudarshan Kriya your beauty mantra. Yes, it's that easy. Just breathing right could rid you of spots and pimples. Nidhi Gureja, Art of Living, says “Sudarshan Kriya is a breathing technique which incorporates specific natural rhythms of the breath that harmonize the body, mind and emotions. This helps releasing accumulated stresses, and each individual's experience is different.” 9. Spa Day Everyday? Do: Have a regular skin care regimen. “For dry skin, use a fresh cherry mask. Apply the pulp of fresh cherries on your face before going to bed. Leave for 15 minutes and wash with lukewarm water”, adds American author Vasant Lad.Don't: Forget to pamper yourself. A gentle facial massage with oils could work wonders. Depending on your skin type, choose oils from mustard, coconut, almond or Kumkadi as they are excellent nourishing agents which help to get glowing skin. Better still – switch on some soothing instrumental music. After 20 minutes, what do you have? Beautiful skin and a relaxed you. 10. Healthy HabitsDo: Take out time for yourself, and try to avoid stress as much as possible. Have you ever noticed that when you are stressed, you tend to break out more? This is because stress causes your body to produce cortisol and other hormones, making the skin more oily. Practice stress management techniques like breathing exercises, yoga and meditation. The more you meditate, the more you radiate.Don't: Neglect your jawline and facial muscles. For just 5 minutes a day, perform a few facial exercises. You can jut out your lower lip in such a way that wrinkles are created on the chin, then lower your chin to your chest. Another exercise that works wonders is to look up towards the ceiling and pout. It stretches out the muscles making the skin more firm. “18 till I die”, why not? beauty tips: Beauty Tips For Face: 10 Dos and Donts for Naturally Beautiful Skin The more you meditate, the more you radiate. You're dressed to perfection, yet you need something to complete the look. Your smile! While we spend so much time and energy on honing our bodies and looks, we forget to express our inner joy and happiness. “Keeping a smile on your face will help maintain the tone of your facial muscles and skin. People may say you look 10 years younger than you are!”, adds the Ayurvedic physician, Vasant Lad. Adopt healthy living with healthy practices to get the beautiful skin you always dreamt of. Do make sure that you do not go overboard with these natural remedies or you may end up harming your skin more. If you suspect something odd, do not shy away from consulting a certified dermatologist. Self-inspection is good, but sometimes you do need an expert advise to fix an underlying issue. Make sure you eat right, and take good care of yourself. A healthy diet is also known to do wonders for your skin, so never rule out those seasonal fruits, veggies and nuts. (Also Read: Turmeric Powder for Beauty: How To Use it For Your FaceAnd Skin) Running, jogging and yoga will accelerate the cleaning process of your body. Never pop your pimples. The more you meditate, the more you radiate.
