it really does blow that i am not too good at infodumping or anything of the sort to begin with (if i do so it’s generally in a contained space that does not infringe on anyone’s ability to talk about their own preferred topics ie textposts or specific channels in discord servers, & i never do it out loud bc if someone interrupted me mid infodumping i’d just. whatever i get interrupted enough as is) but like the fact that my interests just suck shit doesn’t help like. gen’s shins. fanbase are nuts. ppl who don’t play are generally really like. méprisants. what’s the word. contemptuous? about it? which is fair bc like gacha game & lots of shitty worldbuilding but like getting reactions of the sort when u bring up an interest is never that pleasant so it’s like. cool i can never talk to anyone about anything
#perth.txt#i also don't generally feel heard when i do allow myself to infodump#i barely allow myself to talk about music i like...#ppl feel free enough to add anything they like to collaborative playlists#but like maybe two people tops i feel comfortable enough exposing to kpop#like outside of my friends who already listen to it obviously#& if i do expose others to it i always feel so fucking embarrassed idk why#maybe bc from the moment ppl have decided it's 'not their style of music' they'll never bother actually paying attention#& it's just. idk. whatever it feels like shit anyway#i like sharing the music i like which is probably why it feels so bad#but also bc of the way ppl who listen to kpop are perceived#like god it's just korean pop but no one is normal about it one way or the other#& no telling me 'infodump about ur interests Now' never helps!! it just doesn't!!#it feels like pity interest!! it doesn't feel like interest if ppl ask questions after i complain about this stuff!!#anyway... i'm just contemplating on this bc i was thinking about playing gi#but honestly the way everyone acts around it makes me so... unhappy when i play#which sucks!!! bc i fucking love the gameplay!! i love the music i have opinions on the characters & worldbuilding!!#but everytime it's brought up i just feel the judgement & just. god.#at least other ppl's 'bad' interests are... interesting & respectable. ?? i guess.#maybe ppl just take freedoms being shitty to me specifically though. bc i don't think ppl do this with everyone#sigh idk idk i'm just. ignore me

i replayed kz again tonight and managed to beat it in 4 hrs instead of 11 !!! which is rly cool imo, i think i got a max of like 50 deaths or less for the full run ??? i was just playing regularly but usin the prism blade for the cool blood effects, not in speedrun mode for the counter, and i managed 2 drag my friend into hyperfixation hell with me :} but also i have some thoughts and opinions im not rly sure how to compile in a meaningful way, so here’s the like. pure brain-down-on-blog post version under the cut. if this gets auto-tagged into the real actual tag for this game im very sorry for my hubris im just. thinking emoji
so id like to start this with the final boss makes me SO sad :( like yeah she doesnt have much dialogue but idk she just makes me so sad. she’s so desperate and she Knows shes going to lose and im just like. no!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you’re so cool!!!!!!! Please Be My Friend We Can Work Together. I Know A Guy :c like usually final bosses are like weirdly emotional for me but she was just SO COOL and realizing like WAIT THIS BOSS OPERATES UNDER THE SAME RULES I DO was just like WOW even if as i kept dying (and i think i spent like... 3 hrs on the final boss alone lmao the first time, i killed her on my third attempt this run which was very cool of me) i finally realized that she IS pretty repetitive and got all her patterns n variables down super easy, but like, fighting another null who Should for all intents and purposes be just as absurd and powerful as i am, and eventually being able to down her effortlessly, and then the withdrawal affects of the chronos kicking in as well, and its just like. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
dont even get me STARTED on that ‘to be continued’ like yeah there’s a dlc comin but the game mentions repeatedly that its just the first act which has me like OKAY. SPECULATION TIME (what am i speculating on? literally no idea im not even rly at the speculation phase im still in the WOW COOL VIDEO GAME phase)
and i rly like the dragon/fifteen but the first time i saw him i was just like. who’s this f*llmetal alchemist looking bitch ??? what’s he doin here?? go HOME and controlling him is AWFUL i hate the dragon tape so MUCH >:C but also he’s like. cool. i want to know more about him n his plot 2 take down Juncture n the government n whatever.
but also i was listen 2 Full Confession bc it’s just. what the heart wants rn. i need to be sad and caffeinated in order to get into the Writing Zone rn and then i was THINKIN like my friend mentioned while we were playing the dragon tape that the song that plays is very similar to Full Confession (which i had sent him earlier while i was losing my mind over the final boss) and then i was like. Hm. these are very similar but have such wildly different moods -- Breath of the Serpent is much more like. ‘you’re going to be afraid of me’ while Full Confession is like ‘i’m afraid of you’ and i think that the different Vibes from these two soundtrack bits about important Null characters is just like. WOW and i wonder how a version of it that was purely Zero’s might be. would it be more triumphant? more flat? what desperation or emptiness is in there that could be drawn out by this melody??? i dont KNOW and i can’t write music unfortunately but im just like AAAAAAAAAA
i also rly wanna know what snow has going on ??? like. shes clearly important. she is a vital npc. but Why. she didnt even rly do anything except Show Up???
fuck V. all my homies hate V. the motorcycle fight was a lot of fun tho i rly liked that section even if my therapist was mad at me afterwards
also i think elizabeth/the little girl is rly cute and the fact zero was just like. ‘hm. well guess i have a daughter now’ so fast w/ her (at least, with the dialogue trees me n my pal kept going down) and im just. So Hoping we can rescue her in the dlc :( i miss her so much and im so like. worried abt that like pls give me back my daughter you dumbasses i cant even read ur dialogue without my brain being like ‘yeah these r just squiggly lines, boss. gl’
i also want to believe that the masked men arent real (bc idk, it’s just easier for me to process that they’re the result of chronos withdrawal) but the problem w/ that is like. they definitely kidnapped elizabeth, and i want so desperately to believe that elizabeth IS real n that zero genuinely wants to protect her (and by extension, the part of himself that is still human)
ALSO THE PSYCHIATRIST i was just like. Okay. I Must Get A Good Grade In Therapy. n kept being nice n cooperative and helpful to this clown ass and then THAT ENDING ??? like i didnt even get the Bad Therapist Ending i was just like. fucka you! attacka you with a rock! (i do however want to try the therapist boss it sounds like a lot of fun) but i just. i hate him! he sucks! find a better therapist zero u rly need one im sorry for ur problems disorder :( like hes clearly a guy who just works for the government n wants 2 keep a leash on our man
n the contradictions, hes like. yeah ur killing everyone related to chronos so it can no longer be produced ♥ but dw ur special we totally wont just withhold chronos from you as soon as u finish ur tasks dw about it ♥ and its like. Hm. I Dont Think Thats Right !!!!
also i wanna learn more about what Juncture has going on??? what are they like. Doing besides poisoning water n making lighters ?????? it’s clearly a lot
also the art for this game is just so GOOD,,, like. i didnt rly notice a lot of the backgrounds my first playthrough bc i was just losing my mind the whole time trying to solve each puzzle but the second playthrough im just like. AAAAA. and the soundtrack? effervescent. groundbreaking. perfect. So Good
and the GAMEPLAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! oh my GOD i was SO vibing with it, the difficulty curve was kinda extreme imo but as soon as i started like. Getting It? and started looking at each room less like combat/fighting and more like a puzzle that needed to be solved it made it so much easier 2 get into the headphase of ‘okay how do i clear this’ and it was just like. YOOOOOOOO
and zero is just a lot of fun 2 play as. legitimately everything about him is just so ridiculous. his dialogue options? ridiculous. his design? absurd. the implications that hes like. 22 and just having the worst 10 days of his life? mood, buddy. this guy likes samurai movies and card games and mushroom pizza and has worn the same outfit every single day for who knows how long and hes also a war veteran, an emotionless serial killer and a drug addict. and hes 22 and 5′10. literally NOTHING about those traits make sense together but here he is, just Vibing.
i love him so much. im going to make a self insert oc that’s just giving him a friend who knows how to cook n is just like ‘oh wow, that’s rough buddy’ when hes like ‘i only feel alive when i kill people’ and conveniently knows how 2 get bloodstains out of things bc i think he needs that kind of person in his life since his like. therapist is conspiring against him n he keeps having 2 kill his friends
also, unfortunately, i want to get every achievement, which i feel like is going to become hld....2!! where i get all but 1 of them and am stuck at 96% for 2+ years >:T

Games In August (2020): “Demos, Demos Everywhere” Edition
Tumblr media
This month, I cope with the inability to purchase new games by playing a lot of demos. Like... a LOT of demos.
Tumblr media
DJ Max Respect System: PS4
What is it? It’s a rhythm game in the vein of Guitar Hero (except there’s no need for overpriced plastic peripherals)
What did I think? I think this is the first time I’ve ever mentioned it here, but I fucking LOVE rhythm games. Anyway, this was my most played demo, mostly because the format is 100 times more replayable than any of the other demos, but that’s burying the lede. This was pretty fun... not sure it’s the kind of game I want to play on a PS4 pad though.
Would I buy it? The answer should be yes, but the game was totally on sale all month and I didn’t end up buying it. It looks like fun, and I would probably buy it if it went cheaper, but probably not before looking at controller options.
Tumblr media
Shining Resonance: Refrain System: PS4
What is it? It’s an ARPG. Apparently it was originally a Japan-only PS3 game, with Refrain being a PS4 port.
What did I think? Nope. You know what I hate more than generic af JRPG’s and shitty harem animes? It’s generic JRPG’s with shitty harem anime plots
Would I buy it? God no
Tumblr media
Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom System: PS4
What is it? It’s an actiony platformer, strong emphasis on the action part.
What did I think? The platforming is a little weak and fighting enemies feels more than a little clunky, but honestly? This is pretty charming. It helps that the game lets you play in pig form (I’m always on board for anthropomorphic pigs)
Would I buy it? The normal price is way too steep, but if it ever went on sale, hell yeah I’d buy this
Tumblr media
Arslan: Warriors of Legend System: PS4
What is it? It’s Dynasty Warriors but with Arslan (which is apparently a manga?)
What did I think? The demo sucked and the gameplay is pretty low tier, even for a Musou game. Can you believe that even the DW8 engine can be made boring? (Before you answer, I can believe it. Because I don’t like DW8. At all)
Would I buy it? I actually wanted to buy this before but this demo completely unsold me on the game. I don’t want a worse Dynasty Warriors 8. I didn’t even like Dynasty Warriors 8 to begin with!
Tumblr media
Utawarerumono ZAN System: PS4
What is it? It is a Musou spinoff for some oldish visual novel series? I swear I’ve seen this series on TV before (back when I was visiting my overseas relatives a few years back)
What did I think? It seems pretty okay. As a demo, it’s perfect; it gives you just enough options, just enough replayability to leave you wanting more. But I’m not actually sold on the game’s systems, since it seems to be aping the Musou subgenre while replacing the strategy elements with more RPG stuff (and in my opinion, the best Musou games hone in on the strategy elements, NOT get rid of them). It’s a bold move, though I’m kinda interested to see if it works, just bc any Musou / Musou clone that has character switching immediately has my attention
Would I buy it? If I ever see it on sale, I’ll definitely pick it up because I’d really like to see the game’s take on the Musou genre really shakes out. Not sure I’d settle for anything higher than $20 though.
Tumblr media
Songbird Symphony System: PS4
What is it? It’s a platformer (oh no) but with rhythm game elements (oh yeah)
What did I think? Despite advertising itself as a rhythm platformer, I’m not sure it’s particularly good at the rhythm elements OR the platform elements, but it sure is charming. I will say that it kinda sucks that the game clearly wants to be a proper musical... but apparently didn’t have the budget for actual vocals.
Would I buy it? If I see it cheap, I won’t say no.
Tumblr media
Coffee Talk System: PS4
What is it? It seems to be a visual novel with some sim elements focused around being a barista. Also, it was made in Australia. Yay for Aussie game devs! 2022 EDIT: Okay, so apparently it wasn’t made in Australia. I don’t know what made me think that it was, but that was my bad.
What did I think? Despite being the least qualified person to play this type of game (what even is a ‘the coffee’?) this seems pretty neat.
Would I buy it? If I wasn’t currently abstaining from buying games, yes
Tumblr media
Cris Tales System: PS4
What is it? It’s a turn based RPG with time puzzles? Sort of?
What did I think? It’s a pretty little RPG with a cool looking lead and a neat premise that had me... up until it didn’t (i.e. when the demo crashed after almost an hour of gameplay). I know it’s just a demo, but if I’d bought this, I’d be pretty annoyed to have lost that much progress.
Would I buy it? Not sure. It looks fun but the performance is kinda bad (even ignoring the demo crashing, the game FPS runs pretty slow in certain areas). Idk I need to research the PS4 version, but I’m leaning towards no
Tumblr media
Disaster Report 4: Summer Memories System: PS4
What is it? ...I honestly don’t even know. The best I can describe this as is the Yakuza series if it was about surviving natural disasters instead of punching guys as Yakuza Jesus
What did I think? It’s jank, but it is *incredibly charming* jank. Seriously, I barely did anything in the demo but I was intrigued the entire way through.
Would I buy it? Oh god yes. Only on sale though. This is fun, but not “I can casually drop $90 in Australian Dollars for this” type of fun.
Tumblr media
Lost Sphear System: PS4
What is it? It’s a JRPG and it has an ATB combat system. That is all I was able to figure out on my own. Seriously.
What did I think? This has to be one of the worst demos I’ve ever played. You get zero context for the esoteric story and gameplay. I don’t really mind the esoteric story, since I have played a lot of demos with zero context, but the gameplay being this complicated without any explanation is just terrible. This is not how you do a demo.
Would I buy it? I don’t want to be unfair on the game, since it seems to have depth and I specifically take issue with the demo. But if I was someone who had less time in my life, I definitely wouldn’t feel guilty skipping over this. This demo was baaaad.
Tumblr media
Dragon Quest: Builders 1 and 2 System: PS4
What is it? It’s Minecraft but with a Dragon Quest coat of paint
What did I think? While I am a sucker for Dragon Quest spinoffs (seriously I’ve put so much time into titles like Heroes 1, Heroes 2, Rocket Slime and Monsters) this didn’t do anything for me. I just don’t enjoy Minecraft’s gameplay loop at all
Would I buy it? No to Minecraft, no to Dragon Quest Minecraft
Tumblr media
Langrisser I + II System: PS4
What is it? It’s a remaster of two old SRPG’s, Langrisser 1 and 2.
What did I think? This is great! It totally made me remember that “SRPG’s are pretty neat, aren’t they?” The gameplay system in particular seems really neat, like some weird mishmash of Fire Emblem and Advance Wars (note: I really like Advance Wars). I’m kinda surprised that a game of this age has a battle system like this. Also that vintage 80 / 90′s aeshetic...
Would I buy it? When I have money, yes, yes I will.
Tumblr media
Gravity Rush 2 System: PS4
What is it? It’s a third-person action game centered around gravity powers
What did I think? I always planned on buying this, but this demo has me wanting a copy right now. This demo is already so much more fun than the entirety Gravity Rush 1 (the visual / audio feedback of the game is so much better, also the extra moveset options seem great).
Would I buy it? I always intended to buy this, but playing this has me wanting to ignore my “if I want a game, and it’s not digital only, I am only allowed to buy a physical copy” rule. I *really* want to get this game RIGHT NOW
Tumblr media
PixelJunk Monsters 2 System: PS4
What is it? It’s a Tower Defense game... with a twist
What did I think? PixelJunk is a name I haven’t heard since the early PS3 days... Anyway, I gave this game a shot and it’s... not good. I like Tower Defense games but this game basically removes the fun, fast pace of TD’s with zany mechanics I don’t agree with (like needing to manually pick up loot with a character). The only interesting wrinkle is the co-op... which the demo doesn’t actually let you try
Would I buy it? Hard pass, there are a ton of freeware TD games with a much faster and more satisfying gameplay pace than this

A  rundown on my thoughts on Vesperia (I’m at the beginning of the second part, am a chunk of the ways into the Nordopolica Coliseum stuff). Under the cut, broken into “what I liked”, “what I didn’t”, and “what I feel nuetrally on”.
Postives:
The characters are so lovely, I am so attached to all of them, especially Yuri, Flynn, and Estelle. I love the sliding scale of idealism to cynicism they have going (though none of them are 100% either), it’s so fascinating and endearing
Yuri. I’ve been told that he’s almost far and away one of the most popular characters in the whole series and man, I completely get it. The fact that he turns to morally grey actions because he cares so much about the well being of others, even people he knows he’ll never see again, is just so unique for a protagonist that it makes him so hard not to love. You can tell that he wants to be able to be cold, to be unfeeling, but he just can’t, he loves and feels and desires to help others so strongly that he can almost never say no to anything that’s asked of him, even if he’ll offer token complaint along the way. He’s just. A treasure. And he’s a goddamn adult for once, like young protags are fine but seeing a character who has a bit more life experience under their belt is so refreshing
Found family bitches!!! I legitimately teared up when Yuri pat Karol’s head to comfort him. He’s such a big brother to Estelle and Karol it’s so precious!!!! You can really feel that Yuri enjoys having people who rely on him, and whom he can rely on in return. He’s always so supportive!!
Estelle is an angel descended upon this world, I love how shes in many ways sort of a more typical protag than Yuri but instead the game examines the pros and cons of being Like That. That to have that inherent goodness and selflessness is a great thing, but it can also be very selfish. And watching her discover what she really wants in life is a fascinating journey I can’t wait to finish with her
Karol isn’t my favorite child in media but like I want to give the poor boy a hug, like everyone chatises (outside of Brave Vesperia) him for being a coward but like he’s only 12 years old????? I find it perfectly reasonable for him to run??????? He’s a fucking 7th grader. And his reaction to finally getting the acceptance he’s always craved? Mwah
Where I’m at in the story Flynn’s only been in and out and only playable once so I don’t know him as well but he’s an archetype I love so I have immediate bias for him lmao. I do like how they continually go out of their way to show you that him and Yuri have the same same goal, the same morals, the same hopes, but they simply cannot reconcile each other’s methods no matter what. That is exactly how you make amazing rival characters. Even when they opposed each other you could always feel the overwhelming care they have for each other, it’s so good....
Judith is a Queen, I don’t know much about her yet since she’s a relatively recent addition to my party but I love that like the designated fanservice girl has like an actual Reason to be so and like, isn’t just titties out for no reason and actively enjoys it. Her slightly moral ambiguity is also really well done, like you can super tell that she’s a good person but she’s done some shit that was at least callous to the consequences of her good deeds. Also, flirty friendships are my jam Yuri/Judith BrOTP 4 lyfe
Rita is a baby gay and I wish her the best of luck on her journey to come to terms with her lesbianhood. For the most part imo she’s a fairly standard tsundere but like, sometimes having an Archetype...but Gay(tm) is all you need to be a good character
I have no strong feelings on Raven since he’s also been in and out and I don’t really like how he’s voice acted. He’s like, chill, he’s the funky uncle
I tend not to retain much about the story of an RPG the first time I play it since theres so much dialogue and flavor text to plow through but I do kind of like the loose structure of it, it feels very natural, like I’m just along for a random ass adventure these people are having. It’s really linear but it never feels like it’s on rails or anything
Negatives:
I’m not super into the gameplay, I can’t tell if its not good, I’m just bad at it, or a mix of both
Okay the fact that you can’t see enemy health bars in combat unless you hold down a button which also pauses the action is Bad imo, it makes every fight feel way longer bc I’m getting no immediate feedback on my progess
It’s. So. Fucking. Obtuse on what it wants you to do sometimes!!! Like a lot of the time its obvious but then sometimes the only reason I didn’t need a guide is I was blindly spamming A or Y (for shit with the Sorcerer’s Ring) and running into the walls praying something was interactable. I know people complain about games these days holding your hand too much or something but geeze.
Related to the above, minimaps for the dungeons and towns please, like its nice to have on the overworld but honestly I get more turned around and lost in indoor locations, since a lot of the backgrounds aren’t super unique looking. It could be progessively filled out as you go like the overworld map. Please.
I LOVE the story and characters and as I said above but like. The cutscenes break up the action every fucking five seconds, these people can walk and talk!!!! Like not to somehow bring a Bioware comparison into this but like, some of the skits could be had while you’re traversingt he world map instead of stopping you dead. It makes the pacing very “stop and start” and jarring
The puzzles. Wait, that’s not accurate, the long ass sections where you just spam the Y button to hit shit with your socerer’s ring an back track. They suck. The game’s already plenty long, didn’t need padding
No strong opinions on:
The aesthetic. Standard fantasy setting, some of the monster designs are cute and fun, some feel lazy, I likely won’t remember any of them in the long run.
Same for the music. The Dahngrest theme is the only one that ever stood out to me as “oh, I like this”.
Worldbuilding too. The names are a bit Much so I can barely recall a lot of them, and the ones I do I def can’t spell lmao. And I find it hard to retain a lot of the background stuff that you find out when it’s mostly infodumped at you by Estelle like she’s Ye Olde Google
All in all I’m enjoying my time with it, though honestly more for the interactive experience elements than as a game.

All the zeldas. Just. All. Of them
I….Michi I was going to apologize for not getting to this until today, but considering how many Zelda games there are I no longer regret not doing this last night.
Under the cut, bc do you know how many games there are including spinoffs? Too many to not be under a cut.
The Legend of Zelda
never played | want to play | terrible | boring |okay | good | great | a favorite | played but never completed
I watched my brother and mom play it bc we have it on this special edition disk that had like, four LoZ games on it, and it’s certainly a game of its time which means it’s super-hard if you don’t know what you’re doing, and still hard even if you do, so I probably won’t try it anytime soon.
The Adventure of Link
never played | want to play | terrible | boring | okay | good | great | a favorite | played but never completed
This was also one of the games on the aforementioned special edition disk, which I watched my brother and mom attempt far enough to know you couldn’t pay me to try and beat the game. My understanding is this is fundamentally one of the most–if not THE most–difficult games in the entire franchise. A product of it’s time, entirely unique in it’s RPG-style mechanics which didn’t work out for the gameplay that well, I’ve only read one story of someone beating the game it’s that hard.
Despite not wanting to play either of the very first two games, I really love the implied story components of each, esp. in terms of the ever-inconsistent and changing lore. So, for story and maps, these games are neat.
A Link to the Past
never played | want to play | terrible | boring | okay | good | great | a favorite | played but never completed
The very first LoZ game I ever played, so it has a special place in my heart. Also the first game to introduce the “zelda formula” that made the series so successful, so I gotta applaud it for that too.
Link’s Awakening / Link’s Awakening DX
never played | want to play | terrible | boring | okay | good | great | a favorite | played but never completed
I roughly know the story components and this is…one hell of a weird story, but like, I love the design for the Wind Fish, and Marin came from this game so I kinda want to try playing it for myself eventually.
Ocarina of Time
never played | want to play | terrible | boring | okay | good | great | a favorite | played but never completed
The first time I played this was well after I played Wind Waker, so this game doesn’t have the nostalgia factor for me that it has for most fans. When I first played it I got tired of Navi bugging me to save Zelda, even though I was in the middle of having fun with side quests, so I stopped and never beat it. When I went back years later to try and beat it I got stuck in Ganon’s Tower and refused to look up a guide, and have thus, still never beat it. Eventually I should look up a playthough of the ending just so I know exactly what happens, bc even though this isn’t one of my fave games, it’s so important for timeline theory and lore that I kinda need to know shit about the game. Not actually sure how I got through the Water Temple twice.
Majora’s Mask
never played | want to play | terrible | boring | okay | good | great | a favorite | played but never completed
Listen. I like side quests. They’re fun. But generally speaking they’re optional and not needed to complete the main storyline. When I found out that the only way to have a relatively easy time getting into this game’s “water temple” was by completing a ton of other side quests, it kinda broke my will to complete the game. Also I don’t do well on timers, so I dunno if I’ll ever beat this game. I mean I still might try bc there’s a lot of interesting story points in the game, but like, I really, really, really hate being put on a time limit and having to restart the three-day cycle constantly. Love the dark themes though, those are fun.
Oracle of Seasons & Ages
never played | want to play | terrible | boring | okay | good | great | a favorite | played but never completed?
(I lumped these two games together bc there’s a way to link the stories, but they are technically two different games.) I seem to remember a friend of my mom’s lending one of these games to me and my brother a long time ago but I couldn’t get past the first dungeon bc I was young and sucked at boss fights. I might buy and try to play these games at some point though bc the stories are really interesting and the games are cheapish on Nintendo’s eshop.
Four Swords
never played | want to play | terrible | boring | okay | good | great | a favorite | played but never completed
It, uh…it exists. Dunno much about it but I hate the map bc it fucks up all of my land- and cartography-based theory-crafting.
Wind Waker
never played | want to play | terrible | boring | okay | good | great | a favorite | played but never completed?
So I can’t remember if I, personally, have ever beaten the game, but I did make it to the end before going off to do side quests, and also my brother beat it which I watched, so I know the entire story. Overall a good game, my only major complaint is Tetra turning white after she “becomes Princess Zelda” and also the fact that she goes from kickass pirate to passive damsel in distress. My favorite Ganondorf, for both design and story. Also the graphics aged surprisingly well? Oh, and I loved the Rito, and the exploration aspect was one of the best executed of any LoZ game (the best in my opinion, before BotW came along). Gameplay and mechanics were one of the strongest of any LoZ game I’ve played as well.
Four Swords Adventures
never played | want to play | terrible | boring | okay | good | great | a favorite | played but never completed
This is one of the really underrated LoZ games, but honestly the gameplay is? Really solid and fun. Also the graphics were really good, esp. considering 2D style games weren’t being made as often when it came out. This is one of like, two or three LoZ games that I’ve beaten more than once–in fact I think I’ve beaten this game more than any other LoZ game, and it’s probably my first or second most-replayed-and-beaten game of any game I’ve played. It’s kinda like, a comfort game for me. Also the manga for this game was excellent.
Minish Cap
never played | want to play | terrible | boring | okay | good | great | a favorite | played but never completed
Another really underrated game with solid gameplay and graphics. Like, this game is really good, and I also really loved the story.
Twilight Princess
never played | want to play | terrible | boring | okay | good | great | EXCELLENT | a favorite | played but never completed
This is my personal favorite LoZ game of the entire series, I really, really love this game. It’s also the only LoZ that I know I’ve beaten 100%, like all the side quests, all the heart containers, items, poe souls, everything. One of the few LoZ games that I’ve replayed and beaten multiple times. It was also the first LoZ game that I completed bc I used to have a bad habit of never beating LoZ games for some reason. Also the home of my two top fave LoZ characters, Midna and Shad. I just…I really love this game.
Phantom Hourglass

I hate putting “terrible” down for any game, but listen. The mechanics were a nightmare, everything about trying to move around and fight was so frustrating. The only reason I stuck with the game as long as I did was Linebeck–but when I learned the last dungeon was also the dungeon I’d been forced to go through again and again and again, I just…couldn’t do it and I’ve never picked up the game since. I should look up the ending for this as well, bc the story was good, it’s just…the gameplay…no.
Spirit Tracks

I hated playing Phantom Hourglass, so I never even bought this one. The aesthetics are cute, like I really like the trains and stuff, and it’s neat that Zelda travels with you. But the colonialist undertones are…yikes.
Skyward Sword

I really enjoyed playing this game, despite the fact that there was too much hand-holding and Fi’s assistance was more annoying than helpful most of the time. But the story and the visuals, and the music–I really enjoyed those aspects of the game. I’ve also replayed and beaten this game a couple of times, despite the flaws, just bc I was really endeared to the characters and story.
A Link Between Worlds

This was another really fun game, and I really liked all of the characters and the cute graphics. Not much to say on this bc it was honestly just, really fun and good. It was a really fun way to revive the Hyrule of A Link to the Past.
Tri Force Heroes

My friend bought this as a graduation present for me, but it’s more fun to play together with two other people, so I haven’t been able to play it much past the first couple of areas, but what I did play was quirky and fun.
Breath of the Wild

I really enjoyed playing the game, and generally speaking it’s one of the most solid games in terms of gameplay and mechanics. And the exploration is excellent, like it was so much fun to explore the gigantic world of Hyrule. But. There needed to be more story, more lore, and more music. Like what we got was great, but it was extremely lacking, even compared to games with glaring plot holes in the story, like there was just so little to work with. And there was too much “here’s these mysterious ruins that we will tell you nothing about and there’s no way to learn anything about them. ever.” moments while I was exploring. And just, I wanted more story really, more than anything.
Literally all the CGi games and games produced between 1993-1997

Enough said.
I’m also lumping all the Tingle spinoff games together bc this is getting really long
never played | want to play | terrible | boring | okay | good | great | a favorite | played but never completed
Tingle is a discomfort character for me, like not a major discomfort character, just a minor one, but enough that I’ve never willingly looked into these games, despite any good things I’ve heard about them.
Game & Watch Zelda

I didn’t even know this existed.
Link’s Crossbow Training

I know that this takes place in the Twilight Princess Hyrule, but that’s about it.
My Nintendo Picross: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Listen, I had no idea this existed either, but? It’s based off my fave game so? If I get the chance to play it, then I sure as hell will give it a whirl.
Hyrule Warriors (including Legends and the Definitive Edition)

I never got the original game bc it was for the Wii U, but I have Legends and my brother bought the Definitive Edition, the latter of which I’m currently playing. It’s honestly just a plain fun game, with solid gameplay. I like being able to feel powerful and badass, and literally half the playable characters are women which is nearly unheard of in fighting-based games. And like? I can play as TWO different versions of Midna? AND Impa is so gorgeous and really well-written, like damn, I love her so much. Linkle is actually really fun to play and really cool, and I like the fact that she isn’t just “Link but a girl” like she really stands on her own as a unique character. It’s also pretty interesting to be able to play as several villains. My only complaint is Cia, but not bc she’s a poorly written character or fanservice central, but like…LoZ in particular has a really, really bad habit of coding the evil and corrupted final big bad guy as dark-skinned and like…having an evil dark-skinned villainess who’s also fanservicy especially with Lana being Cia’s “light and goodness” it’s just…yikes. I don’t think I need to spell that out further. My understanding is that Cia gets a redemption arc of some sort eventually, but I’m not far enough in the story mode to confirm this. I sure as hell hope it’s true bc she deserves better than to just be an evil, albeit okay-written, fanservice villain.
And that’s all of them, this literally took me all day. I now know of several games I had no idea existed, yet I have no idea what to do with this info.
