Here's a little thing. I really like Kiwi brand knives. This is the pair I bought:

They're available on Amazon. These two knives cost about $15 together. Look! They have a kiwi on them!

These knives are extremely lightweight. The blades are quite thin and they'll bend if you mess with them. They're extremely sharp right out of the packaging. They also hone quickly and well. They slice with virtually no effort through almost everything I prepare. That said, I would probably not try to cut up a rutabaga with one of these.

Because they're so cheap, they're a good investment. You'll get a ton of return on these without any of the anxiety that comes with buying "good knives." It helps that they actually do the job extremely well.
