not that i haven't engaged in this myself in the past and all, but it is increasingly super weird to me when people base their assumptions of a person's knowledge and engagement with political events on what they post on tumblr or social media generally. like. i read the news daily and try to stay as up to date as i can on world events, but i don't post about it much on my tumblr because frankly it just doesn't feel like an appropriate venue for it most of the time

#tumblr in general is not i think a good platform for discussing serious world events or sharing them #it's the most unserious platform filled with the most unserious people #with a culture that invariably ends with these things turning into a holier than thou pissing match #'oh i see X isn't posting about Y event clearly they DON'T CARE'#'oh you're only posting about Z NOW when it's in the news well clearly that means you never knew about it before!'#idk it just feels like demanding people prove to you how virtuous they are #and i don't see what that really contributes productively to the discourse
