Ruby Dandridge
Tumblr media
Dorothy Dandridge was an American actress from the early 1900s through to the late 1950s. Dandridge is best known for her role on the radio show Amos 'n Andy, in which she played Sadie Blake and Harriet Crawford, and on radio's Judy Canova Show, in which she played Geranium.
Born Ruby Jean Butler in Wichita, Kansas, on March 3, 1900, she was one of four children. Dandridge's parents were Nellie Simon, a maid, and George Butler, who was a janitor, grocer and entertainer. Dandridge's father was also "a famous minstrel man."
On September 30, 1919, she married Cyril Dandridge. Dandridge moved with her husband to Cleveland, Ohio, where her daughter, actress Vivian Dandridge, was born in 1921. Her second daughter, Academy Award-nominated actress Dorothy Dandridge, was born there in 1922, five months after Ruby and Cyril divorced.
In 1937, Dandridge played one of the witches in what an article in The Pittsburgh Courier called a "sepia representation" of Macbeth in Los Angeles. California. The production began on July 8 at the Mayan Theater. Five years later, she appeared in a production of Hit the Deck at the Curran Theatre in San Francisco, California. One of Dandridge's earliest appearances, thought uncredited, was as a native dancer in King Kong in 1933. Dandridge was also in Junior Miss (1945), Tap Roots (1948), Three Little Girls in Blue (1946), Cabin in the Sky (1943), and Tish (1942). Lillian Randolph, Ernest Whitman, and Ruby Dandridge of the radio cast of The Beulah Show from 1952–1953.
In 1955, Dandridge and her business partner Dorothy Foster bought land in Twentynine Palms, California, with plans to construct a subdivision of 250 homes. Also in the 1950s, Dandridge formed a nightclub act that played in clubs around Los Angeles. A review of her act cited her "flashes of effervescent showmanship" and stated "What Ruby lacks in her voice, she invariably makes up for it with her winsome personality."
Dandridge attended her daughter Dorothy's funeral in 1965.
On October 17, 1987, Dandridge died of a heart attack at a nursing home in Los Angeles, California. She was interred next to Dorothy at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Glendale, California. In the 1999 film Introducing Dorothy Dandridge, Ruby is portrayed by Loretta Devine.

Cummittees for we older folks who are liberal and interested
I like the idea of communties, especially for we older folks.
I was born in 1940. My mother married my dad in 1938, after I was born, WW II started, my dad moved us to Los Angeles where my dad tried to join the military and join the war, he was not allowed in because of his wearing glasses, and me. We moved to Las Vegas, a brand-new town building up out of the desert and near Hoover Dam, where he was an architectect and builder, and helped to build Las Vegas out of the desert floor. My sister was born there in 1943.
My dad was getting known as a builder, and a great help to building Las Vegas. He also build a building to be used by the Church of Christ, which was my mother's religious leaning. After WW II was over, in 1946, men started coming back home, including several uncles, my mother's brothers, and my mother told my dad she wanted to take me and my sister back to Corpus Christi, TX, to see her brothers, my uncles. I remember well the train trips from Los Angeles to Corpus Christi, and the many servicemen that were with us. Yes, they loved this little girl of about 5 years old.
After a while, my mother refused to return to her husband, my dad. I am aware that my grandmother was on my side, felt sorry for me as I was definitely my daddy's girl, but of no use. My dad, as a man, was taken up by a woman in Las Vegas, and being a man during those days, was caught up with her. As my mother has informed him that she was not going to return, and Joyce tricked my dad into believing she was pregnant (it was learned later that she was incapable of having children), my mother allowed my dad to get a divorce. The church threw him out. My mother that he bitched that he would not even send her her iron. My sister and I lost all our toys and things because of the loss of our home. We did own our home in a place called Huntridge. I remember the house and the toys and the tub of water when both Patti and I got the measles, then the mumps, one after the other. I remember it all.
Moving forward a many years, my mother married a second time, then they had two children, and Patti and I were left behind as being not his children. In the meantime, we had been led to believe our daddy didn't want us any longer. Patti was young enough not to remember him, but I wasn't, and I was definitely a daddy's girl.
My sister caught fire in 1957. She was burned badly (she did survive, but that is a different story), and my mother contacted my dad. I never got over him, though I was angry because I thought he didn't want me, and after I got out of high school, I moved to Las Vegas to meet and be with him.
Joyce, his second wife, was not a friend of mine. One of her sisters had a daughter Sharon, who taught me how to smoke. I got my first job in Vegas, and lived a pretty good life. But I started drinking. I had my first child in 1961, went back to Corpus, had my step-father theatren to rape me because I had a child out of marriage, and I went back to LV with my daughter. I worked in some of the casinos as change girls, started drinking, and ended up at a dude ranch outside the city where I was a barmaid and a cook, and lived there. I was really drinking by then, had an abortion, had a second child, and moved back to CC in 1964. By then the 60s movement was in full stride. JFK had been murdered, and I was trying to raise two children by myself. I had a good job, but my drinking was out of hand, I gave my two children up to forage, and took over as management of a merchant seaman's bar in late 1964. During the year of 1965, I gave up my two girls for adoption.
Drinking alcohol was my choice during the next few years. I was all involved over the war in Vietnam, drinking, sleeping around, and moving from place to place in 1968. I had had a child in 1967, gave it up for adoption, moved with a couple of friends to Biloxi, MS, got pregnanted one more time, moved to Wichita Falls, TX, had a seond child in 1969, and finally moved back to Corpus Christi, where I tried to find work. I got there, but I didn't stop drinking, and eventually found another job, which I lost because of my drinking. I went to work as a change person, stopped drinking in 1973 because of the alcohol, moved to Austin in 1975, and got real work.
I was at the University of Texas for well over 22 years, and also worked in radio where I programmed Celtic music, and because of the p roblems of women being discriminated against women, finally went into early retirement in 2003. I did some cleaning of apartments for a friend of mine, but when it became difficult for me, stopped, and moved into assisted housing in 2009.
I served on the Board of Directors, put up with a lot of changes of the apartment complex, went suicidal (fourth time over the years), got psysological help in 2019, had a nervous breakdown in 2020, then Covid came along which kept me penned up, wrote my autobiography. In 2021, I started drinking again. I drink my scotch every day, not enough to get drunk (though that happened once because of some music and memories coming together) and drink a few drams every day. I was going to quit smoking, but decided I don't want to do that.
I fight all the time for my rights as a human being, as a woman, for fairness for all. I am a liberal Democrat, support a couple of organizations that help people, and keep up with politics, to my sorrow. I have found Acorn TV and British shows. It keeps me calm. I take an antianxiety pill, in spite of mixing it with alcohol. I have overcome suicide attempts, a life with liars about my father, been able to have him as a friend before he died in 1984, and never been in love or tied myself to anyone. I am independent, survive by my own wits.
And yes, I fell in love with Sam because he is the man I might have been able to survive with half a lifetime (mine) ago. And no, I use common sense, and I know he can not ever be in love with me, and in fact, does not even know I exist. There are reasons why he moved me so much,
If these communities are brought to reality, I know there are other folks in my age group who would be interested. I expect to live a long time. In fact, I have overcome so many things that I believe I must be immortal.
I love this site. It has people who believe as I do, that everyone is equal, has the right for their sexuality, their lifestyle, their habits, their hobbies, their caring for the general population. I love you all, so don't judge me for loving Sam.
Could have used him when I was his age that he is now, and I am well beyond.
Comments and criticisms welcome. But be careful unless you have walked in my shoes.

.... that's. That's strange. My fathers last name is Irish and my mothers last name is German. I took her maiden name once I was old enough so now I can boast having the worlds most obscure surname (I am the only person with my name on earth. 😎)
-girlfailure
Fun fact my mom didn't know it was her last name until she was five, she thought her step was her father until her mom divorced him one day and she learned her actual last name was something else.
Also context on how southern my mom is, her mom was born in Wichita falls Texas and her dad was born in deerhorn Nebraska, Americans will get it I hope and she was raised in a random county in Arizona

ezra considers themselves as a broke artist. during his younger years, ez showed a liking towards writing. he tried writing poetry but eventually discovered their passion for writing lyrics for potential songs. none of those actually saw the light of day yet, as there are plenty of unfinished lyrics written in his notebook, but the hope to eventually release them in some way or form still lingers within the artist.
having his freedom restricted for most of his life, ez tends to rebel against any and all rules that potentially threaten to limit their freedom.
a couple years ago ezra bought himself a guitar and during the little free time he has, he dedicates to self-learning how to play with an intention to eventually integrate his lyrics in a few original songs.
although in most scenarios ez would place his needs above everyone elses, they wouldn't be opposed to lending a helping hand to those who would be in need the most. the selfish acts aside, ezra still operates according to their own dysfunctional moral compass.
a chronic night owl who during most mornings will be late to classes, thus ez makes sure to bring at least one energy drink to keep his system in working order during ungodly early hours.
──── 𝐁𝐀𝐂𝐊𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐘.
trigger warning: mentions of child neglect, alcohol usage, divorce, blackmail.
a chilly october evening welcomed you with open arms, proclaiming you as another child of the fall. a first choice that was made for you rather than by you. little did the baby you knew, that was barely the beginning of an excruciating, endless list of decisions attached to your name by everybody but you. soon enough you learned that not everything was as it appeared to be. especially in regards to your family. you started picking up a thing or two once you turned five. chaotic and noisy home environment quickly became the norm in the midst of all the repetitive fighting between your parents that kept the bitter fire alight at any given occasion. distress and uncertainty were just a couple of the main sensations that accompanied you during those unfortunate times and which you eventually found the proper name for as you grew older. yet no amount of bickering between the two adults prepared you for the final blow that took you by surprise at first, given your young years on this planet and the naivety that came with them. after years of disagreements bethany lewis had applied for divorce at last. looking in from the outside, that was the biggest and smartest decision your mother has made in her entirely life so far. the only one bewildered and extremely hurt was seven years old you. why would your mother leave you, of all other people, behind? david miller insisted bethany exiting both of your lives was going to be for the best and that she had it coming. but... had she really? did she do anything so unforgivable to be kicked out from the miller family permanently? that and countless other disturbing questions plagued your mind for the next decade as you struggled to accept the truth. not only had bethany left david, for very valid reasons, but she left you too. there were no attempts made to reach out to her only son and that was something you tried making peace with for the longest of time. and miserably failed every single time. anger and resetment filled you given that the woman was nowhere to be found and pressuring david was of no help either. even if he was to say anything at all, you knew better than that. once a liar, always a liar. it became crystal clear to you from young age that you will have to take care of yourself. how to do it was an issue for another day. you'd figure it out, eventually. you always managed to. you've managed to get through this horrific of a mess that was known as divorce, what could be possible worse than that..? being under the same roof with david miller was no easy feat. after bethany left, the house became permanently colder. and since there was no one else but you and david, he did not see any problem making you the scapegoat for every tiny misfortune in his already miserable life. you were counting months, days left until you turned eighteen to move out. at that point the lack of money and other necessities were the least of your problems. so once the time came and life had granted you your biggest wish at that time, you did not waste your time to pack your bag. the only obstacle now left... was your father standing in the doorway, a glass of rum in his hand and a digusting expression that sent shivers to every single bone in your body. a final ultimatum was dropped at your feet.
you were to pick an appropriate degree if you ever dreamed about being included in the fucker's will. given his status as a high ranking officer, the amount of cash you'll be eventually getting caught your attention and actually made you think. a few years of whatever study program to get all of david's money? the proposal sounded too good to be true, but it was not your style to pass on appealing offers. especially when it could accomodate your needs. so you went for it. david ended up sending you to west ham, where, according to him, you'd be getting a proper education and be closer to his older brother, sam miller. a babysitter was the last thing you needed, but it was going to be worth it. it was. you were sure of it. what else was there left to do but to convince yourself of the best possible outcome, anyways? there was plenty of negativity floating around as it was. the first four years of public administration bachelor program took a toll on you, sucking out all of the energy and hopes you had for a quick and easy solution to finish the studies. you barely passed your classes and on graduation's day you were ecstatic. the end was finally here. tangible at your own very fingertips. you were already planning to contact david the next morning following long night of partying, yet he managed to beat you to it. a phone call that very evening was received and with it came another condition. another demand. apparently master's degree was now necessary to secure a spot in his will. it was tricky to maintain clear head at that time, fury and impatience running through you. overly tight grip over your phone. this was starting to sound a lot like blackmail and you, for one, did not appreciate that. anyone who knew ezra miller were aware of the importance of freedom in their life. so someone trying to take it away was not going to be well received. so you declined. the days of you putting up with his bullshit were over. you hang up and decided to live your life the way you saw fit. the last four years felt like a big waste of time now so you decided to take time off the studies and try to find a job or two to maintain yourself. the first local cashier spots in various stores didn't provide you with much so you tried your luck applying fort an accountant position since you already had your degree. the experience, as expected, was awful, having you quit after first month and staying in your original spot at moxie's drugstore. the place was decent and the tips that you received once in a blue moon were uplifting your spirits. perhaps it was as good place as any to figure out what you want to do with your life. several years ended up passing and a feeling of regret only kept growing within. was the refusal of david's deal was a mistake...? did the fucker knew something you didn't? was this all you could gain from this life? the stain of paranoia soon became a frequent visitor as you kept replaying the events of your life and where it all led you to. there was a hidden desire to pick up a different program, something you were wishing to do ever since you were younger, but will there be a chance to get in? your current salary were nowhere close to matching the tuition fees necessary to get enrolled in the program, let alone finish it. but there was one option you could still take... a dirty one, but it could potentially get you where you were dreaming of getting. eventually.
so with a bruised ego you eventually reach out to david once more who had to bite you in the ass in return with his disgusting comments about how he knew you wouldn't be able to get far without him. through gritted teeth and clenched fists you listened through another of his lecture to make one final deal with him. master's degree for a secured spot in his will. the last and final condition. upon mutual agreement and david's promise, which you doubted was worth much, you decided to apply for the next level of public administration the following semester and found yourself surviving though it. one day at the time. at least this time the hell will be over in twice the time than before. it just had to and you refused to allow anyone or anything prolong this one for you.
──── 𝐖𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐍𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒.
ride or die / best friend ( 0/1 ) although there are days were people would notice ezra speaking more openly and sharing stuff, it will always lead them to confusion in the end as they later realize he had not shared that much about himself. but there is one person who went through thick and thin with them, saw him at their best and at their worst and still decided to stick by their side. the two of them went through some really challenging times together and ended up being each other's rock. it would be someone ezra met way before, either during childhood or after moving to west ham to start his studies. partner in crime ( 0/1 ) ez is no stranger to trouble. usually they are the one to seek those out and, if there are none, he will make sure to create a few. this person could also be in it for the gains and would be willing to share the wins whenever these two would embark on a new adventure. one of them is constantly 'on the hunt' for new opportunities to cause havoc around town, especially if they know they'll be able to get away with it and the other one is only one message/call away from executing a masterplan leading to some illegal activities. rivals / frequent annoyances ( open ) let's just say ezra is not the kindest person one would come across. as an opportunist, his needs are his #1 priority and thus would usually lead him to do things that might or might not put others at a disadvantage. perhaps he stole someone's parking spot at university grounds or 'borrowed' the book the unlucky one picked out for one of their projects because he just found it 'lying around' somewhere. whatever the circumstances, there are plenty who dislike him and some for very good reasons. definitely up for plotting these out if there is any interest! acquaintances / allies / 'clients' ( open ) during his years in west ham, ezra has built quite a reputation as being one of the rebels of the town. though they tend to stand out in a way where most rarely happen to notice him around. he often uses stealth and moves swiftly through places, knowing his exact destination. these people would be the ones who ezra had mutual agreements with regarding favors. maybe someone saved a spot for them at a lunch table during lunch at university and in exchange ezra did something beneficial for them. others could be known as his 'clients' - people who ezra usually sells drugs to / hooks them up with other drug dealers around the town. tutor / studying partner ( 0/1 ) ezra absulutely despise's his studies and oftentime does not put enough effort to get through with his classes properly. it soon became evident to them that if they were to continue with their studies, a helping hand will be required. thus, ez made a decision to seek someone out who could help him with his classes. it could be a tutor or a fellow student who'll be willing to put up with him in exchange of a future favor ezra will be willing to grant them down the line. also super open for any other potential plots, so if anyone has any ideas for plots they'd love to explore, do not hesitate to lemme know so we could figure something out together <'3

It's a good thing I like making soup! It seems like quite of a few of our friends here have been needing support as they have dealt with injuries and illnesses lately. Both Pepi, second from left in the photo above, and Michele, in the bottom right of the photo, really appreciated it in the last few days when I brought them food and spent time chatting with them.

They are among our group of friends whom I met at the gym the first year we moved to Barcelona. Also in that group are Montse, Fabio, Araceli, Constance, and Angie, pictured in the photos above at Michele's daughter Julia's birthday party a few years ago and my 70th birthday party (first photo).
Tumblr media
We are all great friends and we do a lot of things together, and with other members of the group, besides dancing in the Zumba class and riding bikes in the spinning class. We attend parties, go on hikes and excursions, and attend concerts and other cultural events.
Tumblr media
A few days ago I visited Michele at her home because she just had sinus surgery. She has suffered from rhinitis for years and this is the second operation she's had and may not be the last. She's feeling a bit better now and she talked about her plans to study reiki and maybe offer sessions to our friends. I haven't ever experienced reiki but I assured her I'd be more than willing to try a few sessions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pepi just had foot surgery so I visited her today and brought her two different soups and home-made muffins which she liked a LOT. Poor Pepi has had it rough for many years since her husband died of cancer and she became a single mom, raising their son alone.

Tonight we went to dinner at Vicens in the Eixample part of the downtown with Carolina and Michael, a couple who used to be our neighbors at our apartment building but now live in Sarria on the western side of the city.
Tumblr media
Carolina is Catalan and has lived in Barcelona all her life. She is a professor at the University and teaches Spanish linguistics. Michael is a retired OB/GYN from Kansas, where they live part time in Wichita. Michael is one of our only American friends here. He and Bruce play tennis together on a regular basis.
Tumblr media
Carolina and Michael met at the University when he was living in Spain on sabbatical after his divorce and she was teaching Spanish language classes which he attended. I met them in the elevator, as I often have done with other friends. It's not easy to make friends when you only have a few floors during the ride to get to know each other but I've made the effort and now we have a good group of friends in our building and even some who have moved away to other countries with whom we continue to keep in touch.

Motion Creates Clarity
How often do you downplay your own successes? I fail to acknowledge the magnitude of my risks and accomplishments often.
As soon as I achieve a goal, I just move on to the next, and this is something I am becoming conscious of.

My current location is on the West Coast in a beautiful region of Central California. A small college town by the beach. San Luis Obispo.

Within a few minutes, I can drive on the beach and sand dunes, go surfing, lay out on a beautiful public beach full of happy people, or park on a mountain top with panoramic views of the city and ocean while I edit videos.

This area is not congested and homelessness is far less prevalent than anywhere I’ve been in a long time.

This mission of “Adventure, Kindness, and Wellness” in the pursuit of freedom and self sufficiency sounds foreign and crazy to some. To others, it sounds romantic and inspirational. Few, if any understand a journey like this if they have not engaged in some form of parallel experience.

Just over two-years ago, I was at the end of a 7-year phase, living in the place that I wanted to be most in the world. Breckenridge, Colorado. One of the two most visited ski towns in America. See the Book of Mike G YouTube for more awesome videos!
youtube
When I moved there in 2014, it was still possible to own a home, buy land, build something, and create a middle-class life through hard work and consistent income.

Within a few years that dream became unobtainable. Even with jobs like grocery stocker paying $30.00 per-hour by the time I left in 2021.

Our housing economy and the community were changing quickly and in 2020, that process accelerated exponentially.
By 2021, our town of 5,000 residents had "lost" four-thousand housing units of all sizes to wealthy Air BnB and short-term rental owners from different states and countries… Housing for local workforce was effectively gone. Literally impossible to find. Thus the concept of a 4x4 camper that fits into a normal parking space and has room to comfortably work on my laptop.

Sadly, after 7-years living the ski town life, I had to return to my hometown.
Once I lost my housing as the result of my divorce, I could not find anywhere else to live and honestly did not want to live in that small town and watch my ex wife move on. I knew everyone, everyone knew me. It was just time for a new chapter.

I
came home to Wichita defeated, depressed, but out of debt with a couple thousand dollars in the bank.

I returned at age 39. After a few weeks, I stepped into the gym for the first time in years.

Here, I developed habits and made changes that will be beneficial for the rest of my life.

I had the opportunity to take my contract work for the world’s largest custom motorcycle manufacturer, Big Dog Motorcycles and turn that work into a full time job for the next year.
youtube
During a moment like this, if one chooses, it is a wonderful time to truly assess what you desire your life to look like.
If you ever find yourself having lost a relationship, housing, possibly credit and additional objects, it can be one of the most liberating feelings, if you take the moment to acknowledge the gift of freedom that you have received.

My intention was to stay home for a year, save some money, figure out my next destination and make the move.

I obtained my Cannabis Masters Degree from Cannabis Training University and began pursuing that as a career path, but without any real direction. Previously, I worked in the industry and thought it could really be a good sustainable career path.

It’s funny how much time, money, and resources went into my prior university degree in video production and journalism, yet I never found the place I fit into the world happily trading my hours for dollars to make another person, party, or business profit.

So, I got myself locked into a 1-year lease to work with Big Dog Motorcycles. I stayed home for a bit over a year, then my engine broke down and needed to be replaced.

During this two-year period at home, I spent hours upon hours daily, thinking about Who I am, who I want to be, and what purpose I will pursue with this moment of freedom in my life.

Remember, I was debt-free with cash in the bank when I arrived home.
Due to the engine replacement and taking a risk with a different friend’s business, which did not turn out fruitful, I was now $13,000 in debt on high interest credit cards.
Around this time, my mindset began to shift. Now that my eyes are open, I have been focusing on shifting from selling my skills and abilities to an employer to realizing all of my past challenges have been equipping me to pursue my own path if I can just find the right direction.

As a Video Producer of 17-years, I finally realized something so simple. I can make a legitimately sustainable career creating content for YouTube. The hard part is developing the concept, believing in myself enough to fully commit to the challenge, and being willing to see things through, even in moments of stagnation or hardship.

After deciding that I was completely serious about my YouTube career, I had to define my channel and content.

With much time and thought, I developed the concept of “Adventure, Kindness, and Wellness” Three things that are important to me in my own life and will be appealing to others who are also interested in similar pursuits.

If you delve into my first podcasts and live videos, you can see how much of an amateur I am in front of the camera, even with nearly two-decades of professional experience behind the viewfinder.

I was never interested in sitting in front of the camera in a studio and talking. At the same time, the adventure element that is supposed to drive everything was just not present in the flat, industrial conservative Midwestern city of Wichita, Kansas.

The clarity I sought was still far away. At the same time, I was 40, closing in on 41, living in my hometown for nearly two-years.
At this point, the reality of my own mortality started to become a prevalent part of my conscious thought process.

Around that time, I realized that if I didn’t have a drop-dead date for departure and a destination, another year could pass and I might be in even worse financial shape, or something else could happen that kept me locked into a place and life that I did not want.

So, without having ever been there, I chose Palm Springs, California for my Winter destination.

Next, the Redbull Imagination freestyle motocross event popped up on my Facebook feed and happened to land on the last day of September 2023. This was pretty close to the time I wanted to depart for my next adventures, and even though it is one of the biggest and most progressive Redbull FMX events in the world, it was only a few hours away from home in the middle of nowhere.

I bought my tickets and set this event as my drop-dead departure date.

So much has happened since that time. Make sure to check out my channel to see all of the adventures I have shared since then.
youtube
The point of this story isn’t to describe the adventures, but rather to explain how important it is to start moving, even if you don’t know exactly where you’re going.

At this point in life, I know I can be some thing amazing for myself and I have the ability to make this world a slightly better place.
I will be selling myself short and depriving the world of the gifts I can produce if I throw out all of the skills, experience, and fortitude I’ve developed… This is exactly how I see trading my hours for dollars to build something for someone else, literally throwing away my strongest attributes that I have painstakingly developed throughout my life.

What happens when a person like myself with this much experience and professional skills begins working for others? most of their skills and experience are disregarded.
That person is trained to follow directions, produce the result they are told, and use a small portion of their knowledge and experience. Meanwhile, all of their capabilities and strengths outside of those directions are not utilized, even if they are the most valuable skills the employee possesses.

When I recognized how much of my time and energy will go into selling myself to others for their benefit, I realized that I was disregarding my ability to do amazing things with my life for myself and for others.

The amount of work, stress, dedication, education, time, and energy that goes into seeking an employer is substantial.

I’ve come to the conclusion that in my life, I can dedicate that time and energy to my own pursuits… If I have the self discipline and dedication needed, I will be able to produce a far better outcome in life that will last the rest of my life, and it will only take a few years of hard work, dedication, and discomfort to get off the ground.

The hardest part is getting started.

Living in a world full of modern comforts, conveniences, and working for others while eliminating the need to figure things out and make them work, I see American culture turning weak, soft, and dependent. Not to mention depressed, unhealthy, and addicted.
One of my biggest pursuits in life is freedom.
What that means to me is that I am able to thrive without having to depend on an employer or clients to allow me the ability to feed myself and pay for shelter.
It means living beneath my means, owning land outright, and building my piece of the American dream with hands-on sweat equity instead of trading 30-years of my life for the currency to pay interest and taxes on, while not being able to save enough to comfortably retire.

Realizing that I am selling myself short following the directions of others for their profit, and understanding that life is getting shorter by the day, I no longer have time to waste, dreaming, thinking, and hoping while living a soft life full of comfort and convenience.

All of the comfort and convenience was coming at a high price. It was keeping me from moving forward and pursuing the man that I am capable of becoming. It was making me numb my dissatisfaction with alcohol, and it was not allowing me to become my authentic self.
Instead, it was forcing me into a mold that I was not suited to fit into.

This is where I do not give myself enough credit for what I have accomplished… Check out my channel to see all of the hard work I did to prepare for this new life I’ve decided to design and pursue.

I’m now on the West Coast, living in a place that I really like, making 4x the same income for literally the EXACT SAME JOB with the same company.

My location is perfect for my vision of parking my 4x4 mobile office camper in beautiful places to work on my laptop and shoot amazing, visually appealing videos.

By the time I began generating an income in California, I had accumulated several thousand dollars in credit card debt from the second friend’s business I wasted my time with, combined with travel expenses, and 20-days without income.

At the same time, I’m years ahead of where I could be if I stayed in my hometown with low income and a low cost of living. Especially sense my transmission is now failing and will also need to be replaced with credit over the next few weeks.

But…
Imagine if the transmission broke down in Wichita and I did not depart on the day that I set. I would likely still be there, working for so little that I can’t pay for the transmission or get on the road. I wouldn’t have the subject matter or visually appealing locations to capture content and tell my stories… Who knows, maybe I would have gotten myself a DUI or worse. (I’m 81-days alcohol free today, by the way.)

My path is still fairly undefined. It is coming into focus and I am learning more, while improving my plan, tactics, content, and online presence daily.

When I think about how far I’ve come over the last two-months, I realize how substantially vital this decision to move forward and risk everything I had left to put into this life truly is.

When I consider the monumental challenge of my failing transmission, I recognize that it is just another opportunity to build more fortitude, overcome a hard moment, and become even more dedicated to the mission that I am on.

Now, this challenge is part of my story that I am still writing. At the same time, I’m locked in. I’m on the West Coast, I have solid income, and even though I will be able to move on soon enough, I’m going to embrace this moment. Work hard, pay off the transmission and some additional debt, while continuing to create content, learn, develop, evolve, and pursue my mission of self-sustainable freedom with the theme of Adventure, Kindness, and Wellness.

When I think back to the moment that I chose the date 9/30/23 for my departure, I know that it would have been much easier to work for even another month before departure, yet I also recognize the substantial progress I have made on my mission over the last two-months, and in the long run, I believe that a single month’s progress is worth far more than the money I would have been able to save and dedicate to this adventure.

Now, my blurry vision of the future is coming into focus… Choosing a departure date and location were possibly the most valuable things I could have done for myself at that time.

Now, I am in a position where I cannot find a better path or option than to stay the course that I am on, sail straight through the rough waters of transmission troubles.
Along the way, I have come to the conclusion that I have a far FAR higher likelihood of achieving the financial freedom for myself on this path, than wasting any more of my precious hours begging employers or clients for work, or going back to college for an MBA.

When my mind finally realized the substantial limits of the career world, it became obvious that the world the Boomers experienced will produce less buying power in my lifetime, and basically no chance at a comfortable retirement if I try to do things the way they did.

When my mind was able to break free of the idea that I must do what education and society says I should, then I began to realize that every moment not spent pursuing my dreams, goals, and vision were moments lost that I could never get back.

And now, here I am on the coast, proud of the progress I’ve made over the last few months. Moving towards my dreams on a daily basis, and making good enough money to pay down debt promptly and free up more time and money to focus on my desired outcome in life.

If I didn’t set that departure date and location, I would not be as far along as I am now, even if this is just the very beginning.

So if you are ever feeling stuck or lost, take some real time to understand your personal mission. Choose an outcome and a time. Commit to it, even if it is uncomfortable, then take action. In the end, you will develop courage, self esteem, grit, and joy. True joy.
