It wasn't until the man turned, his attention snagged by a bird or a child calling out, that Jean was able to catch a glimpse of his face and confirm that the Master wasn't in the same park as him. Jean couldn't breathe until that moment, and as he regained an awareness of his surroundings, embarrassment took over.

It had been more than a year. He'd been a witness in court and had watched the Master be declared guilty. The man was behind bars. Jean had even gone to therapy for it. He had to remind himself of what Betsy always said, though: that it was never going to go away. Not completely. That it was a part of who he was, and that it would be something he would have to work on for the rest of his life.

He hurried to swipe away the tear making its way down his face, only to have to keep swiping at the tears that followed and slipped from the corners of his eyes involuntarily.

WIP Wednesday

Time to pick up @/kedreeva 's game again this week!

Did I finish last week's yet? No. Or the week before that? No. Do I still crave more excuses to write? Of course.

As always, feel free to send in multiple requests, even if it's for the same draft! keep in mind that that's just how I operate and not part of the official WW rules/etiquette, though! (aka please don't assume everyone is as desperate as me)

Anyway, for those of you who are new to the rodeo,

Here’s how WW works:

In a reblog of this post (so people can find you in the notes) or new thread (w/ rules attached) if you want to play on your own, post up to five (5) filenames of your WIPs; not titles, file names.

Post a snippet from one of them. Snippet must be words you wrote in the last 7 days. We’re posting progress here. If you haven’t made any, go make some and come back to play!

After you’ve posted, people can send you an ask with one of your file names. You must then write 3 sentences in that file. If the filename is one you can't share from (for example, an event or gift fic), write 3 sentences on it anyway, and then 3 more on another to share.

That’s it! You can invite others to join in, or just post. I’ll be searching the reblogs to find people to send asks to!

Jean wanted nothing more than to be able to scream. He wanted to tear every inch of short black hair from his head, or punch a hole or two in the wall.

But then he’d have to explain it all.

He'd have to be silent when Jeremy asked his questions. He'd have to steel his eyes and isolate himself in yet another emotionally locked cage of secrecy and resistance to vulnerability. And then he'd be even more alone.

His hands shook as he pulled his phone from his pocket and dialed Betsy's number.
