I've realized the mutual love between humans and dragons showing itself as mimicry of each other and I want to cry

#smudgy.txt #etherlan #IM FEELING EMOTIONAL ABOUT HUMANS AND THEIR RELATIONSHIPS W OTHER CREATURES RN OK #the dragon mage insitute exists to be a love letter to dragons #its believed that humans and dragons were very close at creation but gradually grew apart over time #(bc of human error is the common belief but its different depending on who youre talking to)#anyway the institute was created as a 'we havent forgotten you'#which reminds me of this village i thought of a while ago #they have an annual celebration where the whole village will head to their nearby mountain #to set up camp and cook lots of food and sing and dance and make lamps to light up the mountainside #the mountain is believed to be a dragon who fell asleep waiting for her human companion she separated w long ago to come back #long story short they never returned but shes still waiting believing they will #and when a person from the village found out she was there all alone they started bringing their family to visit #to talk abt the years events and cook and tell stories sing and dance etc #to keep her company #& over the years the group of visitors just continued to grow until it became a whole celebration #anyway while most ppl fear the dragons bc uhh theyre Scary there is still many who wish to say 'we remember you'. yknow

Pov you're Anika bronzetomatoes realising that you can leave a light on when you go to bed if you want to and that you can stay up late during summer vacation and it isn't the end of the world and you can drink tea even if it's late and watch old youtube videos and clip compilations if it makes you feel better and that there is no real "right way" to do things like this and you don't need to make things harder for yourself just because you feel like the more comforting option is somehow improper

Honestly it’s super fucked up that I can’t knit in when it’s relatively dark because full-room lights a too overwhelming for me right now but also I wanna knit :/

me, 5:48 am: hm. i wonder if the avatar firebenders could bend electricity

me, one google later: if azula atla read homestuck, she would be SO jealous of the psiioniics. she's among the best of the best of firebenders, and even she can only create or guide lightning — she can't control it. (she would also sympathize with vriska. obviously. that goes without saying.) yes, she would have an advantage because she can control all other aspects of fire. but at least privately, i think she'd focus on the aspects she can't master.

hang on. metal conducts electricity. wire. metalbending. might a metalbender and a firebender working together be able to control electricity? and yknow how lavabending is a thing? might there also be an undiscovered specialty of earthbenders who can control electrified or magnetic metal?

and on the topic of electronics. radio frequencies, including those used for basically all wireless electronics, are perturbations of the air. could a beyond-prodigious airbender — i'm talking leagues beyond where toph was for earthbending — control these?

and another thing! moving water can generate power. so can wind. so can steam. so can magma. another google has informed me that by the time of legend of korra, power is generated by lightning-bending. it is remarked in the show that the power plant is constantly looking for new workers, because this repeated lightning-bending is so physically taxing. it's also a relatively rare ability. why don't they take advantage of all of the other ways to generate power using more common abilities?? come on, sokka/varrick/mr. sato.
