Saddle Stitch Binding

The two primary types of punched binding are wire and plastic coil binding, enabling books to open fully flat with the pages rotating 360 degrees towards the back. Firstly, printed pages are trimmed and then hole-punched before being fastened using a spiral coil or wire that is crimped shut.

Japanese / Stab Binding

Dating back centuries, Japanese or stab binding is a decorative technique where sheets are folded once at the center, hole-punched and sewn by hand along the spine using different needle and thread patterns.

Perfect binding

The process of perfect binding involves using machinery to bind softcover books, magazines and brochures. What is Wiro Binding?

Bookbinding or paper binding is an ancient art in itself. While most hardcover or softcover books from publishers are a common sight, there is another entity, known as Wiro binding. While the name may be unfamiliar to you, wiro binding has been around for quite some time.

It’s all around you Be it special notebooks, template pages, bound multipage pamphlets among others, wiro binding is all around you. However, it is often confused with another very common form of binding, known as spiral binding. You may have seen the ubiquitous notebooks that have spiralling plastic binders rolling in and out of the perforations on the pages. This is what is commonly referred to as spiral binding. You may then ask, what is wiro binding exactly?

Let’s differentiate As is evident from the name, wiro binding uses metal wires to bind books together. Wiro binding is considered to be of a more professional grade than normal spiral binding. The normal spiral binding uses plastic whereas Wiro binding uses metal wires; this is the first area of differentiation. Let’s look at some of the other features –

Spiral binding is used for material that needs to be constantly referred to such as notebooks. Wire binding is used for more professional applications such as multipage bound pamphlets, product manuals, professional operations manuals, guide books etc.
