It's funny. I love answering questions pertained to my Death Knight Yakou AU, and I've still got plenty to answer (y'all really came at me swingin' today, I'll get to all the asks in due time). But, despite all these in-depth questions making me consider things I hadn't delved into before, no one's asked the most important question yet.
How did Yakou obtain the Book Of Death?
Realizing I didn't have an answer felt like I got hit by--got struck by--a truck (OW!). The root behind this entire AU's existence was a mystery to me! I spent a good half an hour spinning in my spinny chair as I contemplated different ways he could've gotten the book from the WDO, but they all led to dead ends. What if Yakou, being the rascal he is, stole the book from the vault while he was a trainee? Nope, can't get past Number One's defenses that easily. What if Vivia stole the book using his Forte to his advantage in order to give it to Yakou? They hadn't met beforehand, it wouldn't make sense. What if Yakou is just good friends with Number One and managed to persuade them to give the book away? Number One's identity should rightfully remain a secret, especially since this AU isn't about them, so no past relations.
All that time, I chased after a stream of thought in a circle. I got nowhere. However, this is an AU, I have the power to change the location of the book while still keeping it in a place that makes sense for it to be. So, I propose a solution... a dreadful, awful solution:
What if the Book Of Death wasn't in possession of the WDO, but instead kept by Amaterasu Corporation? With that train of thought chugging along, I reached the station. Alongside the letter detailing his wife's murder, Yakou was also gifted the Book Of Death by Yomi anonymously. Yomi surmised that when Yakou signed that pact out of desperation, he'd kill or be killed. With a death god in your control, what else is there to do? That way, it'd make it so much easier for Yakou to murder Huesca or become a target himself. Yomi would knock two birds out without even picking up the stone.
So, Yakou, I wonder how it feels to solve the mystery of your wife's death and reap the soul of Huesca, only to find out that you played right into the palm of your archnemesis' hand. If that isn't one of the hardest pills to swallow I dunno what is, and that's only pertaining to the events of chapter 4! Lest we forget EVERYTHING ELSE! *grandly gestures to the flesh-eating zombies*
