hotaru tries ( & fails ) to stop the grateful smile blossoming over her lips from curving too high or stretching too wide, her fragile heart skipping a beat or two. ❝ thank you, adrien, but you really didn't have to -❞ she starts, even as she carefully opens the gift box. a faint pink dusts over her cheeks when she takes in the black & purple bag, slender fingertips tracing over the edges. it's very cute, and very clearly to her tastes.
❝ was i really that obvious ? ❞ she asks, a huff of laughter caught on the words. she remembers the study session in question - it must’ve been well over a month ago. so either adrien has kept this secret for weeks, or he was able to recall the way her attentions had drifted to this bag in particular. her blush deepens at the thought. before she can stop herself, the small firefly steps forward, reaching for his hand & squeezing once. ❝ merci. i love it.❞

Chloé bites her lip, feeling the sting of tears prickle at the corners of her eyes. But she won't cry. The last thing Adrien needs right now is her crying, even if it feels like he's drifting further and further away from her. Out of reach.
They used to be so close when they were little. She doesn't know what happened. Maybe the chasm had started opening after his mother died. Chloé couldn't pinpoint an exact time when things changed, but now it felt like an impossible stretch of distance laid between them — a distance she didn't know how to bridge, not when she didn't know what was bothering him.
If only she had reached out sooner. If only she had paid more attention!

He wouldn't want to do this all the time the way Ladybug && Chat Noir did - but he felt honored to be able to help them this time. I don't require heavy plotting, but if we're doing pre-established relationships that aren't handled in canon, I need to have some backstory on it - this goes for romantic, platonic and familial relationships. I just need something to go off of.
It takes a lot to upset me. But I do request you tag anything having to do with senility or terminal illnesses, such as Alzheimer's, dementia or cancer. Amnesia is not a problem! These topics are extremely triggering to me, so I ask that your posts about it be tagged as 'ash don't look //' or with the correct trigger warning. I have multiple variations blacklisted. Anything triggering that appears on my blog will be tagged as well.
If I see any bullying, drama or anything of that nature, I WILL unfollow and possibly block. I don't tolerate any racism/sexism/homophobia or anything of the sort. Don't be a bully!
I have no patience for petty, public drama. If you have a problem with me, please let me know and we can sort it out like adults. I won't participate in a public spectacle. I'm too old and tired for it.

hotaru thoughtfully sips her tea, peering at adrien just over the lip of the ceramic. it isn’t that he looks nervous, necessarily - but there seems to be an unspoken weight carried by his question. is he afraid ? the prospect of supernatural happenings or spiritual encounters hardly seems difficult to believe, considering all she’s seen. ghosts aren't exactly a ridiculous concept in a world of reincarnation & intergalactic traveling.
❝ i think it’s certainly possible,❞she says at last, picking the words carefully, as though trying to pluck tufts of clouds from the sky. she wants to piece together whatever answer will appease him without being intentionally dishonest.

For every leap Chat Noir does, Queen Bee goes just a touch farther, an inch higher; as if either of them need a reason to prove themselves to one another. Still, as Chat Noir narrowly misses slipping off ledge of a building, Queen Bee can't help but stifle her laughter.
What’s that smug look for? You think you can do any better?
Suddenly, their unspoken challenge is given voice and the blonde is more than happy to show off her prowess for just this sort of thing. A smirk pulls at her lips, stepping back as she stretches.
❝ Please — this is child's play. Step aside kitty-cat. Watch and learn how a real pro does it. ❞
Rolling her shoulders one last time, she waits for the other to give her some room and then she's running. Her feet lift off the ground as she reaches the ledge of one building. One leg extends outward, the other behind her, forming a perfect grand jeté as she soars through the air.
For a moment, it's as if she's flying.
Then, with all the grace that ballet has taught her, she lands one foot after the other on the neighbouring roof. Her face is full of exhilaration, adrenaline coursing through her veins as she takes a peek at her feline comrade.
He is, notably, silent.

Every part of her wanted to scream, to order him to stop and let it end already so she could do better things with her time. She hated being stuck here, wearing an itchy dress her mother forced her into, putting on a nice façade for the public so Papa would get the support he needed.
Enduring this campaign event was her own personal torture; but, at least she knew one face here. She glanced across the room to where he stood and could glean from his posture that he felt as bored and unnecessary as she looked. Without a word, Chloe bee-lined through the crowd and stopped by Adrien's side, arms folded.
❝ This is ridiculous. It feels like he's been talking for hours! ❞ she hissed, just audible enough for Adrien to hear without disturbing those around them actually listening to her father's awful, droning speech.

some quick portrayal notes!
this blog is considered canon-divergent past season three. this for two reasons: one, i haven't finished the show ( i am currently on s4 ) so if i get any information wrong or make headcanons that later may or may not be retconned, this is why; and two, i plan to explore a redemption arc for chloe because we were robbed of one.
in line with both @yinbug and @yangnoir's portrayals, the timeline between s1-s5 does not happen in the span of a few months. chloe is 13 at the time of origins, 14 through season one, 15 through two and three, and 16 through four and five. this will make her sixteen in my main verse.
chloe is a closeted bisexual/biromantic. a lot of this has to do with the status of her family. her father being a politician and her mother being toxic at best, chloe fears how she ( and by proxy, her parents ) may be perceived if she openly admits to having feelings for girls as well as boys. image is everything in her family, and chloe doesn't want to tarnish that — at least not when it comes to her romantic/sexual identity, so she definitely struggles with some internalised fears of rejection.
part of the exploration of chloe's redemption will include her focusing more keenly on her ballet. thus far she has been practising it for eight years and takes pointe classes, though it didn't become a very serious interest until she began to realise she needed to turn her life around. the discipline and focus needed in ballet, and especially pointe, gives chloe a much needed outlet for her frustrations and anger.
this will probably be expanded on/added to as i make my way through s4 and s5.
