Something like a community
If @staff Tumblr goes down, and this blog comes to its conclusion - I will miss so much more than my own engagement with these images. I will miss the many, many blogs that I discovered here.
Some, like @socalyoungnaturist, drew me to Tumblr in the first place. Some, like @soakingspirit, inspired the blog I came to create. These two pages above all others have been the constant dialog of this blog. I’ve had plenty of correspondence with soakingspirit - and with Socal, as I call him, we’ve been friends at the springs for years now, and lots of correspondence too, no matter the difference in our years.
And that of course is one sub-group of blogs on here that I would miss - but hopefully see at the springs, as they are part of the community there like SoCal and myself. The Tumblrs that actually know the springs, and visit it frequently.
Some of the Tumblrs I have loved have already gone the way of the Dodo, and some of course before this censorship issue. But in the week since I found out about it, some 50 followers immediately dropped from my count, and these were tumblrs mostly and suddenly deactivated.
Communities are dispersing. Image communes simply gone.
It is not just the alienation of spectacle that the Tumblr swarms create. It really is a kind of community.
So here is a partial list. Of the Tumblrs and blogs that I have counted on, engaged with, become friends with, enjoyed. That I count as my community here. I’m sure I have forgotten to list some, and I apologize in advance. This was done too quickly. First from memory. Then looking at the list of the 1000+ blogs that I currently follow.
