#what else are they saying is fine and dandy that's actually really damn racist?? okay??
Because I saw this post earlier (and everyone better read that article fully) I was reminded of possibly the most malicious dynamic between Marinette and Lila. And it’s the white girl’s tears (look, I know people headcanon Lila as white-passing biracial but the text has given no indication that she’s anything but an appropriating white girl).
Whenever Lila wants to put Marinette under pressure, or villainise her, or get her way, she turns on the tears. Like that scary-ass tiktok trend of white girls showing off how good they are at manipulating people.
This is nothing but malicious and hateful and the fact that Marinette is half-chinese is no doubt half the reason why Lila is so successful. “How dare Marinette be mean to poor little Lila, she’s just a harmless little white girl >:(((”.
And the thing that makes this worse? Adrien, Marinette’s supposed “true love” and hero etc. etc. has no problem with this. None. Nada. Zip. Zilch. He doesn’t use any of his social training (which rich kids get heaps of) to de-escalate the situation or suggest that Lila come back after she’s calmed down or his “charm” or anything.
Adrien is constantly the one who’s “in the right” and the fact that he sees no problem with Lila’s blatant faking and manipulation should be a massive neon sign telling you that this whole show is written by white supremacists who think white women faking tears to villainise poc isn’t a problem.
I don’t know how to say this any stronger but Lila is using a tried and tested tactic that’s gotten people killed to make Marinette into a villain and Adrien WHO KNOWS THE TRUTH sees no problem with this until Lila’s already succeeded.
