THIS ACTUALLY CROSSED MY MIND A FEW TIMES WHEN I WAS WRITING NOTES ON HIS CHILDHOOD.

I guess it would make sense for that to be it but the idea of him just phasing into existence in some random ass orphanage works great too ABSDJFH don't think i've mentioned it before but he was adopted by Gerald when he was young!! Gerald essentially wanted a successor to continue his research after he retires/dies (whichever comes first) and since Maria is ill, he decided to adopt (plus Maria would constantly complain about being bored n having nobody to play with absjdf).

I haven't really thought too hard about any of their actual parents because it's something i'm not really too bothered about focusing on and either way their current (sort of) caretakers are all characters included in canon >:)) (minus Uncle Chuck!!!)

#ignore the fact that he could literally hire an assistant for this instead ASBDJ #GOTTA MAKE IT WORK SOMEHOW #i'll probably make a more in depth post abt Gerald n Shadow's very very strained relationship some other time!!#but essentially Gerald is still trying to find a cure for Maria and ends up roping Shadow into a lot of tests and experiments #since he's seen as a sort of 'healthy' baseline for Gerald to go off of #DISREGARD THE FACT THAT HUMAN AND MOBIAN ANATOMY IS PROBABLY VERY DIFFERENT.
