Sunflower, Volume Two
Tumblr media
Heyyyy this is the second part of the Sunflower Series! This is a little less than 3k words with no warnings I can think of besides a teeny bit of bad language and... some implied drug usage? idk hope you like it lol
part one
Harry stared at the sky, watching the clouds go by.
He saw one that looked like a duck. He laughed. It was very funny. He liked ducks. They were yellow. He liked yellow. Olivia was wearing yellow sunglasses. She was smoking a cigar. He wondered why. Adam was humming something next to him. He liked it. He wondered if he’d heard it before. Maybe it was new. Maybe it’d go on the album.
Ah, the album…
He started humming, too. It was a bit off-key.
Olivia laughed at him.
Harry tried to sit up. The world spun around him. He fell back down. That was okay. He liked grass. It was soft. Kind of. Not really. It was hot. The sun was kind of bright. He kind of wished he had sunglasses.
Oh, he could steal Olivia’s. That would be good.
He tried to sit up again.
He’d forgotten how spinny everything was.
“Write this down,” Harry said suddenly.
Olivia laughed again. It sounded like music. Harry wondered if he could record it and sell it as a song. People would probably buy it. He certainly would. He opened his mouth again. He probably didn’t have a filter. That was okay.
“What am I writing?” Olivia asked.
“Yellow ducky,” Harry said.
“Right,” Olivia said.
A pause.
Harry tried to think.
It didn’t really work.
That was okay.
Olivia’s song was in his head.
Woke up alone in my be-edroom… Talked to - nobody… where were you…
He sang.
“Fell back to sleep, I got drunk by noon. I’ve never felt more -”
Another pause.
He couldn’t think of anything else.
She didn’t say anything.
What were they talking about, again?
Harry tried to look up.
She was sitting in a beach chair, yellow sunglasses pushed up against her hair. She looked thoughtful. “Amazing!” Adam blurted. He burst out laughing. Harry laughed, too. It really was very funny.
“Well,” Olivia said. She cleared her throat. “How ‘bout - I’ve never felt less… good?” Harry thought it was amazing. But she paused. Sighed. “No. Ew.” Another pause, another sigh.  “What do you feel right now, boys?”
“Amazing,” Adam said.
“Wonderful,” Harry said.
“One syllable, idiots.”
“Good,” Adam said.
“Not good, Adam.”
Harry grinned. “High.”
Olivia laughed again. “Well.”
“I feel… cool,” Adam said.
A pause.
“Woke up alone in my be-edroom - that needs to change - Talked to… nobody - that too - where were… you… Fell back to sleep… I got drunk by… noon... I’ve never felt less… cool.” She paused. “Yeah,” she said. “Yeah, that’s good.”
Harry heard her pen scratching on the paper. He wondered what her handwriting looked like. Was it loopy? He guessed it was loopy. Maybe she dotted her is with hearts. Maybe she crossed her zs like -
“I love it,” Adam declared.
“Me too,” Harry agreed, and he laughed.
Because it really was just very funny.
______________________________________________________________
A few days later.
They’d gone to the beach, ate at a few more restaurants, seen some pretty sights.
Sarah was making pancakes.
Charlotte was chopping fruit.
Harry was drinking coffee.
Olivia looked excited. She kept looking at Adam.
Finally, she said, “Okay, we have a proposal.”
Harry frowned. “Hm?”
“Chaos,” Olivia said.
Adam nodded. “Charlotte, Harry, Adam, Olivia, Sarah. Chaos.”
A pause.
“Well, thanks,” Sarah said.
Olivia gave a sheepish smile. “Sorry, Sar.” She blew her a kiss. “Love you.”
Despite himself, Harry wondered when they’d come up with it.
It was about nine in the morning. When did they get up and meet?
Or… did they get up… together…?
Wait a minute. Adam was married.
He frowned. “Chaos,” he echoed.
“M-hmm. Brilliant, innit?” Adam said. “Liva thought of it.”
Olivia grinned, glancing around. “Thoughts?”
Sarah smiled. “Yeah.” She flipped a pancake. “I mean, obviously I should be first, but…”
Adam grinned. “So we’re agreed?” he asked.
“I love it,” Charlotte said.
Sarah laughed. “You only like it ‘cause you’re first.”
She shrugged, grinning. “Well…”
“Right, well, despite the unjust placement of my initial… I like it,” Sarah agreed.
Olivia glanced at Harry. “Harold?”
Harry shrugged. Took a pancake.
“Sure.”
______________________________________________________________
They went to the beach.
They were there almost all day, messing about and wrecking havoc.
Harry should have been exhausted.
But he couldn’t sleep.
So he walked out into the hallway.
He looked left, expecting to see Olivia.
The porch was empty.
He frowned. Paused.
A bit of piano sounded from his right.
He smelled smoke, to his right.
He walked to the right.
She was sitting at the piano.
Smoking a cigar.
She looked up. Didn’t say anything. Put the cigar on the sheet music tray and played something, slow and soft. Her bare feet were pressed against two of the pedals; soft so she wouldn’t wake up the others and sustain so the notes rang out for just a few more beats.
She was just using her left. A low chord, four times. A lower chord, four more times.
She added in her right. High up. F. Kept going with the left.
Same thing on her right a couple times, and then up, and down.
She stopped. Took off sustain, kept soft on. Did a little riff. Looked up. “Thoughts?”
Harry smiled. Didn’t hesitate. “I love it.”
She smiled back. “Thanks,” she said. She stared at the keys, messing around a bit. Harry walked over, leaned on the piano, took the cigar. Inhale… exhale. “Citrus,” he said. She looked up. Grinned. “I know. I love it.” She leaned in, looked left and right conspiratorially. “Might even like it better than chocolate,” she whispered.
Harry gasped. “Scandalous.”
She giggled. Closed the piano and took the cigar back. “You wanna know just how much I like it?” Harry raised an eyebrow. “Hmm?” She shrugged, dodging as he tried to slip it from her fingers. “I like this cigar so much that I’m not gonna let you bum it.”
“Liv!” Harry gasped. He darted forward, trying to grab it again, and she spun away.
“Come on,” she laughed. “You can have another one.”
Harry followed her through the hallway to her room. Her yellow guitar was in the corner, next leant against the wall beside another in a case covered in stickers. She knelt down, balancing the cigar between her lips, and slid a wooden box from under her bed. “Come here,” she said, leaning against the bed frame.
Harry sat down next to her, and she opened the box.
“Jesus,” Harry muttered. There had to be a hundred cigars inside, each with a different wrapping and brand.  “Where’d you get all of these?” he asked, and she shrugged, digging through to the bottom.
“I dunno,” she replied. “I just find them. I mean, at different stores and stuff, you know? And I don’t usually smoke ‘em, but… I dunno, I thought this - retreat - or whatever is as good an occasion as any…” She paused, handing him one. “I’ve been having one, like, every night.”
He took the cigar. She grabbed a lighter from the bedside table. Lit it.
She watched him, her head cocked a bit. She looked a tad sleepy, her eyes tired and soft.
Inhale… exhale.
“Tastes like… coffee.”
He opened his eyes.
She was smiling, watching him almost fondly.
Harry had the sudden urge to kiss her.
But then she blinked, and the smile faded, and she looked away, biting her lip. She stretched a tad bit, and settled down next to him. She lay her head on his shoulder, curling up against him.
“G’night, Harry,” she murmured.
Harry took another puff of the cigar.
“Night, Liv,” he said.
______________________________________________________________
Harry woke up with a crick in his neck and the taste of coffee but no caffeine.
And no Olivia, either.
He cracked his neck and threw the half-smoked cigar in the bin.
“You’re in hotels a lot, right?” Her voice was muffled. She was talking weird.
He looked up. “Huh?”
She came out of the bathroom, mouth full of toothpaste and yellow toothbrush in her hand. “You stay in a lot of hotels, right?” she asked, and Harry nodded. “Yeah. Why?” She held up a finger. Disappeared into the bathroom, came out minus the toothpaste and brush.
She grabbed her guitar.
She picked out the notes. Mouthed out the counts and sang, “Woke up alone in this hotel room… Talked to nobody, where were… you… Fell back asleep, I got drunk by noon… I’ve never felt less cool.”
She clapped her hand against the strings to stop them and looked up. “Thoughts?”
Harry grinned. “Brilliant,” he said.
______________________________________________________________
Harry sighed, rifling through his notebooks yet again.
He really needed to come up with some sort of system for all of this.
“What’re you looking for?” Olivia asked from the doorway.
“I need… I did a - there’s this song,” Harry muttered. “That I - I started…” He looked up. “The one I gave you when you auditioned, remember? I can’t - I can’t remember where I put the bloody thing…”
“It was in a red one,” Olivia said.
Harry sighed again. Picked out four red notebooks. Handed her two.
“See if you can find it. Was in the back, wasn’t it?”
She nodded. Flipped through.
Harry did the same.
Nothing in the first one…
Ah. The second one. “Got it,” he said. He stood up, and Olivia tossed the two notebooks back into the pile. “I’ll clean it up later,” he murmured. Olivia shrugged, and they walked to the other room.
______________________________________________________________
“It’s nonsense,” Harry repeated.
“It’s brilliant!” Sarah exclaimed. She started the beat, and Olivia did the openings, and Adam plucked out a few notes, and Harry sighed. “There aren’t any bloody lyrics!” he shouted over the noise.
“I’m kinda into it!” Olivia laughed.
“For fuck’s - you lot are driving me crazy.”
“What do you have?” Charlotte yelled. “It’s none of your business?”
Olivia grinned. “It’s none of your, it’s none of your -”
“It’s none of your business!” she chorused with Sarah and Charlotte.
“We’re driving you crazy,” Olivia yelled, “but I’m in to it, but I’m in to it -”
Sarah did a little riff, and they all quieted down.
“Thank you,” Harry breathed. “Right, so tell me what you think.” He cleared his throat.
“She smoked away a little pack of cigarettes” - Olivia did the two chords - “hard whiskey paired with a bit of craziness” - the other two chords - “and all the boys they were saying they were into it - such a pretty face - on a pretty neck...”
“She’s driving me crazy,” Olivia sang, strumming randomly, but Harry frowned. “Well… that actually works.” He picked up a pencil. “Such a pretty face - on a pretty neck - she’s driving me crazy… Yeah. Right, and then… It's New York, baby, always packed up - Holland Tunnel for a nose, it's always packed up - After hours, she goes home to a cactus - in a black dress, she's such a bad bitch -”
“She’s driving me crazy,” they all sang. “But I’m into it, but I’m into it.”
“She sits beside me like a silhouette - hard candy dripping on me ‘til my feet are wet… And now she's all over me, it's like I paid for it” - Olivia grinned, added a, “Cha-ching” - “It's like I paid for it, I'm gonna pay for this… And… that’s it.”
Adam picked a few notes. “I don’t like a little pack of cigarettes.”
“Why not?”
“I dunno. It just doesn’t…”
Olivia played the chords. “She worked her way through a - a cheap pack of cigarettes.”
“It’s smoked away,” Harry said, and Olivia shrugged. “I know. But - cheap pack?”
“Gotta be two syllables.”
“Seemed to fit there,” Sarah said.
“Right,” Harry murmured, erasing smoked away. “‘Cause you added her. Yeah, she worked her way through a cheap pack of cigarettes - such a pretty face - yeah. Yeah, that works.” He looked up. “Anything else?”
“Bad bitch?” Charlotte asked.
Harry shrugged. “I dunno.”
“Actress,” Adam said.
Olivia played it again. “In a black dress, she's such an actress - I like that better. And… uh… hard whiskey’s awkward.” Harry frowned. “What’dya mean, awkward?” She shrugged. “Too specific. And paired doesn’t work, either.”
“Christ, woman.”
She grinned. “She worked her way through a cheap pack of cigarettes - hard liquor mixed with a bit of -” She made a face. “Craziness,” she murmured. “Intellect,” Sarah suggested. Olivia nodded. “Hard liquor mixed with a bit of intellect. Yeah, that’s good.”
“What does packed up mean?” Charlotte asked.
Harry used the pencil rubber to scratch his neck. “Well… I needed something to rhyme with backed up.” Sarah did a drum roll. “Jacked up,” she said. “New York’s bloody expensive.” Olivia laughed and Harry cracked a grin and wrote it down.
Olivia strummed a few notes and asked, “Uhhh… What was that beginning part? After hours?” Harry nodded. “Right, yeah I’m… not too sure on that one.” Olivia bit her lip. “You need another syllable in there. After hours she goes home to a cactus - it’s just a little awkward. How ‘bout…” She faded off.
Harry cleared his throat. “When she goes home -”
“She goes home to a cactus?” Adam finished for him.
“When she’s… alone,” Charlotte said.
“When she’s alone she goes home to a cactus - in a black dress -” Olivia nodded. “Nice.”
Harry wrote it down. “Wonderful.”
Sarah started the beat again. Everybody came in.
Harry cleared his throat and sang.
“She worked her way through a cheap pack of cigarettes…”
They went through without a hitch.
He clapped his hands as Olivia played the last couple of chords.
“Kiwi!” he shouted.
______________________________________________________________
A few days later.
Harry couldn’t sleep.
If he strained, he could hear soft piano music coming from the other room.
So he stood up. Stretched. Walked to the music.
Olivia was sitting at the piano. Her eyes were closed, a cigar between her lips.
“Hullo,” he said.
She opened her eyes. “Heya,” she said.
He leaned on the piano. “Can’t sleep,” he said.
“Me neither.”
“What’s this?” Harry asked, tapping the top of the piano. “Sounds familiar.”
“Moonlight Sonata.”
“‘S pretty.”
“Mhmm.”
She stopped playing abruptly, stood up, handed him the cigar. “What d’you taste?” she asked, walking away. Harry followed her into the kitchen and leant against the counter. Inhale… exhale. He frowned. “I dunno. Caramel, kind of. Not really.”
“Maple syrup,” she said.
Inhale… exhale.
Harry smiled. “Yeah,” he said. “Maple syrup.”
Olivia opened the fridge doors. Sighed. It was empty. “I’m hungry,” she murmured. Harry waved the cigar in the general direction of the cupboards. “There’re skittles in there,” he said, and she perked up. Shut the fridge, rooted through the cabinet.
“Gotcha,” she said, and she leaned against the opposite counter.
“So,” she said, studying him as she popped a few skittles into her mouth.  “Mr. Styles.”
Harry smiled. Breathed a puff of smoke. “Miss Robinson.”
She kept serious for about a second before she giggled, stepping over to stand next to him and holding the bag of skittles towards him. “I’m kidding,” she said, stealing the cigar as he took a few skittles. “I’m bored. Tell me something.”
“I dunno, Liv.”
“How boring of you, Harold.” She exhaled strangely, trying to make a smoke ring.
“You tell me something, Liv.”
“Like what?”
Harry took another skittle and held it up, inspecting it. It was green. “Favorite color?”
“Yellow. Yours?”
“I dunno,” Harry hummed, popping the skittle in his mouth. “Blue? Orange?”
Olivia’s nose wrinkled. “Orange?” she echoed incredulously, and Harry scoffed. “What, got something against orange, have you?” Olivia laughed, shaking her head. “It’s just… obnoxious.”
Harry raised a brow. “So is yellow!
“Yeah, but it’s a happy obnoxious. Orange is just obnoxious.”
“Happy obnoxious,” Harry echoed in a laugh. “Ridiculous.”
Olivia grinned. “You know it’s true.”
“Alright, alright. Agree to disagree. Movie?”
“The Little Mermaid.”
Harry smiled.
“And yours?” she asked.
“Love Actually.”
She laughed, like music, and shook her head. “You sap.”
“Hey, the movie’s bloody brilliant. You ever see it?”
Olivia shook her head again. Looked up. Her eyes seemed a bit sleepy, more brown than green or blue in the dark. She looked soft, haloed just a bit by the moonlight through the window, and Harry had the sudden urge to kiss her.
She smiled. “No, I haven’t. Maybe we should watch it sometime.”
Harry raised an eyebrow. “Think so?”
“Mhm,” she murmured, her eyes flicking to his lips.
Harry felt himself lean in, and he was so close, so, so close, almost touching, and then -
“I should sleep,” Olivia whispered.
She stood up, the bag of Skittles forgotten on the counter, and left the room.

*** CYPRESS RIVER POST RACE REPORT ***
The calm after the storm!
Round #3 of the 2021 Manitoba Dirt Riders season is complete! As exciting as it was, it was also quite sad that our race season has come to an end. It may have been short, but I know many of us are grateful that we got a mini series!
Let’s get down to it! Lots to mention so I will start out with saying a huge thanks to our weekend sponsor, Wheat City Cycle! It’s always nice when our sponsors hop on the courses as well, congrats on some amazing racing Mike!
Thanks to Watson Roofing for being our water sponsor! It was a goofy year with the water, but we always appreciate Dan for all the support!
Thanks again to Quarry Ridge Racing for hooking us up with the weekend entertainment! It was my son's first race this weekend and he was super pumped to have his song playing at the start line! Calmed a few nerves and made it extra fun, as I am sure it did for many others!
We had an incredible turn out at our newest track with 198 bikes for the Saturday fun race and an astounding 213 bikes for the Sunday points race! Our fastest lap time was 23.32 from our own VP, Cory Sidlar! (pays off to get to a work party) Well done Sidlar!
Thanks to our SAR sponsored medics, we were on the low side for injuries. A couple minor ones that will be healed soon, if not already.
Thanks to everyone for joining us around the fire Saturday night so we could celebrate our Saturday victories! Such a great way to scope out the competition and plan your attack for Sunday! lol
Lauraine Saltel Berard you did an incredible job making sure our volunteer boards were full, everyone was taken care of and knew what they were doing, and we had a great time seeing some new faces! It’s always nice getting to meet more people from our riding community, so next year, I hope to see some more faces as well! Thank you again to all the volunteers from this weekend! Without you, we don’t ride!
Results are now up on the website so go check out your times, your friends times, and see how you did. Congratulations to everyone who picked up some hardware this weekend! While you are looking at the results, I do have to point out that we have growing numbers of female riders who are riding the pro loop! From Advanced women, to Open C, to Open B, we have young ladies coming up that are sure to inspire the younger female generation! As a mom of a girl who already looks up to a lot of these young ladies, I am beyond thankful for this incredible community, but also such amazing role models! Keep riding ladies, the little eyes are watching!
A couple notes that made this weekend a little extra special! First, Kelly and Tracy Mauws, thank you so much for sharing your land, making one of the best tracks, and providing an incredible closing weekend to our 2021 season! You both are amazing and such incredible people, we can’t thank you enough! All the little extras that were done that many didn’t see, it was all for a great cause! Like Paul has said many times over the weekend, ‘if you build it, they will come’...and they all came!! Second, Paul Swiscoski, I know you always say that this is a team effort, and I do agree that we all work great together and accomplish a lot as a team, but a team always needs a great leader, and you my friend, are one hell of a leader! You fought for a season and we got it! You put all your energy into making sure that the club is ready to go on the drop of a dime. We could not have completed this season without you, so if everyone can give a shout out to Paul, thank you!!!!
On that note, stay tuned for further updates, schedules, and all the good stuff coming in the future! Thank you to each and every rider, parent, volunteer, spectator, sponsor, human being that came out to support MDR this season! We are truly grateful and look forward to another great riding season!

Wednesday Briefing by The New York Times
India’s coronavirus mystery
The country has around 125 confirmed cases, and it’s a bit of a puzzle how the world’s second-most-populous nation, with 1.3 billion people, has seemingly remained unscathed so far.
There could be many more cases in India than have been detected, because of the difficulties of getting tested. But it’s also possible that the country has actually managed to so far escape the worst — either because of quick and strict efforts right from the start, or another mix of factors.
The relative calm has fueled disbelief in some quarters that the virus is even a threat. Over the weekend in Lucknow, one of India’s bigger cities, young people packed into pubs. “I am not scared. I eat, party, sleep,” said Akshay Gupta, an accountant who was bar hopping on Saturday night. “The scare is overhyped.”
Elsewhere in Asia, countries have begun to impose strict measures, including lockdowns in the Philippines and Malaysia and the widespread closure of schools, businesses and entertainment venues in Thailand. Some nations face a worrisome rise in cases without health care systems that can deal with a major outbreak.
Case studies:
Early intervention, meticulous tracking, quarantines and social distancing helped Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong get their outbreaks under control.
■ New York City residents were told to prepare for a possible “shelter in place” order in the next 48 hours. Separately, the Trump administration will seek to send cash payments directly to Americans to cushion the economic blow of the pandemic.
■ The first testing in humans of an experimental vaccine has begun, but even if it is proved safe and effective, it will not be available for at least a year.
■ The European Union has adopted a 30-day ban on non-essential travel to European countries from the rest of the world, starting a stretch of isolation like nothing in modern history outside wartime.
■ After suffering their worst day in decades, stocks bounced back: The S&P 500 rose about 6 percent as Washington policymakers talked up plans to try to cushion the economy.
■ The actors Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have been released from the hospital after contracting the virus.
What we can do next
Melina caught up with Donald G. McNeil Jr., our infectious diseases reporter who has been covering epidemics for nearly two decades. He has been reporting on experts’ recommendations for what to do next.
You’ve said this is a crisis but it’s not unstoppable. How do we stop it?
We need to shut down all travel, as experts have said. And then we really aggressively tackle the clusters. People have got to stop shaking hands; people have got to stop going to bars and restaurants. New clusters are appearing every day.
It’s basically urgent that America imitates what China did. China had a massive outbreak in Wuhan, spreading all over the country, and they’ve almost stopped it. We can shut off the roads, flights, buses and trains. I don’t think we’ll ever succeed at doing exactly what China did. It’s going to cause massive social disruption because Americans don’t like being told what to do.
In places like China, Singapore and Taiwan, they’ve gone through SARS — they know how scary it is.
Is that what some countries are missing? This sense of collective action and selflessness?
That is absolutely what many Americans are missing — that it’s not about you right now. When I was a kid, my parents were in the World War II generation and there was more of a sense of, hey, we did something amazing; we ramped up this gigantic society effort. It was this sense of we’re all in this together.
We’ve got to realize that we’re all in this together and save each other’s lives. That has not penetrated yet and it needs to penetrate because we all have to cooperate.
The sad thing is: Most people — this has been true in every epidemic I’ve covered, whether it’s Zika in Puerto Rico or AIDS in South Africa — don’t believe in the disease until they see someone get sick and die from it, someone they know. And it’s too bad. It’s: Oh, that’s happening to those people over there; that’s happening in China; that’s not going to happen to us.
I imagine that after decades of covering epidemics, you understood Covid-19’s severity early on. Tell me about when this became serious for you.
I remember vividly — I went on vacation to Argentina, not thinking this was terribly serious: It sounds like an animal disease and it’s going to kill a limited number of people. By the time I came back, China admitted there was sustained human-to-human transmission. I started watching the case counts double and doing the math in my head, and I realized, oh my god. This is going pandemic.
    When was that?
It was late January. I was on the subway, going from work to my girlfriend’s house, just sort of thinking about the numbers and realizing: Wait a minute, that doubling rate is so fast, there’s no way this isn’t going to become a pandemic. I started writing on a piece of notebook paper trying to see if I was crazy — and then went looking up the 1918 pandemic and realized that was the closest model to this.
China bans American journalists from major outlets
Beijing announced that it would expel American journalists working for The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post, and also ban them from reporting in territories like Hong Kong and Macau.
It also demanded that those outlets, as well as the Voice of America and Time magazine, provide the government with information about their operations. The full scope of the directive was not immediately clear.
The latest move in the tit-for-tat campaign between Washington and Beijing comes at a moment when reporting on the coronavirus is a global, 24-hour operation for most news outlets. Last month China expelled three Wall Street Journal reporters from the country. President Trump responded this month by limiting the number of Chinese citizens who could work in the U.S. for five state-controlled Chinese news organizations.
Related: China has been cracking down on online anger toward the government for its handling of the coronavirus outbreak. A new internet police force is knocking on doors of suspected critics, subjecting them to hours of interrogation and in some cases forcing them to sign loyalty pledges.
Why yoga is causing a stir in Nepal
Next month, the small Himalayan nation will become the first in the world to make yoga a required subject nationwide.
For many around the world in similar programs, it’s a healing and stress-reducing addition to a curriculum. But in a region where the exercises are increasingly intertwined with rising Hindu nationalism, some Muslims are worried.
Here’s what else is happening
Football: The European Championship, second only to the World Cup in international football, will be postponed until 2021.
Germany: A laptop sold on eBay for $100 was discovered to contain classified software for a surface-to-air rocket system used by the country’s air force.
Syria: Amid a cease-fire in the northern province of Idlib, some of the hundreds of thousands of displaced residents are trickling back. But very few believe the quiet will last.
Snapshot: A physicist is trying to disentangle the structural dynamics of bird nests using bamboo skewers, above. A nest is “a disordered stick bomb,” resilient in ways that humans have hardly begun to understand.
What we’re reading: This Harvard Business Review article about two new mothers who take very different paths going back to work in Sweden and the U.S. “Reading the two stories side by side shows just how dismally work-family policies in the U.S. measure up — if they’re there at all,” says Francesca Donner, the director of our Gender Initiative.
Now, a break from the news
Cook: This rosemary, olive oil and orange cake is great for what our Food editor Sam Sifton calls “procrastibaking,” though “anxiety baking may be the better term of art these days.”
Shows for social distancing: Looking for a few hours of distraction between vigorous hand-washings? Need a moment away from Twitter? A musical mockumentary, an addiction sitcom, two true-crime docs and a pottery competition are here to help.
Read: Was there a murder on the Mayflower? In her new novel, “Beheld,” TaraShea Nesbit uses a death on the pilgrim ship to examine what life was like for women in the Plymouth Colony.
Smarter Living: Here are some ways to help your community combat the coronavirus while still practicing social distancing. For starters, donate — ideally money, not old cans — to your local food bank.
And now for the Back Story on … Covering an infected global economy
The pandemic is having a big impact on the world’s wallet. To understand the fallout, Times Insider spoke to Jeanna Smialek, who covers the Federal Reserve from Washington. Below is a condensed version of the conversation.
On Sunday, the Fed slashed interest rates to almost zero. How could that affect us going forward?
The move should help consumers borrow and spend. For example, it should make mortgages cheaper. But at the end of the day, nothing the Fed can do at this point is going to offset the full shock of coronavirus, because its tools are just not well suited to making up for lost work hours or helping employees who have missed out on paychecks.
Can nations work together to help the global economy rebound?
Central banks do not have the firefighting power that they had going into the 2008 financial crisis. Many central banks, like in Japan and in parts of Europe, already had very low or even negative interest rates. And so they just have less room to act to soften the economic blow.
What matters right now is what happens to the companies getting clobbered in the moment. Is this a short-term blip that is painful but not devastating? Or will this kill companies, thereby having greater repercussions for financial markets, and be much more long-lived in its pain?
If there’s one takeaway for readers on the global economy, what should it be?
It’s been said by every person on the planet at this point, but the single best thing for the global economy is for this virus to be contained. More than any fiscal or monetary package, the public health response here is most important.

Responses to {Part 17} I Won’t Stop You // Jeon Jungkook, Vampire!AU Asks~
Please ‘Keep Reading’ to find my response to your ask ^^ As always, I have copied and pasted all asks into this post in regards to last night’s chapter to avoid clogging up people’s dashboards and to avoid spoilers for those who may still wish to read the chapter. Thank you ^^
@purelyple said: never clicked so fast in my whole life for a vampire fic.
Thank you so much :3
Anonymous said: the enDING ARE YOU K I D D I N G ME i need it to be next tuesday right now immediately
I apologise for ending that chapter right then! It was 6,000+ words and it was definitely running on for too long ^^ Thank you so much for reading it my dear =)
@mysr3 said:  Thank you Sara!!! IWSY sigh~  so good! Can't wait for the next part. Although I'll be spending Valentine Day alone, I'll have this to accompany me and make my heart fluff❤️❤️❤️
Thank you very much! At least the next chapter will be a lovely one for Valentines Day for all us lonely souls spending it alone hehe c:
Anonymous said: The reason Tae wanted her to wait before he could get out of view from the mirror was because of the whole vampire thing right?
I’m afraid not my love! I have already laid out my lore of a Vampire’s reflection in Chapter Two when I said that Vampires DO have a reflection (along with not being destroyed in sunlight.) The reason why Taehyung would have moved out of view is because he would have wanted her to see only herself without seeing him in her field of vision ^^
Anonymous said: I absolutely love IWSY! Your writing style is amazing and I always look forward to reading a new chapter❤  Do you have any tips for writing fanfiction? I would like to start writing too but I don't have good ideas.. 😂😊
Thank you so much my dear ^^ I’m really happy you’re enjoying it. I made a post a little while back with some tips so I’ll link it to you here!
Anonymous said: Do you have any idea how long the IWSY serie will be? I loooooove it so much btw
Like I have said before, I have no idea how long it will be going on for. You’ll know when I do! :D Thank you so much for reading it my love :)
Anonymous said: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
*screams back* WHAT HAPPENED ARE YOU OKAY
Anonymous said: Eventhough this chapter of IWSY is all about Y/N being excited about the dress and everything, i can't help but feel nervous about the upcoming ball. TT Yoongi actually scares the crap out of me in this story xq How amazing that you can make me feel this way with writing! Love you 💕
Are you feeling the calm before the storm? *whispers* good~ hehe Thank you so much for reading it! ^^
@omelys-space said: Again amazing update as always ~ ❤ Now I have two things:  I need that dress in my life 😍 the way you described it was so stunning  And can ChimChim and TaeTae get any cuter?! 🙈 I am freakishly excited to see Kooks reaction next week 😄 Ohhh and to learn more about her power that she has
Thank you very much ❤  I’m so happy you enjoyed it! And yes - I really want/need a dress and shoes such as the ones in my fan fiction hehe~ Yes! There are many things to be revealed! I’m excited to show them ! ^^
@bangtan-bap-sonyeondan said: I was feeling down earlier and just thought I'd search around the scenario tag and I stumbled across I won't stop you and I read the entire series and then waited for this new part and I love it. I couldn't stop reading all parts and did it in one sitting. I hope you keep at it and I'll look forward to each upcoming part!
I’m so happy that you could find my series and it could make you (hopefully) feel a little better ^^ Thank you so much for reading it and messaging me to tell me, as well! *hugs* I will definitely finish it until the end of the story! You have no need to worry about that :)
Anonymous said: Ok wow.Wow.I've never had a full chapter of changing into a dress get me excited and smily at 2 am when I have to wake up at 7 to study. Wow.You killed me.You should at lest come to my funeral *cries a red river*.MY GOOOOOODDDD. But seriously, I was hoping to get some reaction from jungkook.I can't believe I have to wait a whole week for that omo kill me  Plz make the next chapter loooong with maaaaaaanyy secrets revealed and maaany important details!!!Looking forward to it!THAnks SARS I LOVE U!
I’m happy to know that you enjoyed reading about the dress! I wanted to fully explain everything because of what will happen at the ball ;) There’s method in my madness, I promise you! And don’t worry, you’ll get a worthy description of Jungkook’s reaction next week (seeing as it’s Valentines Day as well ❤ ) This chapter was actually the longest chapter I’ve ever written (6,000+ words heh) Thank you for reading and looking forward to the next one, I love you too!!
@pandafish said: goodness! the gown sounds absolutely beautiful.  and what a fitting color ;)
I really want a dress like the one I described c: It’s like my dream dress! Haha and yes, a very fitting colour indeed ;)
Anonymous said: Oh my gosh, I am absolutely in love with I Won't Stop You! Your writing is so great! It's so detailed and the story is beautiful!
*blushes* Thank you so much! I really feel like the dress needed to be explained in great detail as I wanted you (as the reader) to be able to envision the next scenes perfectly and exactly how you look! :D
Anonymous said: WOW!!! I WONT STOP YOU PART 17 was so good!!!!!!!! I loved it!!!!! But is there a picture of the dress????? I would really love to see it!!!!!!
Thank you so much beautiful! Unfortunately, there is no picture as I created it from my imagination (as there is a reason why Taehyung and Jimin designed it the way they did ;D) - but THE SHOES ARE A REAL THING. Follies Strass by Christian Louboutin are the most beautiful heels I’ve ever seen.
Anonymous said: "You ARE a princess"  Me: *is suspicious* 🤔 lmao now that I think about it they mention her looking/being a princess a lot...😏
Haha aww it’s more so because she has no idea that Jungkook is ACTUALLY a Prince. It’s more of an inside joke that they are keeping from her - especially when she said she felt like a princes ^^
@gwynethjodie said: You are truly a gifted writer. I'm just realizing I've only been reading "I Won't Stop You", when I should be reading all your work. The way you've set everything up in IWSY is indescribable, it feels like i'm watching a movie from all the details, imagery and scenes. Every scene feels so significant to the story and in no way feels like fillers. I was dying for a picture of the dress&such from the last chapter, but maybe you didn't provide one cause you wanted the reader to envision themselves
This is truly such an amazing message to receive. You really made me smile and I mean that from the bottom of my heart. I’m so incredibly happy that you feel this way and that you can see everything so clearly in IWSY because that’s exactly what I was hoping for. And yes - unfortunately there is no picture of the dress because I created it entirely from the realm of my head haha - but if you want to get an idea of the shoes, they are a real thing! Follies Strass by Christian Louboutin are just...so beautiful...^^ Thank you so much my love, I hope you have a great day :)
@audreymv said: I wont be able to say an opinion about this chapter sadly because I decided im going to read it when the other or next part comes out. I feel bad but i knowing you this chapter is probs really good
There’s no need to feel bad! You can read it whenever you wish :) I know some people like that who don’t watch TV series until the series has finished airing so that they can watch it all in one go. So I don’t mind at all my love! The series will remain on this blog for you to return to whenever you want to :)
Anonymous said: I'm not even an army but your jungkook vampire!au appeared on my dash and I started reading just for fun and now I'm obsessed BC ITS SO GOOD!!!!! and I'll follow your weekly updates now. I really liked your writing and keep on doing girl 'cause you're good FIGHTING
Ahhh thank you so much! I’m so happy you’re enjoying it despite not being an army ^^ I hope you’ll enjoy the rest of the series cutie ^^ Have a great day!
Anonymous said: Hey. Just want to let you know once again that I really like your writing and this story!!! I have been waiting for the dress reveal for soooooo long!!! I was having quite a bad day until got home and got the notification that you had updated the story! It made my day to see that you had put up the new chapter! IWSY makes me look forward to tuesdays and i'm really happy that you continue to write! :-) I really liked the chapter and I hope the next one will be just as amazing!!! ~Ro :-)
I hope the dress didn’t disappoint you then ;D I know I kept a secret for a very long time - and there are still more things that I think a lot of people are dying for me to uncover heh ^^ But that’s just the story! I think it’s a little harder because I release it week by week. If it was a book, it would all be revealed in an instant ^^ Thank you so much for reading the chapter and I’m glad you liked it Ro! :D
Anonymous said: TAEHYUNG CALLED HER A PRINCESS!!!?! IS THAT A CLUE OF SOME SORT???!?
Ahhhhh it appears that you’re all so clued into my double meanings and hidden intentions ;) But I promise you that he is just producing an inside joke because she said she felt like a princess, and it’s funny because Jungkook is actually a REAL prince :P
Anonymous said: I BET HE ISNT EVEN GONNA BE THERE WHEN (Y/N) WALKS OUT. //flips tables// cant wait for the next chapter kthnx
Oh come on I’m cruel but I’m not THAT cruel! ;P It would be funny tho “Sorry (Y/N) I had to leave I got tired of waiting” lmao xD Thank you so much for reading it babe!
Anonymous said: Sara, you leave me in absolute awe. This dress that yn has is so beautiful even though I can't actually see it. You're a master of your craft much like tae and jimin are of their dress making omg I am in love with this series and can't wait to see jungkook. That was so sweet how tae told yn to love him no matter what and just omg I teared up. Thank you so much for this. I'm in love with you in the most platonic way 😭😭😭😭 thank you so much Sara ❤️❤️❤️❤️-also I hope your mom is healing well :)
Master of my craft *blushes* YOU FLATTER ME TOO MUCH DEAR ANON. I’m so happy that you could envision it clearly in your mind, that’s what I was hoping for ^^ I love you too my dear! And thank you so much for this beautiful message - you’re making me tear up!! And yes - my Mum is home now and she’s healing well so I’m super duper happy about that! Thank you for mentioning it ^^
Anonymous said: ...I'm crying. That was emotional asf ok. how can words on a screen make me feel this way I don't understand lol. I can tell that you put so much of yourself into your writing cuz I can feel the emotions from reading it. If that makes sense lol. Your writing is better than amazing ok can't wait til next week! Also idk if it's just a side thing for you or you want to make it a career, but I support you and your writing 100% and I know I'm not the only one 💕💕💕
It makes perfect sense, don’t worry! I’m so glad that I could put my emotion into it and make you feel it too ^^ Your message was so uplifting and kind, so thank you for that from the bottom of my heart :) *hugs* You’re amazing and I hope your day is as amazing as you are! Thank you also for reading the chapter beautiful ^^
Anonymous said: this chapter thobsjsjidj i feel like im reading a book holy shit youre very detailed i can literally see the dress infront of me lmao
I’m so happy you appreciate the detail that goes into each chapter! And I hope you enjoyed the chapter my love - and that the dress pleased you! :D hehe Thank you so much c:
Anonymous said: So this is what I am going to do - I'm going to wait until next Tuesday so you've updated two times, so I have two new chapters of IWSY to read, since I don't want them to end
That’s perfectly alright with me! You do what makes you happiest my dear ^^
@doubletroublesince1994 said: OH MY LORD THIS CHAPTER IS BEAUTIFUL ♥ I wonder if you have a picture of the dress that you wrote about, I would love to see it  (Tumblr unfollowed you wtf does this happen often?)
Thank you so much beautiful ^^ And no, unfortunately the dress came from my imagination - but if you would like to see the shoes, they are a real thing! Follies Stress by Christian Louboutin ^^ hehe And oh no! Silly Tumblr :( Don’t worry my love, it’s all good!
Anonymous said: I BET Y/N IS A PRINCESS OF SOME SORT
INCORRECT!
Anonymous said: Genuinely the only writer who can make me read thousands of words about putting on a dress (well I suppose it's not just A dress, but anyway) and still have me captivated until the very last word...  You're so talented 🙈💕  - UK anon
Haha I’m glad it could do that for you! Well, it was mostly about the dress but there was important lore about natum lamia in there too c: And of course, Taehyung’s way of telling her that no matter what happens, she should always go with her heart and love Jungkook ^^ Thank you very much for reading it my dear! I’m happy that you enjoyed it :)
@jynxy24 said: Newest part of IWSY was :3 Atleast you didn't play with my feelings :D I have nothing to say except thank you lolol. Stay Awesooooooome!!
See? I’m not ALL cruel and bad :P Thank you so much for reading Jynxy my love c:
Anonymous said: Is it weird that I can hear "She Is" by Jonghyun playing in mynhead on the last chapter? I don't know the significance to it. It's just a fleeting thought, really.
I’ve never listened to that song, so I will listen to it when I have a spare moment! Thank you for telling me about it :D
@line-fangirl said: Thanky you so much for i wont stop you xxx (cont.) I swear im always afraid that if i read too fast the chapter would end soon i love it <3 :3
Awww you’re so sweet! You’re very welcome and thank you so much for reading it :D And take your time with reading it and absorb everything! Each chapter has some kind of lore or important information to the story, do don’t miss it! ;D hehe
@animeimmortal said: I. WANT. THEM. TO. BE. TOGETHER. SO. BAD. GAHHHH (cont.) AND STAY TOGETHER CUZ LIKE UGH. yoongi will fuck things up I know that for sure but I want them to stay togetherrrrrrr :/ *still loving it*
They are together thooooo! c: But yes, there is the threat of Yoongi~ I wonder if he’ll really show up to the ball and who will accompany him? ;o eheh~ thank you so much for reading the new chapter my love :D

NTEB PROPHECY NEWS PODCAST: COVID-19 Has Absolutely Impacted And Changed The Entire World, It Is A Biblical Pestilence From Matthew 24?
The headlines today are screaming at us, telling us to wake up and look around, to open our King James Bibles and connect the dots of what is truly happening. COVID-19 is not a pestilence like AIDS, Ebola, SARS, MERS chicken pox, scarlet fever or anything else, it is the Pestilence that has changed the world.
As I write this we are approximately 38 days here in America into the nation-wide COVID-19 shut down of the US economy, and a suspension of our freedoms and liberties the likes of which has heretofore never been seen since our founding in 1776. Globally, every major nation on earth is undergoing similar measures. There can be no question that the world is being shaken to its core, the only question is why, and why now?
“For thus saith the LORD of hosts; Yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land; And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, saith the LORD of hosts. The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the LORD of hosts.” Haggai 2:6-8 (KJB)
On this episode of the NTEB Prophecy News Podcast, we are looking into the ‘beginning of sorrows’ in Matthew 24, with some of the only verses in the entire chapter that can be rightly divided and applied to the Church Age, and examine the COVID-19 phenomenon in light of the prophesied ‘pestilences’ that Jesus said would precede the time of Jacob’s trouble. Our time, in the days before the Pretribulation Rapture of the Church.

On our Sunday and Wednesday night radio bible study, we are preaching and teaching the gospel of the grace of God, rightly divided and dispensationally correct, to a truly global audience who is hungry for the word. These programs would not be possible without your generous support. Listen to just a few of the recent comments we have gotten:
“The sole purpose of this email to you is to let you know how much we have been blessed by your amazing ministry/website. ‘We’ is my wife and I, in our early forties, 3 kids, professing, churchgoing, bible believing Christians in The Netherlands.  Since two months, I listen to your bible studies on Sunday evening, and since this week also to your prophecy podcast. I listen to them in the archives, because of the 6 hour time difference. The shofar and the blessing at 0:30 into the study never fails to make tears in my eyes. We are praying for you, we are praying for your voice, that it lasts in these incredible busy times for you. Listening to your podcasts, you seem to do it effortlessly, talking, scanning the chatbox for questions, diving into the texts, from Genesis to Revelation and everything in between, I love it when you realize after 1:30h into the study, actually a lot more subjects need to be addressed! Thank you for all your work and effort, you are doing an amazing job. Although it all seems effortlessly, I know it is not…Our faith is strengthened by your work and we are able to testify in a better way to the people around us!” Wouter D. van der Wiel
“Wanted to send you encouragement and thank you for all you are doing!! I’ve been reading from this website for about 5 years and I’ve been on this at least 10 times a day. It’s the most honest prophecy website in history. And you have ministered to me greatly. This lockdown has been amazing as God gets us unto himself and smooths out the paths for us. I was reading devotional from Kenneth Copeland and during that time you had really hit That ministries hard. I was not Word Faith but I was feeding off his teaching. During this time I have removed Kenneth Copeland I wanted to thank you for your exposure of his ministry. Holy Spirit is truly the leader of all truths. The bible study on Bill Gates was tremendous. And I had the same check in my spirit as you did. He’s the guy that gonna lead this one world revolution Amazing times we live in. I’m super excited and living in total victory and peace. Once again thank you for the time you put in your reward in heaven will truly be great. Looking forward to this coming week. My prayer tonight is this …Father send Your Son!! DG
“Thank you oh so much for sound teaching. I am so thankful and blessed for clicking on your channel. I have been on your Facebook page since 2011 and never subscribed to you-tube channel until today. I loved the live recording of singing, what a delight to hear the joy of the Lord in the voices of the congregation. So wonderful to hear the part about Luke 12:36, that has made my eyebrows furrow when I read and therefore I have always steadfast to not leaning on my own understanding. May God continue to bless you, your family friends and loved ones. All Glory be to Jesus, my Saviour Redeemer and King, Amen.” Susan Anderson
“Loved this teaching! Presented in a clear contextual manner that was easy to follow along. You connected the dots for me that had previously brought so much confusion, namely the 4th seal covenant, the 5th seal tribulation saints, and the 6th seal 2nd Coming of Christ AFTER the wedding of the Body/Bride of Christ IN HEAVEN. Wow, after 41 years since my being born again by the Holy Spirit in to the Body of Christ, I finally have the answers to end the confusion. What joy and peace has flooded my heart! Thank you for this encouraging teaching of the Word.” SB
“I am from Sri Lanka and listen to the radio Bible study every week.” Nihal Perera
Nothing thrills my soul like teaching the word of God, it is what the Lord called me to do 29 years ago, and Now The End Begins is the vehicle in which I am able to do it. How exciting it is to be able to teach the Bible to tens of thousands of people per year. Like I told you with the first post of 2020, I have dedicated myself now full-time to NTEB, and it is only through your generous support that such a thing is possible.

“Hey NTEB, just wanted to say thank you for the radio show, I am loving it every single one of them. Right now I’m studying the rightly dividing the kingdom of heaven and the kingdom of God. God saved me from a horrible pit and the Holy Spirit lead me to Pastor Charles Lawson many years ago, and now at NTEB. Can’t be more blessed than that.Thank you, Thank you, Thank you……….Jesus. Till He comes…Blessings and Prayers on you.” Alda Kajana
I just want to thank you for the teachings you give every Sunday night on radio.  You are such a blessing to me. I absolutely love your way of teaching the scriptures.  I don’t have a church where I can have fellowship and teaching, so you have been my teacher for many months now. Thanks God you are there for all of us who have no church to go to.  I pray that the Lord will bless you abundantly in your ministry, and your loved ones too.  You are such a blessing to me, and many others, in these last days before the rapture.  Thank you so much Geoffrey, from the bottom of my heart. May the Lord keep you, until He comes back for us. You are in my prayers.” Donald Godin
“Thank you for the work  you are doing brother.  Your page and your testimony were a blessing to me this morning as I came across it for the first time.  Thank you for the reality of your testimony and what God has done for you in introducing you to Jesus our Lord.  God has brought me, in salvation, to Himself as well, through His love and mercy and grace in salvation.  How can we praise Him enough?  How can we not share this good news!?  I pray this day for God’s blessing on your ministry that He may save many souls through the work He has called you to.  Isaiah 40:31 (KJV)” Mark and Melissa
“Love the Sunday night bible study. I want to support someone who has the passion for the lost like Geoffrey does and rightly divides the word of God. God bless you.” Teresa Carey
“I give because not many news outlets are brave enough or Godly enough to tell these stories from a Christian’s point of view. I see stories here that will not be seen anywhere else.” William Grayshaw
“It’s hard to find solid biblical teaching in America these days. It’s a blessing to be able to take part in a ministry financially without being concerned about false teaching. All glory to God! God bless!” Maximilian Swan
“I donate because you are reporting the truth about the increasing wickedness of our time, as God’s word foretold. In so doing we are reminded to “Keep looking up” as we wait in joyful hope for the Lord’s coming, Maranatha! ” Anthony Sloane
“Geoffrey has the best End Times News out there. I have been receiving his emails for years now and always enjoy his Sunday night messages although I don’t always think exactly as he thinks. We are all in this “boat of life” together and as I come to the end of my life’s journey here, I am more aware of Jesus’s call for us to be one as He and the Father are One.” Deborah Cleaveland
“I believe in Christ Jesus, my LORD and Savior. I see Mt 24 “ The Days of NOAH “. Happening before our eyes. I think from all the signs, turmoil, godlessness, the Rapture Is at hand.1 Thes 4:16–18. WARN SOMEONE TODAY.” Dwight Shotwell
” I like the way you are promoting the scriptures of the Kingdom Message Baptism of Jesus Christ, as those of Paul in Acts 20: 27-31 Preachers don’t D this !! they make up their own IDEAS and then claim the person has Holy Spirit, WHEN THEY HAVE NOT not ever will !!!! …bye now…” Bara Rodgers

But whatever you do, don’t do nothing. Time is short and we need your help right now. If every one of the 12,882 people on our daily mailing list gave $4.50, we would reach our goal immediately. If every one of our 151,781 followers on Facebook gave $1.00 each, we would reach 300% of our goal. The same goes for our 14.000 followers on Twitter. But sadly, many will not give, so we need the ones who can and who will give to be generous. As generous as possible.

*** ROUND #2 – OAK LAKE DIRT DRAG – SEP 25TH & 26TH ***
Hello MDR Fam! Are we still recovering from the last race or anxious for the next? I hope you’re anxious because we are just 3 sleeps away from our next race at Oak Lake Dirt Drag brought to you by our race weekend sponsor Capitol Motosports!
Before we dive into all the details you need to know, we need to send out a huge shout out to the Blaine family. They are the landowners for our Oak Lake race who year after year provide us with an amazing space for us to build some incredible tracks on! Although the pro loop and the beginner loop will be amazing rides, I am quite excited for the pee-wee track! lol Tracy Mauws and myself were able to put our minds to the test and we hammered out what we think is going to be so much fun for the kids! Thanks Blaine family for giving so many families this incredible opportunity to ride dirt bikes and have fun!
Alright, the juicy info we all need to know! It’s a long one, but trust me, it took me longer to type than it will take for you to read, so please read it all. :)
The Oak Lake Dirt Drag will be a double header weekend like all the other rounds this season! Camping will be available for the weekend starting on Friday night and finishing preparations will be taking place Friday afternoon/evening and Saturday morning. Saturday is a fun race (so don’t burn yourself out too bad in the sand lol) and the Intermediate (1.5hr) & Pro (2hr) races are reduced to 1hr as well as all race fees are reduced!
***REGISTRATION***
All registration is done ONLINE! If you still need to get your membership, please message Val at [email protected] and she can get you set up for the weekend.
Race Day registration will be CLOSING at 5 PM FRIDAY, September 24th. If you miss this, there will be a $25 late fee when you register in person, so be sure you have cash with you (or just register early and you don’t have to worry about it :) )
*** COMMUNITY MEAL ***
A big thanks goes out to Watson Roofing for being our water sponsor! We are still not able to have a community meal but we are going to have a fire where we can share the results from the day, update with any info needed and have a great Saturday night! ****We need to still follow provincial guidelines and distance, even outside, so we can continue to do this thing called racing! Please be respectful of others and their boundaries. It’s nice to see our friends and familiar faces, but know that some feel more comfortable at a little distance...and that’s OK!
*** VOLUNTEERS – IMPORTANT ***
Our volunteer coordinator Lauraine Saltel Berard has updated the volunteer positions so be sure to check in and pick your time slot! For more information and what the “jobs” entail, please contact Lauraine at [email protected] or check the listings as there is a description by each job. In order for our weekend to run, we need volunteers to make it as safe as possible! Head over to sign up before the weekend, as this will also close at 5pm Friday evening. Service gets a little spotty so if you want to sign up in person, please track Lauraine down or come to the scoring trailer and we can help out but why wait? Get the spot you want first, sign up early ;)
*** DIRECTIONS ***
Please grab those directions while you still have service! http://www.manitobadirtriders.com/oak-lake-dirt-drag.html
***CAMPING***
Please give a quick read and be sure you are up to date on the camping rules! http://www.manitobadirtriders.com/camping.html
***GATE FEE & BRACELETS***
When you arrive there is a $5 per person gate fee. At this time you will receive a bracelet. This bracelet is to be worn for the weekend. If you do not have your bracelet on at the start of the race you will be asked to go and get it, head to the scoring trailer to pay your gate fee if you haven’t already, or start backwards, so make sure it’s on please. :)
*** ENTERTAINMENT ***
Our amazing entertainment and start up music will be brought to you by the amazing Quarry Ridge Racing! It’s always nice to have some tunes at the start and shake the jitters out before that dreaded 10 second call, so thanks Quarry Ridge Racing for the hook up!
*** SWEEPERS ***
Prior to each race there will be a sweepers meeting. This will maximize everyone’s safety on the course and we can keep track of everyone. If you are sweeping, please go to the Scoring Trailer and Ryan Folmes will be there with instructions! It’s a must so we can keep track of who is on the track and where our helpers are! We love our sweepers,we need to keep them safe too!
*** REGULATIONS ***
One more time, just so it’s out there. Please respect boundaries of those around you. We are so thrilled we are able to race, so let’s keep it going and finish this season out strong so we can look forward to next year too!
MDR would also like to thank SAR for stepping up as our medic sponsor for the 2021 season and keeping us safe out there!
This weekends forecast is looking PERFECT!!! It may get a little cool over night, so bring those onesies, fleece jammies, warm clothes, extra blankets...all the warm things for night time! Oops, you guys aren’t my kids, do what you need to do! lol
If you need any help, guidance, have questions, come track us down or head to the scoring trailer and we can help. I think I have covered everything needed, but please let us know if you have any questions!
We look forward to seeing everyone in just 3 short days and making our second race of the season super memorable! Let’s Braaap!!
